What's the difference between a southern zoo and a northern zoo?

A southern zoo has a description of the animal on the front of the cage along with... "a recipe".

Yeah - when it is 0 degrees for a while and you get use to the temperature - it can be down right balmy once in a while - especially when shoveling snow, ect.

Joe - - - thanks for stopping by today. I hope the music creation process is going well.

My driveway is concrete - but in very poor shape - every spring I end up with stones in my grass as well. Maybe next year we will replace the driveway. Prior owners did not take good care of the driveway (or it was not done well in the first place - not sure).

Adware is the pits :(

Adware really stinks. I got it on my old computer (which wasn't very fast to start with anymore) and it just bogged it down.

I have a friend who got one recently - now her keyboard doesn't work, nor can you click on any of the icons - makes the computer into an expensive paper weight or dust collector.

Kiss rocking the nation with live DVD

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Make-up clad rock icons Kiss will on December 13 release a double-disc concert DVD, "Rock the Nation Live!," which aims to distinguish itself from countless Kiss videos on the market with an abundance of rare songs and special features.

Taped in summer 2004 in Washington, D.C., and Virginia Beach, the Image Entertainment release features core members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons flanked by guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer.

"We were playing a lot of songs that Kiss hadn't played in years, or haven't played at all," Thayer told Billboard.com. "One day, Doc McGhee, the manager, came into the dressing room, and said, 'We really need to film and record this show, because it's so good. It's probably the best Kiss performance I've seen.' So we said, 'OK.' That was the spark that got the whole thing going."

"Rock the Nation Live!" boasts the "Kiss Powervision/Select-A-Kiss" option to hone in on an individual member as well as candid behind-the-scenes vignettes.

"At any moment, a viewer can choose what they want to see, and use different camera angles," Stanley said. "So if you happen to have the good taste to see me, you can watch pretty much solely that. It's really your mix and your version of the show. I don't think we can forget that the band is really in peak form, and that's really shown on this DVD."

Stanley said he was thrilled to air out such Kiss oldies as "Christine Sixteen," "She" and "Parasite" during the tour.

"To be able to go out and play every and any Kiss song was very freeing," he enthuses. "We reached a point where a lot of the tours after the reunion tour were virtually the same set list, and it wasn't because we didn't want to play other songs. Once Tommy and Eric came in, on any given night, we could change the show, and really dig deep into our catalog. A band that's been together this long not only should be able to play 'Rock and Roll All Nite' and 'Love Gun,' but (also) 'Two Timer' or 'Got To Choose."'

Still, fans continue to await a vault-clearing visual release, a project that Stanley said is closer to reality than ever before.

"Yesterday was the beginning of planning really the ultimate Kiss experience," he said. "That Scorsese/Dylan piece ('No Direction Home: Bob Dylan') was eye opening, at least to me, in terms of how you can be immersed in a time capsule, and not only see the music and be part of the crowd, but also get a sense of who Dylan was then. There are times when I'm much more interested in actual footage of somebody in the moment than somebody reminiscing 20 or 30 years later. It's fascinating to see where somebody was at, and what their mindset was in the midst of storm, as opposed to looking back on it. That set a really high bar, and I think that is more likely our approach at this point."

For now, it is unknown when Kiss may return to the road. "There's definitely talk," Stanley said. "I had a hip replacement a year ago, and that unfortunately didn't go as well as it should have, and they did it again, and that also didn't go as well as it should have. So the recovery from that has been longer, although about six weeks ago we did a corporate show for 15,000 people, in Columbus, Ohio. The band is as good and ready to go as ever. The difference is that I have to make sure that I can commit 100% of my energy for a tour, and not just a show."

Coldplay gearing up for 2006 tour

NEW YORK (Billboard) - British rock band Coldplay will return to North America for a spring 2006 tour, beginning January 25 in Vancouver.

Set to run through early April, the trek is gradually being unveiled on the Web site http://www.talkthetour.com, where a new show is confirmed for every 33,000 hits. About half of the 26 shows have been announced to date.

Fans who register with the site will have the opportunity to win a phone call from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, front row seats to a show and tickets to the 2006 Grammys, which take place in Los Angeles.

The tour comes in support of Coldplay's third Capitol album, "X&Y," which debuted in May at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 2.3 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The band proved a major draw in North America this summer, grossing more than $23 million from 34 shows reported to Billboard Boxscore, including 16 sell-outs.

Coldplay is in the midst of a European jaunt that concludes December 21 in Belfast. After the North American tour next year, the band has scheduled 10 shows in Australia in June and July.

As for the Sony issues - the protection is on the new G3 CD - it was a pain to have the songs downloaded into my computer so that I could get them onto my iPod.

You had to use the Sony software, download the songs, burn to a new CD, then import the new CD into iTunes to transfer the songs into the iPod.

Took 4 days of working with Sony to get it all sorted out.

Sony can be difficult at times - the rootkits - what a sneaky ploy.

Here in the States - for now, they are not illegal - will take time to make them so - but by then, there will be a different way to do the same thing.

Baby Bear goes downstairs and sits in his small chair at the table, he looks into his small bowl. It is empty. "Who's been eating my porridge?!!" he squeaks.

Papa Bear arrives at the big table and sits in his big chair. He looks into his big bowl, and it is also empty. "Who's been eating my Porridge?!!" he roars.

Momma Bear puts her head through the serving hatch from the kitchen and yells, "How many times do we have to go through this with you idiots? It was Momma Bear who got up first, it was Momma Bear who woke everyone in the house, it was Momma Bear who made the coffee, it was Momma Bear who unloaded the dishwasher from last night, and put everything away, it was Momma Bear who went out in the cold early morning air to fetch the newspaper, it was Momma Bear who set the damn table, it was Momma Bear who put the friggin cat out, cleaned the litter box, and filled the cat's water and food dish, and, now that you've decided to drag your sorry bear-asses downstairs, and grace Momma Bear's kitchen with your grumpy presence, listen good, cause I'm only going to say this one more time.

"I HAVEN'T MADE THE DAMN PORRIDGE YET !!"

Viruses Exploit Sony CD Copy-Protection

SAN JOSE, Calif. - A controversial copy-protection program that automatically installs when some Sony BMG audio CDs are played on personal computers is now being exploited by malicious software that takes advantage of the antipiracy technology's ability to hide files.

The Trojan horse programs — three have so far been identified by antivirus companies — are named so as to trigger the cloaking feature of Sony's XCP2 antipiracy technology. By piggybacking on that function, the malicious programs can enter undetected, security experts said Thursday.

"This could be the advanced guard," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at the security firm Sophos. "We wouldn't be surprised at all if we saw more malware that exploits what Sony has introduced."

The copy protection program is included on about 20 popular music titles, including releases by Van Zant and The Bad Plus, and disclosure of its existence has raised the ire of many in the computing community, who consider it to constitute spyware.

Sony BMG Music Entertainment and the company that developed the software, First 4 Internet, have claimed that the technology poses no security threat. Still, Sony posted a patch last week that uncloaks files hidden by the software.

On Thursday, Sony released a statement "deeply regretting any disruption that this may have caused." It also said it was working with Symantec and other firms to ensure any content-protection technology "continues to be safe."

Neither Sony spokesman John McKay nor First 4 Internet CEO Mathew Gilliat-Smith returned messages seeking additional comment.

Windows expert Mark Russinovich discovered the hidden copy-protection technology on Oct. 31 and posted his findings on his Web log. He noted that the license agreement that pops up said a small program would be installed, but it did not specify it would be hidden.

Manual attempts to remove the software can disable the PC's CD drive. Sony offers an uninstallation program, but consumers must request it by filling out two forms on the Internet.

"What they did was not intentionally malicious," Cluley said. "If anything, it was slightly inept."

The copy-protection software, which Sony says is a necessary "speed bump" to limit how many times a CD is copied, only works on Windows-based PCs. Users of Macintosh and Linux computers are not restricted.

The viruses also only target Windows-based machines.

The infection opens up a backdoor, which could be used to steal personal information, launch attacks on other computers and send spam, antivirus companies said.

Sony also is facing legal headaches. On Nov. 1, Alexander Guevara filed suit in Los Angeles County Superior Court seeking class action staus. He claims Sony's actions constituted fraud, false advertising, trespass and violated state and federal laws barring malware and computer tampering.

His attorney, Alan Himmelfarb, did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation, an online civil liberty group, said it is hearing from people who have run into problems with the copy protection software. It is considering filing its own lawsuit, said EFF staff attorney Jason Schultz.

"You can't uninstall it, you can't find it, and it's vastly more invasive in terms of privacy and personal property than any other (digital rights management) program to date," he said.

Joe

Thank you for responding to my post about the the copyright protection. I understand completely where you were coming from. You need to see a return on your investment of time. As for me, I am not out on the street making copies of CDs to give away. I purchase CDs and upload them onto my iPod. As you are probably aware, Apple and some companies (Sony) do not always play nice and make it difficult on each other.

I understand the artists right to make money and enjoy the fruits of their labor. However, some companies (Sony) may be leaving computers vunerable to attack - without us knowing it.

In their defense, in my matter, Sony was helpful (took 3 days though) in instructing me how to upload the G3 CD onto my iPod - it takes a few steps and a little bit of time - but as always, was very much worth it.

There are those out there who borrow CDs, make copies or upload onto their computer and then make countless copies. I have made a copy here and there, but it is for my car - one for the car and keep the original at home or at work.

All in all, thank you again for responding and I would imagine most of us here at T2J are purchasing music legitimately (at least most of the time - since I cannot speak for everyone).

Keep up the great work !!!

Genesis Reunion?

Original Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel says he intends to talk with his former bandmates about bringing the group back together. "The odds [of Genesis reuniting] are better now than before," he declares. However, Gabriel insists that it's too early to tell whether the band actually will regroup. "I wouldn't put money on it . . . yet," he warns. Ex-Genesis singer-drummer Phil Collins said in a recent interview that he's willing to participate in a reunion event.

'WWE Smackdown!' Star Guerrero Dies

MINNEAPOLIS - Eduardo Gory Guerrero, a World Wrestling Entertainment superstar was found dead in his hotel room Sunday in Minneapolis, where he was scheduled to appear that evening in a WWE Supershow. He was 38.

When he didn't respond to a wake-up call, hotel security at Minneapolis Marriott City Center and Guerrero's nephew and fellow WWE wrestler, Chavo Guerrero, forced their way into the room, police said.

There were no apparent signs of foul play or suicide, police said. An autopsy was planned at the Hennepin County medical examiner's office.

He was a featured star on the UPN series "WWE Smackdown!" and son of Mexican wrestler Gory Guerrero.

Chavo Guerrero and McMahon said Guerrero was open about his past drug and alcohol abuse but they said he'd been sober for four years.

In February 2004, Guerrero became the second wrestler of Hispanic heritage to be WWE champion when he defeated Brock Lesnar, a former University of Minnesota wrestling standout. Guerrero lost the title four months later.

In May 2004, UPN aired the special "Cheating Death, Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story." The one-hour program chronicled his childhood and his struggle with drug addiction that almost cost him his job, family and life before his recovery and eventual capture of the WWE championship.

Do you use iTunes or have an iPod?

The average price for a full CD is $9.99 not $5.

Songs are 99 cents each - some albums cost a bit more - if there are many more songs on the CD.

It is a good deal - but you do not get the satisfaction of holding the CD or reading the booklet. Some songs from iTunes come with a digital booklet you can download.

Typically I still purchase the CD, but if I only want one particular song, I get it from iTunes.

I figured you had an "in" at iTunes and got the "special" discount. I have seen a few CDs for about $5 - but they are only a few songs long.

I am definately old school - I like opening the cd, seeing the artwork on the CD (if any) and reading the booklet.

I love my iPod - it is not quite a year old - but works GREAT.

Got iTunes playing right now - something different today - the Cure. Later on I will switch back to Joe, maybe G3, we will see.
