guitarnut- people will continue posting their minds here.

Joe's happy with this- it's a stream of consciousness where important issues are discussed. Musical and non-musical.

I have exactly the same thinkings on joe's albums... well almost...

SWTA for biggest most important, CP for best full stop, but Engines of Creation is my favourite...

zinc master - eschewing obfuscation- there was a composition contest at my uni the other night and a piece called that won :)

clarky- you're not talking about *the* Schenker are you? as in schenkerian analysis... just checking...

What do you mean you'll be happy with halo for another 6 months!?!?! Half-Life 2 will be out on Tuesday!

neil - ask your brother, he probably has a good answer about dinosaurs. My answer would be that dinosaurs actually tell us very little about things now. They don't explain what humans are here for, anything about God, or life... so I'd be quite surprised if they *were* included.

Half-Life 2 is great... been playing close to non-stop all day... always exciting, always varied, superb game.

Since I often enjoy Zinc Master's...

A man walking along a California beach was deep in prayer. All of a sudden, he called out aloud, "Lord grant me one wish."

Suddenly the sky clouded above his head and in a booming voice the Lord said, "Because you have TRIED to be faithful me in all ways, I will grant you one wish."

The man said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can drive over any time I want."

The Lord said, "Your request is very materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. The supports required to reach the bottom of the Pacific! The concrete and steel it would take! I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of another wish, a wish you think would honour and glorify me."

The man thought about it for a long time.

Finally he said, "Lord, I wish that I could understand women. I want to know how they feel inside, what they are thinking when they give me the silent treatment, why they cry, what they mean when they say 'Nothing', and how I can make a woman truly happy.

The Lord replied, "Do you want two or four lanes on that bridge?"

do the stu- yeah, it's a fairly standard kinda joke.. couldn't remember it being posted here before but I have no problems with being wrong :)

clarky- 6000 years isn't the amount of time all Christians believe has transpired since the universe was made... more the time that humans have been alive on the earth. There are believers in a literal 6 days, for whom it would be one and the same. However, the 'days' translation is an unhelpful one leading many Christians to believe in literal 24 hour periods. The original hebrew is much better translated as "periods of time". Which day in the engllish language can also mean (eg. back in my day, all we could have on our sandwiches was corned beef")

Just watched a program on channel 4 about the musical greats of the twentieth century, talking about the beatles. howard goodall was way off on so many of his facts and beliefs it was unbelievable... i would pay to see a fight between him and our professor of popular music...
