well, Maybe not.I think Boyd, Graham and I share a lot of the same top ten Satch tunes, at least pretty much.Well, it would have to be a top twenty, something like:

Engines of Creation, Time Machine, Clouds Race Across the Sky, Echo, With Jupiter in Mind, Lords of Karma, Time, Oriental Melody, Trundrumbalind, Forgotten part 2, Mystical Potatoe Head, Why, Memories, Until We Say Goodbye, stuff like that are my favorites.

Tunes like Attack and Slow and Easy don't get enough attention around here either, as far as I see it, but what do I know?

yeah, that speed list is not really reliable.First off, they didn't really look hard for examples, and second of all a lot of the speeds are not really as impressive when you consider that tapping, legato or sweeping was used.

Its not so much that the list is wrong, its just not definitive or reliable. They chose stuff like master of puppets for Kirk, and clocked him doing what is basically trem picking on the high E.They didn't take in to consideration the thousands and thousands of recorded examples out there that are faster than anything on the list. But I don't think it is really that important, or anything to get in a huff about.Who cares?

Yeah, I mean, all those guys except Kirk are really fast, but they wouldn't be on the list at all if you spent about five minutes on the internet seeing all the crazy stuff that is out there.

However fast it gets though, I still prefer actual music rather than shred nonsense.

Sky_Ant- As far as tricky DT songs go, ACOS is honestly pretty easy, compared to say, Beyond this Life or Metropolis or something.

No one said they can play 30 NOTES per SECOND.Graham said the reverse.Jeezis.
Nick-Cool man.Have fun with it, its a good workout.
Clarky-Yeah, I agree.I'd love to see a lot of these shredder guys try alternate picking Zappa stuff like Moggio up to speed, makes the 3 note per string stuff seem like a joke.It would kill them!
Joe's fastest playing is probably on Bells of Lal part 2.He really doesnt cut loose speed wise often, it's kinda cool to just hear him go for it every now and then.

Clarky-Yeah, those guys are fucking pussies.3 note per string BS.I thought I was a bad ass until I TRIED to learn the motif from St.Alphonzo's Pancake Breakfast.Put me in my place REAL fast.

Another thing, half the time shred heads(myself included, mind you) do completely canned licks at those tempos. Its REALLy hard to TRULY improvise at high speeds.I can't really do it, I have to work out most licks before I can motor on em.

Greyfox-Rusty is much faster than Joe and Vai.But hten again, that is his big goal, to be really fast. That is definately not Satch or Vai's goal. Please remember that faster does not equal better.I think I am faster than Joe and Vai, but they smoke me like a fine cuban.Speed is a small portion of what guitar playing, nay, music is about.

I drink alone-Me too.I mean I drink alone.ANd when I do, I usually prefer to be by myself.

Speaking of which, only Hornitos Tequila goes in my margaritas, as of about 2 minutes ago.The difference between this and that Cuervo nonsense is stunning.Like the difference between "punching an eclair" and true love. ;D

See Zappa's Jazz Discharge Party hats if the reference is too obscure.

I haven't made fun of my Mom in a while.I Must be getting soft.

Zachary-Hey man, good call on Danny Gatton. His playing was something else!Vai once said in an interview that if he had to pick the best guitarist on earth, hed say Danny.Id say Morse, but thats just me.Id rather listen to Joe above em all though.

One of the cooler things about Danny was that he was a monster of a player, but totally could care less about the theory side of it.I have both of his videos, and in one of them he is talking about chords. He goes"I really don't know what kinda of chord this is, but I like it a lot.Its got an "A" in it, so I guess it's some kind of A chord."

Miss the guy.Him, Shawn Lane and Zappa SHOULD still be alive right now.Its just not right.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind-Wow, what a great movie.I just loved it.I love it when movies have you totally baffled, and sem to make no sense, and then one pice is revealed and it all makes sense.Jim Carrey is so under-rated as a serious actor.

Just watched Matrix 3 again.Man it sucks.
Well, apparently the repair went fine on my guitar...50$!I was afraid of a 3-400$ bill, lol.
Ninja Gaiden is clearly the best way to spend your day.Just play that all day, every day, and you will turn out to be one well adjusted Ninja.

Ted Nugent was a big influence on Steve Morse, so he can live.As far as I know he eats his kills, and doesn't really do it for sport.Crazy fucker, that guy is.

My favorite Ted quote:(Said to some chick) "Looks are fleeting my dear, you need a contingency plan"

Man, I played video games for several hours.Roms rule.Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Bionic Commando. My hands are tired.

UF DEAN-Yeah, I know.I just can't get over how awesome the second one was.Its like denial...HOW the fuck did they mess up such a great thing? The 2nd matrix set up some brilliant stuff, and they just took the easiest way out.It was just lame.I think ANYBODY could have made the 3rd one work with the way they had it set up after the 2nd one, I just cannot believe it.Oh well!

YAYO-Yeah, I think I have read about that guy in guitar World years ago, he had an accident and part of one finger was grafted on to another, thats why his pinky looks so fucked.

Maybe its just me, but I would have guessed he could stretch a lot further than that, given how long his pinky is.

Jazzy-I have no problem with Metallica charging for that stuff. I also have no problem NOT paying for it.Metallica sucks.

I would have no problem with Joe doing the same thing, honestly.Dream Theater has a similar thing going on, and I'd pay for that if I could afford it.

Joeman-I rule.Thanks for asking.
Ok, this guy WONT STOP playing vibraphone in the store right now.I think I might kill him.He is trying to play "Deck the halls", but he is tone deaf, so he is playing "Deck the halls with the whole tone scale"He has been here for 2-3 hours, playing every instrument.Grrrrr

Fuck him.

Don't like the new album much.Bummer.

Searching is pretty good, Gnaa is cool.Is there love in space is probably my favorite track.Too much wah though.

I dunno, some of it just seemed way to happy for my tastes.Bamboo bummed me out, becuase it doesn't relly go anywhere. Its just one big intro....

Sorry to be negative, I was also one of the few who didn't like Strange Beautiful music.

Oh well! Can't win em all, right?Hopefully some of it will grow on me.

Jazzy-Joe has explained why he plays the classics.Thats what most of the fans want.Trust me, no one wants to hear the rarities more than me, but Joe mentioned the reasons in one of his posts.Just read Joe's posts.

If I had my way, Summer song would be banned :D

But I respect Joe's decisions. Its his show, let him play what he wants.Ill be there no matter what, complaining about the setlist, no matter what. :D

He helps us out though. Its us who got him to play Time Machine, I think. We got Power Cosmic last G3, and Why.Im glad he mixes it up a little bit.

I think the tunes I like on the new album are more than worth the price of the CD.I really, really love the title track. Its up there with Joe's finest, for me.Its just beautiful. The outro solo is perfect.

Im really anxious to hear the bonus tracks, hopefully they are more the esoteric type songs that Joe does that I love so much, as opposed to the "rocking out and having a good time" songs, which just aren't me.Weird how that works.

I like the strange stuff.

rusty dog-Nice to see someone agree with me.I felt all by my lonesome when SBM came out, and everyone loved it but me.There were some good tunes on that one though, to be fair.Joe is always gonna have a few tunes on every album that kill me.

I feel bad criticizing Joe (on his own page no less) so I really hope my thoughts don't come off as disrespectful.Joe is as important as it gets for me in the musical world, so I definately don't mean any disrespect, but I won't lie.

I also don't wanna sound like one of those "the old stuff was better"guys.I see the nostalgia thing in full swing at the dream theater websites, and it bugs me when people can't let go of the past.

But, I figure If I get one amazing tune of every album, then I am getting my money's worth a hundred times over.I got 2 awesome tunes from this one, and a couple that I dont mind so much.

At any rate, I KNOW the tour won't disappoint.

Rusty dog-Lol, thanks man.You are probably the only person who got the Hayabusa thing right, lol. Most people go "Is that really your last name?" or "that's an awesome motorcycle"

I hope he plays the title track live too.

Clarky-You didn't like EOC? lol.I think that album is the best, hehe.

But yeah, I mean, I am the same as you.Even though I wasnt into SBM, for the tour I went to 2 shows back to back nights, and I acted like a teenage girl at a ricky martin concert at both of them.Joe is as good as it gets.

Trutina-Who....me? :D(bats eyelashes)

Honestly, when I first asked Joe about it in Seattle for the SBM tour, he said that they had been talking about Time Machine in rehearsals, so I'm sure it wasn't JUST me.Although since my votes count as 2, I'm sure I helped a little :D

I think it is AWESOME that Joe actually reads all our posts, and actually bases some things on what we think or want.

I think some people were probably annoyed at my constant PLAY EOC AND TIME MACHINE !!!! posts back then, but hey, same thing happened with Crushing Day, and that got played, so I figured it would work :D

Same thing with Slick and the 8 steps, I think our enthusiasm definately helped getting those released in some form.
