Joe Satriani - you are my greatest inspiration and thanks to you Im gonna get far with guitar!

If you read this though I have 3 questions that are making my mind bogle - maybe someone else can help also ?

in flying in a blue dream how is it possbile to get such sutain and manage that feedback? I can get it to last about 2 seconds then it dies off! how is this possible?

Using the boss ds-1 I can't achieve any type of sound as yours - is it going through a clean or overdriven channel on the amp

and when you do thaose crazy harmonic things with the wammy - why is the left hand brought down to control the wammy instead of using the right?

there mustbe some logical answers to the above and Id appreciate anyones help!

Thanks for the music Joe!

further to my last post Im wondering if anyone can tell me where I can find out how joe actually plays flying in ablue dream. Its withing the first approx 16 bars when the faster guitar kicks in. I have 2 different tap books which say different things and when slowing done the actual song it sounds different to both of those tabs.

Can anyone play this that can advise ? as its driving me crazy!! I have been working on this 10 second passage for well over a year now

aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggghhhhh!!!!

Cheers for your help

thanks again mr nick but unfortunetely I have already done that. I have tried many programs but as soon as you reduce the speed you lose the clarity and the sounds fuse together making it impossible to pick out the notes on flying in ablue dream. I use this type of software for othersongs but not this one!!

cheers for the help though!! and if there is anyone out there that can help me with this song it would be apprecited

well h302 I''ll think about that one but not sure if its gonna solve my problem!!in fact I think at the present moment I had a better sound throught the distortion of my solid state amp than through the ds-1 into the marshall!!

Ill keep your offer in mind (honest!!)

trutina - thanks for answering - I run the Ibanez RG3120 into a cry baby wah into a boss cs-3 (compression/sustainer) into a NS-2 (noise suppressor) with the DS-1 in the loop of the NS-2 then into the amp. in the loop I have boss delay and chorus.

the overdrive on the amp is great but the ds-1 through the clean seems almost useless with very little sustain and no balls?

thanks

sweep pick - I get that all the time. you get stuck in a rut and your world colapses. fear not though i find that learning a new piece of music can help get out of the rut. It takes a couple of dayspractice then after that you start to get inspiration again - hope this helps

cheers crispin - i''ll try that - try ebay for the pedal - having ssaid that i do keep an eye out myself as I want one but they do come and go at good prices! otherwise try www.guitar-mania.com for a rough price - I would personally not go for a signiture model due to the extra money or lesser quality product just for the name thats attatched if you get what i mean

trutina - thanks again. do you think then that everything other than the cs-3 and ds-1 should go onto the effects loop?

anyone here know either of the following?

- the beginning part of the fast guitar on flying in a blue dream?

- why satch uses his left hand for the wammy on those crazy harmonics?

- how I can get rid of some of the buzz whilst using a power supply for my pedals?

thanks ethn but what I dont understand about the left hand thing is if he has done a pinch harmonic on 1or 2 strings assumably on the open then surely as soon as he administers the harmonic his right hand is free to move the wammy?

also with flying in ablue dream - I have 2 tab books with 2 different versions. I have slowed down flying... and they are both incorrect and even slowed down it is too fast for me to hear.

What Ineed is someone who can advise me a way that they play which they know is right!

cheers

Hi Joe and everyone!

Just thought Id let everyone know, following my posts yesterday, that last night I sorted out the hum I was getting on my pedals fom using my power supplies. I have no idea why this has worked so if anyone can explain it would be appreciated!

I have now got my setup in this order

Ibanez RG3120 => Crybaby Wah => noise suppressor (ns-2) then via the send and return ports on the NS-2 I have my Copression/Sustainer (Cs-3) => Distortion (DS-1) then the outour of the NS-2 into my marshall head and 4x12 cab. The effects loop of the amp is chorus (CE-5) and delay (dd-3)

Why this has worked I don not know. Ido not even understand the send and return pots on the ns-2 but someone suggested i try it!

Any other order - ie the NS-2 at the end of the chain - I still get a nasty hum,

Hope this may help someone out there

Hi aaerren - thansk a lot for responding. With the order of my pedals as put in my last post I have no hum. As long as this isnt causing any harm Im completely happy with it.

I just dont really understand what the send and return does on the NS-2 all I know is that the noise that has been bugging me for ages has gone away!!

Thanks again!

yes my sound is good. since doing this I have managed to turn the noise suppressor down as before it was cutting of a portion of my sustian. now I can turn the sutain on my ompressor right up with no additional noise and nothing lopped off the end of my sound. So looking at it like that I am absolutely delighted!! I can now even have distortion through the overdrive section on the amp without additional noise!

the only thing to try and do now is get the DS-1 sounding good through the clean channel which I think is more of a mystery!

Cheers

costas_greece - you can get a multi adapter from soundLAB to power up to 8 pedals. I find that it gives a bit of hum though so I use a noise suppressor to help that. I have a very similar setup to you!
