hey everyone-- thanks to everyone who has sent photos in. i spent most of today and not only caught up with all current tour photos that had been sent, but i also caught up with other photos over the last year which i hadn't been able to get to, so i'm now completely current!

i'm not sure if joe will be online soon, he's going for a well-deserved mini vacation until the US dates start, but hopefully connectivity will be better and he'll be able to check in a little more frequently :}

PhrygianDominant - contact me via email, and i'll sort you out.

SLICK - it's too early to say what might happen with the tune, but until joe decides on something, we won't be able to put the entire song up. but it's on the list of cool things to use if it doesn't get used elsewhere :}

howdy folks-- just sticking my head up after being hard at work the last week or two getting the webcast ready for y'all! that's right, it'll be coming to you in under two weeks, and more details will be announced very soon. the short version is that it will be in quicktime 6 (partnered with apple again), and will feature exclusive rehearsal footage + the amsterdam show, split across a month. basically, 1/4 of the show will be available each week and then at the end it will all be available for 2 days. the rehearsal footage includes joe, matt and jeff giving little walkthroughs of some of their gear and there's some cool music and humorous glimpses into life the the rehearsal studio :}

i'm also working on getting the 20 winners for the set list contest chosen and announced so they can know to expect their autographed CDs and concert tour shirt. there's still time to enter-- just select your favorite set list for the tour!

we're still holding on to those bonus tracks to perhaps be able to use in something cool in the future. :}

and on a personal note, michael hedges was a wonderful player. i think live on the double planet is a fantastic album to start with, as is aerial boundaries. you can also catch some clips of a special show i had him do back in the "early days" of webcasting -- go to MediaCast's Michael Hedges page for the quicktime clips. in fact, this show i believe was the 5th live concert broadcast on the net. :}

hey austin-- i'm not sure, but i expect that the "aftershow" pass will start at the end of the entire show. wouldn't be so great to have fans miss the dream theater sets!

i'll be at the concord show so if you win the aftershow pass, make sure to say hi. or if you're up close to stage since i might be shooting some photos or video. cheers!

hey folks, i'm going to be picking the setlist contest winners shortly, so make sure you've got your set list chosen and if you are having any troubles, please email me at webmaster@satriani.com with details.

in other news, the sf chronicle ran an interview with joe in today's pink section. here's a link.

non smoker - setlist contest winners will be chosen at random by an automated program. :}

good to see all you folks out at concord tonight-- i've got a lot of pictures from the show that i'll be processing and uploading tomorrow for y'all!

hey folks, just wanted to let you know that i've posted some photos a friend of mine took at The Bone yesterday. they're over in the road section and anyone who listened can (and should) write a review there. if you were lucky enough to be there in person, list yourself of course as attending. and yes, thebone folks got a bit confused-- there was not a video webcast of the show. however, i believe they may be doing some streaming of a couple songs in the future. i'll let you know, of course.

as most of you have noticed, i also uploaded photos from the concord show yesterday and a number of them turned out pretty well.

i also just finally uploaded some pictures from the rehearsal for Strange Beautiful Tour which can be seen by clicking on the "band road gallery" on the road section, or with this link (which is now included in the drop-down link). joe and jeff said they hope to be able to upload more photos from the remaining US dates :}

asia tour dates will be coming shortly, along with the setlist contest winner names and final details on the upcoming webcast that starts at the end of this week!

JazzGuitar - the special button is just so you can see all messages joe has ever posted. when he posts them, they show up with everyone else's, and if you scan back to old messages you can see them in that context, too.

all - if anyone knows of a valid email for nickname Bloop Dogg, let them know that they need to update it in their preferences so i can contact them about winning the setlist contest. i need to confirm their postal address :}

webcast starts friday! get ready :} if you haven't already, download quicktime 6, since you'll need that to watch it! (it's in the new mpeg4 codec which is better quality than previous).

punkdude75 - yeah, quicktime 6 is available for more than just the mac :} the same link lets you download for windows as well. :}

in other news... new newsletter just went out. i'll post it in the news section tomorrow probably (i want to give the setlist winners headline some time before it moves down a notch :})

regarding the newsletter-- if you didn't get one, first make sure that your preferences has the box checked for receiving them. if it does, mail me and i'll verify you were on the list of people who should have received them.

if you received more than one copy of the message, send me full copies of each message (including the headers) and i can try and see where the problem was. also make sure you don't have more than one account registered that might result in multiple copies.

don't worry if you can't check into the webcast on friday-- each part will be up for a full week before the next part replaces it. and even then you can see it all at the very end for 2 days. :}

and no, qt5 won't work, you need qt6 because it uses the new MPEG4 encoding.

last, but not least, i added a br and hr tag to ttj posts. br = line break and hr = horizontal rule. put 'em in [], like the other tags. :}

ok, i lied .. *really* last, but not least-- until the *real* new chat is completed, i'm going to put up a temporary one which isn't tied to the member database but is the same as used on vai.com. it should be up pretty soon and i'll of course post when it happens :}

btw, i was in the studio a lot during SBM and it never felt pressured to me. tracking actually went really quickly because things were working so well, as i recall. :}

the window size ranges in size (up to 400x310) depending on your connection speed. if you want to enlarge it anyways, you can do a 'view source' from the popup window and copy the url, run the standalone qt player and then paste the url into the "Open URL" dialog box. after that you' be able to make it double-sized/full-screen/etc.

hey kda-- are you saying you aren't seeing the links to start the webcast (from this link) or that once you click on those, you don't get the webcast?

toastrie - view source is usually under the View menu. IE has a keyboard shortcut of Command-E on the mac.

if anyone has problems, remember that this will be up for a full week before part2 goes up. that means you can try again later. if you are having network issues, trying at a less active time may help you out there.

fwiw, the different encoded bitrates available are 56k, 100k, 300k and 700k.

kda - it sounds like your web browser isn't picking up the new page for some reason. you can usually force a browser to get a new page by either quitting and restarting, or manually going into your preferences and finding the place that says "empty cache", or even rebooting your computer. of course, clicking "refresh" really is all that you should need to do!

firewalls - anyone who has a firewall may indeed have problems with RTSP getting through it, so check apple's site about firewalls: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60688

mr. nick - the qt6 download is about 7mb i think for the full set. if you aren't creating any content, you can probably just download the basic which i think is about half of that. if it's taking a long time to download it could be your network connection, or some problem between you and apple's download servers.

you haven't missed anything-- the first part starts today and includes the rehearsal footage and part1 of the live show. it will be available until next friday when part 2 of the live show will replace part 1 (the rehearsal footage will still be there). it continues like that for 4 weeks and then the everything will be up for the weekend. all of the dates are included on the webcast page :}

on the chat--- reload your page and then chose the live chat. if it doesn't take you to the new chat, drop me an email. you can also reach it with this link.

sharon - it should just plain work. if you have problems with it cutting in and out, try a little later when the network between you and the apple streaming servers may not be as busy. i'll see about adding an easy link to view it in an external player that makes it easier to enlarge.

sorry to hear folks are having troubles with the webcast. the best thing i can suggest is to try during off-peak times, setting your connection speed lower than you actually have, and making sure you aren't behind a firewall. beyond that, feel free to send your comments to apple about qt6-- they should hear about any problems with the software itself.

i tested the streams on different computers and connection speeds and other than some stutterring on the beginning credits of the rehearsal footage, it works well for me. it's hard to help troubleshoot problems you can't reproduce, or i'd help more!

the label doesn't give permission to make the live show downloadable, but there is a chance that in the future we can make the rehearsal stuff available in some other format. we're still working on ideas for including some of the studio and rehearsal footage on a future dvd, but it's still very much up in the air. cross your fingers for us :}

hey all-- if you want the post message to come up in a new window you can simply have your browser open the link that way. windows folks it's typically right-click on the link and mac is typically control-click. :}

i try to keep the number of new windows that popup to a minimum on satriani.com since it can quickly get cluttered otherwise.

hey folks-- i know it's a natural thing to be mad at whoever is responsible, but wasting our time calling them names and such is energy better spent trying to find the guitar. the extra attention they get, the happier they probably are about it. let's just keep our eyes and ears open and hope it is found or returned!

booboo - what error do you get when you try to enter the chat? you will definitely need a browser that supports java i just looked at it right now and although it appears to connect, it doesn't seem to really be. i'll check with tyler, who's hosting it in this interim period.

webcast info - i've continued having discussion with apple's qt folks to try and resolve some of the problems people have been reporting and they've re-encoded some stuff and part 3 (and the rehearsal footage) should be better tomorrow. i'd appreciate hearing from anyone who this helps out, as well as those who continue to have problems. i'm also looking into providing an audio-only stream of the live footage for those who that might help a lot (slower modem folks).

just heard from typer that the chat server is restarted so should be in good shape again.

Phydeaux_3 - sorry to hear you've continued to have poor experience with quicktime. i think things have been a bit rougher on this webcast since it's using brand new technology which always raises the likelihood of troubles. i was able to watch everything fine when i tested on both mac and windows, so it's not an issue of needing a mac. hopefully the re-encoding that will be up tomorrow will improve things for you.

fyi, part 3 of the webcast is up, along with the re-encoded rehearsal footage. check it out!

i did get and forward the possible lead in holland on the guitar, btw.

i've had to move all satriani.com email to a separate folder and only check it a couple times a week now, but don't worry-- if you emailed me, i will get back to you when i get a chance :}

part four of the webcast is up, and i've just gotten word that apple is working on getting an audio-only version also available for the final few days of the full webcast (all four parts). hopefully that'll work well for those who have continued to have problems viewing.
