I've asked this before, but maybe I'll have better luck getting it answered here, on the "Not of this Earth" album, how does he do those strange oriintal chordings? (Like on not of this earth, after he does the leggato pull off hammer on's he does a chord where the top e string is fretted on the 14th fret and the g string on the 4th.) When he does that, does he really play both notes at the same time or does he record them at different times. I use his material for refrence, i'm trying to record some oriontal style stuff. It seems on that album alot of the chords are octave's up. But like on Hordes of Locusts and the snake there several octaves above. The farthest I can strech my hand is 8/3. (8 fret, 3 fret under it0 9/3 if i'm lucky.) He does that kinda thing on "The Snake" any suggestions on how to do that or to practice that type of hand movement?

This is to the Stu Clone, since he probably knows the answer to this. Does Joe ever do any slapping/scraping or any cool tricks with the bass. I've enever really heard him jam on bass. He plays some on Surfing but the guitar blasts it in the backround. That's the cool thing about Stu, he can blast the bass in the forground, without having to crank the volume.

[SATCHFAN], about the bootlegs, yeah that would be cool, let me know where your posting them. Did he jam with Paul Shaffer? Was that before or after he cut his hair? They have the same hairstyle..lol. Didn't realized he played with Alice Cooper, etc. Thanks for the disc. I'll have to be sure to check those out. Didn't he ever play with Ozzy OSbounre, I don't think he did but soemone out there is bound to know.

Do you happen to have the oriogional Joe Satriani LP, not the re-release on Time Machine, the origional? J/w.

greg m is right. I knew a guy who though Lynard Skynard and Metallica was the extreme for guitar. I let him borrow "Surfing with the Alien" It blew him away, he was like. WHat the ^%$ was he on? How could he play like that, that's impossible to be that fast and get those sounds." I was like that before I listened to Satch. Studing Satch, Chet Atkins, Steveie Ray,etc has helped with my own style of guitar.

{Mr Nick} Thank you for your reply, I was thinking that. I have the tab book. Usually I just play another octave type chord, sicne i have the tab book it tells me what chord it is, I just play around and do it by ear sometimes. I was thinking "There is no way anyone could play that lengh going up and down the fretboard that quickly. But then again it is Satch. BTW, what does he do when he plays Not of this earth live with that type of chording. (Alas, he doesn't play much of Not of this Earth) Does he get his rythem guitarist to play the other note.

{SATCHFAN} Do you know where I could get recording of him playing on Letterman. That would be awesome, I couldn't find it on ebay. If you know where I can stream it or buy it or get it off of someone let me know. Thanks. (By the way, didn't he jam with Steve Morse? I know they were both with Deep Purple at one point, didn't they tour together, I'm sure they did, although I wasn't able to go. Next time he tours I need to go to a concert) If your ever giving anything away I'll take it, if your selling any Satch stuff I may buy it if I'm interested, I suggest you do it on Ebay. That site rocks. Before that it was hard to get some crap, now there's more crap than you even need of Satch's...lol.

{JS Clone 1} Like the 11/4 12/5 part) after he goes from the E Minor chord to the F# one, the intro riff. He does this oriontal chording type thing, that's the only place where you have to strach, I think it's 2 different guitar parts. Can you tell me how you played this live? This is how the song is because I have the offiv\cial tab book. (Note: I'm using this as study for making my own oriontal style of music)

Trying to see "Weird Al" Yankovic in Valdosta Georgia in August, that should be awesome. If Al ever does a parodie of a complicated guitar song Satch is the man he needs to get. (Although I doubt Satch would do this.) I'm still waiting for the SBM tab book. Oh well I'll keep checking tab book sites for it. I like the tab books most internet tabs are inaccuaate and they don't show the notes, that helps me keep time. By the way to any who was wondering "Weird Al"'s new album Poodle Hat is out now, May 20th, go to cdnow.com to get your copy or at a store.

WHat would of been awesome is Satch doing the soundtrack to the matrix, that would make the movie much better than it already is. I don't like the soundtrack to it now, which is dissapointing because I like the soundtrack to many movies like that. Satch has had some of his songs on various movies, I recall one being a Cameron Crow movie or some movie in the late 80's. DId Stevie Ray Vaughn ever play with Satch or comment on his playing? I've heard his comments in the late 80's on Eric Johnson, but that's mostly it. I'm trying to get all of Joe's inerviews in past magazines, which isn't a easy task. There's always ebay

12/ 5 means a chord with a fretted 12, and under it a fretted 5.

[Greg M] I haven't got my guitar autographed, I was think of Weird ALsigning it, I'll probably just take a cd. I have a Ibenez JS-100. I think if I get it laminated it might help. I probably will get a cd singed, because I mean, It's so easy to get off the guitar, it's just better to get soemthing else singed I think. By the way I wasn't able to contribute to t2j. I'm still trying to get my ideas down and my recordings so far aren't that professional. I'll eventually get a better recording system or go into a small time studio.

[Clarky] Like on the G string the 12th fret and the D string the 5 fret, that's the 12/5 position, of how i write it. A fretted fret above another, that chording position. It's a weird oriontal position, Satch records each note at a different time i think.

JS Clone 1, sorry dude, i ment the 12th fret on the G string and the 5th on the d, which could be played on the 10th with a A. According to some I could use the octave petal, the type Joe uses, I was just wondering if you use a octave petal when doing those weird oriontal chording on HOL, like it's right after the begginng of the song, after you go between those 2 chords the 2nd guitar comes in, I was just wondering how you performed this live. I streamed some of your stuff, it's neat, do you have a cd out?

I ask way too many questions on here, but this is to the Stu Hamm radicals. Has anyone ever heard Stu play guitar. On "Kings Of Sleep" he has other people play, I know he's had Joe play on one of his albums, I was just wondering if he has. Since Stu is so good at bass, he should be a decent guitarist. Same with Joe with the bass, from what I can hear when Joe plays bass (The majority on Surfing and on Not of this Earth, later on he uses Greg or STu, etc.) He's a good bassist just because you can transend that knowledge with the stringed instruments. (Although Joe is not as good as bass as Stu and Stu would not be as good as guitar as Joe would) One more thing, this is a stupid question but how much does Joe practice a day, i've read many interviews of his and I have been unable to find any info on this.

[slanshroom] I totally agree with you. I've listen to Stevie Ray for a long time. It hurts me when there are still people out there who think "Kurt Cobain, Pearl Jam" are the extreme of guitar. What I don't get is why slock grunge like Kid Rock gets airplay and Stevie's doesn't. I figure Joe's doesn't just because it's instrumental, and that's a damn shame because there are amny good songs he's done. Stevei's is too blusy for the masses. That's the problem with most people, they can't expand on their musical tastes, so they listen to the same FM crud. I can't remember the last time Joe was on the radio. He was when Surfing came out, but then it went down here, I guess it was just a phase for the masses. Most people have no clue who he is anymore. If I go to Toccoa Falls college next year, I'm going to major in Music and Guitar. They have a radio station there and if I have a radio class I promise if I have the chance to be a DJ I'll put Stevie or Satch on there. It's a college radio station, but it's cool, it's different, not the same 10 rock songs. I've even listened to Chet Atkins, who's a excellent guitarist, just to expand my horizons.
