Hi people! Supposedly luthite has a nice clean sound (whatever that means), as opposed to wood guitar bodies. I guess I would be a little upset if I bought a JS 10th and didnt know it was a luthite body....but i'm sure I would get over it quick enough....lol! I read that there were only 300 made (can that be true?) I see one for sale occasionally, you would think that they would be impossible to find. Unless you are referring to the model that was discontinued because of finishing problems or something....what was it? a JS-2?.....Peace, Dave

Matt Holden...You're doing just fine....Play what you want to play. It amazes me that Joe thinks of Hendrix 99% of the time because I hear very little of Jimi's style in his playing (thats a compliment Joe!!) except for the occasional wah wah parts, Joe sounds like Joe in my opinion. I can't pin down who his influences are, so I think that Joe is a modern day pioneer. Last week I was playing some riffs online for a friend in Canada and he told me I sounded like Stevie Ray Vaughan. I was kind of insulted because I try so hard to be myself when I'm playing guitar. As it turns out, that IS myself. Playing those light speed scales and whatnot are fun, but I prefer to play what comes from my heart and not from a tab book.....anyways I'll quit blubbering........SPARROW, if you find one of those hooded sweatshirts let me know, I want one too...lol............Peace, Dave

Mark Harold: That putz from Paris does'nt sound like much of a fan to me.....I doubt I'll ever see a BAD Joe Satriani show. But if I do, I'm sure it will still be good...heh heh

Once more, Happy Birthday Joe!!!

Everyone in Great Britain.....enjoy the shows!!!!!!

I have to laugh at some of the people who are complaining because theyre not going to have good seats. Be it because their credit card isnt accepted or because a girlfriend has to tag along.......you should be grateful that you are getting to see him.....He's not coming to Minneapolis, and I'm sure its because most people up here are inbred, narrow-minded, rednecks who would rather listen to Garth Brooks or some good ol' Polka music...sorry Joe, I know the theater wasnt packed the last time you came, but I was there........

Juansatanic666.....they are Duncan "pearly gates" pick-ups....personally, I don't think they have the "nuts" required to handle Joe's style....but if he likes them, that has to count for something.....

Hey everyone.....This is the guitarist formally known as alien32....as you can see, my new nickname says it all....I'm trying really really hard to live up to it....I figured since I'm here every day, it might help me to see that "nick" everyday too. I'm sure I'll get no objections from anyone and I'd appreciate any advice or personal stories anyone has that might help me kick the worst habit I've ever had in my life. I started smoking 17 years ago and I've had enough........Peace, Dave

Michelle,Austin,Shell,Justjoan.....thanks for your input and encouragement, it really helps a lot. Its been 3 days since my last "cig", doesnt seem like much but it is for me. The guys at work have noticed how irritable I have become...lol. I'm suffering from dizzyness, sweating, I'm high as a kite all the time...your body really gives you a good buzz when you deprive it of nicotine. It's definately tolerable and I'm on my way back to good health. I have to say that the best incentive I've had to quit has been my 5 year old daughter who had told me numerous times that she does not want me to die....Its wonderful to know that she loves and cares for me so much :) Thanks again...........Dave

Major Tom, I just made a contribution to your cause....I "stemmed" for Joe...lol! Its nice to see that he is number 3 on the list. Anyways, who the heck is Jan Akkerman? Some Norweigan shredder? He's got to be a decent guitarist if he is #1.

Joe, I was wondering.....on your song "Day at the Beach" (new rays of an ancient sun), is your guitar tuned differently or are you using a capo?

NonSmoker is still NonSmoking......

P.S. I asked about Day at the Beach because my friends are getting married next month and they asked me to play that song during a part of their wedding ceremony, I thought that was a cool idea, except I've never tried to play it the right way..lol...your input would be greatly appreciated.......Dave

Michelle, thanks for your encouragement :) I'm noticing already that I can smell and taste foods better, also because I'm eating my refrigerator empty. I need to do something to keep my mind off it...I might as well eat..lol! I have excellent metabolism so I'm not gaining any weight. The funny thing, is that a guy at work smokes, and I cant stand the smell of it, its sickening. I'm taking that as a positive sign :)

JBlaze1, impacted ears sounds painful..."ouch". A while back my hearing was starting to fade. Also, I've been deaf in my right ear since I was a baby (ear infections..etc), so it was especially noticable for me. I went and had them looked at and found out they needed to be cleaned. The nurse flushed out my ear with semi-hot water and (this is gross), pulled out a chunk of dust/earwax/sawdust (I work at a sawmill) out of my ear about the size of a quarter! I dont know how I was able to hear at all...nasty.

OK so now that everyone has lost their appetite....haha, have a great weekend everyone.......You Too Joe :)

SweepPick, I thought I read somewhere that he uses the classics in one of his chrome guitars.

Joe, when do you find time to teach guitar lessons? And might I ask, how much is a student expected to know before they even walk in the room? I suppose you would expect the person to at least know theory before you will sit down with them....or are you a little more compassionate :)

We all hope you will come to Minneapolis in the near future....

Hello all!!!

I know that the Bill Clinton - Monica Lewinsky thing is ancient history, but I heard a funny joke today. I'm sorry if anyone gets offended.......What does Monica Lewinsky and a vending machine have in common?

They both say "Insert Bill Here"

navlag, welcome aboard :) I think you will find that most everyone in here can be very interesting and quite informative! Ask a question of any kind and I'm sure someone can answer it....

As a matter of fact, I have one tonight.

Does anyone have a good link to some "Satch" tabs? I cant seem to get to Gates of infinity anymore, dont know why. What I'm really looking for is tabs for "Devil's Slide"....I finally convinced the band to do a few instrumentals. I was curious if tabs for LISF were ever created. Thanx......Dave

Hello everyone! I entered to win the guitar signed by Joe. I was surprised that it was'nt a JS-1000....it looks to me like an S-520 with the mahoghany body, I thought Ibanez discontinued that model. Anyhow, it would be cool to win an axe with his signature.

Mr. Luini (webmaster), has there been any news about the contests that are supposed to happen here? I'm curious as to what kind of things are being given away......Thanks, Dave

NonSmoker is still non-smoking :)

PhrygianDominant,I'm sure it's been a little over a week since I quit. But then again I'm not sure...lol. I have'nt been myself since. Man the punishment your body puts you through when you deprive it of nicotine.....sudden sweating, dizziness, lack of concentration. It's not continuous, but it comes in waves...pretty wild! Plus as I mentioned before, my taste buds are coming back to life, I enjoy eating even more now :) I think one of these days you will decide you've had enough, just like I did. And that helps you stay away from them.......Peace, Dave

Cool pictures Joe.....I like the one with you and Steve Morse. Michelle is right, you looked very happy to be there :)

Narface, if there is such a thing as a "bad day" of trying out guitars, it's still better than a good day at work...lol. I always get a kick out of going to Guitar Center and having the salesman with the long hair, earring and the thin 80's tie talking to me like I'm totally unexperienced and have no idea what I'm doing there. It does'nt matter what guitar you pick up, they will tell you it's top of the line and start blurting out famous names who supposedly play them...haha!

Come back to Minneapolis sometime in the near future Joe........Later, Dave

HiGain, go to www.ibanezrules.com, I know he has a JS 10th Chromeboy for a little under $3000 (ouch), I hope your parents are as generous as you say they are...lol

Austin!! Where have you been? It's not the same without you....lol! I know you have been busy...welcome back!

Hey everyone !!!

Well, another year has passed (very quickly I might add), and I have attained the ripe old age of 33 !!! It seems like every year around my B-day, I think back on what I have accomplished so far (I'm sure everyone does, right?) Unfortunately, I took the wrong path early on.....I was having too much fun partying to even consider going to college, that is something I will regret for a long time. But I look at it this way, I still have plenty of time to do that, and someday I will :) On a more positive note, I have two of the greatest children in the world who look up to me and love me very much. I could'nt possibly live without them, and I work my tail off 40 hours a week to make sure they are'nt hungry. No complaints here ! Also, despite the abuse I have inflicted on myself and my brain...lol...in the years before my children were born, I can still tear up an electric guitar :) Interestingly enough, I have been deaf in my right ear for as long as I can remember, and despite that, I have an excellent ear for music. I can tune my guitar better than any store bought tuner on the planet! I'd like to add very briefly that one should never make fun of a person who has a hearing problem (or any other kind of problem)....my older brother and sister used to tease me all the time and it had a damaging effect on my self-esteem very early in my life. It has taken me years to get that back.....so be kind to the less fortunate :) OK, enough blubbering, I'm going to go out tonight and have a few beers with my friends to celebrate the 33rd year.......be good everybody......you are all my friends :) You too Joe :) Oh and yes, NonSmoker is still nonsmoking

HiGain, yeah the JS-10th is $2850.00 American.....wow, I can't believe the value of a US dollar in Australia (did I spell that right?) If I ever get rich I'm moving down there...lol

Michelle, thank you for your concern :) Fortunately, I did'nt have to drive that night. And I might add that the night ended very quickly for me. I don't drink much any more, and I found out that 3 shots of tequila is definately my limit....lol. Of course the 14 bud lights I had helped it along. All that fun and no hangover the next day, how lucky can you get :) Thanks again........Dave

Yes, I like the sound of "an evening with" tour for early winter :)

Joe, I hope you consider Minneapolis as a possible stop. Just make sure that your tour bus driver does'nt take the wrong exit and drop you at one of the local polka fesivals...ha ha!

I enjoyed the chat thing you had going on today. It was way too short though (just jealous my question didnt get answered).....lol

Kda, EOC is "perfect for anything" music.....heh heh

Hey everyone!! I have to respond to the Hendrix comments...

First of all, Jimi was without a doubt the sole reason I started playing guitar....and a tremendous amount of my playing style was influenced by him. Of course I hear others in my playing too....David Gilmour, Jerry Garcia, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, SRV...and most recently, Joe!

Jimi was the best guitar player of his time, he certainly is'nt the best now because he's dead. I never thought of him as the absolute best, just unique...he was the pioneer of heavy rock music (everybody knows that).

I think that when they are rating these players (top 20 or whatever), they are judging them by how influencial they were to future musicians.....and Jimi has everyone beat up to this point...
