Hi all, I'm new to this forum, my name's Alex and I'm a 19-year-old music student. I play drums and Joe's music has moved me to all possible emotions during the last 6 months. The first song I heard from Joe was "Why" about 2 years ago and I loved the mixture of emotion and heavines it had. But for some reason I had never listened carefully to the rest of the CD (it was my father's), so it stayed in the CD rack for a long year. When me and my guitarist thought about building a Satch tribute, I got initiated to the other albums (he knew Satch since much longer), through Mind Storm and Up In The Sky, and I was in awe ! I quickly got out my "Extremist" CD thinking : there's gotta be something else good from that guy ! In fact, there was, even more than I expected.

Forward to today. I've bought all of his studio albums plus LISF and I never get tired of hearing the songs over and over again. Joe's magic has hit my CD player forever ! And on the LISF DVD, I came to observe another aspect of drumming, with Jeff, that I didn't not pay attention to before (with my Dream Theater/Planet X background), which is feeling the moment, smiling, that kind of "eyeblink" attitude. I'm amazed by the way Jeff plays with such transparency, passion, humor and tightness at the same time. He changed my approach of drumming.

I saw Joe live for the first time in Québec City (Joe, man, that ruled, one hour and a half was not enough!!!), and the performance blew me away ! Flying, Crushing, Satch Boogie to open, that was killer. I had already seen Dream Theater before and thought they were the best live band ever, but them playing after you, it seemed like the atmosphere went dead ! You seriously know how to perform on stage ! As does the rest of the band !

As for my tribute band (called Circles), We're doing a pre-show (a part of our complete setlist) next month, in order to get ourselves known throughout our college. Now let me get this clear : we are not trying to be Joe or pretending to have reached his level. We just want to have fun while honoring some of the best music on this planet. Here's the small set :

War, Crushing Day, Crystal Planet,

Love Thing, The Extremist

Flying In A Blue Dream, Cool #9

Always With Me, Always With You, Satch Boogie, Time

Encore : Circles, Summer Song

It was damn hard choosing only 12 songs, but want to keep some surprises for our following shows (Mystical, Devil's, House Full).

evbro - Good idea ! No really, there are so many songs we'd like to see, that we'd have to sacrifice some of the classics. Imagine Lights Of Heaven, Killer Bee Bop and.... what 's the name of that song again... Slick ??? played live ! Awesome (this would be).

So that's my introduction story so you could get to know me a little bit. I'm sure I'll get along fine with you guys. Happy Joe Sat listening !

As for my fav Satch tones :

The self titled album ESPECIALLY on Luminous ! The beginning gives a whole buffet of different sounds ! And when the meloddy kicks in : wondeful ! And that low bend during the silent string part is killer !

On the Extremist CD, the first 3 notes of the Friends melody give me the chills !

And most of the Crystal Planet (Love Thing ! Wahhhaw!) and SBM (Especially in The Traveller and Mountain Song).

To sum up he's been sounding better and better through the years, though the first albums are also excellent ! Joe is the best sounding guitarist in my opinion !
