Clarky ~ just read the post about explaining modes. i teach for a living at the moment and you would not beleive the amount of teachers i see explaining modes the first way you were describing....it drives me crazy cause modse are so easy to understand if you deliver the information the second way. i think having ppl show them as the derivative is like punching the student in the face and asking them not to understand them as their own invidividual...self employed entitities to music.

and clarky ~~~~ yah man i take a similar spot. I find it very easy for them to associate better with aeolian though faster than ionian. So i tend to start with that...they can just feel it more it seems.

clarky ~ i hear ya on the satchness with CoE. It's my biggest inner demon~ Since the split though, things are getting...interesting? I've been focusing more on odd like scenarios and writing around them instead of just playing something that sound "cool" to me.
