Joe is back, finally.
I've been a satch fan since 1988. I was disillusioned by engines of creation. Not only was it $22 (got it the day it was released), it wasn't at all what I liked in Joe's tunes.
I gave up on him for a while, then checked back here a couple days ago and realized he'd released a new album months ago. I listened to the samples and decided it might be worth it. I can say that strange-beauty is the music that made me a satch fan.
Glad you're back, Joe.
I understand an artist has to explore. Just don't use an entire album to do it. A couple artistic songs each is fine by me...

dyer: EOC had too little guitar and too much techno for my tastes. Many of us old-timers (satch fans since the beginning) are heavy guitar enthusiasts. SBM is back to what made our cult follow Joe.

dyer: I sat down and listened to EOC again, since it's been a while. It's growing on me now. There are six or seven songs that aren't half bad. I guess I was so disillusioned by the change of style from previous albums that I didn't give it enough chance.
I still prefer much of his earlier style, but that is the old fogie in me. One thing that is sure: Joe is first and foremost a great musical artist, and a great musician to boot. And from what I am seeing of him in the album jackets, he seems to be a great father. I am now appreciating that fact a lot. It's so nice to have popular musicians (really talented one) that is also well grounded and well heeled in life. Got to admire that.

Hurricane Stew: I understand how you feel about EOC. I've been a fan as long as you, since late eighties. EOC was a big disappointment for me as well. Used to be I would wait on pins-n-needles till the release date of all of Joe's albums. After EOC I stopped watching. But I decided last week to come here and see what was up, hoping perhaps Joe would release a new album that wasn't techno-centirc.
Indeed, strange beautiful music is mostly back to what brought us to Joe in the first place. You'll love Chords of Life. Go buy SBM, you won't be disappointed this time.

ALBUM COVER ART
Hendrix's "Are You Experienced?" cover
Joe, I am a huge fan, since 1989. I am also one of the premiere infrared photographers in the US, and I would like to offer to do a color IR photo session for any upcoming album you might want. Hendrix had a color infrared done for his "Are you Experienced?" cover.
Take a look at my work at:
people art
scenic art
This is real photography, using professional equipment.
Thanks
dave
