Ok Gang...

Although it's been a long time since I ever performed on a stage or live for that matter, and now that the Axe of my dreams is finally in my hands...

This is for all you Floyd Rose type bridge nuts!!

If you ever break a string in the middle of the most awsome solo (in your eyes and ears anyway), you are pretty much FUCKED aren't you? I know most of us don't have a budget to afford a pack of strings everytime you step onto the stage... But just recently by accident I found out something that some of you might already know... some might not

ok 1st of all, when I tune my guitar especially with a Floyd type bridge, it's got to be absolutely perfect... before I tighten down the locking nut, it's got to be almost in perfect tune (but not quite), once I tighten down the locking nut, that's when I adjust the fine tuners ever so slightly but to be sure that I don't have to adjust them that much...

Now today I'm blistering away & playing along with my favourite Journey tune "Who's Crying Now" (Live version, more intense when live)

I broke a string... it happened to be the B string, fine and dandy! but I was still hyped to play and continued on playing and to my amazement it was still in tune. Impossible? Right? As I finished the ending solo to the most awsome Journey tune, I had looked down and realized that I was playing a half step lower scale which would naturally be the Ab Minor scale but because of the string breaking it automatically moved everything 1 fret backward... strange....

I have a question!! if every string has a different tension, and guage, and take into account all the variables I had just mentioned, would the same thing happen with the High E, The G, The D, The A, or The Low E?

take into account 7 strings in that case?

try it guys! see what happens!!!

Js Clone 1, Dave "Phrygdom"!!, Sharif and all who took part in answering that situation for me... thanks for your views on it!

Alexandre!!! Hey Dude!! If the world were a smaller place to live!! I'd love to Jam with you side by side... it would be a treat!

I know it's been rather concerning to be a Canadian in the last 6 months... Canada is finally contributing in the war effort in Iraq, as far as I know, the "SARS Scare" is finished, the Mad Cow disease scare turned out to be a one time situation and no other occurances have followed yet exept for that one cow that had it in Alberta... you can relax people of the world, I'm pretty sure Canadian Beef is safe to eat... good quality AAA Grade stuff here, only the best... The West Nile Virus through transmission of Mosquitos is easy to prevent... Use bug repelent with DEET and you're fine! or do what some people do... you can buy a "Bat Box" and at night time the Bat's that find sanctuary in the Bat Box will feed on the insects in your area... or you can purchase a Propane powered "Bug Magnet" that turns propane fuel into Carbon Dioxide that attracts all kinds of "Biting Insects" We're working on it gang... Canada is a safe place to be!

Yeah Michelle & Matt... I'm pretty sure I started posting here in late 97... and all I know is that you were here before me... I think anyway... ever since Satch had started putting the www.satriani.com thing on his CDs to let his fans know that he has a website... thats when I've been coming and going since it's creation.

Alexandre! I'm glad you liked the comments! I've also added you onto my MSN Messenger. one day when we finally log on around the same time, I'll be able to send you the mp3 of the acoustic track that I did... I was thinking of a duet or something... Harmonize with one another... it's a simple rhythm track sort of, one with alot of changes, but hey, should be pretty easy to get the hang of it! I also had this Harder Rhythm track(with drums) as well that I have worked on... maybe you'd like to hear that as well! and see what you could come up with!

Peace! Barrie!

Js Clone 1! Yep, 2 Jack Russells now... Rudy is nearly 2 years old coming up soon, and we now have his younger brother from a 2nd litter from the same mother & father.... He's nearly a year younger than Rudy but actually 51 weeks younger! His name is Finnigan! they have a sister as well & her name is Casey...

Matt King!!! I listened to your tune man... pretty good... if you got the whole band involved you could come up with some really cool music there!! I love that soft Rhythm to make up an emotional lead! it's cool... and the chicks dig it too!! hee hee!

Alexandre!! I'm on Messenger as we speak... I guess it's pretty late in Portugal at the moment... if I had only got on earlier! Here in Canada it's nearly 9:00pm and the sun is still shining here.. he he but that's nothing...farther north in the Arctic Circle they never get Dark at this time of year, 6 months of daylight... it backfires for them in the winter though... 6 months of Darkness... up that far north you have to take the good with the bad!! he he!

Miguel Pais!!

That Satch Backing site is amazing... I have finally found a backing to Clouds Race Across The Sky! and a decent one of Echo! can't wait to record them!

It needed a little Mastering & Balancing, but now it's a dead ringer for the original Satch versions! I illiminated the bass a bit and boosted the snare and cymbals as well... beautiful job whoever had the patience to do so... he he!

Alexandre!! it's nearly 5:30pm here in Eastern Canada at the moment, so that means it's 10:30pm in Portugal, you're probably just getting ready for bed and all that great stuff...he he... I'm on Holidays next week from work so I should be on MSN alot more as well as ICQ!

Yep 2 Jack Russells! April Loves "The Little Shits" and so do I... he he

They keep us occupied! but in this hot weather it's hard for us to take them for a walk or anything right now because it's not good to walk them in Humid weather! The little buggers will overheat!!

Alexandre!! I sent you an email what I've decided for this mutual song project! download and listen to them 1st and the decide if it's something you want to do... I have a feeling you'll take the rockin tune over the soft one!

Ok Gang... there seems to be an ongoing debate about how a guitar player should sound...

#1 - You should definetly try to find your own tones so that you may be able to develep your own style & sound...

#2 - Don't be affraid if you sound like another player or your idol... this way I think people can quickly pick up as you play, who your influences are or were... This way people can easily relate to what you are playing...

#3 - If you do sound like a player, maybe take on another influence or two and adopt some of those other players' strong points and add it to your own style, then combine the 2 or 3 or 4(whatever the case maybe) ... this way it adds versatility to your playing and then this way people will have even more respect... there's lots of different styles out there other than shred metal and hard rock... try the different styles of Blues out there... Country Chicken Pickin... Fingerstyle, Jazz...

#4 - Write different compositions in the many different styles out there on how to play the guitar... this way people will never get boored listening to your stuff...

Just a point of view gang... but I have faith it's logical!!!

Peace... Barrie!!

OME!! Chris!! hey man!!

Thanks for liking it (Starry Night)... Yeah, I never usually like to copy note for note... The way I see it for example... Did S.R.V. copy note for note his perception of Little Wing Note for Note? How about Voodoo Chile? nope... it's basically the same, but the way I see it there's many notes you can play to make a song sound correct... S.R.V. played what he felt was right in each tune of J.H.'s and you still know what song it was but in S.R.V.'s Big Ass Thick Tone!!

I record direct to my Soundblaster PCI 128 with a guitar cable hooked to my Line 6 Spider 212... to patch the different connections I just used stereo Earphone Attachment Adaptors (Big To Small) to my Soundcard & on the opposite end I used (Big To Small then from Small to Big to prevent shorting out the amp, beleive me it will... It happened to my little dinky RockTek)... The guitar cord sticks out about 4 inches away from the earphone pluggin to my amp, but it all works great... The Effects I used were The Line 6 Spider's "Insane amp model" setting with the Distortion turned down about half way with a little tiny touch of Tape Echo, & Reverb!

Thanks again to Miguel Pais for sending that link to the T2J Community about those great backing tracks to some of Joe's most amazing tunes...

I've just completed a version of "Clouds Race Across The Sky" with the help of one of those great backing tracks... I mixed it and mastered it the best I could and it sounds really sweet..

This is as close to Joe as I could sound in this one... but I'm not Joe, and it's more of what I knew of the tune than anything, there's a few different "Made Up as I Went" parts in it, but it all fits too... Hope you enjoy and hopefully once some of you read this It will be uploaded to my IUMA in my "Cover Tunes" section!!

2 Warnings though... #1 earphones don't do it justice... So take those silly things off your ears in the wee hours of the morning and CRANK THE FOTHER MUCKER!!! #2. it's about 7.25mb, so it might take awhile for some to download...

Hope you all enjoy... I'm kinda proud of this one...

Alexandre & SuperDave!! if you didn't already find Miguel's post here are 2 real good sites for Joe's Backing Tracks... Either Midi or Mp3!!!

http://www.ylor11.freeserve.co.uk/

click on the left hand side bar where it says SATCH...

http://guitarplanet.free.fr/

just scroll down... right click on the little speaker sillouettes and save target as... you know the drill. :)

And I'm still having problems with the upload of my take on Clouds Race Across The Sky... IUMA must be having problems... I re-encoded it, but it still shows the file as being 0 MB on my IUMA... strange...
