Hi! Just thought I should say something, now that I'm an "official" Joe's fan. :) (sorry about the size, I divided it into "chapters" so that it is easier to read)

Some time ago a friend of mine showed me an album called Crystal Planet... and it all started! I thought: WoW! This is the way I wanna play some day, and this is the music I wanna hear!

I was playing acoustic guitar at the time, after I got tired of my piano lessons. So one day my dad gave me a not-good-but-not-so-bad electric guitar and my eyes were shining! I played for 2 years or something and I must say I love this instrument! The problem is I never had lessons, I never had some solid basis.

A year ago I formed a band with some friends and sacrificed (In my opinion it wasn't a sacrifice at all!) my last two birthdays and Xmas to buy a marshall amp, a boss multiple effects pedal and, my dream-come-true, an Ibanez JS900!

Now that I'm feeling really happy, I bought the LISF dvd and got even more enthusiastic about the instrument! I want to play like that! (by the way, could someone tell me how to make my guitar scream? I think it's a pinch harmonic somewhere but I can't do it!), although everytime I see my teacher play or even some friends of mine I realize how I really suck...

So now I finally got into some lessons, and I am learning the basic things I should have learned in the beginnig, which is really weird, even boring sometimes. My problem is that almost everytime I try to study some tabs I find myself improvising and jamming for an hour or two, having a great time, but no study! It's so difficult to start doing what you're told to after five or six years playing for fun! When I go and find some Satriani tabs or some music I really WANT to play, I can't sleep untill I've learned it, but if I'm given some papers to study I find it sometimes very difficult to get into them... And I love to be free and improvise and not to be stuck on some paper! But I'm feeling that this way the progress will be slow...

Has this happened to any of you? Do you have any suggestions? ...Joe?

Anyway, it's mainly to say: "Hi, I'm here and I'm a Satch fan too!" (sorry about the size)

P.S.- Joe, I would LOVE to see you in PORTUGAL someday! You've got lots of fans here! Seeing you play live must be worth a lifetime!

Thanks Clarky! I'm practicing the pinch harmonics and they're becoming easier to do, which is a good sign. Another thing I see Joe doing to make screams is holding the tremolo down while making the harmonic, and then pulling it up slowly. It's awesome! But it's so hard... I've tried over and over again but I can't make the harmonic sound good! With the tremolo down the string moves a lot! It sounds cool, but it's more like an F1 engine... It's not even close to a scream... I'm learning "Always with me, Always with you". BEAUTIFUL SOLO!

Damn! I'm here trying to tune the first string of my Ibanez JS and I can't! It's really pissing me off! The string only gives me a tuned note on the first 7 frets! On the 12th it's awfully low (more than 1/4 of a tone)! I've moved that movable thing (does it have a name?) on the bridge all the way in the neck's direction and it's better, but still low! What can I do now? Am I doing things right? Could it be the string? I mean, it's a new guitar! Do the fine tuners affect this? Please understand my ignorance... I'm almost a beginner after all! (still learning that beautifull solo!)

Thnx PhryDom. It's a good name, saddle. :) Yes, the screw is in the position which is the closest to the neck... :-\ Maybe I should go back to the store and see what they can do... It's a bit frustrating... Well, for now I'll just keep bending each note a bit... :-/

PhryDom- Yeah, that's what i'll do... Thanks.

I dedicated my afternoon playing around with feedback effects... (I should be studying maths...) Does anyone know how to play does feedbacks on the intro of Flying in a Blue Dream?

I think I found out some things... I put distortion and reverb and a lot of other things in it, switch to the bridge pickup, volume up, and started experimenting... :)

The easyest one I found out it was by making a gentle pull off on the 3rd string around the 12th fret, it gave me a B feedback (sometimes it gives me a G... haven't figured out this one yet...). Also by using the same technique on the 1st string, 9th fret, it gave me the same B feedback, on the same 3rd string! Also by making a very gentle hammer on on the 4th string, 14th fret an bending just a tiny bit, it gave me, I think it was an E feedback. And it's really cool what you can do with some feedback and a tremolo arm! It was really fun to do, but I was just experimenting... I know nothing about feedback effects...

Is there any theory about feedback effects? Anyway, could someone please teach me how to play that intro? :)

Well... now I think i'll study... (Why do I have to know maths??!! I mean, we all die someday! And then noone will care if you know maths or not!)

(once again... I should be studying...)

Thought of the day: It would be great if we could fly in a blue dream without worrying about maths exams...

PhryDom- Hey, I've been trying those feedbacks! They rock! I just put some backing track in C and kept holdig the C note and changing my guitar's position and moving around the room and the feedback kept changing! It's awesome! Very cool effect! Thanks man! The link you're talking about is that Alex Van der Linde stuff? (it was your post, wasn't it?...) The acoustic version of Always... it's fabulous! Loved it!

Artanis- I'd fly through some things in life, but not all of it! Some things are really worth living on the ground! Even bad things can teach a lot! And without them, the good ones wouldn't have any value... (not that I'm a very experienced living person, but it's just what I think...) :)

pejman- Calm down, man! You're always too young to die! :)

ptrocker- It's cool that portuguese fans are coming to the site! But I can only see us 2! Or perhaps 3, I think... Hey! Said the same thing before, and I'll say it again: Joe, if you pass by, give us a visit! 800 Km of beach! We have some snow too (well, not anything big, but we have some... :-) ) and, most important, we have fans! :) I'd love to see Joe live in the Atlantic Pavillion!

Well, gess I'll go now... I still have to study this crap...

Cleetus- If it looked like a plastic bag, it must have been a jellyfish... They surely hurt like hell! Once I was fishing under water (can't remember the name of it in english...) with a friend of mine right in the middle of the Atlantic, in the Azores islands, and the water near the coast was full of jellyfish, like 5 per square meter... but we were kind of used to it so we went on... Never regreted anything more than that! I got "bitten" on my foot, on my hand and on my neck. Under water it wasn't feeling too bad at first, but then I got out! That was pain!... But they were quite harmless, though... I'm alive! :) No sharks here in continental portugal... Thank God for that! But there are some in the Azores, although they never tend to come near the coast (Thanks again, God! :-P ) They once caught a big white shark there sometime ago... Here in lisbon we have one of the biggest aquariums in the world (I thik it's the second or third...). We have about 10 species of sharks there. They're awesome! I'm there as a volunteer, but I want to be a guitar-playing marine biologist one day! :) I know it's not easy but... there's always McDonald's or supermarkets...

ptrocker- N, nunca o vi ao vivo... :-\ No outro dia tavam a promover o DVD Live in San Francisco no CC! Deram o satch boogie todo! (this is about a portuguese TV show, so it would have been exactly the same if I had translated it...)

PhryDom- Well, I've been thinking... doing those feedbacks is easy in a small room but, what about in a BIG room or in a stage?... Is there a different technique or is it exactly the same?

Mr Nick- lol! Yeah! That would be cool! Never thought of it... Maybe Joe sees your post and likes the idea! :)

But honestly I prefer dolphins. They're absolutely fabulous animals! And I read they are the only animals, other than man, that have sex for pleasure (which is obviously not the reason why I like them, it was just a curiosity...). They're so great!

ptrocker- Well, I get all my Satriani tabs at www.mysongbook.com. But they're in guitar-pro files. I don't know if you have the software, but you can download the demo at www.guitar-pro.com. Most of them are great tabs and come with all the intruments tabbed (drums, bass, 2nd guitars, etc.) and you can listen to them! It's very usefull, 'cause you can mute the solo part and play along! Of course, if you have the software, you know all this... but that's the site I use anyway.

PhryDom- :) Cool! Didn't know that my questions could inspire someone! I'll see if I can come up with more! I love feedbacks too! They can sound really great! Flying in a Blue Dream has one of my favourite intros, if not my favourite! They look like whales crying! Great! Of course my feedbacks don't sond like Joe's... At least for now... But I surely have a great time playing with them! :)

A stupid but curious thing: If you point a TV remote or any other remote between the neck pickup and the beginning of the neck and press any button, it makes a really stupid sound... but it's curious... Not sure it's harmless, but still curious...

Anyone else uses guitar pro? I mean, I see a lot of people asking for tabs and stuff, I have 36 guitar pro tabs of Joe Satriani, and they have 119 satriani tabs at mysongbook.com. With the demo you can use downloaded files but I think you have some limits for composing and, the worst thing, you can't print... But it's definately (did I spell that correctly?) worth downloading! I have the full version, and I use it a lot! You can even write with standard notation and it converts it to tab format! And you can convert midi into tab, tab into midi, tab any instrument you want. Really cool! Check it out here!

HEY!! 10 POSTS!! 490 to go... :P

Hi! Just woke up. It's freezing cold here... :-/ Last night I couldn't sleep, so I started writing, and I wrote something about Joe! :) And then I thought... well, this is crap, I'll throw it in the bin... or maybe post it... lol! So I'll post it. Just to warn you not to have too much coffee at dinner... :-/ I went to bed at 3:30 a.m. and fell asleep at 5.00! That was bad! Anyway, here it goes:

The starry night was calm and clear,/ There was just a fly buzzin' in my ear,/ Clouds were racing across the sky,/ But then a song came passing by.../

What's this I hear? It can't be true!/ This music makes my sky turn blue!/ Who is he? I'm in despair!/ This hairy guy who cuts his hair?/

As I said this, night became day,/ An S came out and then an A,/ A T, an R, an I, an A,/ An N and I started to pray!.../

But this was not the end at all!/ What I could hear were bells of lal!/ His name is Joe, he plays much more/ Than anyone has played before!/

His hands are fast, they really fly!/ I wonder who could beat this guy!/ He can't slow down, that's what he says,/ Gotta be fast and smooth theese days.../

Each note he plays it with his heart,/ Each song can free our salty tears./ I had a dream about to start/ When once this sound came to my ears./

I want to try, not sure I can.../ One day I wish to play like him./ I know for now I'm just a fan.../ Just let me fly in my blue dream.../

Miguel Pais

Well, see? Thats what cofee does! Bad for the health! Bad bad bad! Anyway I think it's cool! :)

Ethn- Cool one too! (I don't punch like him either!)

Quantum- www.mysongbook.com is, as far as I know, the best source on the web for guitar pro files. And it has a lot of satriani tabs that can be used as tabs and backing tracks.

Did anyone like that thing I wrote? 'Cause if it really sucks I'll edit it and erase it before Joe sees it! lol! :P

PhryDom- Standard guitar pro files right into a midi sequencer?! Don't you need to export them as midi first? I usually take out the solo parts and export the rest as midi so that I can use them as backing tracks everywhere. I can print them with guitar pro 'cause i've got the full version. :)

anyone- I tried to register for the live chat at guitar-guitar.com and I can't! I wrote a private message to Joe, clicked "send", and nothing happened, so I clicked send again and again, and still nothing saying if it was sent! Was it sent? Did this happen to any of you? And the time for registration expires tomorrow... :(

ptrocker- Well, I'm back! Said it to you, but I'll say it again here: Great music! Loved it! :)

Did any of you see ptrocker's post about his album Rocker's Schizophrenia? Great! Check it out: www.ptrocker.com Just give your opinion! Every player needs some opinions about its work!

Good to see a rising number of portuguese fans! :) Maybe Joe will come here! :)

PhryDom- Hi! Thanx to you, everytime I play my guitar I find myself having fun with some feedbacks! :) Love them!

Well, bye! Have to study maths again... I quit in the middle of the exam so I'll have to repeat it now... :( last chance...

Hi everyone! A long time has passed since the last time I came here! :p I really missed T2J! Obviously I didn't have the time nor the patience to look at all the posts! But I have some questions...

What's this thing about the T2J CD? Who had this awesome idea?!!!!!

I have all of Joe's albums exept for "Dreaming #11". I wanted to have them all, but this one has no new songs... Is there anything different that makes it really worth having? (I'll probably just end up buying it, but this is just a thought...lol)

Just got Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and started making some recording experiences! Great!!! I'm having a lot of fun with it! Well, nothing that deserves being put on any CD for now... lol! My friends liked it... but they're my friends....

How can I get the T2J CD here in Portugal when it's ready?

Well, now I'll watch the LISF DVD for the 5441145th time. :)

Good luck with the songs for the CD! :)

Hi all!

Well, this thing about the CD was a brilliant idea! I am just a rookie, but I'm trying to record some things and come up with something that could possibly deserve being put on the CD...

Maybe I can, maybe not, but anyway, I have a question:

How do you make a song copyrighted? I mean, I'm in Portugal, maybe it's different, but isn't it expensive? I don't know anything about it...

Thnx trutina. Well, in Portugal we have the Portuguese Society of Authors or something like that and you must become part of it by paying $150, which is hugely expensive! And once you become part of it than I don't know how it works, but anyway $150 is too much!! :( Maybe one day... But there must be another way! Or maybe not... well... I dunno... I'll just go to sleep for now. :)

Hi! I heard this exellent joke yesterday:

I won't mention anything or anyone in particular for obvious reasons, so it's something like this:

Two men were from two neighbour countries, which had a quite unfriendly relationship (let's call them countries A and B). But these two men somehow happened to be in the same place at the same time when one of them was cleaning a lamp (it's a normal thing to do in this kind of situation) and a blue genius appeared! The blue guy said: "I am now free from this horrible prision! As you might know, the only way I know to thank someone is to ask for a wish, and so I'll ask each one of you for a wish, and it shall become reality!" "You! Ask for anything you want!" And the guy from country A said:" Well, I shall take this opportunity to do something I've allways dreamed of! At our country we hate the people from country B! They pollute our society! They're not even as intelligent as our superior nation! So I want you to build the highest and strongest wall possible all around our country, so they can never come to our country again! Not even flying!" And the genius replied: "Your wish shall now become a reality!" And suddenly a giant strong wall appeared around country A! "Now you! Ask for anything you want!" And the guy from country B said: "Errr... Mr. Genius, is that wall you built around country A really, really high? "Yes, it is!", the genius said. "And is it really, really strong?" "Yes, it certainly is!", he continued. "Impossible to get in, impossible to get out?" "Absolutely!", the genius replied. And after thinking a bit the guy said: "Ok... so fill it with water!"

PhryDom- Did you receive my mail this time? I can't understand what might be wrong! Well, 5 Mb is quite big... If it didn't work I'll try sending it from another adress... Maybe it's my server... Please say if it worked or not. Thnx.
