i'm so pissed off with one of the tutors at the acm that i just walked out of his lesson..he told me to go..so i did. all because i didn't want to write down this scale shape.

and so i've sent the acm a complaint

Neil...i dont have FIABD cd here..so that interval you mentioned is kinda useless...

962..yeah he is a twat..he cant teach anyway..i can do a better job then him.

Neil..it was James Betteridge...a new guy...he's doing the degree course but yet he's teaching but doesn't go to the degree lessons but yet he's doing the exams...weird...he's an idiot. i think it was during term 2 that me and him got fed up with each other and i'll said i'll leave and he said dont. but now..over a stupid scale shape..he tells me to leave..it did happen whether you believe it or not, a bit like your signed vai london dvd eh? remember when i said i didn't belive you?..i'm pissed off with him...i told the acm that in an email. they haven't replied though....

Neil...i dont like scale shapes..they're useless apart from developing speed and accuracy in some ways..i only know the first shape of the 3 note per string major scale shapey things for the reason of helping developing speed and accuracy...for sololing..why not learn the notes your using in the key...know the notes on the neck and widdle away..knowing that the notes you pick work well with the chord..and not just saying..this is the scale shape..every note works...scale shapes are limiting. why not use between frets 0 and 24 (or however many you got) and use your heart and ear to help choose the notes and where you go...

and heres a story for everyone
once upon a time...
...in a land not so far away...there was this woman who went to the doctor complaining about a stomach ache. the doctor asked if she had eaten anything out of the ordinary. she replied "yeah, a fly". "hmm..." said the doctor.."better get some rest then". so she went home, and went to bed. foolishly she left her mouth open, a spider was tempted by the smell of rotting fly coming from her stomach. so the spider crawled in, followed by a bird, a cat, a dog, a vet and some police officers investiating the dissapearence of a couple of vets and a few animals. when the woman woke up, she was now about 40 stone and couldn't move. immediatly, she phoned the one person that can help - Jerry Springer and the Sun newspaper. this of course lead to the headline the following day of a 40 stone woman who had taken the nursey ryhme a bit too far (oh the irony there ;)) the goverment had to interveen at this point and said that a public inquiry would follow as soon all the facts were gathered. while this was all happening, the woman went onto Jerry Springer and attracted 6 million viewers (most of them from birmingham and liverpool). She went onto a fit farm thing on channel 4 but couldn't fit thru the door so she had to be carried in by articulated truck and lifted in by 3 cranes thru the roof. after 3 weeks there...while the public inquiry was still going...she had managed to reduce her weight by sheddding a couple of policeman and so can now fit through the door, but in a wheel barrow. After the public inquiry found that the fly was to blame, the policeman were sent back in to arrest the fly. Unfortunatly they never came back and the whole incident passed in another couple of days.

the end

wasn't that a lovely story??

clarky...this may sound a bit random in how this is written but its how my mind works i guess...i went to the acm to inprove my playing..dont know how i would go about that but i expected the acm to teach me that new way..and it hasn't. its just thrown the stuff i already knew at me...some things are new but not a great deal or shedding a new perspective on a thing or 2. thats ok..but i didn't see my playing improve...but i dont know how to improve...maybe its buried in my sub-conscioness from listening to vai, satch, petrucci, van halen that speed gets you famous...well..it helps but i know its not the only thing. i made a list of the things that make these people great such as timing, rythmn, song writing, mellody, note choice, a musical ear and maybe a few other things that i've missed. i just dont know where to go. when i saw the first book of the first term...i thought..i'm on the wrong course..i said to them that, tried to get on the higher one but didn't. so i said ok..i'll get thru this, put up wit it and hopefully things will improve later on in the course, well..they didn't and this is the result. i want to learn about music and develope my playing in my own way, not in a way that the acm thinks its right, it might be right for some people, but not for me. i get bored practising scales...i want to write songs, i do that, but at the moment i cant record, but once i get my owm computer and set my amp and stuff, i will start and then show you what i can do. ask some people what they think, where can i improve etc...at the moment..i dont know where to go. how can you improve if you dont know what to improve or how to do it? "practise things you dont know" - that makes no sense to me...how do you know what you dont know in order to practise?

clarky..."learn from examples"..well..when i listen to music..i think i may of told you this before...anyway...when i listen to music i dont just casually listen, i pick up the way the instruments interact..this doesn't come on first listen but over time after alot of listens, each time i listen to a song i sometimes discover something new or something that didn't relate to my song-writing at first but now does. i dont like learning alot of someone else's stuff...i do try to play bits of satch, dt, vai etc...just because its cool...and maybe work from that or something...and also if i learn all the guitar parts, its something away from listening to them for me. when this course is over and when i'm back home i will look at arppegios.

mowlie...yeah...maybe...but at the moment..its not really done anything..apart from some band experience which is very useful but i expected more.

footballs boring...

Rush are one cool band...the rush in rio cd kicks ass.

clarky...i already try to jam with a couple of satch songs...i dont get it right..but i know what key its in..and just play something similiar...maybe the lick will come to me as i listen more and my ear develops a bit more. songs like always, summer song, surfin' and flying (need to get that change to Ab lydian sorted out though). i do this cos its fun..gives me something to do...but its been a while since i've studied them songs in detail and actually learning the notes. i dont see how learning songs develops me as a player..i'd rather be original and spend my time writing my own stuff and developing my song writing. maybe i am lazy in some respects but i get bored easily doing stuff...maybe i have a short attention span.

clarky...but making something sound original is a challenge...i dont find "always with me" particular challenging...only in a few areas in the song...like the fast runs...if i work on them then i'll get it. but at the moment i dont really want to. i just bought the new guitar techniques magazine..thats got loads of rock, metal, jazz, blues and country licks in..and vai's boston rain melody fully tabbed. i wont be able to play it but i can look at it and learn from it...thats what i intend to do. same with the licks..theres probably no way i can play some of them upto full speed like the petrucci and gilbert licks..but i should be able to play them at slow speed and study them.
