lalimacefolle, Ron Thal is brilliant...in Paris a few months ago, after hearing only a snipit of a Thal solo without a backing track, I was asked by a journalist who didn't like my new CD why I didn't play more like Ron, but my comments were paraphrased to look mean spirited. I sent Ron an email to let him know that the quotes do not reflect my feelings on his musicianship. And I've invited him to jam with us at a G3 show if it can be arranged...wouldn't that be cool?!!...
...oh yeah, I'm back from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand, and jetlagged, but ready for a week of rehearsals...Joe

Chuck T., I've had the same issue with the dot inlays being too figured and dark; they are almost impossible to see on stage during low light moments. Getting something like that changed on all the 1200's requires a change at the factory in Japan, which takes quite a bit of time unfortunately. I mentioned this to Ibanez last year and asked them to stop using the beautiful mother of pearl look in favor of a simpler and brighter dot. So, we'll wait and see. In the mean time, try calling the Ibanez custom shop in LA 818 764-2100, they may be able to help....Joe

Thank you all so very much for the "get well" messages, I believe they really made a difference. Pneumonia is no fun at all and I don't recommend it to anyone, but hearing from all of you has eased my down time quite a bit. Thank you again. My recovery will hopefully continue and I will get a clean bill of health by the end of the month... I was unable to post a "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" message due to my illness, and as you know had to cancel most of the end of the year tour. Sorry about that. Make-up shows are being booked as I write this... The two shows at the Fillmore seem like a fantastic fever induced dream. Although I could barely breathe, I felt I had to perform as if my life depended on it. Every note was sacred to me. As I played, the tsunami tragedy in South Asia weighed so heavily on my heart. It's still so hard to comprehend the suffering so many people have had to endure. The relief effort will need our continuing support(www.redcross.org)...As well as our troops in Iraq who face incredible danger every day. Let's hope this year will bring some peace to the region, and a home-coming for our troops... This year will see me and the boys heading to Australia, New Zealand and Japan. We are looking into a few European summer festivals as well... Writing for a new record to be finished by the end of the year is also on the calendar... Later this month I will be at the NAMM show to debut a stunning new Ibanez Chrome JS guitar, and an awesome Peavey JSX Combo Amp, with reverb and a half power switch. I'll be stopping by the DiMarzio and D'Addario booths as well... Hope to see some of you there...Joe

...Thank you New Zealand and Australia for a great tour. We wish we could have stayed longer and played a few more cities, maybe next time. Big thanks to all the fans who came to the in-stores we did, it's always good to meet all of you face to face. We return home with nothing but great memories, and a few nice presents we picked up along the way too. G3 down under??? We are already working on it!... Joe

Ned, still in UK? Good to hear from you. It seems there are questions about my live amp set up, here it is: JS1000's into pedal board, old school style, on to the front of a JSX head, high input, by Mike offstage. Mike actually has two heads stacked and ready to switch in case of unforseen problems. I have two delays running in the effects loop as well. A single JSX head powers 2 JSX 4x12 bottoms. Sitting on top of those heads are 2 more JSX back-ups, plugged in, turned on, but, not running any speaker cabs. Sometimes, space permitting, we put a third cabinet on stage. We travel with four. Those of you who have been part of the Platinum package groups have seen this set up when attending sound check and have had a walk on stage. This a mono set up. When out of the USA I use local Peavey JSX gear. Here in Mumbai, where I am today, I will use a local JSX amp and speakers, and leave it here in India when the tour is over. It's a dream come true to have my signature series gear meet me whever I am in the world and always sound so great. Peavey rocks!...Joe

...dw_hbk, the sound on "Rockin' in..." is from a JSX head into two 4x12 Peavey cabs with JSX speakers...I think I was using the Crunch channel for that song... js_js, those things hangin' from my guitar are made by Rubina for me... she made a few different ones for me before the tour, for extra mojo I guess... hersisterwill, that's a cool model, has a unique tone all its own... ...Gotta Have Joe, it's really me, here in Vancouver, recording and posting when time allows...Zinc Master, we are on top of this, but it really sucks...I don't know how this can ever be resolved... If labels and artists feel their investment of time, money, art and talent will always be taken from them without compensation then they will simply stop producing...If consumers continue to feel overcharged, and put out by changing formats, then they will keep taking music without paying fo it... For now we drift somewhere in the middle, but it's hurting young musicians the most... Joe
