if you really want to experiment with pitch axis i recommend messing around with chord inversions...listen to the song engines of creation. Joe magically took the tonality of an Fmaj7 chord by puttin the A on top (1st inversion)...this took the song from the Amixo feel to Amin for that one chord...

jsclone - look at the notes it becomes an Aminb6 chord (which isn't alegal name for some reason in jazz)... FACE = Fmaj7...in first inverison ACEF....1 b3 5 b6...

graham...you're most likely correct with the information that you provided. I mostly took notes on how most jazz musicians look at it as inversions if not notated other ways. Us rockers don't give a damn what ya call it as long as we know what you're referring to lol :) Amin(addb6) sounds perfectly FINE to me lol...

greg_m...chord construction rules tend to stay the same though. Whether you call it an Amin(addb6) or an Fmaj7/A...it's still the same notes when constructiing it note for note...

rich...jsclone, trying to make this way more complicated. Simply saying that with the Fmaj7...1 3 5 7...making it a 3 5 7 1 when looked at it as a totalyl new root (a) as opposed to Fmaj7/a now reads 1 b3 5 b6...look at the notes... F(1) A(3) C(3) E(7)....A(1) C(b3) E(5) F(b6)....that chord is DEF going to have an a minor quality to it, no matter WHAT you call it...

simon manzer...your clips have some cool techniques, but to be completely honest, it sounds like one long 80's guitar solo...
