Ollyno1, mate, do you know which area of the terrace rows CC and BB are in? I hope it's not right over to one side, up against a wall or an emergency exit or something. Tell me nearer the time what seat number you have and I'll see if I can see you!

My sister is going to the one in London too, and called me today and asked if I want to go! cool! 2 G3 concerts in 3 days! with Toto on the night in between!

Shred 777, are you a Vai fan, by any chance?! welcome to t2j! I agree with the others - the more you know the more windows it opens, but practice is the important thing - Joe was in a large way self-taught, so I guess he did a lot of figuring-out-for-himself. Mix learning for yourself with learning from a teacher and you'll find it really good!
TASTEY, good luck with home-seeking! I think the cost thing is all relative to the average earnings of an area. People tend to earn a lot in Boston, for example, but then it costs lots to live there. Same as London, same as a lot of places actually! hehe. London isn't a patch on Boston tho - Boston is the dog's bollocks, it's so nice!

trutina/miranda, best regards to both of you. Miranda, i'm not at all religious either, but I do send my best wishes to bil. I'm really sorry to hear he had such a bad hit against the new treatment, i've seen similar things happen before and i know it's frustrating to know that the drugs can actually make things worse.

I haven't been here that long and have not had the pleasure of talking with bil much, but it is abundantly clear that he is part of the t2j 'inner circle' - he is one of those who everyone looks up to, who everyone likes to see hear and who everyone likes to hear from, and I hope we don't have to wait too long before bil posts to us all again.

If he is still in a coma then I hope he can hear you, so he can hear you give him everyone's best regards from the messageboard! I'm sure we are all agreed!

What is his favourite song/tune of Joe's? Do you know?

ollyno1, I just ordered 2 more tickets! ahh! Someone else do the sums on what 13 tickets at £29 costs me! hehe

Dude, thanks for telling me about where those seats are! I'm happier now! oh and thanks for the link to the seating plan. the numbers are kinda hard to read but I get the idea!

sheldyboy11, do you think think that joe getting the Sars virus would do justice to his career? It may be a 1% risk or whatever it has come down to, but traveling is largely governed by airlines, travel agencies and immigrations offices, and there will be a lot of officials recommending that people don't travel to certain places at certain times.

I'm sure joe will want to make a trip to india when it makes sense for him to do so.

JS JS, hell yeah! I'm going to see G3 right here in rainy, almost freezing, windy, grumpy england and it's gonna rule! twice! hehe, i'm a lucky boy, my sister got me a ticket for the london show after I got tickets for us to go to bournemouth!

Yeah, every G3 tour that cames around (starting from the most recent tour onwards) I'll be voting for The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3! it's my favourite tune of Joe's.....it just has so much, and I think it would create such an amazing atmosphere played live! I can't believe he hasn't done it already!

Museman, yeah Joe will almost definitely tour on "Is There Love In Space?" he did that with the SBM album 2 when it came out.....and besides, a solo tour is easier to organise than a G3 tour so it widens his possibilities for places to go to.
Greyfox, about the disguise thing, I think a giant fruit suit would work well!
imjon, Smooth.Mother.F*ck*r. which is a shame cuz if it was smart.mother.f*ck*r. it would surely show us that Joe is a Pulp Fiction fan! hehe, awesome movie
wow, it's quite amazing to see the great response from everyone here, regarding Bil's health and the best wishes we all have for him. It's really nice to see that this place is so civilised!
On a heavier note, my best regards go out to the Spanish as well this evening. In case not everybody knows, 13 bombs were detonated in a railway station in Madrid. Thus far, 200 deaths and 1000 injuries have been reported; expect more. Initially it was thought that the attack had been carried out by ETA (not you eta, the terrorist group ETA that occuppies Spain!) but this evening's reports say that it is now thought that Al Quaida (spelling mistake?!) was responsible, tho I don't know what real evidnece they have to support this.

Anyhow, a lot of innocent people have, again, died in a tragic event of spineless, pathetic, half-assed terrorism organised by people who are too f*ck*ng scared to organise their own proper conflict. If Al Quai-media or whatever it's called was responsible for this, it blatantly shows who is the weaker part of society. if it was someone else then....well, the same applies really!

JS JS, hehe, yeah I can play the beginning of The Forgotten (Part 2) as well, but like you, just leave the maestro to it when it comes to the solo. I know I can't play it properly and I really need to learn some stuff, and fast. But hey, all it takes is practice! if you can find out the process behind different techniques, you can practice it!

Ya Yo Gakk, RESPECT to the fellow Pulp Fiction fan! It's the best, and Samuel L is the coolest guy I've ever seen in that movie! hehe. "Say what one more time mother-fucker. I dare ya. I double dare ya!"
SupaaDave, I hear you bro. On Osama killing innocents then going and hiding in a cave for ever......kinda pathetic! Any big kid can pull that stunt. It takes someone with 'big cojones' to actually stand up and say they did it. 'covert' terrorism is the weakest form of power-hunger on earth, and I too would love to get in front of a room full of followers and tell them how 'chickenshit' they all are!

enough venting from me too!

UF Dean, well I'm sure Panama FL is lovely! hehe. damn, I'd love to go to Panama City tho....I dunno why, it just tempts me. I'd love to take a cruise through the canal then disembark at Panama City. One day perhaps!
zappafrank, I sincerely hope that they cover "Sexual Harrassment In The Workplace" some day, that would be so cool!
OCPS470, thanks for the mail...I'll download it in a just a second!

amendment to my post of yesterday evening - I now understand the 13 bombs were detonated in 3 different train stations. Whatever, it was still wrong and a very sad day for our 'civilised modern world that we live in'....yeah right.

OCPS470, just listened to 'Clearwater', and am now listening again. it's a nice tune, tho not my kinda vocal style. anyway, which tone are you curious about? the acoustic tone or the background tone?

The background tone is great, pretty subtle, but it has a slightly retro vibe.....sounds like the sort of thing EJ would use in the background! As for the main rhythmn tone, I think it needs to be crisper, more like Dr Vai's acoustic tone - quite latin in a way, where the bass strings give a real 'boiyoing' sound. But that's just my opinion! hehe, either way, the whole thing has great tone. This Fender amp business is really quite interesting.....there's no denying they sound nice!

funkymunky was yours, right? just listened to that again as well.....what a cool tune!

Austin, Ben and Jerry's is the muts' nuts! I'f you're in the market for Ice Cream, B&J's is surely what you gotta go for! hehe. I love Phish Food!

Ben & Jerry's for G3!

Yoda, bournemouth shouldn't cost you too much from Guildford! It costs £31 to get to London-Waterloo from Salisbury or Poole so it should be less from where you are. You gotta go see G3 man........anyhow, the Bournemouth show will be great, it's such a good venue!
is there Ben & Jerry's in space?
SupaaDave, dude you really need to check out amazon or stevie's website more often! You gotta get you that Live At The Astoria DVD - if you liked his G3 set you will absolutely love it! it's pretty lengthy too!

trutina, WELCOME BACK BIL!!!! we all missed you loads. I'm so pleased to hear you're awake. I know I don't know you much and don't talk to you much here on t2j (no reason....just coinsidence!) but I, like everyone else, have been really optimistic about reading a message from you soon!

Dude, you are one f*ing funny guy, I'll certainly make a point of looking out for you in future! I love the way you handled that interviewer, classic! I won't write too much now cuz I would guess you're feeling pretty drowsy! Is you're throat starting to rehydrate yet? I hope you're feeling better with every passing hour, and keep resting! Thanks loads for talking to us all and letting us know you're ok! Take it easy!

Miranda, thanks for keeping us updated on Bil's progress. He's obviously a very lucky guy, not only to be awake with the rest of us again, but to have you looking after him. When you're not both sleeping make sure you play some Satch nice and loud - you never know, the others in the ward may hear it in their 'sleep' and feel like they are Flying In A Blue Dream!

Oh and hey, when things are more 'back to normal', so to speak, and you have some free time, feel free to join the community here or keep posting under Bil's user-name...it's great to hear from you!

Warm regards to you both. I'm certain we are all thinking of you!!

SupaaDave, I think you spelled pretentious right! hehe, well I understood it anyway. yeah I have to agree. I think people who don't understand him or just hear a few of his songs think he must be an arrogant bastard, but these are the people who just happen to miss the subtlety in his work, his graciousness (spelling?! haha) and things like his 'journal' entries on his website.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll love the DVD. I haven't got it yet but I was at the second show that was filmed for it, and it was mind-blowing.

I always feel kinda bad when I say things like that about Steve cuz this is Joe's message board! hehe, Joe you're amazing too! Your SBM gig in London was the second gig I ever went to....actually no, the 3rd, cuz I went to see Billy Joel at Wembley when I was about 5!

Joe knows how to put on an amazing show, and the atmosphere is something that you unfortunately can't pick out on a DVD.

Joeman, Joe is 3 years older than Steve, and 3 years younger than Mr Eric Johnson! Sorry, SIR Johnson!
jelly man, dude you got some good seats there. 3 rows up so you can see over the people on the flat floor, and you're fairly close to the middle! I have tickets for rows B and D in the 16/17 area, and row C in 63 to 71! Me and my mates are thinking of making some massive banner to take....any suggestions!

it would be cool if I bump into you there!

actually, that's a good question - anybody got any ideas of what would make a cool banner for a G3 gig? hehe. I promise we won't hold it up all night, obscuring the view for the next 10 rows behind us!

How about "Giant fruit suits for G3!"?

StringG, I would guess around 40-something Euros....a little over 40 I think. That's just a guess, based on the ticket price here in the UK, and the current exchange rate!
weonlywonfiveone, good luck with your first gig. You will love it. Don't treat it any different to the way you treat a practise session, cuz people are there to see you/hear you play, not watch you act. Stay realxed, have fun, and try and be expressive. Face your audience even if you can't look at them all the time.........they don't want to see your back, and don't hunch up round your guitar/bass/mic stand/drum kit (i'm guessing you're a guitarist).......I've seen so many people do that when they start playing a solo and it takes their stage presence down to about 10%.

Enjoy!

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
edit: Guitarcake, yeah I'm going to the b'mouth show. check my post to jelly man for details.

also I forgot to mention that my seats are in the front terrace!

Ovation1, hell yeah, a skyliner would be cool! I'd have to have it saying either "Fruit Suits For G3!" or The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3! hehe

Hows the Jem, sensai? is it okay?

hey Joe/Jon, the new backdrop to the t2j satch-scape is interesting, but I gotta say I prefer the old one. I'm sure this will grow on me though....it's just not quite as classy-looking. Not to say it looks sluttish.....hehehe.
Matt Martinez, yeah I always find I play best at about 10 at night, which is a real pisser cuz that's when the volume thing could start to annoy the neighbours! hehe
Eddy C, welcome, and keep voting for The Forgotten (Part 2) cuz it is an amazing, underrated, beautiful tune which I will see/hear played live! It's my mission.......actually it's my secondary mission. My primary is to watch Eric Johnson play "Lonely In The Night" and then go say 'hi' to him afterwards.
Jazzy Boy, you need to have a talk with Eric Sardinas? i'm intrigued, do you like him or really dislike him? I think he's realy cool, and he puts on an amazing show!

Damn right about Eric Johnson...he has the sound of the gods. I think he is WAAAYYYY better than a lot of people!

Yoda, Technical Difficulties? Ouch! my 2 cents - you didn't wanna do that mate! hehe
Clarky, speaking of doing crazy things with stupid songs, myself and a mate of mine (who is a pianist) took "Hall Of The Mountain King" and threw it into swing-time, and thus, Hall Of The Mountain Swing was engineered. It sounds dead cool, as does a rock-ed-up version of Pachabel's 'Cannon', so Orchestral 'My Old Man's a Refuse Disposal Technician' would probably work quite nicely! hehe
michelle, haha, when I saw "You are 962" i thought "that's a bit rude! I mean, we are all getting a little older but jeez, no need to be harsh about it!"
trutina, hey Bil and Miranda, hope you're both ok and you've been resting properly!

Ethn, you met Eric Sardinas? cool! I bet that was interesting!

Trutina, Welcome home Bil! Hope you enjoyed your meal! Take it easy dude
Jon, I really like the feature that you added for the newbies - the 5-day thing. That is an excellent idea. It also helps those of us who visit from different machines, especially if they don't store cookies!

the stylised font on the new tabs is nice too! I still miss the old background to the message 'table', but all-in-all the changes are cool.

VLJ, er, are you in the market just for buying an amp with somebody's name on it? The Legacy and JSX are different animals, so you should think more about what functions, features and vibes you want out of it, but most of all you should think about what sound you want!

I would advise waiting until the JSX becomes available. cuz you ought to try out different amps and see what sound you like best. The price bracket covers the JSX, the XXX, the Legacy, the Laney VH100, probably a Hughes & Kettner if you add another hundred-or-two, Marshall, although I wouldn't advise that, and a Fender.

museman, i'm sure there's various reasons for wearing sunglasses on stage, but I can tell you that I prefer to wear 'em cause the lights are so bloody bright. if someone puts a follow-spot on you, you can't see anything, which isn't always a problem, but if you walk about you could trip over cables and monitors, and you can't see your audience either!
Lukewaller, regards stage presence - watch a Vai DVD (G3 96 or 03 would suffice) and it will show you everything you need! Or check out the Toto 25th anniversary DVD, live in Holland........Steve Lukather has great stage presence too. You just gotta be expressive and look at people!
jelly man, inspector gadget? I always feel that it slightly takes the piss cuz it gets all there credit where "In The Hall...." should surely get it! hehe. sounds interesting tho.....a tune based off a mathematical sequence? intigueing!
tjplaw43, welcome to planet satch! Yeah a lot of us are very familiar with "Cliffs Of Dover". I personally think that "Zap" is marginally better, but both are amazing. Tho neither of them beat Mr Johnson's "Lonely In The Night" - that is my favourite song, and my favourite piece of music by EJ. The man is amazing, and I really hope he makes a return to G3 some day!
The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
Anybody else checked out those little Hughes & Kettner practice amps? I tried the 15 and 30 watt ones today....they are amazing. The best transistor sound I've heard......well, joint best along with Fender, but they are entirely different sounds!

PhrygianDominant, (can I just keep calling you PhryDom?! hehe), no I haven't tried any Behringer stuff! I don't get to try amps that often, and usually when I'm trying a guitar in a shop the sales-person will plug me into a Boogie combo cuz it is going to be the best thing to make the guitar sound great!

I just had to try those H&K's tho - I don't have a practice amp, just the Legacy, so if I do get something small to carry around it'll definitely be the H&K. I can't remember what it was called though - something with 'Blue' in it!

I'll look out for Behringer stuff, it has a good reputation.

Lukewaller, no problem. Me, I been playing about 3.5 years (tho my username info says 4!). I'm not very good, to be honest. Sometimes I feel like i'm making progress, but then I have crappy days! anyway. must-have DVD's......umm, my collection isn't vast but I have both G3 DVD's, Joe's Live In SanFran show, Vai's Alien Love Secrets, Dream Theater's Live From New York (I think it's called Metropolis 2000 or something!), Toto 25th Anniversary, Joe's Satch Tapes, and I can also recommend a couple of tutorial videos - Eric Johnson's "Hot Licks" videos, and the Paul Gilbert ones aren't bad either.

I have the Vai-Astoria DVD on order, as well as the "Guitar Wars" DVD - really hard to get hold of, but featuring Paul Gilbert and Nuno Bettencourt; something tells me it's going to be amazing!

I definitely think Vai has the best stage presence I've seen, but then Joe gives off a totally different vibe - he's so chilled you almost forget you're in a massive auditorium with 2 or 3 thousand other people. Then he starts playing "Flying In A Blue Dream" and the crowd erupts and then you remember the 2 or 3 thousand others!

Greyfox, dude, I know what you mean about bands. I think I can now consider myself bandless, which sucks. It is really hard to find anyone, especially at a young age, who is half-interested in properly playing music and working on it. It's also hard finding someone with a similar taste in music and enthusiasm to go with it!
Austin, thanks for the results list. The results all look cool apart from one thing that turns it all round - Surfing With The Alien beat The Forgotten (1 and II)?!?!?! what the f*ck? Blasphemy! hehe.

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!

jelly man, wow, your formula with pi and root2 is impressive. I bet it sounds kinda whacky, but hell, what an original idea!
I Sinatra, I voted Hill Groove! I may not be around the next few days so feel free to leave the horses head on the back door step! hehe
so you don't reckon Jesus would drink a Bloody Mary?
Mary C, welcome to t2j! what's your favourite tune of Joe's?
Jazzy Boy, get an American Fender Strat - the USA Strat is about £750 and it is bl**dy marvelous.
Ollyno1, dude, that's cool aboout your new teacher. Where abouts is this teacher based?
Mischievous, thanks for your vote for The Forgotten (Part 2) for G3 Bournemouth!!

JS JS, was your question (about the cool experience) in regards to what I said about the crowd erupting when Joe starts on FIABD?

if so, it's a general thing, which is noticeable on both the LISF and G3 96 DVD's, but is also something amazing I remember from the show I saw in summer '02. It was on the Strange Beautiful Tour, in London, and FIABD was the first number Joe played.......it is an amazing atmosphere to set up a show with!

Jazzy Boy, the JS2000 has a fixed bridge, with locking nut and locking bridge saddles with fine tuners. it's like a Floyd Rose but it doesn't move.......it's meant to be super stable, but it's a gimmick.

As I said before, get the USA Strat - it has great tone, a stable bridge, a nice neck, it won't break your back when you spend more than 3 hours playing in a standing position, and you can do loads to customise it.

OCPS470, interesting question about the Legacy! mmm, versatile is my answer. The cab is loaded with Celestion Greenbacks, which instantly makes it quieter than a Fender or a real vintage Marshall, but very warm and kinda tight.

The clean channel is varied from generic clean sound to something more crisp and Ovation-esque. It can even handle the Strat sound well, although not the same as you'd get from a Fender. The 'Lead' channel is cool cuz it does a lot of tones, very well - if you were to plug a 335 into the dirty channel, with the neck pickup selected with the tone wound off, then put the 'drive' (gain) on the amp to low (2) but the volume up, you would get a decent jazz sound, and if you boost it with a tubescreamer, a DS-1 or similar, you get a slightly more driven, BB King/EJ sort of sound.

If you wind the gain up, and the 'presence' control, using a guitar with shred/rock pickups (an Ibanez RG/JS/PGM/EDR/Jem/UV or a Washburn Nuno model, for example) you get a massive rhythm tone, much like Nuno Bettencourt or Paul Gilberts, without it sounding industrial.

If you use the smoother gain sound, but with a hot neck pickup (a Jem for example) it sounds like Vai's tone! And if you use the boosted smooth tone with a Strat it's more harpy, so you get some very interesting harmonics/feedback/general characteristics out of it!

Related to other amps, it's more varied than a boogie, more ballsy than a fender, simply more interesting than a marshall, and more daring than a cornford. I haven't tried any other valve amps in a similar range, so I can't comment, but I would imagine it is capable of the smooth tones that an H&K and a Laney aren't.

If I had a decent method of recording I'd make a quick demo, but I don't, so I won't, cause I can't! hehe. Tone-wise, having heard some of your demo tracks, I think you'd quite like it, but you seem to be getting a sweet tone out of your Fender and POD! Hope that wasn't too long-winded! hehe

Ibanez Guitarist, you get a single coil sound on a Jem by using positions 2,3,4 of the 5-way switch, cuz these incorporate the single coil pickup. That said, if you use the neck pickup then wind the tone right up, it sounds Strat-esque.
Ollyno1, he taught Jon.....his name isn't Simon Wood is it? if so, yeah I know about him, he's cool, plays for 'Stillettos' and doesn't live anywhere near me, which is an arse......I really need to find someone. if it's not him then, well it's still a bit of an arse cuz it's Parkstone! bugger! cheers anyway dude!
trutina, hey dude, hows things? hope everything's going ok. I'm envious of you (and Ethn) meeting Mr Sardinas. He sounds really interesting. That's kinda funny that he's so shy, cuz he is really interactive on stage, and certainly doesn't give off that vibe.

I guess that's what makes someone a decent performer, but it's nice that someone like that can seem so 'human' or 'normal' when you take them 'out of context', so to speak.

ok, too many apostrophies in that post. I'll try using loads of semi-colons tomorrow!

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
OCPS470, another facet of the Legacy I forgot to mention - if you put two racks-worth of crazy effects in front of it, you can even sound like Jon Petrucci! ehem.
filesharing is bad, full-stop. That said, the first 3 tracks of Joe's I heard were ones I downloaded. I have since bought all his albums, and his DVD appearances, some of them more than once, so I don't feel bad!

Kirsch, being a new member here I'll give you the benefit of the doubt about your post. A lot of the regulars here will know that I do have respect for Petrucci! Don't worry about that, I show the man the utmost respect every time I put on his music.

Petrucci is a guitar-demon. His technical ability is among the best, I just don't like his lack of live rawness. That's what I liked about Joe's tone on LISF - as the man Joe himself said, he likes the simplicity of having a guitar into a few pedals into an amp, with no huge racks of processing.

With Petrucci's sound you can't really hear too clearly what the amp and guitar actually sound like, and whn you do, it's disappointing. That Ernie Ball/Music man JPM is a lovely guitar, but it's pickups are not that interesting. not compared to Joe's or Dr Vai's.

My favourite thing about Petrucci's playing is the riffs - he comes up with amazing rhythm structures, which I personally enjoy more than his solos.

The Glass Prison kicks ass, one of my favourites.

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
Greyfox, DO IT SON! GET THE Ergodyne 470! that is a gorgeous guitar. I sincerely hope you get it in blue as well - it's the best colour. Or that pearlescent silver/purple colour. The EDR470 is a cool shape - a little heavy perhaps, but has a nice neck and an interesting fretboard. The bridge is really good and stable, and the pickups are half-decent too. You could replace them for DiMarzio's or something and get a massive variety of tones! I'd buy one right now if I had the money spare.
trutina, cool, I'm glad to hear things are improving! hehe, Eric Sardinas as your neighbour - that'd be interesting! Oh and thanks for quoting that bit about Rolling Stone from 'fuck yourself' - I never got that line before....it all becomes clear! Take it easy maestro!
Joeman, I can't fight it any longer! ; ; ; ; ;;;;; ; ;;; ; ;;;; ; ;;;;; ; ; aaaaaaahhhhhhh! attack of the semi-colons
Jazzy Boy, no problem dude. and I still recommend the Strat, but that's cause I'm a fender man, not a Gibson man! hehe. that said, I'd love a 335, but they have so much more class than Les Pauls!

Anyway, I kinda know what you mean about being put off by the Floyd Rose, but don't let the RG give you a misrepresentation of Ibanez guitars. The Floyd's on the really decent guitars like the Jem's and JS's are amazingly well-ballanced and keep in tune very well. I have a Jem and an RG, and I don't want the RG any more - it's ok but the Lo-TRS II royally p*ss*s me off, whereas the Lo-pro on my Jem is amazing. I give it so much abuse, it really should have given up by now, but it seems fine!

However, a decent Strat is still a good idea....i just feel that if you get a Les Paul you will find yourself missing the tremolo arm!

Austin, I downloaded "Raspberry Jam" "Surfing With The Alien" and "One Big Rush", and then a few weeks later bought the NOTE/SWTA box set. Then the rest over a period of about a year (with a gap up the the EOC and SBM albums!)
eta, both of the LTE albums are available on amazon. I've not seen them anywhere else.
Clarky, B'mouth tickets are £29 including the service charge, add another £1 for postage

Greyfox, Ergodyne was the name first used for an Ibanez bass guitar, also a luthite body. "Ergo" is as in "Ergonomic" - something that is a measured fit for comfort and application for human use, ie. It's meant to make you feel like you were designed to play guitar.
mick87, dude! I hadn't checked that out. Jon Petrucci and Andy Timmons jamming together.....good god. I would love to have seen that. They are both just monsters, and with Andy's quirkiness that would have sounded immense! Mr T is also good friends with Mr Gilbert isn't he?!
J_Boss, new guitar? hmmm. Well I play Ibanez and Fender - A Jem is a bit above that price range, but I'd probably recommend an Ibanez Ergodyne (EDR) Guitar or an Ibanez S-Series.....I'm sure Chris Peters would recommend the S470 to ya?! hehe. I'd also recommend an American-made Fender Strat, they are very nice indeed. I don't know if that price bracket would cover a JS-100...if so, check it out, they are very cool.
OCPS470, you don't have to move the Ibanez bridge posts to fit a Floyd Rose? wow! that's worth knowing, thanks! Er...where did you get your Floyd Rose? hehe

marimariSRV, hey did you know that Kenny Wayne Shepherd is working on his 4th album, hopefully to be released in July/August?! I can't wait!

trutina, I'm sure Steve doesn't give a shit, although I wouldn't be surprised if Rolling Stone are totally unaware of what he said about them. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Rolling Stone Magazine are totally unaware of what real guitar playing sounds like. Vai's comments on journalists and the media are rather interesting, and kinda sad when you read into them.

Dude, what you said about Britney and the JSY2K is spot-on! hahaha, love it. Take it easy, eat more brownies!

Kirsch, that'd be "Apprehensive"
Yoda, yeah I'm going to the B'Mouth show! We'll have to have a t2j scout around a few days before and see if everyone can meet up in the lobby! if not, look out for my banner in the show, then come and meet me/lynch me afterwards! hehehe

I know the 7-String RG you're talking about, I'm afraid I've heard lots of bad things about those. I played one as well, and it wasn't too exciting, but if you can afford a pair of DiMarzio Blaze pickups to drop in it you may find things rather different!

Ovation1, (I'm holding onto the 'ovation' thing dude, but one day I'll crack and call you by your chosen user-name! hehehe) yeah I seem to remember seeing Mr T thanking Mr Gilbert somewhere along the line, and also him saying he'd had a great time jamming with Pablo at the Ibanez show, along with Joe-san and Steve-san. Mr T and Pablo are both Laney Endorsers/Endorsees(?) so they probably ran into each other there as well!

aparrently if you freeze water to a temperature colder than -100 celcius it boils. funny that. but it anti-boils; if you were to stick your finger in it you could snap it off. Moral - Don't stick your fingers in boiling water! it might be cold! ehem. I'll get my coat

mick87, haha, 'Mr T playing guitar' - I guess his signature model would have to be littered with gold hardware! Bling bling! hehe.

Yeah I'd be interested to see what'd happen if Gilbert, Petrucci and Timmons got together! Gilbert would undoubtedly have them laughing with his fun humour, and would probably give the most impressive shred show. Petrucci would rule the riff side, but I think Andy would, in his own sophisticated way, keep tabs on the others through sheer versatility. Flamenco? okay. oh you want me to sound like Stevie-Ray now? allrighty then. Oop, neo-classical sounds good for a laugh...oh hold on, it's blues time

Mix Nuno in there and you'd have a right little party, he'd surely have the rhytmn thing sewn up! Hmm, speaking of Nuno and Paul together, I can't wait for my Guitar Wars DVD!

Austin, yeah Kenny-Wayne's new album could be interesting - he mentioned something about trying new areas. It's gonna be great - no artist should stop writing at just 3 records, and I don't think Kenny intends to stop even at 4.
metalkneeskydog, I'd be interested to know how the ZR bridge fairs up after a couple of months of abuse. I wouldn't be surprised if it has teething problems since it's the first time Ibanez have produced it, but I reckon next year's ZR models, or even 2006's ZR models, will be improved. It looks promising, I think.....I want one!
marimariSRV, your Jeff Beck tickets arrived? awesome! My Toto tickets arrived the other day, as well as all 13 of my G3 tickets! I'm so hyped, I can't wait till summer. It is going to be a lot better than last year, I just wish my dad was here to enjoy it with us. Yeah, we'll organise thigs closer to the time, but i'd like to come to London for the day and say hello! Like I said, I don't know London too well (when the blind leadeth the blind, get out of the way!) but it'd be cool to hang out!
trutina, dude I'm wheezing. Your post was hilarious! hehe. "In bil's mouth, no-one can hear you scream!" And about eating pre-girl-scout brownies - it's hard to resist making a crack about it isn't it?! MUST....RESIST......... TEMPTATION...
Ovation1, I knew you'd love that DVD! I'm pleased you've got it and you're enjoying it so much! Dude you're so right about Jeremy - I love the part of "I Know You're Here"/"You're Here" when Jeremy sits down at the kit and starts up the drum rhythm - the whole thing is so amazingly written.

Austin, I dunno, I think Kenny-Waynes 'new areas' should be quite good, i think it'll just go slightly more in the rock direction than the blues direction, but he's said he's putting in some stuff to satisfy the blues-fans among his followers.
Hey Joe, you're going to Moscow? awesome, please let me know what you think og it! I really want to go to Russia in a few years time and I want to hear opinions. Also, while you're there, check out Red Square - it'd make an awesome site for a new music-video of yours. Have fun maestro!
mischievous, I'm sorry, I didn't realise we had a system going! hehe The Crush Of Love and Ceremony For G3 for Mischievous and as always, The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
s1220, actually I think it's kinda cool that they don't sell t-shirts and things here, cuz, as it stands, the only way you can really get a Satch shirt is to attend one of his shows and buy one there......if you add the option to buy them online, it kinda takes away the 'special-ness' of it. I think Posters would be good though. Or some limited edition, signed prints.......that's something Vai should do - I'd love an original print of the Passion & Warfare CD cover!

nisselon, on the Live In San Francisco DVD, you see Joe playing a guitar with Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates pickups in it.
The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
Wow, not much for me to say today! hehe.
Oh yeah, I gotta do this musical tomorrow. HA, it's gonna be the shittest thing I've ever been seen to be involved in! We have all learned the music pretty well, but the cast couldn't be bothered to learn their lines!

Wish me luck, amigos! hehe, actually don't - i'm not the one who needs it!

The Vai Live At The Astoria DVD:

I think this has to be the best DVD in my collection. It brought back a lot of memories, as well as showing me things that I never noticed before. If I were only allowed a few words to describe it, one of them would be 'artistic'.

I think Satriani's Live In San Francisco DVD is easier to dip into, so if I want to come in and watch some music for half an hour I'd probably choose that or the G3 '96 DVD.

But Steve's DVD is thoroughly enjoyable, and very revealing. The sound is pretty awesome, although it changes in places when you use the digital surround setup. The video quality is awesome too, and the little effects he's put on some of the frames are ok.....I though the ones on the Dream Theater DVD were a bit lame.

I was pleasantly surprised, cuz I remember Steve reporting that they didn't get much footage of his hands and his fretboard, but there seems to be a lot of it on there. It's a good ballance actually. Also, he certainly gives off a vibe that this was the most enjoyable show he'd ever played, although it's impossible to tell.

The band was awesome - I don't remember "Dave's Party Piece" at all but it was good, and DW doesn't look out of place in the band. Billy is Billy - he just rocks, and just like on the G3 '03 show, he's great fun to watch. Same goes for Tony, only his (and DW's) sound was better on this than on the G3 DVD. Virgil Donati was incredible on the night, and none of that is lost through the camera lens. His drum solo is so cool!

The special features disc is fun and interesting, and worthwhile! So many 'Special Features' are completely pointless, so this was nice to see.

And finally, the music itself: I thought the song selection was great - there were some I didn't recognise at the time, like "Shyboy" and "Chameleon" but I'm very familiar with them now. Steve's tone is great - I couldn't hear him too well when I was there cuz I was all the way over to the right (Dave Weiner's left), and he seems to have been pretty much at his peak as far as technical playing goes.

I would recommend it to everyone, cuz there's so much to see on there that you probably won't see anywhere else! If you want to know how to get an unnatural sound out of a guitar, then this should be good inspiration!

Clarky, Voodoo Chile halfway through Moby Dick the Musical? that would have gone down well! hehe. I had to be obedient cuz my teacher was the musical director and he's said that he could give us paid work after this....cool!
The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
Mr Nick/mick87, thanks! The musical was ok, surprisingly! It went much better than we expected, and I'm kinda disappointed that it's over.
Ceremony and The Crush Of Love for G3 Ljubljana!
Stu Clone, how was that Ron Jeremy lecture? was it long? hehe. also, I would probably choose the degree which lets me go abroad. if the other one takes all you time anyway, it leaves no room for manouvre. If you choose the one with a bit more freedom, it allows you to deal with any difficulty you might come up against - if you find it hard going and you have lots of work to do, you can find the time to do it. If it's taking all your time anyway, and you have to much work to do....you're f*ck*d.
trutina, a wise choice amigo! hope you slept well
Ovation1, it's good to hear you're Jem is fixed. for free. hehe, that kicks ass. I'm interested to hear you report that it's the best Jem you've played. Keep on rocking sensai, hope you're having fun wish Rush In Rio!
TPA, Joe doesn't give lessons
Yoda, not all the keys strike 3 strings, ie. not every note has 3 strings. I think it's the bass strings that are single, for the lower few octaves. yeah piano strings break, and replacing them comes into the piano-tuning bracket which is an expensive business anyway!
DelfinoPie, a decent airbrush could be a couple of hundred squid. You can use normal spirit-based paint with them....the sort you use for plastic model kits......but it has to be mixed with white spirit to make it thinner. Also, you have to clean the airbrush very thoroughly with spirit when you're done.

And I personally think ESP's are lame but that's just in my experience. Different guitars suit different people.

webboogie, welcome to t2j! and yeah, that a very interesting point.....if you open the Crystal Planet CD liner and look at the photos, you can see a Fender Telecaster hanging in Joe's rack alongside a couple of JS's.....I agree with Mikey Vai (Ovation1) that this is just a rule that the dealer has made up for himself!

espguitarlord, get the Secret Jewel Box....it is most definitely worth having.
a question for anyone, especially Jem/5-way-switched-RG-or-S-series-players, the 2nd switch position on my Jem uses the middle single coil, and the inner-most half of the neck humbucker, and the 4th position uses the middle single coil and the inner most half of the bridge humbucker, with me so far?

If I put a push-pull pot in the tone control, could I use it in the 1st and 5th positions to split the humbucker so I just use the outer-most half, ie, 1st position with coil split uses the neck-side half of the neck humbucker, and the 5th position with the coil split uses the bridge-side half of the bridge humbucker?

UF Dean, Ibanez can be right bastards sometimes - they use unique shades of lacquer for a start. Cause you know, normal clear lacquer like most people use would be too sensible. They also like using unusual pantones in their colours, but they do do a good job of paiting their guitars. it's just a shame it costs more to re-spray a guitar than it does to replace it!

speaking of painting, does anybody in the UK know of any decent spray shops? I'd like something added to my Jem, right where vai rights the names on his guitars, only I don't want it done in magic marker!

Ovation1, thanks dude! Yeah the DVD was definitely worth waiting for. I ordered one for me and one for my friend (who also came to the show) and when we got on yesterday and saw a pair of amazon boxes on the dining tabel, I knew that one of them HAD to be the DVD's. It was almost as exciting as queueing outside the show itself! hehe.

Thomas Nordegg is cool. I didn't see the guitar-switch yet - I'll watch it again this evening with my mum (she wants to see it) and I'll look out for it this time! and the U.R.A.Q.T. bit was funny, although he didn't send that message to the lady that I thought he would! hehe. Full of surprises! laters dude!

anibur, "Souvenir" is Eric Johnson's most recent release - it's an archive of various things he's wanted to release over the years, so it's very varied, and very nice to listen to. It also, yet again, has beautiful artwork. He is, indeed, working on a new album - "Bloom" - which, as with most artists, is taking a little longer than he expected. He's just about to finish his acoustic tour, so after that I should think we'll only have to wait a few more months!

espguitarlord, indeed it is all personal preference. And yeah, I totally know what you mean about Ibanez necks being a bit thin. I have small hands and I sometimes find it uncomfortable. I have a Strat which is obviously completely different, but I still find it comfortable. I wish I had more money to throw around, I'd have an Ernie Ball Luke model or a Washburn Nuno model, no questions asked! They both have great necks and are more compact than most guitars, and they both sound lovely.
Ovation1, when I get up to 400 posts i'll start adressing you by your username, I promise! hehe. anyway, yeah I thought Steve would have put the URAQT bit over the brunette - I remember looking across and seeing her and she certainly was hot. hehe.

about the Jem - you wish it had the AANJ? wassat? excuse my ignorance! Yeah i'm kinda tempted to see if that extra coil-splitting can be done - it'd give me 7 tones! Kind of appropriate, don't you think?

Mr Sean rippin guitar, that's an Ibanez Noodles model - noodles being one of the guys from The Offspring. If punk is your thing then the ND model has the vibe you want. It's meant to look like strips of Gaffa/duct tape, for your info!
