Best ZZ Top song to download? Urghhh... now that's a toughie. However, I think I will go with Under Pressure. Or maybe Cheap Sunglasses. Or maybe Sharp Dressed Man. Or maybe.....

Song of the day: "New Year's Day" by U2. Gorgeous.

CRYSTAL PLANET- that song is from the pre-LaBrie DT days. The vocalists's name on there is Charlie Dominici.

I'm no big DT expert or anything, I just looked up the stuff on CDNOW.com... ;-)

The sweet smell of a great sorrow lies over the land
Plumes of smoke rise, merge into the leaden sky
A man lies and dreams of green fields and rivers
But awakes to a morning with no reason for waking
He's haunted by the memory of a lost paradise
In his youth or a dream, he can't be precise
He's chained forever to a world that's departed
It's not enough, it's not enough...

BUFFY20:

Nice to hear you'll be coming to NC. I'm guessing your fiancee is going to be stationed at Seymour Johnson? Anyway, Joe has, in the past played at the Ritz in Raleigh (which is where I'm at-lived here all of my 23 years). He played there during the CP tour, and more recently, the G3 2000 tour. He also played the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach on the EOC tour, a show which I caught. HOB is a far better venue to see a show at if you have the chance, but I'll take a Joe show anywhere, even at a less-than-perfect venue.

If you have any other questions about Joe shows or NC in general, feel free to email me at paclifto@unity.ncsu.edu. We'll be glad to have you here in NC.

Nose O Sauron:

I believe what that dude's saying goes something like this:

Wrong!!! DO IT AGAIN!!! WRONG!!! DO IT AGAIN!!! If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding! How can you have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat? You! Yes, do you know how to stand still?!?!?! STAND STILL, LADDY!!!

Those parts sort of repeat and fade out around each other. And, as a local radio DJ once said after playing that, "Boy, does that guy sound pissed!"

my mind is racing
my body tense
my logic questions
what should make sense
i live for freedom
i die for peace
but in my prison cell
all slogans cease
Tuesday's forgotten
tomorrow comes
moments i've chosen
are silent ones
my memories crashing
against the wall
flavored hysteria
i taste them all

Why the heck is everyone so upset that Joe didn't win the Grammy? I'd like to see oneperson stand up here and say that they really, truly, thought he was going to win and were surprised that anything else happened.

Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not saying that Joe is unworthy of recognition at all. But frankly, I don't care that Joe didn't win. I don't see what's so great about winning an award which is quite clearly based on popularity and not musicality. let's face it, the Grammys ARE a joke, and they were a joke before this year or the last time Joe was nominated for UWSG. If Joe ever does win a Grammy, it'll probably be after he hires dancers and harmony singers. I doubt that day will ever come.

So please, people, quell your anger over the Grammy. I look at it as a compliment, not an insult, to not win the thing.

CLEETUS:

Personally, I think "Tears in the Rain" is one of the easier Satch songs to learn. It does involve a couple of difficult stretches, but a little practice and you can hit them fairly easily. It's mostly just grabbing chords and picking individual notes.

When you get right down to it, most of Joe's sogns are pretty easy until he gets to a rippin' solo... For example, the main melody of "Secret Prayer" is easy for me... but the solo in the middle boggles my mind (and my fingers). Good luck.

Well, it's time I chimed in on the Eminem front... back when I was in high school, I went through the whole "gangsta rap" phase. Yep, had all the cool CDs, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Warren G, etc... but by the time I finished high school, I had gotten away from that kind of music and started the journey to more enlightened tastes. Nowadays, I'm not really a fan af rap... just not my cup of tea. As for Eminem, frankly, I've tried to not like him, but his songs are just too catchy. Frankly, I think the way he puts together lyrics and rhymes is amazing. His new song from '"8 mile" is great... and I don't see how people here, at least some of which are budding musicians, can't identify well with a song about making the most of your one chance to make something of yourself. That's a great song, and frankly, I think if you listen to it, you'll discover that he doesn't just say "Mom's spaghetti" out of nowhere.

His palms are sweaty, knees weak arms are heavy
There's vomit on his sweater already, Mom's spaghetti

And as for people who say that Eminem or Mudvayne or other mentioned are just putting on an act... well, aren't we ALL putting on an act? Let's be honest here, noone is 'themself' all the time. Who am I to look at someone else's music, something that they have worked and labored to create, and declare it to be artistically invalid? I think that is one of the highest forms of disrespect I can think of. I don't like certain types of music, as I've said before, but saying that something or other isn't music is elevating myself to the apparent level of an authority on music. And I won't do that... I'm just another human trying to get by and figure things out.

Ice81:
Joe wears Oakley sunglasses. Not always the same particular model, though... around the time of Crystal Planet he was wearing Eye Jackets, but when I saw him on the EOC tour he had what looked to be a pair of Straight Jackets. Seems like recently I saw a picture of him wearing some X-Metals at a concert... but always Oakleys. Personally, I like my Twenties. :D

Anagrams, huh? Would my anagram be BUTTERGOY? I have no idea what that might mean, but it highly amuses me for some reason... :D

In what city were 1500 civilians killed? I have searched news sites and found no reports of numbers that high.

At any rate, wheher it is true or not, what I would say about the death of 1500 civilians is that it is unfortunate, regrettable, and most of all, avoidable. I wonder what you say about the reported 1 million plus civilian deaths ordered by Saddam Hussein?

The real question is, do we have good reason to be doing this? And frankly, I don't know. Neither do you. Who gives the right to anyone to sit in their comfortable home and write because he/she THINKS he/she knows exactly why things are happening? That means I should join an Iraqi focus group or something and tell them what should be done about Saddam.

Stupid way of thinking, isn't it?

That fixed-width font that is used when you use the quote tags doesn't automatically wrap. So unless you throw in some literal [ br ] tags, it'll all appear on one line, and as we've seen, make for an interesting page layout.

Oh hell yeah

I stream The Bone all the time while I'm killing time in the library. Apparently, due to the issues surrounding playing commercials on Internet radio, they just fill the commercial breaks with Satch tunes! My kind of station!

Thanks for the heads-up for everyone, Ken!

DEATH CUBE K

The reason the page got screwed up is that the fixed-width font used inside the [ quote ] tags does not automatiocally wrap to the next line. So, if you ever quote someone who wrote more than one line of text, you'll have to manually throw in some [ br ] tags to keep the page from formatting to the entire line of text.
