Thx Ovation- actually, since I'll be doing NROTC, I'm already gakked for a minimum eight yeear commitment, at least four of which will be active. That'll start in two more years when I finish my BS degree. Of course, if I get into flight school like I intend to do, I'll incur an even longer commitment- but it'll be worth it to be able to fly an F/A-18. Been a dream of mine for a long time, and now I'm taking the first steps toward making it a reality.

Don't worry, I believe you. I do wonder why anyone would post such a thing, even if it were untrue- but I've learned in my short time on this earth that some people's actions simply cannot be explained by any rational process, so sometimes you just have to say, "ohhhhh-kaaaaaaaaayy" and move on. This seems like a good time.

Yep, Time is an effin' great tune. I will never forget how that tune set off what was, without a doubt, the best concert experience of my life. EOC at the House of Blues made me love that song.

GUNNERY SERGEANT, CANDIDATE CLIFTON REQUESTS PERMISSION TO ASK A QUESTION!

Seriously, I am alive and well here at NSI, and while the Marine Gunnery Sergeant in charge of our company is tough, he is fair and won't bother you as long as you do things right. Definitely not out to make a hard time just for the hell of it. I'm enjoying things up here more than I might have expected- it's pretty interesting. Anyway, I'm outta here. Hold down the fort here in Satch-land.

Quote of the Day:

Courtesy of Gunnery Sergeant Maldonado, our Company CO here at NSI, after he had called all the male candidates to the side while we were marching. He explained the correct marching posture as follows:
"Just walk around like you're trying to show off your freakin' johnson."

Listening to your song as I type. Yep, I'm making good use of thsi DOD high-speed connection. I'm liking the song- has a very nice relaxing feeling to it, and flows very well. The wah adds a real finishing touch to it, enunciating things very nicely. Keep up the good work- keep making great music.

Like the new tune- nothing like a good laid-back bluesy tune. As always, keep up the good work!

I don't see music as competition i just know that some people are faster
than others. and some have more musical sense than others.

"Faster." Ok, speed is a measurable quantity. We can all get right down to the nitty-gritty and say, "he can play more notes per second than this other guy." No problems there. On the other hand, "musical sense" is NOT an objective, measurable quantity.

I am always amazed by how many people refuse to acknowledge the fact that when it comes to music, it's all subjective. "Good" and "bad" music DO NOT EXIST. It's all a matter of opinion. Yet people continue to childishly insist that their own opinion is correct, and anyone who disagrees is either wrong or a complete moron.

Act like an adult. Realize that others will have different opinions. Understand that some people will like things you hate. Respect their opinions, and don't drag them in the mud.

This is not directed at Fusion, but rather to anyone who does this crap. And if you think it doesn't apply to you, then you're probably exactly who I'm talking to.

Fusion:

You're exactly right. You wanna play open strings for an hour? Be my guest. I'm not going to listen to it if I have an option, mind you, but if that's your thing, I'm not going to interfere. I have no business dictating what someone else enjoy or doesn't enjoy.

Justin Timberlake equal to Satch? Nelly equal to Mozart? No, I wouldn't say that. The point I'm trying to make, and the point that you're apparently missing, is that there is no constructive point in comparing X artist to Y artist. Everybody plays their own thing, sings their own thing, farrrts their own thing- you get the idea. I like this music. I don't like that music. Maybe you do like that music, and don't like this music.

Which one of us is the dumb on with no taste? I'm not going to declare myself "Grand Poo-Bah of Musical Taste" and purport to dispense the gospel of what makes music good or bad, and you shouldn't either.

I can see that this discussion is doing nothing for the environment on this board, so you can expect not to hear from me again on this subject. I will not perpetuate things like this, even at the expense of letting someone else think they've won an argument.

Alive and well in Rhode Island! Only two more weeks left on this naval base, then I'll be home, sweet home. Can't come soon enough for me!

Austin:

Yep, I'm actually enjoying it up here. The first week was kinda hard, since that the "military indocrintation week." I would personally rename it the "HEY YOU!!! YOU'RE IN THE MILITARY NOW" week, but that's just me. But after that was over, things just settled down to a nice daily grind of 7 hours of lectures and free time after 4 PM. I am looking forward to finishing up here, though... nowhere like home. Plus, at home I don't have to get up at 5 AM to go run and do pushups and such! Gotta go now, though... laters all!

OVATION:

I won't be shipping out anywhere anytime soon- this was just sort of a prep course. I'll be going back to college life for another two years in the NCSU NROTC unit, and once I graudate I'll get a commission as an officer. Hopefully, at that point, I will have been selected for flight school and will them ship down to spend a few years in Pensacola, Florida where I'll learn to land on a tiny, moving runway!

MATT:

Sorry to hear about the guitar- sadly, there are far too many scumbags in this world. Hopefully it'll be found, money can't buy sentimental value...

Bleh.

Just finished a nice brisk 6.5 mile run here, and boy do I feel like crap! But I can look on the bright side- in just a little over four days, I will be climbing into my car, putting my foot to the floor, and putting Naval Station Newport, RI far behind me as I return to the great North Carolina. I can hardly wait, even though it means I'll be going back to my mundane retail job five days a week. Definitely been an experience up here, though.

I hope this stuff I've been hearing abour rumors of a fall G3 are true- that'll give me something to look forward to this fall in addition to Matrix:Revolutions and the new Stephen King Dark Tower book, Wolves of the Calla. Gonna be a great fall, people!

Pirates of the Caribbean:
[br Yep, I saw it this past weekend, and I have to say that Johnny Depp made that movie good. He was simply amazing, and the best part was that you could never guess just what the hell he was going to do next.

I am sad...

I have not seen by guitar, have not felt its silky strings respond to my fingers to create sound, have not had the feeling of getting a lick down and it sounding right- I have done none of these for nearly seven weeks now.

I never realized just how relaxing and comforting it is to pick up my guitar- sure, I suck at playing the thing when you get right down to it, but still I enjoy it.

To my cheap little Strat copy: don't worry, you'll be in my arms again in only a few short days, fret not...
