yeah sammy hagar is a musician alright...just like vince neil is a musician, hey they both like to just hold their guitars and pretend to play too...coincidence? i dunno...then you've got the weight factor too....brothers?

the thing with sammy is when he joined VH they starte putting out pop music, sure maybe hes not all to blame for that cause ed is just as wacked as the next guy but he gets a lot of the blame for van halen becoming a synth 80's band since the music took such a drastic change when he joined...

DLR is a nutcase and thats part of his appeal, the guy has ADD! he has the perfect career for someone with that.... VH was all about rock, chicks & partying and DLR was the clown of the circus...straight up rip your head off rock....one of the best rock bands to ever roam the planet, you had ed the madman on guitar and DLR being the eccentric frontman it was awesome....van hagar just went in the opposite direction so sam takes a lot of flack for it and it may not be totally justified thats why i bash ed just as much as sam cause the truth be told he was probably the driving force behind journey-lite. and thats the last thing im saying about van hagar & their lameness

"If DLR was back in VH, I don't see them putting out anything half listenable"

really? Me Wise Magic, Can't Get This Stuff No More from 96', those songs were pretty damn good.

it would just be to cash in on the nostalgia"

and this ....isnt? did you see the photo of the guys at van-halen.com ? the new one....don't they just look like the happiest group of guys? brought together by a common love for music, not financial woes ? yeah....those guys are all about the music man, gotta love em... how fun would it be to go to a concert where the band was only there to make some money, not there because they love to get out and play? sammy and mike might like to gig but the brothers? if anyone thinks "VH" is on tour cause they WANT to has their head in the clouds... i've always pushed for artists to do what THEY want to do, not what people want to hear....what joe does.... is this what the brothers want to do? or have to do? i view van hagar as aerosmith ala just push play... DLR is a freak, he forgets the words....i view him as a comedian not really a singer.....i'd much rather watch some weirdo with spray on yellow hair & a psycho wardrobe do flying scissor kicks than hear some fat hairy guy sing to me about what love can do, when its love, love walks in, how he can't stop lovin' me, or why this can't be love... i will say the only good hagar era tune was without a doubt "Baluchitherium" that tune is one of eds best.

TRUTINA- she could have, but remember she makes cash doing all those lifetime movies lol

MIKEY VAI- hard to say, eric is a very underrated and awesome guitarist, i dont think we hear what is is capable of, he is a bit reserved in his playing....the guy is like a quiet monster, he directs his abilities into making what he plays sound extremely good... the first guitarist i ever REALLY got into was eric johnson.... it was about late 95' or real early 96' i was still listening to rap, my stepdad had 'ah via musicom' on cd and listened to it on headphones and played along (we lived in hotels at the time) i took a listen and was hooked when i heard cliffs of dover....that was it, next came steve then joe, sold all my rap cd's... i admire joe's work the most but they are all equally talented...

TRUTINA- i agree, i believe eddie has lost his confidence as well.... if you kept yourself inside your house for 6 years you would probably start to doubt yourself as well... ed is a great guitarist but his decision making process is very screwed up, hes one of those guys that has poor business sense but great abilities on the instrument and needs guideance from someone to direct him in a manner that will best suit him in his career... a sort of decision maker or co-decision maker, an advisor.. i mean, mike post as producer for III ? mr. TV theme song man himself...come on ed what are you thinkin. in the radio interview with the iowa dj's he was asked about G3 with satriani & vai and he said "now why would i want to do that?" in a kinda negative tone, at first i was thinking "what a dick.." but now it sounded like he was really saying "why would i want to do that, those cats would kill me" not very confident...maybe he still sees it as a contest, its not... i used to be big on the contest thing too, "whos better joe or steve"..."who would win in a shred fight" but thats just so primitive... i think yngwie thought like that also, but if you read post G3 2003 interviews with him he sees in in an opposite light, its about bringing different styles to the fans...its not a contest, its about having a good time and playing with great musicians. i think ed would have a fucking awesome time if he did G3, he's a bit of an egotist... remember back in the roth days they were always trying to fight eachother over attention and limelight and shit.... if he did G3 he would have no doubt who the fans were there to see... he should do G3, he plays with lukather and leslie west and other guys...sheehan etc... G4 - joe, steve, ed, jeff beck HOLY SHIT.

MARIMARISRV- thanks for the heads up on the PBS thing, hopefully they set a date for it cause ill tape the EJ & vai performances without a doubt, i don't like clapton though....never have, i think hes a bit overrated and somewhat full of himself, thats just the vibe i get but i dont know him personally... out of the "great" 60's guitarists id put him at the bottom 1 - Jimi, 2 - Jeff Beck, 3 - Jimmy Page but thats my opinion.

if anyone wants to take a look at a very good top 100 greatest rock guitar albums click away whoever it is put steve vai in the top 10, quickly followd by jeff beck & joe.... lots of joe on there....

alexandrecaetano- cool list, not surprising that Steve Vai tops them all, hes fast... having speed is one thing, making it tasteful is another...Joe says more with 3 or 4 notes than anyone else can with 50..

MICHELLE/TRUTINA- no problem, the lists they have are generally pretty good, much better than any rolling stone list...plus the list is changed as people post comments regarding srtists/albums etc so the guy who runs it revises it based on input....so its unlikely you will see kurt cobain at the top.

Mr. Nick- if you compare hendrix's abilities on the guitar with those of todays axe masters like joe, steve, john petrucci, yngwie etc he seems very average in his playing but if you look in terms of the sounds he got, the fire in his playing & the passion in which he played its very hard for him to be surpassed... ive seen footage of him playing live where his control over feedback was just mind boggling... i'm not talking steve vai - for the love of god - G3 dvd - 9000 effects and a rack feedback im talking him, guitar, amp feedback....jeff beck does this as well to some degree. Jimi and other guitar players like Randy Rhodes have had their share of "hero worship" where the player is suddenly 20 times what they were when they were alive, that happens with any great guitarist who dies...or even shitty if you look at cobain, but if you listen to his playing and watch him play you know why he is so influential, why his playing and songwriting just grabs people and pulls them in.... he's one of the very best, on a very very short list of musical visionaries who's gift has and will inspire generations of people to come. without jimi there would be no joe... joe would be a working class bum, occasionally thinking back about his football days and "what if i went pro" and that would be a travesty.

JAZZY BOY- i think joe's "fastest" playing, is on either surfing with the alien, where he does that super fast tapping stuff with the pic... or for straight playing it might be Crushing Day, theres some real fast leads on there... and when joe played it live a couple tours ago it looked like he was having a bit of trouble with it, he didnt fuck up or anything but you could see his face grimacing as he stretched all over the fretboard...no wonder they dont like to do the song, it was awesome though! we might not ever hear that tune live again....but we all chanted for it and joe delivered after months...maybe years of hounding, rock on joe.

edit: check it out, guitar world 1999 reader poll... BEST HARD ROCK ALBUM - Metallica, Garage Inc. ---BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT - #2 Metallica - Garage, Inc.... says volumes.

also this year guitar world had some interesting results as well worst bands are Limp Bizkit, Creed, the strokes, and good charlotte...very weird considering all those guys have been on the cover of the mag & the mag caters to those people's fans nowadays. a bit like biting the hand that feeds you. also Metallica's poor-selling new album, "St. Anger," was named biggest disappointment, but it also came in at No. 2 as the best metal album translation - if it sucks and sounds like shit we'll say so but we will also support it cause we like sucky music. and - Metallica's Kirk Hammett was named best metal guitarist, a possible consolation prize for having all his solos cut from "St. Anger," interesting....no guitar but still the best guitarist....why cant i win?

SUPAADAVE- isn't the drummer supposed to be the backbone? he should have just kept on playing, bass player too unless you just kinda took the guitar off and walked away maybe they thought they sucked LOL.... seriously though if u guys play live the drummer & bass player should come up with a cool thing to play while u change guitars or strings... some cool drum & bass stuff.

MIKESB- do you know if joe and robin will be on the show at the same time? that would be cool, i like robin's stuff...

in other news...

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Global music sales fell 7.6 percent in 2003 to $32 billion, the steepest decline since the advent of the compact disc, the trade body representing the world's largest music companies said on Wednesday. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) blamed the slump in retail music sales -- now in its fourth consecutive year -- on rampant piracy, poor economic conditions and competition from video games and DVDs........ yeah must be those pirates, couldn't be that everyone sounds the same & like eachother.... naaa...couldn't be that SOME people are tired of the same old same old. you know what, i blame pirates too....those bastards, they download a new CD, then they dont like the music and they dont go out and buy it.... those thieves! they should go buy it first then if they dont like it not be able to return it cause its been opened, yeah thats what we should do. god forbid anyone should be able to listen to a lump of shit before buying it, there might not be an industry then.

DO THE STU- i'm still perplexed... why download and keep the music if you like the artist? by virtue you dislike the artist if you rip em off... "im a fan" no you arent. im confused.... why do the people who download music by a certain artist, keep it...and go to their shows? its hard for me to understand it.... why keep music by someone you don't respect? cause if you really respected the artist you'd buy it... and if u dont really respect the artist, why are u going to the show? im lost man.... then again people are stupid and if posed these questions the likely response would be "i dont know" or "cause everyone else is".....i guess what im trying to say is people who rip off an artist by downloading their music and keeping it without buying, arent fans afterall...so maybe the artist isnt really losing, i dunno. if only life were so simple...fuckin thieves.

SSA- im not quite sure what squeels u heard, but there were some high pitched sounds that sounded like a combo of wah-wah pedal and note bending, maybe trem thrown in. my favorite satch song... i tried to learn it a couple years ago but got frustrated, i have zero patience and when i dont get results right away i throw the guitar down LOL... for me its play by memory, i dont think anyone can really become a good guitarist playing by memory... you have to learn it, and make the knowledge become innate, having a natural gift helps too...none of which i possess. good luck with the tune.

the best track on this record is "if i could fly" that tune can pull anyone out of a shitty mood... wow... on "hands in the air" at about 2:08 joe's playing some chords....to me it has a summer song vibe to it even though its a much darker sound, then theres like a 4 or 5 note thing he plays in the background that fans left & right which kinda adds that harmonics thing to it....maybe in trippin but its cool. maybe someone knows what im saying

JAZZY BOY- i thought that since marty was with steve's label that there would be a chance of him joining G3, i loved him in megadeth... but i read an interview with him where he basically said hendrix sucked and people only thought he was so great cause they were trippin on acid...what a dick, as far as G3 he can suck a dick.

IceZer - any satch song LOL... i actually had SOME luck with "friends"...its one of joe's easiest songs im sure... i think his EASIEST is probably "home" from the red album, if i could play by ear id have it... i can sorta, i gotta hear a note then play around till i hear it again on the guitar but its just too tedious for me, i have no patience.

SKY- maybe cause peavey decided to make joe an amp the way he wanted one? i dunno....plus artist endorsements can be pretty lucrative, not to say joe's just trying to make money off the deal...but joe deserves any amount of money he gets for the music he has given us.

JOEMAN- but two note power chords are cool man! easy to change from chord to chord, without having to do weird finger contortions just to go from A to D or something...even though joe says they are for monkeys lol

ICEZER- really? tell me more about this Guitar Pro... what is it about?

well i don't think i've ever said this before... but... i'm actually embarrassed for joe... playing in what looked like a little video store? wtf ? i just dropped my head when i saw those pictures... sure joe looked like he was having fun but for some reason i couldnt help but feel embarrased for him, i mean...in one of megaboyds shots it looks like theres a guy browsing for a good sci-fi book while joe is playing guitar! i was trying to see if it was somehow spliced together or something.... as for "Tumble" being an Itunes only song.... fuck that, im sorry joe but im jacking your shit... thats right im jacking your shit... tell me where to send my $1 though, cause im not sending it to apple just for them to have some special distribution thing... im not biying an ipod just to get the tune brother, gimme some kinda mailing address and ill send u the buck, otherwise consider yourself JACKED!

not to say i dont like u LOL

MIKESB- i agree totally...Steve Stevens on G3 would be awesome, i think he would fit perfectly because he is a little similar to joe & steve but very different so their 3 styles would mesh very very well plus i think they would all have a blast, stevens is a very big EVH fan so if EVH aint gonna show up stevens is the next best thing LOL...i think he is very EVH influenced.

AUSTIN- true, i think it was great that he was that up close with the fans... but i just felt this feeling of embarrasment, like "joe's been reduced to playing in record shops" kinda feeling u know... of course he hasnt but still...plus that guy browsing for a good sci-fi book while joe was jamming away killed me...

wow...just noticed that at the credits of the steve vai live at the astoria where he goes to the mic to thank the fans, they play jeff beck's "where were you" over the PA! that tune is just so fuckin awesome its hard to describe, the sounds man....wow...i get chills everytime i hear it... never watched the credits through, always hit STOP when they came on. wonder if they had to pay jeff for it LOL

RIDEKARMA- i repect your opinion, but i think its a decent record, better than EOC by leaps and bounds....but, cant hold a candle to something like the extremist...or even crystal planet, id hate to think joe's best music is behind him because the man has the ability of no one else on this planet.... i guess its just the direction he wants to go, maybe hes mellowing out....not that its a bad thing but i want him to tear my head off with some straight ahead fast tempo rock, the extremist is a perfect example...

TRUTINA- id take flying, surfing, always, rubina, raspberry jam, time, mindstorm.

GODSGUNSGUITARS - thats why i dont like the floyd, too much tweaking to get down to business... they kick ass but too much setup, i think the slingshot floyd is supposed to be just like setting up a regular trem, put the string in and go but i doubt it. i have an original floyd from when they first came out...the one that doesn't have the fine tuners, but its not on either of my guitars cause i dont have the nut... im sure any will do.

just got back from LA... i was switching back & forth between arrow 93.1, 101.5KGB, 103.7 the planet and 95.5 KLOS.....so heres the story... 95.5 started playing "dreams" by van hagar, switched to arrow 93...wasnt any better with barracuda by heart, so i listened to ragdoll on 101.5 the went to arrow 93...nothing...95.5 had "lights" by journey, very fitting to follow up dreams by VH...then i was listening to something else then popped back to 95.5 and guess what...HANDS IN THE AIR by the master himself...i went off...i was yelling "fuck yeah rock on joe" and drivers were looking at me like i was psycho...i was flying at 100mph down the freeway, the governor on the truck kicked in and wouldnt let me go any faster... i was rocking for a while....best part of the day, made getting up at 5:00am worth it.
