Who are The Flaming Lips anyway?

Ah Geez Joe... I thought for sure you'd pull this one off... but nope, and even a new President of the Grammy's too...

But!!! one cool thing I noticed was that "Starry Night" was being played in the background during the announciation of some other artists that were presented their awards earlier in the evening... at lease they consider your music playable enough to announce some awards... they sure didn't play The Flaming Lips... not that I know of anyway...

I demand a recount!! everyone working for the Grammys is on cheap ass drugs...

Peace....Barrie

Ah man this sucks... I'm actually shedding tears over this damn Grammy thing... it upsets me so much for people especially in the profession that decide who is talented and who is a great song writer etc. to be nominated & awarded a Grammy.... fine! some of their choices are better than others, then the "Best Rock Instrumental Song" catagory comes along and they pick someone with a funny name that quite frankly no one has ever heard of.... But I truely think that these people have no clue... they just don't seem to get it...

Do they actually listen to these songs?

Starry Night is such a beautiful song, I think it has such a perfect melody... it just saddens me so much to see something so beautiful to go unnoticed by a bunch of old, crotchity, rich ass, grumps - being payed too much money to truely take notice of such a worthy song...

It's absolutely sick!

Sorry Joe! It's just how a feel right now...

I can't bring myself to pick up the guitar right now... I have so much anger built up inside that music right now is a turn off... I haven't listened to the radio, cds, mp3s... Video Game music has been turned off only to hear the blood curdling screams of people I frag.. etc...

The Grammys are a joke...

It still irritates me to see Joe not winning that Grammy. I guess I'm having a hard time dealing with it...

To me it's like someone with no talent at all telling a person who is extremely gifted that they stink or something like that...

Rejecting someone who deserves it, and when they reject Joe in that way it feels like they are rejecting his fans as well... I have listened to the Flaming Lips tune a few times, it's not a bad song, but I feel it's missing the same level of talent that Joe is capable of... especially in "Starry Night"

I'm sorry Joe... I know you disagree with all this negativity but I've said it before... as much as it would be nice to win a Grammy for a song that is so beautiful such as Starry Night or Until We Say Goodbye, or Always With Me, Always with you... maybe it's the wrong approach unfortunately!? If MindStorm was nominated with it's shear speed, brilliance and technical diversity... I know for a fact that the rest of these songs in the Best Rock Instrumental Catagory would have been put to shame... Mindstorm is brilliant... that's all I have to say...

next post please.... Peace.... Barrie

Thanks for the pep talk gang...

yeah...

I know I go off half cocked sometimes & stuff...

I gotta rant somewhere...

Can't do it at work in a loud earpearcing woodshop at my table saw, I'm liable to cut some digits off and then there you have it... the music carreer that never started to begin with will never have a chance regardless, either way!

I just wish things that pretty much have nothing to do with me go smoothly too... Joe winning a Grammy, World Peace... etc... you get the idea... it's just a selfless wish, that's all...

Yeah Rich, I'll do something for the TTJ CD...

I wasn't sure if anyone was interested in having any of my tunes on there!?

But Clarky & yourself have mentioned it... so I guess I will...

When's the due date on this TTJ CD?

I might be able to mess around with some ideas tonight between 24 & Smallville tonight... but I can't miss those 2 shows... Christopher Reeve is on Smallville tonight... shall be interesting...

& 24, I just like checking out Elisha Cuthbert & what she's wearing for the evening... hee hee

Trutina!!

Hey, it sounds as if this CD might be a double disc the way things are going... need a spare drum track? its a free bee...

If some one is having a hard time coming up with a drum track, try Fruity Loops, I use that sometimes,

But what I normally do is plug the earphone input of my Keyboard to the Mic input of my sound card and record it direct... I then mess around with different programable Rhythms & Styles.... this is the same way I record my guitar through as well... Mess with your recording levels... if you think it's too sensitive you may have to shut your "Mic Booster" off through your soundcard options..... by doing this the Mic is then not so sensitive to volume levels and you can operate the Mic volume on your sound card much easier!

For those of you who have a full piece band like Mr. Matt King... & record all the time in a music studio well then. nevermind. he he

Trutina! I had an idea on the tile of the T2J CD....

Instead of Talking Back, how about "Feedback"

It's cool... it has meaning that we are "feeding back" to Joe our ideas...

and I'm sure some "Guitar & Amp FeedBack" kinda relates as well... he he

Peace....Barrie

TechTy!!!

Cool...

A Fender Acousti-caster... so does this mean you'll be doing an acoustic tune for the T2J CD? yeah guys... just because this is a Guitar CD, don't be intimidated into doing all electric tunes... I've been thinking of doing a combination of Acoustic Rhythms & Electric Leads... The combination seems to work in my favour, if I could only get a perfect Acoustic tone recorded with my Fender 12 string... It's hard to do with a PCI 128...

I'll say it again!!!

The T2J CD should be named "FEEDBACK"

Peace.....Barrie

yes... I did try Every Breath You Take and it is hard but apparently there's a way to play it on an open tuning of some sort, and it'll sound exactly the same...

2 Ton Tessie! I completely agree with ya about the theory crap... some of the best musicians don't even consider theory when they're writing... the just play what they feel is right and go from there... Eddie Van Halen once said "If sounds good, it is good" he was actually refering to recording techniques and how much of that has changed since his early days... but I think it applies here as well, don't worry about the theory stuff... unless you are classically trained and write scores for symphonies & orchestras... don't kid yourself with that theory stuff...

Rock don't need...

here's what Rock needs... #1. turn amp on #2. Play

Joe! I read your thing on CNN-dot-COM

I feel I'm responsible for your 13th loss of a Grammy... The number 13 has followed me around all my life... Everywhere I turn there it is... I was born on the 13th of March on the 13th hour! my house address is lucky number 13... and to find that this was your 13th Grammy nomination... you can take comfort in holding me responsible... I'm now ready to be bombarded with fruit & vegetables to the head....

right cheek 1st pleaze....

oh!! & more thing Joe... I'm sure there would be alot of Rock Singers ready to step up to the plate to sing for any of your tunes... I mean... hey... you can come up with musical end of it, and the singers can come up with whatever they want to yell about (he he)... you're all about the music... definetely not the words... don't worry... you wouldn't be selling out your crowd.. just taking a break from usual thing so that when you go back to straight instrumentals, the fans would be even more hyped into what your next record after that would be... I think it's a smart thing to do... and I think it helps your career too, the whole world could know who Joe Satriani is...

Still working on my tune for the CD as well... it'll be mellow... soft with a mixture of guitar tones... acoustic rhythm with electric rhythm & a soft mellow emotional lead...

didn't do any playing today... got wrapped up in a video game & oops... ran out of time to record...

"Dead tired" anyway.... someone kick some dirt over me....

Peace....Barrie.
