quito/miguipais/alexandro --- i have heard from a friend that Fruity Loops doesn't provide realistic drum tracks for rock music as they are mainly 'techno" beats meant for people creating electronic music. What do you guys think? cos i'm looking for a programme to create drum loops too....

quito / plum loco thanks for the advice!! i will try messing around with it someday and see if i can wrench some cool drum sounds out of it....! lol...
OCPS470 I think you can find a Jap BOSS DS-1 on ebay pretty easily. I used to see quite a few on there. Also, try to get an upgraded DS-1 from Robert Keeley at robert keeley's site. Even Steve Vai got his DS-1 pedals modified by him!!
2 TON TESSIE Led Zeppelin is my all-time favourite band!! I wish i didn't have school so i could watch the DVD all day! hahhaha.... my favourite bit is the white summer solo... how about yourself?

Matt King --- logo is cool!! I'm not so sure about the slogan below though....but I have no idea what the words say! Is that Japanese? I'm Chinese and those are actually Chinese words but it could be Japanese too... what does it mean?? It doesn't seem to mean anything in Chinese....

Do the Stu --- well, orangeade already answered your question.

orangeade --- hey no worries. I wasn't pissed or anything; it's just that the 'ACS=bad chinese' stigma has gotten really old. btw, i'll be back in singapore in about 2 weeks and i was wondering if you would like to meet up? just to hang out and talk about satch? lol... my email is chemicalmagical@yahoo.com.sg

matt and other guys --- i actually think pop music is really hard to write. it's really difficult to write one hit song, IMHO. i don't necessarily think playing more notes (shredding) precludes any expression, some fast playing sometimes gives a feeling nothing else can. joe's favourite example is 'flight of the bumblebee". i love PG's solo stuff much more than racer X but that's my taste.

OCPS470 --- funny that you should think that way about learning legato! i actually find it harder to do legato runs with distortion. lol... i guess everyone has their own way of learning and playing.... very interesting

OCPS470 --- yeah you pretty much guessed it, i find that distortion adds noise and sometimes takes away the individual nuances of each note. it depends on what context the legato run is in. when there is distortion, i kinda feel like you can't rely on distortion so you have to strive to make the notes come alive ...

OCPS470 --- no i have no money to get new gear. lol... I use a Marshall DSL 401 combo with a DS-1 for distortion. Actually i am not really having any problems... just that i do notice a difference when playing clean and with dist. Playing clean (esp with legato) gives a more intimate feel. Distortion obviously adds more power and a different feel. but you're right. back when i was starting out, string noise and damping were the main obstacle.

Hey everyone!
I went to the G3 show in San Diego and it was awesome!! Everyone there kicked butt!! but I was wondering if any of you knew what amps Joe is using for this tour. I looked and it didn't seem like they were marshalls (then again, i was way back in the 14th row). any ideas guys? mesa boogie?
thanks
p.s. I personally voted to see satch boogie, flying in a blue dream, always.. etc

Do The Stu and Sammy Andrews --- thanks a lot guys!! yeah you're right they are peavey amps. I thought so at first but I would have guessed that Joe would use Mesas rather than peaveys, for some reason. thanks again! Do the Stu, are you a bassist in the socal area?
Megaboyd -- which show did you watch? I caught the San Diego G3 show and I thought Yngwie did a fantastic job. true he did swirl his guitar around a lot, but I thought he played well and added a different taste to joe and steve's music. for that show, he had technical problems with his guitar so he kinda stopped playing at the wrong times. I'm not much of a yngwie fan and don't know any of his songs. Still, I think he's good. just my humble opiinon.
climbers flash/diana --- good points! we all enjoy joe's music and that's why we're here. simple as that. Sorry to alienate non-musicians.

anuj --- thanks for the info man!!! really appreciate it!! wow, I never expected Joe to stop using marshall amps. i thought he loved them; but it's not good to stick to one thing all the time. Yeah i thought they looked like triple X amps, but I was thinking, "nah..." No DS-1 either? quite a difference!! I did notice his tone was much crispier compared to last year at the HOB in LA. cool stuff.

Hi all you guys who watched G3:
I caught the show in San Diego, and as I was leaving I overheard some people saying how much of a musician Yngwie was; he didn't always play and he let Joe and Steve bust it out. He didn't just play for the sake of playing....
maybe that's another way of looking at his attitude?
cheers,
T.
