GeorgeG, the point of the Tesla Roadster is to prove that Electric Vehicle's can be fast, sporty and look cool. All the hybrid's thus far, are designed really ugly for some reason, in my opinion at least.
And this is Tesla's first vehicle, they plan to bring sedan's etc to the market very soon.
While the Tesla Roadster isn't as practical as other 100k sport cars [oxymoron?] it really does compare pretty well, especially that linear torque curve produced by the Electric Motor's.
And one more point :) people buy them because they want a vehicle that produces no greenhouse gases. On a side note, Hybrid's are actually less cost effective [even with gas savings] than regular vehicles that get good gas millage, mainly because of the premium of buying a Hybrid.
I am right into cars, and while I would miss the sound of a combustion engine, I'd love to own a Tesla Roadster! [as long as I could also have a 997 911 Turbo in the garage as well hehe]
Question for you, Joe> There is a cool little chromatic 5th's prelude solo you play before "Rubina" Live in San Fran, and "Ten Words" on the new DVD. Any rhyme or reason to this?
