Ovation.....you're right about how easy it is to spot mistakes when there is only three guys on stage. There is lots of room for expression but it also puts pressure on the guitarist to be damn near perfect. Tornado Alley has it's first gig this weekend and we've invited a keyboard player friend to play (and possibly try out) with the band. Honestly I'm not "cocky" enough to be one third of the sound, so we're going to see how he fits in. His one and only problem is that his wife is a bitch and she does'nt let him off his leash often enough to come to regular practices. I guess we'll see....

Do any other active guitar players in here beat the piss out of their guitar picks? I noticed at last weekends gig that halfway through the night, my (brand new) pick was worn nearly to half it's original size. I think I'm being a bit rough in the picking department.

Also...does anyone know offhand if the song "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood is a guitar tuned to open G (D-G-D-G-B-D)...or is it tuned to G (G-B-D-G-D-G) ? Or am I completely wrong about both !!

death cube k....I love that Limited Edition San Dimas model...I have a serious weakness for flame maple/ cherry-burst finishes. If I was wealthy I would own way too many guitars...lol...thanks for the link ! I think the only downside to those guitars is the lack of a neck humbucker...I guess I'd have to try one and see what the big deal is...

jelly man....my friend and I were watching the G3 / Denver DVD a while back. And after watching Vai's set my buddy declared that Joe had nothing on Steve....so I had to explain to him that Steve was'nt neccesarily better, he just has a more technical approach to the guitar. Whereas Joe has more of a bluesy style. I know it's entirely possible for the student to surpass the teacher, but I'm sure Joe would'nt have any problem doing what Steve does....he just chooses not to......In fact, I've found that after watching Steve rip up the guitar...it's a little easier to follow what Joe is doing because of his bluesy approach. So instead of being humbled by Vai's genius..I've learned mountains of stuff from Joe...lol !

Austin.....you won't be attending the Greek Theatre gig? I thought for sure you would be going....I was kind of looking forward to one of your reviews.....oh well.

I guess I don't care about seeing the other bands...I'd rather spend my $$$ seeing more play time from Joe !

Anyone else going? Post a review or the set list please ;)

Cube....I like that Jeff Beck cover you did....very, very well done dude ! Which guitar and what sort of effects did you use for that song?

It's nice to have broadband...now I can actually listen to everyone's music on here....I could'nt seem to get anywhere with that crappy dail-up connection.

Here's a good one guys......I recently informed our band (Sundown) that I was leaving for personal reasons...I want to spend more weekends with my kids...anyways, they've been auditioning a few guys to fill my spot (which is very very hard to do...lol) Last night at our gig one of these guys showed up and pulled out a damn near brand new JS-2000.....they are definately more beautiful in person...no photo can do it any justice let me tell you ! Unfortunately our keyboard player is forever stuck in the 1950's (which is part of the reason I'm splitting) and the poor guy was fired before he was hired. The funny thing is that this guy thought he had a JS-1000....I kept telling him that they only started making the 2000 a few years ago...but he kept saying that his guitar was made in 1990..LMAO...so I finally convinced him he was wrong but that he still got a good deal on it..I think he said he paid $750 for it. He was a great player but did'nt fit in with the theme of the band.....later peeps....D@ve

Edit : What a f*&^%in' tone machine that 2000 was.....

If I were financing my son's college education...I would be a little upset if I knew he was proof-reading every single post that comes through here...time could be better spent getting a life.

JS JS......wireless systems are more aggravation then they're worth....and if you run too far away from the stage you won't be in sync with the band anymore because there will be a delay in sound travel......batteries are expensive and they eat them like candy.....just put your drink on the floor next to your amp and you won't get electrocuted. Besides....how many of your favorite guitarists actually use a wirless system? There IS a reason why they don't...because wireless sucks! Peace, D@ve

Wow !! Quite a few responses to my last post...lol....In all honesty...I've never owned a wireless system, but I know from past observation that they can be very frustrating...a friend of mine bought one of those cheap Nady models and it sounded horseshit...so maybe if a person was willing to buy one of those expensive versions...they might have less troubles. I don't see any advantage to using one personally, but hey....whatever floats your boat right?

Austin....it sounds like the singer for the River City Rebels is lucky he did'nt get his ass kicked.......if he had spit on me , he'd be getting something re-attached at the hospital !

Words of wisdom.......if you know your band sucks...and the crowd does too.....get off the stage quickly...lol !
