EyesOfFire.... That's too bad you got cut from the recital, it's always hard when that stuff happens. Hope ya knock em dead when spring comes around.

Joe - Slick sounds pretty cool, you should add that one to the set list, seems like there is a huge amount of demand comin off of this site...

Joe - Thanks for replying, that totally made my day. Anyway, I've only heard a little bit of Slick from the Discography section of the site, but if you think it's a little dry and needs another solo than you probably cant go wrong doing that. I think it would help if you did a stream of the full song, kinda like you did with Starry Night and Mind Storm, on this site. That way we could get a better idea of what you mean....

Thanks again.......... mick

Jimbojim - That's great that your sister is doing better and feeling great. With support from friends and family you can really help a person out......

Joe (or anyone who knows) - Is the full version of Slick available anywhere to download or buy? I'd like to hear the whole song so I know what you mean by it needing another solo at the end....

Thanks......... Mick

Joe - I was reading through some of the online lessons at Guitarworld.com and I checked out some of yours. I was pretty interested on what you were saying about modes. Basically, my question is, how important do you think modes are in developing your guitar skills at, say an intermediate level? Like when I start improvising for something to do I am usually restricted to just using the Blues Scale. Do you think it's a good idea to get a good understanding of modes earlier on, or is that something that is best learnt later? Thanks..... mick

It is Stu not Boo - Thanks for the advice, I was reading through more of his lessons at Guitar World and Joe talked about how he used, I think it was B Phrygian, on Time and I can totally hear how it changed the sound of the song...... mick

josh jwc - well I was in the same situation as you about 2 months ago. Just have fun man! If you go in there looking forward to it, as soon as you get on stage it seems like you're the only one there, but that might of just been the fact that there was a stage light pointing directly at my face and I couldn't see much..... Anyway, I havent had as much stage experience as other people here, but if you just have fun you should be fine...

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on modes.... Hopefully I'll get a good understanding soon if I keep reading (and playing)....
Joe - Have you ever jammed with Jimmy Page or Clapton?........mick

Mr Nick - Happy 500th!

Joe - l think you'll have to play Slick sooner or later, all those posts that Mr. Nick does saying SLICK a bunch of times is starting to get hard on the ol eyes....just jokin.... but it is a cool song so if you think the whole version is ready to be performed, I would do it....

Oh we won our basketball game 38-35..... the last 5 minutes were killer on the legs, I feel like jello.... mick

Jstrat57 - for Love Thing, check out some of the tabs at guitartabs.cc.... the opening chords are -

e---2--2--2--4--4--2--2------------
B---5--5--4--2--2--0--0------------
G---4--4--4--2--2--1--1------------
D---2--2--2--2--2--2--2------------
A--------------------------------------
E-------------------------------------

That happens three times then goes to something like this once-

e--0---0---0---0----0---0-----
B--0---0---0---0---0---0----
G--9---8---6--------1--------
D--9---9---7--------2---------
A- X------------------2----------
E--9-----------------0----------

Then back to the original chords, and then back again, you get the idea......

Of course this is just the rythmn, it changes again a bunch of times where you arpeggiate some chords, but this will give you an ok understanding......mick

Just a question, it's probably been asked before but..... what kind of things can you do to stop or slow your guitar from going out of tune from using the whammy bar?? Cause Joe seems to keep his pretty close when he starts getting into some diving..... Well, this just puzzles me..... mick

Ok I need help..... I want to get a new, cool guitar cd and would like to know some recommendations. So it would be awesome if some of you could put your top three cds down for guitar, limiting them to one per band or player (so not all Satch cds, or Hendrix, or Vai...). And Joe, if you read this could you put your top three favorite cds down?

Appreciate it.... mick

mowlie_2000 - Eric Johnson was going to release a DvD of Ah Via Musicom a little while ago, but he cancelled it at the last minute, he said it wasn't a good product... he's got a few instructional videos but the only live thing on DvD at the moment I think is just the G3 thing he did with Joe and Steve.... he did a show on Austin City limits where he played Cliffs of Dover back in 90 I think... you might be able to find some one who has it, but it'll be hard....

Can anyone tell me about the Korg PXR4 and the Tascam Pocketstudio 5? I'd like to know if it is a good investment for recording,. Thanks..... mick

Jstrat57 congrats man!!! you and I had our questions answered first as well! What a day, the chat was a ton of fun....

Joe - Thanks for answering my question at the chat..... It was just what I needed to hear right now. You gave good points to keep in mind as I develope more and more as a guitar player.Thanks.... mick
