har har I saw meatloaf's new cd advertised on tv, was such a trip to see steve vai's name on tv.

on G3 - in terms of selling the package, Yngwie was a good choice....others would be Paul Gilbert (bigtime), Jeff Beck (oh...what a G3), a sober/sane EVH (he says he's open to anything now, but he ain't sober), and buckethead.... I'd like to see jeff beck on G3 out of those choices.... not a big fan of his newer techno type stuff, but the old stuff...led boots, the pump, freeway jam, blue wind, star cycle, plynth...get jeff!

OVATION1- he's lying... jess likes to play with other guys, he did the ARMS benefit (yes many many years ago) with clapton and page, he occasionally plays with other guys like lukather and santana....he's lying dude, I think he thinks it's a competition and is probably uncomfortable playing alonside guys of joe and steve's caliber - when it's not even like that.

from a Joe interview -

Kim: I know that you're the driving force behind G3. Do you have any guitarists that you have your eye on for future shows?

Joe We spend about a year to about a year and a half prior to hitting the road and the nature of the business is that you have to really work on a couple of different scenarios at once until one of them looks like it's truly gonna take off. I've gone after the obvious choices. I've been calling Eddie Van Halen and Jeff Beck for many years consistently trying to get them to come out. I've asked Kirk Hammett, from Metallica, to come out. You know, some of these guys don't like leaving their bands to come out and go solo, even if it's just for six weeks of shows. So that's been difficult. Some of the other guys, maybe, are uncomfortable standing on stage with other guitarists. They really prefer to go out on their own tours and not have that scene where they have to mix it up with other players. Generally though, I've always found that if I can get them to do one G3 show, it always changes their mind. They realize that it's not a competition, it's a very musical and friendly event and the audience doesn't see it as a competition at all, so they really have nothing to worry about. It's just getting them to that first show that's the tough part. (laughs)

jeff is one of joe and steve's bigger influences, he would have a blast out there.... even if it was just one single cameo somewhere.

it would be a great tragedy if it never happened..... he doesn't really fit a G3 mold, joe and jeff go together a lot better than jeff and steve cause joe kinda plays everything and he's more into the bluesy stuff... steve is just crazy.... maybe a G2 like he did with johnson.

check out quantcast, they tell you what type of people visit certain sites...

http://www.quantcast.com/satriani.com

according to them joe has a huge caucasian population, most have college degrees

http://www.quantcast.com/vai.com

vai gets mostly hispanic visitors, and a slight edge to no college degree...

where they get this info I don't know, but it's kinda interesting....they have other stats too.

JOE- you most certainly are...

well it seems every year joe gets a grammy nom and every year they snub him.... what the ? I wonder if joe just treats the notices they send him like credit card offers and shreds them? oh, another grammy nom - throw it in the junk mail pile. lol.

Zenfish- who doesn't? the guy was a phenomenal player, he put a lot into his playing... check out his austin city limit performances.

so why is Steve missing from G3? adding Gilbert is brilliant, never was a Petrucci fan... I guess he adds some kind of balance, since Paul is a lot like Steve it might have been too tech heavy.... Paul is a wonderful addition, not sure why I don't like petrucci.

"froze my fingers to the bone dipping frozen chicken parts in cold batter"

argh that blows.

song of the day - "Every breath you take"

OVATION1- yeah I think thats it, he puts his leg up on the monitor and goes to work...he is kinda boring to me, I mean he is phenomenal... but you are right about the stage presence thing, it seems to me like he is disconnected from his music....joe on the other hand is the opposite, you can watch him playing FIABD and he's got his glasses on so you can't see that his eyes are closed and he's in a trance!

JOE- It seems every year you get another Grammy nom, do you attend the Grammy's regularly or just stay busy with what you do and keep your fingers crossed? my step dad was associate producer on Ike Turner's grammy nominated album "Risin' With The Blues" in the "Best Traditional Blues Album" category.... doubt Ike wins.

good luck Joe.

edit: BTW he wasn't real familiar with your stuff so my step dad played him some, he said "I dig that"

flaming lips, what a joke... when it's all said and done joe know we know he's the man and thats all that matters, the voters need to get a clue.

from an undated interview with joe and steve, not sure how accurate the statements made by joe are since the guy said joe is single and steve is married...wtf? -

"I'm not jaded at all about comparisons to Van Halen. Jesus, he's great!" declared Satriani. "I don't know him real well, but the times that I've met him, he's a really nice guy. And just on a personal level, when I shook his hand, I looked at him and said to myself, 'this guy's the real thing, you know?' Sometimes you can just tell when you meet an artist, if they're bluffing or if they're really great, and he's really great, no doubt about it. I mean you could just look at the guy and you could tell he had the . . . whatever."

In light of the Roth connection, I asked Vai if he ever thought he competed directly with Eddie Van Halen.

"Are you kidding? Eddie is brilliant," said Vai. "I wasn't even trying to compete with Ed. You're an idiot for even trying to compete with him. Look, all I was thinking was that Dave and I hit it off pretty good and we wrote this great bunch of songs, and I was going to do the best that I possibly could and just let things fall where they may.

"Besides, Eddie has this way of writing a pop song that I just don't have," admitted Vai. "I mean, he's really, really good."

All humbleness aside, this is coming from the guy who wrote most of the music for the first two Roth albums, including the hits, "Yankee Rose," "Goin' Crazy," This Must Be Just Like Living In Paradise," "Those Were Good Times" and the very cool "Hina."

"I was just thinking about that song today," said Vai. "That is the perfect statement on my career: I was in the middle of this solo [during 'Hina'] and I was on my knees picking this one note; the lights were all on me and as I looked over my shoulder I thought, 'I'm here. I've made it. This is it!' And the crowd went nuts."

http://www.synthesis.net/music/story.php?type=band&id=1480

so joe has met EVH, a few times...EVH needs to do G3 man! maybe after this whole Van Halen/Roth /Wolfgang tour he will be out of his cave and be ready to jam.... let's hope.

HOIGUY79- thanks for the link, Stanley Jordan is absolutely crazy amazing...

according to the wikipedia Grammy notes -

Alan Parsons and Joe Satriani are tied for most Grammy nominations at thirteen without winning.

I have a funny feeling Joe will stand alone in that category, shame...f'in shame.

JOE- I agree with the Van Halen request...Panama would be good, or some other classic VH tune...you guys could tear it up...maybe get eddie to wanna play. If you do, then put out a DVD lol.

Song of the Day - Extreme - Money (In God We Trust) for some reason I like this tune, and it gets stuck in my head for days after I hear it.

Jeff Beck on american Idol, I've seen it ALL now....

thought the guy had too much integrity to appear on that show, especially an episode so exploitative... does american idol think everyone is stupid? money saves people with aids? yes they actually said that.

I think jeff was told it was something a little different

how much did ellen degeneres give? simon? madonna (besides buying kids from malawi after they pass HIV tests) ? Bono? what was it with him, some guy said 'take my son or he will die' and bono said no....kid died, bono tried to make it a positive and said what? "but i took him in many other ways" like he's a magnet for the souls of the the truly homeless and poor of the world...bono has no credibility... when you have exxon mobil getting publicity off of something like this you know it's a sham.

I pray that this money ACTUALLY goes to help these people who are far worse off than poor people in the USA... I PRAY.

anything for ratings I guess.

SHREDGUY - interesting question, I don't know if Joe is or not. Aliens and Christianity are sort of contradictory themes unless it's more of a stage persona. I don't think it really matters, I don't believe in it and if Joe does it wouldn't make me think any less of him... everyone is into their own thing - so long as everyone is into peace, love, and good happiness stuff it's all good.

Kelly Clarkson got to do something Joe Satriani might give a few fingers from his picking hand for.... bet she didn't even know who he was!!!!!! oh the undeserving!!!!!!!!! oh the unappreciative!!! I doubt she even had a clue as to the genius of the guy standing next to her, not an f'in clue....the legend, the man, the mind....I can't get my mind around it

Coors or Bud Select? forget that, coors light is ok, bud select is gross... corona is good with tacos and the like - but for me it's Vodka and Juice or Coke, or light Rum.... tried to get into wine but it tastes gross to me, I can stand Pinot Grigio but red wine eck! joe likes wine, on the satch tapes EVH's producer said he was drunk on wine during the extremist sessions.... ok not drunk, he was 'relaxed' lol.

Faster Pussycat for G3.

I disagree a little with Steve Vai's choices, but it's all taste and personal preference....IMO the 2 best guitarists today are Beck and Satch, they really can't be matched when it comes to the entire package of writing, sound, playing etc...

while I threw out Faster Pussycat for G3, I'll also throw out Britny Fox...yeah, let's get 'Girl School' for G3 jam....you know you wanna rock it. LOL.

I would really like to see a Satch/Beck/EVH G3, that would be like WOW!!!!!!! but Beck says it's not his thing, and EVH is spun... would be great for ed to get out there and jam with satch.... maybe a VH reunion warmup, even if it's just 5 or 10 dates.... make a DVD and split it 3 ways, same with a CD.... call it a day and get back to doing what you were doing.

Jason Bonham for G3

I think it's cool he plays the skins, hopefully ZZ carries on his dad's legacy, I understand he is quite talented in that department and took to it pretty well.... maybe there will one day be a kid all star band jam with all the rock star kids like zz, wolfgang and steve's kids, that would be cool
