liquidguitar - if you'd ever seen Yngwie live, you'd realise that what he says is correct. He literally does improvise every solo, albeit around the main theme of the recorded solo. I've seen him 7 times, and he's played Far Beyond The Sun every time, and it's always different in some way. Some might say that's a bad thing, and he should stick more to what is on the recording, but it's what makes his shows more exciting, you never quite know where he's going next.

Anyway, I love all the G3 guys, so I'm going to enjoy every minute of the show. Some here seem as though they are going to go there already hating Yngwie, which is a shame, as those preconceptions mean those people will not enjoy his part of the show no matter what he does. There are always people like that at his shows, oddly enough. Why pay money to watch someone you hate? But in the case of G3 it's different, it attracts fans of all three musicians. It'll be a great show, and the jam will be incredible.

Mahavishnu - you should get Yngwie's self titled Rising Force album. It's got six instrumentals, and only two vocal tracks, and from what I've heard he's playing three of those tracks in the G3 show.

For those hoping 'The Eight Steps' will be on Anthology, I'd be extremely surprised if it is.

The Japanese have those bonus tracks to try and encourage sales of CDs in their own country, and they usually have them locked pretty tight, so that they can't appear on albums in other countries (although Korea seems to be getting them these days).

I know this, being a big Yngwie fan. When Spitfire re-released his back catalogue in 2000, they were unable to get permission from the Japanese record company, so they couldn't put most of them on those re-releases, and especially not the recent ones. I imagine it works the same way with Joe, and anybody else.

Still, for those of you that haven't got 'The Eight Steps', I hope I'm wrong. I've got the Japanese edition of SBM, so I'm alright! ;)

That "Yngwie on the plane" incident was 1988, which is a bit more than "a little time ago". He's not as much of a hothead now! :-D

I really MUST post my story of the time I met Yngwie sometime, coz everyone seems to think he's an arsehole all the time, and he really isn't.

BTW, the FURY poems are very creative! I can laugh at all that stuff.

Heh! Without wanting to sound rude, I always find it funny when I watch the local Michigan weather and the forecasters are going nuts over "wind gusts of UP TO 30 MPH!!!!!". Even in the hurrican, it was hilarious when the Weather Channel guy got blown down the street in 50 - 60MPH winds. That's not that bad! In the part of England where I used to live, 60MPH sustained winds were fairly common, and it wasn't unusual to have gusts over 100MPH, and we just walked around and got on with it. Odd how there was hardly ever any structural damage to houses/power lines down, too, in 60MPH winds.

I would class today's winds, of 30-40 MPH with gusts up to 60 MPH, as actually being fairly windy though. It's about the worst it's been in the 3 years I've been here.

Phrydom - I used to live in County Durham, a place called Consett, which is several hundred feet above sea level. It was usually bloody freezing there, and the winds were pretty bad. Actually, they were pretty bad all the way into Newcastle sometimes. It wasn't too uncommon for high sided vehicles to be blown over on the bridges and leave the traffic stuck!

Well, I married an American and logic at the time dictated I move over here. Wouldn't mind us moving over there though, to be honest, but that's homesickness for you.

Anyway, yeah, there's a huge stretch of road where you can do those amazing jumps! I remember we were going up to Jedburgh when I was little and there were loads of these huge rolling hills in the road, and then we came to a little one, so my dad speeded up to go over it, and there was a huge drop down the other side! He took it a bit easier after that....

Ah, Longframlington, Alnwick....all place names I know well, although they were a bit out of my way (been a few times though). Whitby's nice too.

As for being rough, well....I think Newcastle's just got a bad rep. It's true to say that, even on the coldest of winters' days, people will go out wearing nothing more than a shirt and jeans, but other than that it's no rougher than anywhere else. I would say that though, I love the place, that's where MY heart is!

I think that Jennifer Batten CD is called Above, Below and Beyond. I've got it. She's really good! I love about half of it, and the rest is impressive playing, with some good to average songs. It's definitely worth picking up.

Joe might not have done any video game music, specifically, but I remember when SEGA brought out that CD add on for the Megadrive/Genesis. There was a promo video for the game "Sewer Shark", and Joe's "Back to Shalla-Bal" was playing throughtout the entire clip. In fact, the clip was edited so that it fit perfectly with the length of the song! At the time, I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen.

I haven't read or posted here for quite a while, but apparently (and I haven't looked) there are dates for a European G3 featuring Joe, Steve and Yngwie on VH1.com now.

G3 DVD + CD

I notice that you don't get the full setlists on either the DVD or the CD, although you will get all the tracks if you buy both. I would be getting both anyway, but it's a shame that the full show couldn't be released on DVD (even if it was a 2 disc set).

Still, not long to wait now, and I'm REALLY looking forward to it!

Do The Stu

The track listings are on the Sony Music site, although they are hard to find. In case these links don't work, you have to go to the Shop, then search for G3.

G3 Rockin' in the Free World

G3 Live in Denver

Note that it says if you pre-order from them you get an autographed booklet!.

The DVD is almost certainly Region 1, although I couldn't say 100%.

I'd love to know who's bright idea it was to call Yngwie's tour "The Guitar Gods Tour". It's just a straightforward Malmsteen tour, with Lynch Mob opening. I'd be hugely surprised if there was any onstage interaction between the two. I suppose management somewhere must have thought it was a good idea.

I'm going to check out the Purple Moon nightclub in Flint, MI this week (it's where Yngwie is playing this tour). I'm 99% sure I'm going to this show. It's a choice between this and Dream Theater because they are both in Michigan in the same week and I can't get babysitting for both dates, but DT will probably be back in the summer.

Wow, someone mentioned Chris Rea! Haven't heard that name in a while. Anyway, he was/is a bluesy guitar player/vocalist from the north east of England that had some huge selling albums in Britain a decade or more ago. "The Road To Hell" is probably his best known one.

Just got the G3 CD and DVD today, and I like the DVD a lot. Obviously I'd have liked the whole show, but we get an excellent representation here, and it's a lot of fun. You can tell the guys all had a blast. Brings back nice memories of the G3 show I saw in Detroit....

I'm happy.

Just ordered a Diamond package for me and my dad, at Newcastle on June 17th (we already had tickets). We've had a hard few months (my youngest brother, and therefore my dad's youngest son, died very suddenly in November), and I figure that as it's the day before Father's Day, this will be absolutely fantastic for him. He's been playing the guitar for over 40 years, and he loves Joe, so I can't wait to see his face when I tell him. Which will probably be right as we arrive at the venue.... I'm evil!

Zenfish - Yngwie IS working on another Concerto Suite/classical type album.

However, it's very much a work in progress, and he's only working on it when he's got time. He's very happy with his rock stuff at the moment, apparently, and needs to take a lot of time off from that to concentrate on something as complicated as a classical-style album.

But don't rule it out, it seems as though it's definitely on the agenda. :D

And so, at last, now that I'm back living in the backwater that Europe appears to be, today I finally got Super Colossal. AT LAST!

Just whizzing through it as it's late (my trip to work tomorrow will see it blasted through the iPod), but I'm liking what I've heard so far, a LOT. The title track is fantastic, and I really, really enjoy Crowd Chant. Can't wait to participate in that one at Newcastle City Hall! I also can't wait to see my dad's face when I tell him I've got us the premium tickets for that show.... :D

Quick question for anyone in the UK that ordered the Diamond package, or anyone else that would know:

What should we expect to receive before the show? I've got the show tickets, they came ages ago. Do we receive tickets for the backstage event, or an e-mail telling us what to do on the day? According to the e-mail I received when I ordered the packages, I would "receive tickets 14 days before the event". Well, it's now 14 days before the event, and I'm none the wiser.

Anybody else in this situation, or that knows how this all works?

Cheers. :D

Thanks for that, Suzie. As I suspect is the case with you, it wasn't the merchandise I was concerned with, rather the timing of the whole thing, and whether we had to bring anything (ticket, printed e-mail, whatever).

It looks like we'll just have to wait a bit loinger to find out the specifics. Thanks a lot for posting that. :D

EDIT: And yes, I am looking forward to meeting him, although I've met him once before, in Detroit a few years ago. I want to clear up with him that I'm not actually stupid, because I probably came across that way the first time! Obviously, my accent stood out in America, and Joe asked where I was from, and I just said, "England!". To which Joe replied, "Uhh.. yeah... which part?" and I just said "The North-East!".

I think Joe probably knows his way around England quite well by now....

Really, though, I got this package for my dad. He's a huge Joe fan, and a guitar player of more than 40 years, and it's Father's Day the day after the show. We've had a hard time, losing my youngest brother in November aged just 26, and anything I can do to help put a smile on my parents' faces, I will do it. And believe me, this will put a BIG smile on my dad's face! :D
