Hey guys.... what time sig is Woodstock Jam in? there are other songs in non 4/4 time sigs, there's a bit of 6/8 (eg. sleep walk, what i've heard) There are occasionally odd bars of different time sigs (eg a 2/4 bar in home) Oh, how could i forget... Flavour Crystal 7 in 7/4. I'd say New Last Jam is in 5/8 rather than 5/4.

Can I format my message into paragraphs now? Can I do tab? e|---0--3--5 B|---8--3--5 G|---7--4--6 D|---6--5--7 A|---7--5--7 E|---0--3--5

ozzybradboy- the fx edge is a fixed brige it has no tremolo capabilities, it is a fixed bridge designed to feel like the edge bridge for people who aren't interested in floating bridges- it was the number one modification request for JS1000s so they created the js200cg.

Joe - are you missing the old page??? i would be, but mr luini has done an excellent job on this, it looks great, and works great. Hopefully the 4 hour rule won't have to come back into play... are you going to be playing Strange on the SBM tour? listening earlier, I thought it would sound great live and it has a bit of harmony vocals.... I'd still love you to play lights of heaven in London.... can't wait.

austin i think you were talking about the high pass filter that's on the js1000s- as i think phrygiandominant pointed out the coil tap cuts the two pickups in a humbucker down to one. Anyone else taking P2 tomorrow? if you don't know what I'm atlking about, don't worry.

austin- now you have too much time on your hands.... yesterday anyway :) with reference to the coil tap thing, it's easily enough done... I have it easy, I have a JS100 which has the coil tap but not the high pass filter... anyway, you continue to be one of the coolest people on the site cause you simply don't get bored of answering people's questions... great guy..

Neil Morgan... Yeah Maths is pretty heavy- particularly if you're doing the whole a2 in one year like me.. I'm also taking Music (Edexcel) which i enjoy loads... it would be cool to meet up sometime, maybe at the london show if you're going, have a jam at some point Thanks for the Davestock info- dunno if I'll be able to make it all the way down to hastings (it's a fair distance from here on Sussex).

Mr M. Lava I completely agree with your comment and wouldn't think of arguing about it.

anybody who'll listen - it's my sister's wedding today, excitement! Also, it's England vs. Denmark... problem is, I'm head usher at the wedding which means I have to leave straight after the final whistle of the match... sadly this means if it goes to extra time/ penalties (eg. England Argentina in the 2nd round 4 years ago) I have to miss it... :(

austin - yeah, hats off to the usa, did you see some of them mexicans on Cobi Jones I think (his name was something like that)- absolutely dirty.. not as bad as Argentina though :p USA have done very well to get so far, good luck against Germany. Then against Italy (probably). Man it would be cool to have a USA vs England final ...... but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Anyone into early George Benson?

neil- my girlfriend had her last music A2 exam yesterday- doing the edexcel paper.... don't tell me you do that one too??

The gipsy scale is another name for double harmonic then.. i know that they call phrygian dominant the spanish scale as well... there are lots of names for the same scale often.

Unlucky England... well, not really unlucky, although the refereeing was severely questionable to both sides, it went pretty fairly in the end.

If England had been at their best they would have won the game. But they weren't. Still, there are a few world cups left in most of them.

top wuality satch. that's all i can say really :) i preordered it off amazon ages ago, and when i checked this morning, they hadn't dispatched it. so i went into town, buit none of the shops there had it. so i paid £4.20 for a peak return ticket to brighton so i could get it (skipping two maths lessons simultaneously). So i spent that extra time listening to it with geekily large headphones and a personal cd player, getting sunburnt on brighton beach! Fabulous stuff :) Love Hill groove.

three epic pieces on my mind to talk about.....

The Journey - wow. that intro is so kick-ass. What breaks a heart- fantastic all the way through, particularly the pull-off open string bit. Hill Groove- does this remind anyone else of motown?

OK Austin, OK, I'll write bits about the first three songs while I listen to them right now....

Oriental Melody-

Great starting riff- it's really catchy the underlying theme to this song. Drums come in- with arkward 4/4 a la Time. Echoey guitar part- not my favourite, but is quite moody. The moody theme keeps going with some exotic scale. Then Joe plays some groovy chorus like hooks, which I love, before returning to the original theme with synth strings adding to the tune. Then Joe starts to solo- usual deal- slow changes of key, some pretty cool riffs come up with. Then back to the echoey guitar bit, followed by the chorusy hook bit. That has to be my favourite bit of the tune. More stringey tuneness, before the drums come out, and the tune ends neatly.

Belly Dancer-

Cool classic satch riff, sounds like some earlier stuff in composition with a guitar riff or two, a tune over the top and some fairly standard drums.

Very cool pre-chorusy bit, particularly when the harmony guitar bit comes in. Makes me very dizzy. The chorus tune- sounds quite Vai-ish in my opinion, particularly with the tapping coming in kinda reminiscent of Steve Vai's Fever Dream.

Then back to the main tune again, followed by an outro riff which the band basically jam to.

Starry Night- The delicate accompaniment of chords with a fairly delicate tune is throughout this one, similarly to "you Saved My Life". There is a chord change that suggests to me Joe might have been listening to Oasis at the time... I dunno but something about that chord makes me think of Oasis. if i listened properly I'm sure i would recognise it as an Augmented chord. I dunno.

The outro has a very cool guitar chord sequence which reminds me of john Petrucci on the softer bits of "Biaxident and Hourglass" from LTE.

It strikes me now that most of these tunes don't follow the standard verse chorus, solo patterns that we're quite used to from earlier records. he's put definite codas in most of them.

master yoda of neilage! - well, some of the summer i'm free, term ends on the 19th July (day after satriani) The week after that is a good time though- problem is my amp's just gone faulty- i got a bad high/low power switch :( Let me know..

Chords of life Starts out with a soft tune with Mrs. Vai on harp, some classical stylee changes go on, after which you hear inversions of arpeggios played by Mr Satriani, which brings you into the acoustic guitar chord theme of the song- plenty of parallel fifths, as it goes Gm F Eb Dm Cm all in root position. Still, I don't think Joe's trying to copy Bach :) Joe then comes in with bluesy guitar on top of those chords, then a new chord sequence comes along with some pretty fast, high bluesy soloing, which then breaks off into the harp and soft tune theme again. Again into what I assume are the "chords of life" and the bluesy guitar, which continues until fade out. Lots of different feels in this one, very nice tunes.

anibur- nice to see you, to see you nice. Plum Loco - great news, very exciting, so are you moving in with April? Scary but exciting... good luck with the whole thing anyway.

New Last Jam- (it just happens to have come on) Those who like trundrumbalind will like this one :) It's not 5/4 all the way but one of the main riff is. It's also got a fair bit of whole tone scale goodness. Kinda sounds like it should be on both the Crystal Planet and the Not Of This Earth records... in my opinion.

This album gets better and better....

what breaks a heart Starts out with eerie chord sequence and wah drenched tune, fairly relaxed but sad. The main tune then comes in harmonised in thirds, still wah drenched very catchy. The instruments then build up, giving way to a great chord based riff sequence, with wah guitars playing a new tune.

Next in comes very high slide guitar, still quite eerire and creepy. next is my highlight, a pull-off open string section, very innovative and great sounding, giving way to some satch legato (some of my favourite). It then moves onto a great diminished chord. This whole solo section is so briliantly blown over the top, it's great. Feels kinda like the more dramatic LTE moments.

JS Clone 1 - I know what you mean about EOC, it truly is great. Great melodic feel over the top of some pretty out there chords. SBM has all that melody and more, but with some real groove. But not so jazzy chords in general.

Master Yoda... I'm sure we'll meet up in the line on the 18th... you standing up at the front? race you to the front of the queue.. ;)
