back to that grinding wheel tommorow though...

the wheather was good up until yesterday morning.. we had Rain for the past few days until yesterday when the temperature must have dropped 15 degrees... bitter cold at the moment.. but not a whole lot of snow... I guess that's ok...

Matt... the Boss DS-1 to many guitarists is the most reliable Distortion pedal around along with the Ibanez/Maxon Tube Screamer... the tone of those 2 pedals are just like butter... and they are very easy to dial in for tone wise... easy to control and from a clean sound to a distortion sound it's not so overkill a transaction between the two... the Boss DS-1 is fairly cheap to replace as well which is another added bonus... now alot of vintage buffs are always seeking the Japanese models which are hard to come by and you pay alot more for them but in the end I've never been spoiled by an original Japanese DS-1 so oh well...

I have played Joe's amp in store and they let me rip into it a bit and mess with the controls and I will agree the Crunch channel and the Ultra Lead are great just as much as the clean...

but the rule of thumb is to get a true tone out of a pedal even a delay or chorus you must have a purely clean channel to appreciate the proper tone of the pedal... especially the DS-1...

Yep, the DS-1 and the Tubescreamer are great... I have the DS-1 but I also have plug ins for both of them in my "Line 6 Guitar Port" if you wanna hear how realistic these plug ins are... Go to my soundclick site and listen to my instrumental of an Eagles classic of "I Can't Tell You Why", I do have a rendition of "Is There Love In Space?" on there as well... not bad for shits and giggles...hehe

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pageartist.cfm?bandID=116529

some harmonious feedback would be great too on my message board...

People ask me how I achieve my tone all the time and I tell them "Line 6 GuitarPort"...LOL

oh and my Fender American Strat... nuff said...

back to work I go... out in the cold hard world... :(

DC thanks for the kind words...

I've been playing for quite awhile, I actually started when I was 8 or 9 but stopped a few times in between, I'm 34 in March so off and on who really knows how long, I'm kind of a mutt at it... I just have never had the opportunity nor the chance to play in any huge bands that actually had a chance at something until now, that tune was actually a painstaking process...

pretty much all of the background music was performed by my good friend Brian Taylor, an excellent songwriter in his own right, I consider myself very fortunate to be playing with him, he's had his songs played on the radio and ranked quite high in some radio contests as well which they had to perform to a few thousand people, unfortunately that's before I joined up with him... he wishes I was part of all that but since we're starting out from scratch and working on getting the right members on board it's yet another painstaking process...

Brian is multi-talented, he plays a mean rhythm guitar, with tight keys, and all that funky bass playing you hear was him as well... heck I'm just a dum lead guitar player... hehe... I make the thing hum and buzz and it sorta sounds like music...hehe

Yeah Joe...

I've always liked your music videos, I know it costs a bundle to make something that might not regularily be viewed on MTV or Much Music whatever other music tv station will show, but it's fun to see you impliment a mood into your songs with vids...

I can tell you I remember a vid not a whole lot of people have seen... Years ago when I was watching MuchMusic you were promoting your Time Machine CD and you had a vid of "All Alone...

You were in a beat up old appartment or hotel playing away on a Tele-style Ibanez, you hadn't shaven in days lettin er rip, and you got the girl a couple of doors down all hot and bothered...LOL

she even gave you a call... Are you the guy with the guitar??

You know my neighbour said that to me once too, problem was she was about 20 years older than me and looked like she'd been run over by a dump truck dressed in a bright orange Moo Moo...

hehe

Loved It.... great vid...

OVATION!!! my favourite Acoustic by the way!!

yeah man... it was cool I think I was trying to get Joe's attention about that a few times.... I wish it was legally possible for his fans to view each vid, but that would take away from buying The Satch Tapes or any other vid...

I wish he would release his "Reel Satriani" tape on DVD one day... it basically cronicles the 1995 Joe Satriani sessions for Cool#9 and most importantly what a creative process is like for a song... namely "Luminous Flesh Giants"

I know Joe doesn't mind the odd bootleg of his material too much, but I guess the vids are a different matter...

It was a cool vid too... Joe is an old appartment or a rusty old hotel or something like that, jammin out the tune with an amp, and this custom Tele-style Ibanez wailing away on it and this hot gal is awaken by the music a couple of rooms away, and gets all Hot and Bothered and at the end of the vid gives Joe a phone call and ask him if he was the guy with the guitar...

I always thought that was a great way to pick up babes, but that could be a double edge sword too, cuz even the not so hot ones get all hot and bothered too... like what happened to me a few times, on stage and one day taking the dogs out after jammin with some Cds... long story... we'll let your imagination run wild...LOL

Hey Chad... yep raining here in Orillia too...

Yep, my buddy's "stude" is in Barrie, I'm in Barrie every weekend jammin with them... still working out the kinks... we're always stressed out because we can never find a Bass player with all of his marbles in place... always something wrong... either they're very talented but are drunk all the time or have a crappy attitude, or they have a great attitude but can barely stick with the beat and fumble notes... so in recordings the Bass playing falls on me or my buddy...

what do you do... us guys are all 30 somethings and can't find anyone in it for the music, they always tie Alcohol or Drugs or plain stupidity in with it all...

ah well... it'll come together one way or another... I've been trying to tell my buddy that he's the best Bass Player he's going to find, I've been trying to tell him to do it like Geddy Lee, and play Keys and Bass...

ah well... it's Sunday... I might as well enjoy what's left of the weekend...

Chad Hadley Buddy... chances are that you went to Music Pro either downtown Barrie on Dunlop St. or the Music Pro down at the South End store and or Gilbert Guitars on Bayfield Ave.

unfortunately, they are major rip off artists... it's the only way they can make any money... Canadian companies have to jack up the prices to even remotely make a profit on Goods and services... Canadians in General and on average are the "Richest Poor People" in the world...hehe

Blame the New Prime Minister's party nearly 20 years or so ago for that one when Brian Mulroney was in power... GST!!!

now companies have to jack prices a little more so they make a profit because of the extra taxes, when it went from 7% to 15% combined PST and GST

It's even worse for Fuel prices... I get a kick out of the US complaining that it's 2 bucks a gallon or so for Gas... not sure the current prices down there

when all they really have to do is convert Canadian Litres to gallons and realize that 90 plus cents a litre is nearly double what the us pays for one gallon. or so I've been told anyways...

Hey Chad... glad to hear you're doing ok.. Gilbert Guitars used to be a good place to shop too back in the day, I've bought quite a bit off of them over the years, My Line 6 Spider amp, my Fender Blues Jr. which wasn't really a bad price $650.00 Canadian... it really is worth every penny for what I paid for it... and chances are I might end up buying something else from them one day but that doesn't mean that their prices are any good over all...

Music Pro I've bought stuff off of as well... my Yamaha GW10 guitar effect processor, a couple of guitar cases.. some guitar parts etc. etc. I've dealt with them so much they know me by name, Barrie the guitar builder... I used to jam once in awhile with the owner's sons at some point in between as well... They sell the Peavey JSX in both configs and I was considering trading both my Line 6 Spider and my Fender Blues Jr for the Peavey amp either in head and cab mode or combo.. I haven't decided on that yet...

anyways... another rough day at work... a sad reality of things to come...

might not be buying anything anytime soon...

chad buddy!!!

it's near the old Eaton's Center... a really old building actually... nearly there since the turn of the 1900s and it was originally for theatres and operas...

I've seen Joe there twice... once on his own, nearly a 3 hour show... and once in G3 with himself, vai, and petrucci... the best show I saw joe at was a place called the wherehouse... jet black painted walls later named The Guvernment, and I was so close to Joe that time I could pretty much spit shine his shoes...hehe

Joe pretty much shaved his head right around then, so it was really fresh, like I say Jet black walls in that place and it was so dark when the lights were out, until this eerie green neon light emitted around the bar and then you see a larger than life figure on stage... he's got his hair slicked back, possibly in a pony tail... but wait.... no.. it can't be.... HE'S F$%&NING BALD... AND IT WAS GREAT!!!!

Later

awsome show...

Wanna hear a some what funny story Joe? other than the other one I just told... woke up from a nightmare for good reason 3:30am here...

I went into Music Pro yesterday(Friday) in Barrie On, Can... tried out your JSX Combo $1800.00 and change, which is a nightmare in itself... I'll have to trade a few things in for that... but here's the real nightmare... the guys in there, trust me with pretty much anything in there... so they don't think twice about giving me an axe with some value... and they really wanted me to try the amp, so they gave me a guitar of equal value.. the replacement to Eddie's Wolfgangs, whatever it's called.. 1800.00 and change as well... I said to them that if I'm really gonna dig in, I gotta play a guitar with a strap on standing up.. that's the only way, not some bar stool, that's for acoustics... I wanted to stand and lean into it... on the high gain input... by this point, I'm already to let it rip....I DROPPED IT ON THE FLOOR

nearly had a heartattack after that... well the strap gave out... there were no strap locks...

talk about nightmares...

it ain't $1800.00 anymore... LOL

the fact that I'm typing this right now means I'm loosing sleep... the back of the guitar is fubared... the rounded edge of the backside was cracked and pealing paint the black back... it was a nice guitar too.. push pull pots, original floyd with the D-Tuna... LOADED! the guitar tech is gonna strip the back and repair it.. they didn't even blame me for it.. they should never have given me the strap, it was against company policy to do so because of that very reason, but the owner who I'm pretty good aquaintances with, said it was ok...

after the fact they still let me pick up another and still let me try it out...LOL

I gotta buy the JSX combo now... just out of respect to the owner alone... so in the next couple of weeks I will be trading in the Line 6 Spider and my Fender Blues Jr cuz I just love the sound of that JSX so much... all the gadgets... and all analog...

it's just an amazing amp... I choose the combp amp because of the added Reverb option...

peace bear

yeah it really happened... still been tossing and turning... its 9:15am now so that's all the sleep I can get with the sunlight in my room... ah well...

I have to buy that JSX amp now just to save face...

Satriella!!! thanks... everything is fine believe it or not... me and the owner had a real big laugh about it outback of the store... they have 5 more identical guitars ready to take it's place but it's repairable.. only cosmetic damage... at least I hope... I was really affraid to look at it, after it happened...

I'm still going through life hitting nothing but red lights here and there, and even pot holes for that matter LOL... anyone else?

but hey I start a new job tommorow... I guess that's ok...

Satriella!!!

Yep, life can be one crazy traffic jam...

or what we Canadians call the "Don Valley Parking Lot" well, it's actually called the Don Valley Parkway, it's a highway in Toronto... but it's like a parking lot... cuz very little brains goes into driving in the big city... everyone has to drive and the cars exceed the size of the highway... so there are daily traffic jams because of it... it's funny really... cuz everyone is going nowhere fast but still continue to conjest the stretch of traffic lanes...

aw well...

at least I didn't have to pay for it... problem is I'm pretty much obligated to buy the Peavey JSX off of them now...

anyways, it's getting late, and I start my new job tommorow... evening shifts, not bad really, because it's floor cleaning and whatnot and it's peaceful when no one else is around but me and the floor machines...

wish me luck gang... I can't see anything worse going wrong, but nontheless, the way things have been going lately I'm gonna desperately need some good luck...

Wow Joe... the only other album I'm probably going to buy other than your new one in the next little while, is David Gilmour's latest effort.. "On An Island"...

that stuff sounds great... anyone else heard David's new stuff on the radio?? with Backing vocals from David Crosby, and Graham Nash as well... sounds so much like Floyd when I 1st heard this tune, I thought it was from the 70s for sure...
