Hey Joe, please can I cover "House Full Of Bullets" in a concert? ...........I know, people cover your stuff a lot, but I have to ask this because there's a high probability it's being filmed (if I can arrange everything in time!).

Thanks. oh, when are you coming back to London? laters, Simon

hehe. is Mr Satriani alowed to take part in your mini-quiz?

thanks for the welcome note and advice! I've visited the site numerous times but only just got around to joining the community, mainly because I need to show that I have acklowledged that the track I want to play isn't mine!

Yeah it should be a good, fun show, if I can organise it. it's looking promising so far. And hopefully it's going to be a charity-fund-raising event whereby the (small) entry fees from each peron in attendance will be collected and counted and dispatched to someone worthy!

I'll let you know if and how it works out! Laters people

i don't folllo.w anyhow, I think that Eric Johnson made a fantastic third party for G3, 'cause he is, in one word, fantastic. And I really hope he comes to the Uk this year!

I would really have like to have seen the G3 show with kenny Wayne Shepherd - must have been awesom. And what about Paul Gilbert? When's he coming aboard! I mailed webmaster......I really really need a response on that House Full Of Bullets cover authorisation.

i know you pretty much covered the EJ things but I gotta take the opportunity for some input;

I see so many stupid things said about Eric Johnson. Some magazine/web review writers are full of sh*t and not m,uh else. they make things up about people just because they don't like their music, or haven't heard their music.

If Steve Vai had butchered one of EJ's pieces by shredding over it, Steve Vai probably wouldn't have agreed to publish EJ's latest work on his record label, Favored Nations Entertainment, right?

If Vai ddn't like him he wouldn't have agreed to play in a HUGE concert with him. Similarly, if EJ didn't like Joe and Steve he wouldn't have agreed to play in cocnert with them. people say EJ's hard to work with? how can they say that? have they ever had the opportunity to work with him?

The G3 headphones thing - Tinnitus is a bummer. You also gotta remember that EJ sounds totally different to everything around him. His tone is prominent, and his technique is a little different, so he has NO SPACE TO SCREW UP. Also, over the sounds coming from Joe and Steve's amps, it will be hard for Eric to pick out his own sound, even with monitors.

Playing on stage and getting the monitors to play the same sound the auditorium speakers are playing, is hard work!

Stage presence.......you're probably going by the G3 video. Steve has massive stage presence. EJ is a different kind of player. He trained as a classical pianist so he's not overly used to moving about. the first time I saw it i thought he looked odd, but now I think it's great, cause you can totally focus on what he's playing and you can really feel involved with his sound! It's too nice!

okay. i'm now done ruthlessly defending one of the greatest musicians alive. Hey Joe, say hi to EJ next time you see him! hehe

hehe. i know you weren't slaggin EJ! But I had to express something in his favour.

He doesn't use many effects at all actually! He uses two different amps for his clean and overdriven tones. Overdrive pedal, delay pedal, and he uses a wah pedal as a tone control. that's about it.

He puts 'effects' fills into his album pieces like Venus Isle just to fill it out, but listen to Alien Love Child: Live and Beyond. it's all live, and all without digital samples.

I wasn't having a go at anybody's posts about EJ.......i was having a go at anti-johnson-ism in general.

The White JS1000 was an anniversary model so no, it's not produced any more. that's why they're called LIMITED EDITION. just like the Purple Jem, the Yellow Jem, the Black Beaded Jem, and I guess the Reflective Top Jem will be the next anniversary from Steve. ................................................................................................... Joe, or anybody else who knows: When you played with a 100W marshall Stack what valve-head were you using? I'm guessing the DSL 100? cause I know you used a cornford head when you played in the UK last summer, but if Cornford was in my budget i'd buy a Mesa Boogie!

why does anybody care what order these guys played the G3 gig in? if you were there you were there, so you know what order they played in. If you weren't there and you're just watching/listening to it on DVD/VHS/CD you can just skip or fastforward and have them play in any order you like.

There is a JS Chat forum on this site! I'm sure you all know about it. I can't believe i'm even posting this, when all i wanted to do in the first place was post an important question to JOE so i'm not in breach Bl**dy copyright laws at my next concert!

And I ended up discussing the good things about eric johnson ?!?! Save me!

arrrrgggghhh. Time to go and listen to The Forgotten (2).

Hey leanna, on the G3 CD/DVD/Video, Frank Zappa's "My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Momma" is sung by Steve Vai and Mike Kenealley.

sorry if someone already answered that question, but i couldn't be bothered to trawl through 4 pages of small talk just to gind out

YIPPEE! It's my 10th post! happy 10th anniversary me! ehem. catch my drift?

yeah you spelled Venus Isle absolutely right. And if you have Venus Isle that means that you've heard Lonely In The Night and Pavilion/Venus Reprise. yes, the man is a genius.

Lonely In The Night has THE NICEST SOLO. This being my 10th post, that's a good number to go out on. I did ask about the copyright thing (even e-mailed webmaster) and would have heard a mouse fart before I heard back from anybody important........so........arrest me.

bye peeps

No Eric Johnson doesn't have a signature series because he plays vintage guitars - original 335's and Strats mostly, and you can't have a signature on something 40 years old! So he doesn't need one. Anyway, he has a signature TONE, and that's worth ten signature guitars. okay maybe not ten. perhaps seven. hehe.

Joe come to the Charring Cross Astoria - GOOD CALL. Shepherds Bush Empire last summer was cool, but I think the Astoria is a slightly nicer venue - easier to get to as well, cause you can park at Heathrow and get the train pretty much to the front door.

yeah Lights Of Heaven does seem kind of fitting doesn't it?

One has to feel sorry for the families of the 7 pioneers killed yesterday, as well as the other NASA pilots who were meant to fly Discovery and Atlantis in the next few years. The internationl space station and mars probe projects are going to have been severely damaged. One has to feel sorry for the two remaining shuttles themselves! Sounds crazy, but think of what they have accomplished. They have been blasted at stupid speeds against stupid forces to give us more information about the space we live in, and their future of doing the same hangs in the ballance as NASA decides whether to decommission them and build new, or spend ten years making sure they are going to work safely.

Look at Steve Vai's postcards from late last year - he talked in December about being invited to go and see one of Joe's gigs, and something Steve said was that he is always amazed by Joe's improvisation, and that he is perfect proof that with age comes experience, and with experience comes expression - Steve truly believes that Joe is always getting better, and i'm not going to argue. I have tried nothing of Steve's that I haven't liked, so i'm certainly going to trust him on this one.

hehe. ollyno1 you say you're from Wimborne? weehee, i'm from just the other side of Blandford. I used to go to QE school! I would say small world, but the chances of living close to another Satch fan and not knowing it are high since he's such a GOD.

Two nights in a row at the Astoria? that would be great. make it happen. Steve did three nights, so surely Joe could do the same?

Joe play Russia? Totally! Formula One hopefully comes to Moscow next year. Joe could open the weekend by playing Thursday and Friday evenings, but not too late because the drivers need their sleep!

New album? since it's only six months since the last one, seems unlikely. Also he's just started touring - although an ulbum could be made on the road - Engines Of Creation was.

Consider my signature added to your Joe Play Astoria petition.

Did someone say the Charring Cross Astoria is closing? What better way to say a fond farewell than to have a G3 gig there? hehe. but itain't gonna happen, what with Steve being so busy with his new album and everything, and we'd never agree on who we'd want as the third member (Eric Johnson) would we?!

if i spray my frettboard with WD40 and spark it how much damage do you reckon it'll do? it'll just scorch the strings as long as I brush it out quickly, won't it?

you want some acoustic vai? Melissas Garden, from the Seventh Song Archives Volume One album, and Brando's Costumes (Gentle Ways) from Alive In An Ultra World.

but there isn't any vai that's easy.

why would I want to set fire to my strings? it's a stage thing. it'll look good on film! Don't worry, i'm not one for trashing guitars. i'm very careful. I wouldn't set fire to my Jem tho! just my GIO, hehe. and that's why i'd brush it out quick before it damages the frettboard - the strings don't matter, cause they'll come off after the show anyway.

but do you reckon it would work, in principal? it's meant to just look cool - you know, playing a shred solo so fast that it sets light to the strings! hehe. I'll have to practice hiding the lighter.

everyone is being really rude about this Astoria thing. Hey, it takes me as long to get there as it takes you guys, but I still respect it as a Venue. I don't expect Joe Satriani to come play on my doorstep, so i make a compromise and ask that he plays at the sort of place that he's likely play to anyway!

give us a break. we're only trying to show the council what they're throwing away!

well that's an interesting list, but there's names missing from it. It depends what you want out of the big get together.

But there's some there i'd write off, and definitely some to add. Where's Paul Gilbert? Nuno Battencourt? Jenniffer Batten? Steve Lukather? KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD?

hey Chat, this is hardly the place for racism. Joe isn't exactly going to be impressed.

Go60: Your names list is an interesting one. I recognise all the names, but haven't heard many of them. yes, people can have a very narrow, secluded point of view about what is good and what isn't, but that is their opinion.

Anybody else heard of Igor Bellsky? Didn't think so. better than Malmsteen, in my opinion.

I didn't check out the link to matt's thing, or any of the links anyone else posted - mainly 'cause I don't have time.

you can get a song copyrighted by recording it onto a disc or tape, then post it to yourself with the copyright logo and information written on it, then archive it. Honestly, that's legal.

don't know much about VST, other than it's highly complex but really really cool when you properly know hw to use it. Like Photoshop in that respect! I do know that the sound card you have can affect how well it works? What is your card? Sound Blaster Live! will be fine.

why's everyone flaming me? I don't get it.......you're all implying I said something but I dunno what.

yeah the Live In San Francisco DVD is so great! I got the Dream Theater DVD the other day - the scenes from New York one, or whatever it's called (cn't even remember!) - and I thought it was pretty bad. What does everyone else think who's seen it?

I don't like Korn either, and I think Joe is more deserving of awards than they are, but that's just my opinion. Some of us like them, and that's fair enough. I think it's cool that Steve helped them to develope the U-bar on their K7.

Oh, anybody know if joe is having the JS7 made into a production model? I really want one, but if it doesn't get the go-ahead I guess it'll have to be a Universe. hehe

Viktor Nyiro - you should have a look on Ebay. there's half a chance that someone is selling a promotional poster on there. Yeah, it's a nice graphic. [hr[ What was that question about why Joe is bald? hehe. I think he looks well cool with his hair off and his shades on........Oakley's, right?
Happy 16th birthday!
About Dream Theater - the only album of their's I have is Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence - what others would any of you recommend? Also, has anybody heard any of Paul Gilbert's solo work? what's it like? is it poppy or shreddy? I hope the latter! I like his hard playing. and I love his guitar!

ovation1: Thanks for the Paul Gilbert info. That goes with what I have heard from someone else - that RacerX was real shreddy, then Mr Big got a bit poppy, then his solo stuff is very poppy! hehe. I might check out RacerX next then. I just got Mr Big: Big, Bigger, Best or whatever it's called! can't even remember, but some of it's really good!
Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence is such a good album. I think the solo to Goodnight Kiss is so good - it sounds like someone crying. the lyrics are quite harsh too!
interesting to see what people make of locking trems - I love the good ones. I have a good one on my Jem, but I have seen cheaper, bad ones on things like RGs and Jacksons................anyone here got a JS2000? wassit like?
