962-Are you sure about Joe using the DS-1 through the gain channel?I'm pretty sure I remember talking to him about that and he uses it through the clean channel.I can't say I'm positive, because it was a while ago, but I'm pretty sure.I think I've read it to somewhere, but I'm really not positive about that either, hehe.

Hey, check out the band Stu Clone and I are in if you get a chance.

http://www.myspace.com/thejanitorsofchaos

On the Satch cover(Devil's slide) the other guitarist (john) and myself trade leads with me going first, and in "The Riddle of Steel" he takes the first solo(clean tone) and I take the second solo(distorted, sucks).

All the tracks are from our last show.Apologies for wrong notes and such, it is live! :D

let me know what you think.

Cube-I liked your track, what I heard of it.I don't see what the criticism could be about.

Thanks to all who checked out the link.I agree, the mix could have been louder on the guitar side.Hopefully we can get some better recording eventually.

For anyone who missed it, its www.myspace.com/thejanitorsofchaos

I am starting to think Joe is definately not gonna make it this way for his solo shows.Bummer, I kept expecting that they would announce a date in january or December or something.
Playing Castlevania for PS2 right now.I never hear anybody talk about this game, it rocks!

Chron- I agree
Austin-I would like to.My Job sucks, they don't allow time off in Dec or Jan.I might just quit and go back to teaching guitar, but I dunno if I could find enough students around here.We shall see.

I would also like to get down there for the Dregs show.

hey Cube-You don't know if the guy claiming to be Buckethead on www.myspace.com is the real thing do you?

He added the janitors as a friend.Check out his profile from our page-

www.myspace.com/thejanitorsofchaos

I kinda suspect that it is him, but he doesnt mention Michael Jordan, M. Jackson, Paul Gilbert, or Shawn Lane in his profile, and I could have sworn bucket was like, 6' 5 or something.

Thebob-Joe has mentioned the "Joe Pass Chord Book" in the past.I got it, and it's good, but I like Ted Greene's "Chord Chemistry" more.

Greene actually goes into how to use chords, rather than just an encyclopedia for chords. Most chord books arent that great as stand alones.it's like trying to learn english with just a dicitonary.

Clarky-Maybe I misread your post, but Joe doesn't back out of the tricky parts live.Maybe he did pre-Self titled album, but I haven't seen him omit or avoid anything live since I first saw him in 96.

In fact, the last G3 I saw him do he did the original "Power Cosmic, which is probably his most difficult piece (well, its just a bunch of arpeggios, but still)

Maybe I took your point out of context.Idunno.

Clarky-Yeah, he DOES play it note for note live, aside for 2-3 simple songs, like Cool # 9 and stuff like that.I would prefer he just went crazy.I saw him at a clinic about half a year ago.I could hear him doing a sound check, during which he just went off during Satch Boogie.I preferred it to the ALBUM !!

Wish he would do that more.Out of the 8 or so times I have seen him, I would say its 99% note for note, the other 1% is easy stuff for him.

Clarky-No worries man.I know Joe has said in interviews that his accuracy has gone up dramatically in the last few years or so, and the first time I saw him was when I was like 15, so take my memories of that event with a grain of salt, hehe.

I would actually say that although Joe does most of his stuff note for note, I wish he would just rip, really just play loosely and mess with the arrangements a lot.He does that here and there, but I would love to see a whole show of "never know what is gonna happen next" type stuff. For me, having seen him like, 9 times or something, I think his setlists can be a little...I dunno, safe, for me.

But then again, I gotta realize that he is playing for a lot of people, and most of them aren't as fanatical as me.I suppose for the guy seeing Joe for the first time, note for note is gonna make that person happiest.

What can ya say?

Zacahary-That sword looks awesome.I would love something like that, man.I have been pondering taking iado lessons. There is a dojo down the street....

Ya-Yo Gak-Yeah, I think I posted that at the petrucciforum before.

I actually have always felt that Vai's stuff in that was altered, mostly because the notes sound high, like not A=440 type high.

I also have a bootleg of him playing it on the Fire Garden tour, and he sucks at it...well, he did that night.

Cool read anyhoo

Don't get me wrong, I am not criticizing Vai, I think he is one of the best, and I'm not accusing him of speeding up his parts, I'm accusing the filmmakers of doing it.It's not sped up by much at any rate.If my memory is correct, then I think the nylon classical stuff sounded funny too....it has been a while since I have seen it.

JOE_would you mind clarifying where the G3 shows with Petrucci will be?I'm seeing a lot of guys at other forums who misunderstood your newsletter. It's only in Japan, right? Thanks if you get a chance to answer!

Had fun at the show last night. The setlist was decent.

I now know that the sound is much better at the back of the room than a few feet away from the stage. It was SO LOUD.

Highlight was the tone for the rhythm section on "Time".It sounded HUGE.

I can safely say I don't need to hear "Strange" every again though. :D jk

Well, I was right next to a monitor, and I forgot the ear plugs, so it was my own damn fault.

I really wanna try a JSX.It sounded great.

Mike-Yeah, I'll look into the Howe stuff.I like his solos on JRudess's kast album.
Cube-I always knew he was awesome, but I never knew how awesome.I got hermit and Adventures a few months ago, and then I got the other stuff a week ago, and I'm hooked.
VFrocker-Yeah, I spend so much money on CDs now.I gotta calm down.

Regarding negativity on the JSX being loud: I don't think it was the JSX that ws so loud, it was just the venue. My buddy that I went with told me that everyone sounds loud as there cu of the shape of the room, so that was probably it.That and I was 15 feet from the stage, right in front of a bunch of monitors, and I forgot my ear plugs.

I would say that he has a lot more gain now than before.I have seen Joe 11 times now, and 5 of them were with the JSX.The tone is great on them! The reno G3 show was definitely the best though.

New Petrucci cd is really good-except for wishful thinking. That one sounds like it's off of the soundtrack to "Mannequinn" or some 80's movie.

Ok, Curve is kinda lame on the new Petrucci album too.He has a really interesting tone on the album, I dunno, more mid range or something.I didn't care for "lost without you" live, but his phrasing on the album is some of his best ever.

Great album overall, but a little short on new stuff, being that the best tunes were on the G3 tour 4 years ago, and he hardly altered them. 8/10

check out Joe in a French inteview playing some acoustic. He sounds Killer!

I like when the guy asks Joe to play unlike Satriani, and Joe says "No, I can only play like what I am"

I would love to jam with Joe.

Some day, eh?I can't hang with his level just yet :D
