Well that's just fucking terrific. The deadline for my unit essays has been moved forward from monday, which I could have coped with, to THURSDAY!!! I can just about cope with that, but it's a shit load of extra pressure I could really do without; especially since I'm practicing for my technical development exams which are on monday and tuesday... AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGH!!!!

Clarky - Here's a quick little query regarding the sixth mode of the Melodic minor scale (1, 2, b3, 4, b5, b6, b7): Would you call it Locrian #2 or Locrian nat. 2? I've heard both, but it seems to me that it should be Locrian nat. 2, seeing as how a normal Locrian mode has a b2. It seems like Locrian #2 would mean 1, #2, b3, 4, b5, b6, b7. And in that case the second note would be enharmonic to the third one. But then the argument is that, compared to a normal Locrian mode, it's a #2. This has been bugging me for ages.... :-/

Oh the relief!!!!!!! I just finished all my coursework! Got to hand it in tomorrow. I can't forget. That be really dumb, consdiering if I miss the deadline the very most I can get is 35%, regardless of the quality of work. And that's a 'Borderline Fail'.... Not good, in other words. :-/

Clarky - Wow; thanks for those words of encouragement, dude. I'm looking forward to our next jam, too. Soon you say? Your nan must be doing well then, which I'm glad to hear... I handed in my coursework today, but as soon as I left the building I was like "I could have put that in there; I could have made this point..." etc. I'm never fucking happy. Another example - today I was doing a session for one of the production students. It was a trance song and he wanted a guitar solo and some acoustic lines. I came up with an acoustic line I was happy with, so was he, but the first solo I played I hated. This guy was like "Are you kidding? That was awesome!", but I made him delete anyway, along with the next five or six I played. I told him I knew I could do better. Turns out I could... :-D Good job we weren't paying for that studio time!!!! lmao

Clarky - Yeah, I agree. I'll be posting the track on my website, as well as the other one I did for my housemate - as I said before, it's unit coursework deadline time, so I've had quite a lot of sessions thrown my way. I seem to have picked up this reputation as 'the shredder on the degree course', which is nice... lmao

Clarky - Thanks for your good advice. I think I'm quite a nice guy (and I certainly try to be...), and so far it's only really been my friends that have given me work - but there's nothing to stop them recommending me, I guess. I'm starting to get to know my kit really well too. If I hear a sound in my head I can easily pull it out of my little box within a minute. The problems arise when the producer says things like "can you give me sort of twangy sound with a bit of a jangle?". WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN?! lmao... As far as heavy bands go; I don't know who you already know but I'd definitely recommend Fear Factory, Pantera, Killswitch Engage, Deftones, The Used, Dillinger Escape Plan, Korn, Machine Head, Meshuggah, Pain Of Salvation, and Tool.

Clarky - the thing that gets me is all the studio effects have the same name as effects us guitar players use. You'd think they'd know what chorus, flanger, overdrive, and compression is. It seems they don't use that terminology in case we get confused... lol... I just went for a tiny touch of dirt, so the notes have a little extra bite and attack, on the back pickup (coil-tapped), with a bit of reverb and shallow chorus. They seemed to be happy with that...

Well, I did my exam. I nailed all the Melodic and Harmonic minor scale modes; all the 9th, 7th, 11th, 13th, and altered chords; all the arpeggios; the sight reading; the improv., etc. What did I fuck up? Eb Mixolydian and C# minor pentatonic. C# MINOR FUCKING PENTATONIC?!!! How do you fuck up a minor pentatonic scale? I'm such a fucking retard...

crucshingday - I'm studying a degree in Contemporary Popular Music. It's a BA(Hons) course at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. Same place as Mr. Nick, just a different course.

Clarky - All of the above... lol. I was asked to play the third shape of C# minor pentatonic. Being a complete prick, I actually played the fifth shape of G# minor pentatonic. Then Pete (the examiner) said "Do you want to try that again?" I did, and I played exactly the same thing. "Again, maybe?" "Oh, yeah. Shit..." I said. Dumbass. lmao
