Happy Birthday Joe! You must be having the best day of your life! New guitars, new amps, new CD... what else can you ask for? A new web site? Ha! You got it too! Joe is the best. It's a shame how the plans didn't work out for the tour to Hong Kong. I saw Steve Vai instead. Yes, I am from Hong Kong & I play guitar too. Anyone here lives in the area? One more thing, just to make all of you guys jealous, I'm only 4hrs by air away from Japan. So I get to buy the SBM with bonus tracks! Jam on, people!

Psycho Monkey/ Ovation1: I was on holiday in Japan just last week. Stayed in Tokyo for 3 days. Have you guys ever been to ESP Craft House in Shibuya?? It's totally awsome! It's got really funky guitars. Like 3D angels and stuff. Think of Steve Vai's weird guitar collection. They also make custom guitars for customers!

About sustain...Anyone seen the "Sustainer System"?? Looks like a Seymour Duncan hotrails but gives you lots more sustain. Downside is you need to fit a circuit into your guitar & all those wirings really confuse me.

There are all these cool things I wanna throw onto my strat. Pickups, new circuitry, pickguard, tuners, Floyd Rose... (the list goes on!) The cost of all those plus $200 actually equals a brand new Ibanez RG550EX 0r 570EX. I love the pickguard on the 550, but I also love the neck inlays on the 570. Geeez. Maybe if I pull a miracle, I can buy both & stick the 570 neck on the 550 body! Ha! (Reality check...)

Damn Straight: I think you got guitars & cell phones mixed up! Satch, Vai & Johnson etc. is known as G3, (guitarist three). Mobile phones are classified into 5 types. 1G, 2G, 2.5G, 3G & 4G. 1G are those 'water bottle' phones; 2G are those GSM phones; 2.5G are those CDMA phones; 3G are the new phones with superfast internet connections (quite popular in Japan) & 4G are still under design & testing. Mobile phones that are 3G refer to as being a third generation mobile phone.

I'm sure most of you guys know the tone difference of Fender & Marshall amps. U know, the clean top end of a Fender & the crunchy bottom end of the Marshall. Here's what I do to capture both of the good points of these amps. I split my signal after it comes out of my multi FX box. 1 into the Fender and the other into the Marshall. It takes some time to tweak the knobs of both amps to make sure they blend well. But the end result is fantastic!!

Gonna be performing this Saturday in Football Club. I'll be playing Always with me, Always with you. Maybe even Steve Vai's Blood'n Glory.

Yngwie Malmsteen... he's a very talented guy. Got all the techniques to shred. But he can also play beautifully slow. He tends to over do things a bit. Steve Vai yells at him for that.

Joe! Finally, post number two from Joe! I was so happy to see blue text, I almost started to cry...

Oh well, anyone notice Joe starts off with "Wow!!" on both of his posts? Now that Joe is relaxing at home, he can post more often and read all of our posts!

Gotta go! I'm gonna watch the JS DVD again!

Here's another "Did you know?" from me:

Putting the chrome on Chromeboy is not easy at all. First, the chrome needs to be melted and kept at melting point, any hotter and it will be just a 'zing' before the wood bursts into flames. Then the wood has to be coated with a layer of catalyst so the chrome goes on top of the wood instead of just sliding right off or burn little holes in the wood. The catalyst makes the chrome stick onto the wood in just a matter of seconds, so the wood can't be dipped in chrome more than 3 or so seconds.

The amount of metal added to a guitar also changes the tone a lot. The chrome tends to 'stiffen' the guitar a lot and makes it pretty 'hard' and 'solid'. It takes time for metal and wood to blend well.

Anyway, hope you found that interesting. That's it for today!

Oh dear, I think I've over done it this time. Due to my severe whammy bar usage/ bar torture... the tremolo on my strat is coming off!! T-T My strat has a vintage tremolo (the one with 6 screws that fixes it on the wood). Everytime I do a dive bomb or pull up, the screws loosen & the bridge rises about 1cm. So I have to keep tightening the screws but they just keep coming off! Help! Anyone with the same problem or can offer me some help??

Hi people! Thanx for the tips on how to fix my bridge. I know what to do now, its just that I'll be visiting Eastern Europe next week, so I'll have to wait till I come back from vacation to do anything on my guitar.

Non smoker: congrats.

Performing tonight at Football Club! weather looks bad...

Some facts about Joe's custom conford: 100W head, EL34 power valves, 'presence defeat' (to remove feedback loop), rotary power attenuator (15W-120W)

BTW, my favourite JS ax is Chrome Boy. It looks soooo coool.

Did you know:

Joe's 7-string has a vintage neck profile; oiled mahogany body; & pickups mounted straight onto the body.

I just found out that the G3DVD (1996) was recorded on my birthday! pretty neat.

Hmmm... should be about time, Joe. Yup. Time for a post.

Does anyone own a copy of the Guitarist #222?? It has 2 articles on Joe!! Pretty cool.

Anyone tried a metal pick? I use a home made brass pick. I tried an aluminium pick first. But the aluminium didn't last very long. Then I came across brass... the most durable, loudest, hardest, fastest pick I've ever used. But it's only good for certain playing styles. Pick scrapes sound very 'metallic', but it's a no-no when it comes to strumming on an acoustic. Other than that, it's great for power chords, speedy things, lead or solos. One of my fave picks.

The reason I use brass picks is so it wouldn't destroy my strings. The next strongest substance used on guitar strings is stainless steel. This way, the pick wears out and not the strings. Yup, that's the Fender's Stainless Bullets.

Ah... can't wait till tomorrow. Goin' gear shoppin' & tryin' some cool guitars (JS1000/2000) at the guitar shop!!

Joe once said that he likes to 'start off' on a white JS1000 after playing/ recording on Chromeboy & co. It makes him feel like he's starting on a new clean sheet. I think white guitars are really classy & sweet.

Joe... if you don't feel like posting... maybe a tour to Hong Kong would make up for it! Ha!

I saw the funniest pick in the world today at the guitar shop. I think it is by Pickboy. It's a furry thin pick! Yup!! Fur on both sides. Well, it's actually felt. I guess its purpose is to eliminate pick-to-string sound.

I also tried out quite a few guitars today. Ahhhh... just like having multiple org*sms for a guy.......!? Then amps... ah.... lastly effects pedals.... ohhhh.... Then a dose of Joe's music.... EEEEEEeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiyyyyyyyy!!!!!!

Yippee!! Joe posted! I'm as happy as a little boy hearing about Santa Clause again! I was listening to Crushing Day & it reminded me of those opening songs for cartoons like Robotek, Voltron, etc. during the 80's! Ooohh, those were the days...

About Joe's Chromeboy... The chrome itself is the finish. Nothing on top. So the chrome does smudge & fade & chip in time. Ahh, but it's a nice guitar anyways.

I'll be visiting Eastern Europe tomorrow, so I won't be around for 2 weeks. Oh dear, just think of all the posts I'll hafta go through when I come back. Oh well. Keep rockin'!!!! Especially you, Joe!!!

Ahh... finally, I'm back from my 2 week holiday to Eastern Europe. Yup, that would be Hungary, Austria, Poland, Czech, Germany, Russia & Netherlands. It was great fun. But the freaky thing is that the very instant I left each country, most of them got flooded!!! I'm sure you guys have heard about the weird weather in Europe on TV. Well, those are the places I visited!!

Now, I'll hafta go thru 1000+ posts!! Eeek! You people post a LOT!!

Did someone ask what guitars we (JS fans) use some time ago? I have a Squire Strat. & I am proud of owning one. It's such a good guitar! Sometimes, good things do come with a cheap price tag! Ha! Right now, I'm saving money for an RG570EX!!!

Ah... feels good to be back in Satch land again. Performing next Saturday at the Football Club again! Woo hoo! But I havn't thought of a set list yet. I know, I'll make up a contest to see who can come up the best set list, the winner will win a prize. Hmm, sounds familiar, doesn't it?

I sorta have a problem. I own a Zoom 505II multi effects unit and have been playing around with the effects until I found out that the "Pitch shifter up" (using pedal to raise pitch up to one octave higher) doesn't only shift the pitch up, but also mixes the original sound in it too! This makes it sound really crappy. The down shift doesn't do this on the other hand. I only hear the shifted tone. Is there something wrong with my unit or is it just a crappy design?? Help!!
