Scorpions stay busy

Scorpions fans, alert: the German metal titans have a couple of new projects in the works. Blabbermouth.net reports that the Scorps are putting the finishing touches on a "best-of" DVD which they hope to release in late spring or early summer. They are also said to be planning a new album for the fall, although details are not yet available. In the meantime, the Scorps will support Judas Priest on a U.K. tour that kicks off 03.16.

Mötley Crüe ready for tour to start

After weeks of rehearsal, Mötley Crüe kicks off its Red, White & Crüe tour tonight in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The tour - which reunites the group's original lineup for the first time since 1997 - has been one of the year's hottest sellers so far, which frontman Vince Neil said has been a surprise to the band: "When the tickets went on sale and we sold out so fast, we were all shocked. You know, we couldn't believe it that fans in other cities were petitioning to get us to go to their cities, and we had to add, like, another 40 shows. So it's very amazing."

Neil promised that the Crue's new stageshow would be a "circus," and Tommy Lee said the traditional drum kit stunt during his solo spot would be fittingly outrageous: "I guess I can honestly say this is hands down one of the most dangerous ones. I was telling somebody about it the other night, and they're like, 'Dude, are you out of your mind? You could die!' And I was like, well, yeah, that's kind of the whole, you know, that's what makes it exciting."

The Crüe plays its first mainland U.S. date on Thursday in Sunrise, Florida. Dates are booked into May, and the group expects to be on the road well into 2006.

In other Crüe news, a former girlfriend is suing guitarist Mick Mars for $10 million, saying he pledged to take care of her for the rest of her life. Mars (real name Bob Deal) and the woman, documentary filmmaker Robin Mantooth, split up in December, with the guitarist denying that he made that promise. Mantooth is seeking half of Mars' property, a monthly allowance and damages.

I don't know if you an access my iTunes. I think I can post my play lists on line, and then you can purchase the songs, if you want, but that is about it.

If you were on my computer network, I remember reading that I can share my songs on my network. But I do not think you can access them over the internet.

More Than 1 In 10 U.S. Adults Have An IPod

TechWeb - More than 22 million U.S. adults have an iPod or an MP3 player, with men more likely than women to be carrying the digital music devices, according to the Pew Internet and American Life Project.

The number amounts to 11 percent of the U.S. adult population that's 18 years old or older, the research firm said in a report released this week. Taking teenagers into account and it's safe to say there are several million more people carrying the popular iPod from Apple Computer Inc. or a competing MP3 player.

Men are more likely have a music player than women, 14 percent versus 9 percent, respectively; and nearly 1 in 5 people under 30 have the devices, Pew found. Fourteen percent of adults between the ages of 30 to 48 had music players.

The devices were mostly for the well to do. A quarter of the devices were owned by people in households earning more than $75,000, with 10 percent living in households earning $30,000 to $75,000. Households making less than $30,000 accounted for only 6 percent of the devices.

Broadband access was strongly associated with ownership of the players. Some 23 percent of people with broadband at home have iPods/MP3 players, compared to 9 percent of those who have dialup connections. Almost a third of people with broadband access at home and work had the devices.

The Pew research was based on a nationwide phone survey involving 2,201 people and has a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points.

In follow-up to the list cheese101 provided us with recently . . . .

I received this from a friend of mine just a few minutes ago (it is still warm :)

You may not believe this, but there is some truth to the medicinal qualities of Ketchup. The stomach cancer incidence in the USA is very low compared to especially the Far East, and especially Japan. This is the result of our use of Ketchup, whereas that is unheard of in Japan and other countries in the Far East. What does Ketchup have to do with it, you may ask? Ketchup contains antioxidants that prevent stomach cancer! Maybe the Japanese should start putting Ketchup on their sushi! ... That's the truth, believe it or not!

(In a smart guy kind of voice) - koyto? why should we be involved, we have saved the world many times (1898, WWI, WWII, Korea, Iraq I and II, ect ect). If we want to make a mess of the world we protect - we should be able to do so, and you (the rest of the world) should be grateful that we have protected you and should allow us to do as we wish.

Ok - rant over

But really - we should do our part to protect our world - recycle, better energy sources, pollution control, ect - but that costs money, which would increase the cost we pay for our goods and services - oh, what are we to do?

What about the police calendar posted earlier today? that has Satriani songs playing in the background

Cellular Companies Aim to Cut Phone Porn

CANNES, France (AP) - Wireless companies are under pressure to police the services they carry amid mounting concern that today's increasingly versatile cell phones can be gateways to a lot more than football highlights and pop videos.

As governments and parent groups wake up to the problems posed by an expected global boom in mobile pornography and gambling, a few operators are taking action to restrict such content to over-18s.

"We've learned from fixed-line (Internet) that if you leave it too late the genie gets out of the bottle," said Al Russell, head of content services for Vodafone UK.

Parent Vodafone Group PLC, which has operations in 26 countries, backed voluntary age checks and content filtering in Britain and is urging partners and rivals to avoid heavy-handed regulation by supporting similar moves elsewhere in the world.

Russell was speaking at the annual 3GSM World Congress on the French Riviera, which ends Thursday. This year, the four-day mobile industry gathering was abuzz with the arrival of a plethora of third-generation phones and services offering speedy connections to a widening array of multimedia content.

Alongside the handset makers displaying their "3G" handsets in Cannes, there were almost twice as many content exhibitors listed as last year — companies from Anxa Europe, an interactive software developer, to the self-explanatory XXX Providers.

Under voluntary British rules drawn up with groups including the National Family and Parenting Institute, wireless networks bar adult services to new handsets by default and lift the restrictions only after receiving proof that the user is 18 or over.

Industry initiatives are also under discussion in the United States and France, while Germany already has statutory rules and the Australian government has published a draft bill it plans to introduce in parliament.

Attempts to label and filter content for global consumption remain fraught with technical and civil liberties problems, as well as cultural differences. Even within the industrialized world, some countries are much less tolerant of explicit imagery than others.

Not far from the beachfront auditorium where Russell spoke, at a booth in the exhibit hall, a French company named 1633 Publishing was showing off its licensed Playboy phone content and celebrating its recent acquisition of the exclusive global rights to distribute Pamela Anderson (news - web sites) images over mobiles.

At the next booth, Andreas Adami of Italy's Princess Productions was talking visitors through the pornographic film maker's lucrative sideline in mobile screensavers, videos and other content.

"We also have wallpapers and some spicy cartoons, even for younger people.... Bikini babes, lingerie, non-nude stuff," Adami said, holding up a demo phone. On the screen, five carefully chosen frames from one of the Milan-based company's productions ticked over in an endless loop.

Adami said there was no doubt 3G networks will be fertile ground for the porn industry as handsets with full video-streaming capability become more commonplace.
