This will probably be an unpopular message, but as Satriani is my favorite living guitarist, I feel the necessity of briefing my opinion. Basically, I think the new album "Strange Beautiful Music" is not exemplary of Satriani's virtuoso guitar work. I know Satriani needs to market his music to a broader audience than just pure-technical guitar enthusiasts, and by all means, I hope his music sells well, but the rifts on "Strange Beautiful Music" sound "watered down"; i.e.--they are simpler and they contain less notes than on an album such as say, "Surfing with the Alien". I remember "Engines of Creation" had a techno appeal to it, and I can understand Satriani wanting to experiment with different types of music, but I would hate to have to say, "I like 'old' Satriani." Seems like every musician out there has a fan of their "old" repertiore from Bowie to the Blind Melon who has nothing new. Anyway, to make my point, Joe, if I am wrong forgive me, but please return to the style used during the days of "Flying in a Blue Dream" and "Surfing with the Alien" which is one of the greatest albums of its decade.

Getting more G3 footage, especially Yngwie Malmsteen's set, is a dream come true. It is the manifestation of my thoughts and wishes immediately after the show--i.e., "I hope they release a new G3 album from this tour, because Malmsteen's set was amazing."
Listening to Satriani is like getting sucked through a portal in vacuous outer-space and being plunked down on a strange and beautiful world of the future that although foreign is somehow familiar and there is absolutely nothing to fear.
