Zenfish, thanks for your recommendations dude! I've had "Sirocco" on my amazon wishlist for a while.....think I might go get it soon! peace friend :)

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
Ovation1, dude, if you want to see Lukather playing then that Toto DVD is the way to do it - he plays a keyboard solo on it as well, the sort of keyboard solo that would make the grim reaper nod and smile in appreciation. And his cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps is the best I ever heard - it'd make a bouncer weep.

Hope your sunburn doesn't hurt! It's been wonderfully hot and sunny here too - I spent most of my weekend recording, but when I wasn't doing that, I was sitting on the lawn reading Tom Clancy's Op Center: Divide And Conquer. I just finished it today....it's amazing!

hermes213, welcome, and amen on Eric Johnson......he was an excellent G3 member!
Delfino, what happened to the idea of an Ergodyne? dude, if not an ergo then get an S Series, they rock!
OME, NOOOOOOOOOO, you baaaastard! In a good way, but you LUCKY BASTARD! You met EJ man.....awesome! I'm dead envious, but hey, I won't let it get me! I wish I could have been at that show. I think meeting EJ has to be the ultimate for me......someday i'm gonna have to make a pilgrimage to the US just to catch him live! I'd like to meet Nuno too....hehe. Glad you enjoyed it dude, I can't wait for that CD, and thanks for the 'heads-up' on Chris Maresh's CD too!

Delfino, from what point of view did these reviews say the Ergo's aren't as good as they look? I hadn't heard of them when I first tried one - I saw it in the shop and I thought "shit, what's this?! Looks pretty.......Let's try it". And I found it pretty impressive. The bridge was excellent, the neck was good although the fretboard felt a little sharp along the edges cause it wasn't worn in - prestige necks are 'pre-worn' so they feel played. But that will happen with use anyway.

The pickups were okay, but I'd instantly change any Ibanez pickup cause they are not Iby's forte! The body felt really comfortable - my only actual complaint about the guitar is it's weight, but hey....it's not as heavy as a Les Paul! Definitely try one and see what you think - I think they have great potential.

Regards 3D editing - Lightwave appears to be a nice little tool.......it gives a slightly more classy look than 3DS Max.

and dude, you should get in contact with SIMS LED, and find out what they can do. It's f*ing obscene! They can do so much now to customise your guitar.

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
okay, i'll ask once more, only this time I'll make a note of your answers; Who's going to G3 Bournemouth?! Yoda, Clarky, jelly man and Ollie....I see you're all going.
mari, have you been to all the shows I wished I could have gone to?! hehe. Igor's CD is called Road Tested. He played with Uli Jon Roth and Al DiMeola in 2001! I should have gone, I SHOULD HAVE GONE!!!!!!
AlexSmith, get a DVD/CD copy of Joe's "Live In San Francisco" show and you'll see how he does it.

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!

whoaaah! I'm off to Holland on Friday! Tomorrow i'm travelling up to Ely, near cambridge, where my sister lives, so i'm going to be quiet for about a week! I'll be taking my digi-cam, so if it's okay with the venue, I'll be taking some photos at Vai's show on sunday night!
Delfino, haha, what a bullsh*t complaint about the Ergodyne! Whoever wrote that review just doesn't like Ibanez! Yeah, the Ergo's have plastic strap clips - not like normal pegs - and they should work just fine, especially if you don't stand the guitar on the floor! I never do that, it seems like tempting fate to me! anyway, yeah....you could always just replace the strap clips with normal metal pegs anyway.

S470's are awesome, but a little more expensive than the Ergo. Still, if you can afford it, then it's definitely worth-while!

It'd be nice if Dr Vai does use the Mirror-Top Jem for G3, but I kinda doubt it. It's so cool tho!!! hehe. take it easy bud, have a cool week!

OCPS470, haha, I gave up on it though when I found out working on a 3D movie would be like "hey I animated Shrek's nose" .......that is so true dude! I can't believe how much work goes into the tiniest things. That's why I love DVD 2-Disc editions. I got Minority Report, Terminators 1+2, The Fifth Element, and others, all on 2-disc, and the special features are amazing. People invent new types of software, invent new code, all for the purposes of building a convincing 3D render of a holographic video (Minority Report)! It's mad!
little bird, like Mikey said, thanks for passing our regards to Mr Zappa. Hey, that's cool that you heard Joe's music on the radio!

For your info, 'LMAO' means Laughing My Ass Off! and when you see 'ROF' before it, it means Rolling On Floor Laughing My Ass Off! I too much prefer 'Hehe' - it's more civilised!!

I'm going away tomorrow, and I'll be back next wednesday, so I'll not be around, but I'll look forward to reading your mail when I get back! Thanks, best regards from sunny England! :)

Secret Prayer, Ceremony and The Crush Of Love for G3 Ljubljana!
Ovation1, sensai, I hope the rest of your week and your weekend are good! Hope the Aloe-Vera is doing the trick.

It's good to hear you've already introduced the kids to the legacy that is the Ibanez Jem! hehe, they'll be little guitar-wizards of their own before you know it! You're dong the right thing! hehe.

Like I said above, if I can take photos in the Paradiso, I will, so fingers crossed for some nice images of Dr Vai and his Orchestra!

take it easy dude, catch up with you next week! Sayonara!

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!

Hey Joe, I'd like to hear Lifestyle, If I Could Fly, Hill Groove and, of course, The Forgotten (Part 2)!

Did you hear from Steve yet? was just wondering if he'd talked to you about his classical shows in Holland?! I hope you get a chance to see the footage or something.....it was cool!

trutina, wow, cool story of meeting Joe! Hope he likes the disc
I'm getting really into If I Could Fly. It's my second favourite track on ITLIS? Lifestyle being the coolest, IMHO. If I Could Fly has such an awesome solo section, it's unreal.
Ovation1, Konichiwa! Hows things buddy, what's been goin down in groove-town?! hehe. Hope your weekend was cool. Mine was ace! Yeah I know...the Holland trip suddenly arrived, while I wasn't looking! I did take photos of the good Doctor himself, but they didn't come out too well. I'll see what is worth looking at, and put them up at my webshots address, probably this weekend!

Steve played a new song, which he wrote for the orchestra. I think it was called Lotus Feet. It's a ballad. It made me cry. no song has done that before (apart from at my dad's funeral, but that was for a different reason). This new song has such amazing melody and structure, it is so expressive. I don't know what part of Steve's mind it came from, but it's a side that hasn't really been exposed until now. Good stuff!

ZOE HILL/Ibanez_Jem, did you miss my responses before? I guess so......yes, there's a whole bunch of us going to G3 Bournemouth.
Secret Prayer, Ceremony and Lights Of Heaven for G3 Ljubljana!
Mischievous, I haven't seen Troy, but I was interested and surprised to see that Bradd Pitt is in it! Is it any good?

BTW, you kick ass! hehe, yeah you're damn right, i'd love to hear Hill Groove on G3!

Clarky, damn right on Beers in Bournemouth!. I tell you what, i'm gonna be in b'mouth ALL DAY.......I really want to catch one of the G-ers for a signature or something! On Sunday afternoon, I met with a bunch of people outside the Paradiso and they said about an hour before I arrived, Vai came out and talked to 'em. What had I been doing at that time? Eating Chinese! SH*T!
OME, the link to the EJ photo doesn't seem to be working.
Ethn, the link to the Joe/Andy Vid aldo seems to be suffering the same trouble!
Oh, if anybody was getting tired of hearing For The Love Of God on every live show Vai did, he just freshened it up by making it classical! It started out with an Oboe playing the main melody......brilliant!
dammit, I've read 14 pages, 10 left! Alexandre, you probably saw some of the things I wrote above about the Vai show. I'll give a better report in due course!

marimariSRV, sh*t, and I thought I had a cool time in AMsterdam! hehe. sounds like the EJ show was legendary! I'm so envious.....I'd give anything.....almost....to have been there! EJ is incredible, and having stuff signed......nice one!

little_bird, I got your mail, but I have yet to read through it! Thanks tho, I'll look forward to, it! I noticed you put some more language translations at the end for me! Thank you!
who else has heard/heard of [b]Blues Saraceno?
Clarky, you wanker, you never told me you were going to Amsterdam! hehe.....it was awesome wasn't it? As it happens, I wouldn't have seen you anyway cause I went on Sunday night. Yeah the show kicked all ass. Oh and again, you wanker.....you were right in front of him! hehe. I was up to his right on the first balcony. It was cool tho. My review follows!
so, Steve Vai - The Aching Hunger. Live with the Amsterdam Metropole Orchestra. It kicked ass! It was just as good as the Astoria show, but in a totally different way. The Astoria show was an assault on the senses, whereas the classical show was more delicate and intricate.

He is responsible for all the music that was played - The Orchestra played without Vai for about 40 minutes, then he came on and played a re-arranged "Kill The Guy With The Ball". They then took a 15 minute break, before coming back to play the rest of the show.....another 40 minutes or so. That second half was a mixture of stuff we all know - Answers, FTLOG, the Crying Machine - and new pieces including a new Ballad, which I think is called "Lotus Feet". It's the best piece of music Vai has written, and integrates the Orchestra and the sounds of the Orchestra in such a perfect way.

He finished with "The Attitude Song", and a second encore of "Kill The Guy With The Ball". He involved a lot of audience/orchestra communication in the usual manner of call-and-response. he showed the same kind of physical/facial expression as normal, but also pointedly showed respect and attention to the orchestra when he wasn't playing. It was very aparrent that he wanted it to be a Vai-with-orchestra show, not just a Vai show.

He played a couple of Blue Jem's, and one of the normal white ones - I think it was Evo - as well. These appeared to be through a Little Alligator volume pedal, then a Bad Horsie wah pedal, then straight into a single Carvin Legacy. There might have been a DS-1 hidden behind the monitor too, I couldn't see, but as far as I could work out, the tone was from the amp's dirty channel. And the tone was amazing!

The venue (The Paradiso) used to be a church. Acoustics are not perfect, but the sound was still excellent, and everything was very well ballanced. I guess there were about 800/1000 people in there, standing on half of the ground floor, and sitting and standing on the 2 balconies. The back half of the floor was filled with the Orchestra.

It was a truly awe-inspiring experience, and everyone enjoyed it! You could see it in their faces! I'm sure Steve will watch the video-camera tapes he had taken of it and will be over-analytical and put himself down in places, but I guess that's what makes him who he is. The hard work he and the Metropole Orchestra put into this was absolutely worth it, and I hope some of it makes it to CD.

civgeek, I just heard a copy of an album of his a few days ago so I looked on amazon for Blues Saraceno, and found a few things. None are available tho, but a couple have reviews. Any idea where 'Blues' is from?

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
Museman, the deal with "The Aching Hunger" is that the three shows were a one-off. It's not going to any other countries, it is finished, and there will be no DVD, but Vai always records his shows for his own purposes, so a CD isn't impossible. Same thing with "Fire Strings". For the record, he has material that is written but didn't have time for, so there may be an "Aching Hunger Part 2", 12 months from now, in the same place.
Ovation1, no all the material was new, or newly arranged, so nothing from Fire Strings. Also, he was wearing all black, rather than the crazy green shirt!

I dunno about satchaholics, but I hooked up with some fellow Vai-ists, including Mr Pusztai (or however he spells it), the dude who did the french vocal on "Being With You" on the AIAUW album. He's cool!

still, i'm looking forward to hookin up with some satchaholics before G3! can't wait! Laters bro'

marimariSRV, what date did you say you leave the UK? is it the 22nd? and the spare Jeff Beck ticket is for the 23rd? To answer your question, yes please! I'd love to go to that JB show on your behalf. I'm just thinkin, I could come to London on the 21st and meet you, stay with a friend of mine over the 22nd, then go see Jeff on wednesday 23rd! A plan is formulating!
Mr Nick, haha....DVD? The only cameras filming the A-dam shows were a pair of small video cameras. Nothing good enough for a DVD quality video feed! I hate how rumours get out of control. If you're a member of the JP forum, maybe you could put them straight?
Ceremony, Secret Prayer and The Crush Of Love for G3 Ljubljana!
jblaze, no, no LASER Gloves at the Aching Hunger shows......not really that kind of gig!
mikesb, cool, thanks for the Blues Saraceno info! It's odd, you often seem to know about any name I throw at you.....you know your sh*t man! Yeah it'd be cool to see him on Favoured Nations!

civgeek, the Mini pictures are all the same car, it belongs to a friend of mine. He's been slowly working on it, changing wheels, arches and so on. It's pretty ace! btw, I photoshopped the license plate cuz he didn't want his registration up on the net! fair enough! I should have done it with the Ferrari and stuff as well......Oops!

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
jblaze, I hate to be pedantic, but the mirror-top Jem you are referring to does have a laser in it as well as LED's! it has one implanted in the end of the headstock, as does Billy's double-neck bass!
mikesb, cool, Sareceno and son were responsible for Dirty Boy amps? any idea what they are like?
Austin, haha, yeah you could see it like that. Thing is, from where I was sitting, I could see the bassist's and saxophonist's manuscripts, so I could see what was going to be played. I saw "For The Love OF God" and thought "oh yippee....like I've never heard that before". But it started and it was actually very nice, so it was ok.

No I haven't read the Zappa book.....I ought to do that at some point, i should think it's pretty interesting. These things Vai has done that Zappa couldn't.....do you think it's cuz Frank wasn't capable, or do you think it's just cuz he didn't get the chance cuz he died?

trutina, thanks for the info on Lotus Feet - I never knew that. How did you hear about it then? i'm intrigued! Aparrently Vai was asked to write at least 65 minutes of material for "The Aching Hunger", and he actually wrote 2 and a 1/2 hours, so they're expecting an Aching Hunger Part 2 next year....it's not just a rumour. Bearing that in mind, I should think he will release a CD of Fire Strings/Aching Hunger stuff after the second show, or just before it to promote it, then a 2nd CD after it, either way including some of Aching Hunger Part 2! that's my guess anyway!

100% fresh PBJ and bread is good huh? i'll have to try it! hehe

marimariSRV, regards calling Clarky a wanker......if you think a "wanker" is "one who indulges in self-pleasure", then yes, it does mean what you think it does! hehe. but I wasn't really calling him a wanker, although I'm not suggesting he....okay, i won't go there! ehem

about meetin up, jeff beck dates and e-mailing me, it's all good! the 24th should be fine. I could meet you on the 23rd, then go visit my friend overnight when I leave you to see jeff, then go see him myself on the 24th (thursday I believe). yeah, whenever you have all the details, mail me your hotel details, contact details (if you happen to have a phone with you) and we'll sort somethin out!

cheers mate, talk to you soon, "me old scrote"! HAHAHAHAHA, now I wonder if you'll understand what "me old scrote" means?!?!

jblaze, no I don't think Vai took any lessons in makng the guitar sound like a voice.....he pretty much invented it!
Stu Clone/DelfinoPie, SIMS LED, in the UK, also do the LED inlay thing, which is better for delfino!
little bird, good luck with entertaining the guests! Hey, your english is allright. The last e-mail you sent was without help from your teacher, right? well, it all made sense!
Clarky, okay you beat me hands-down, on the definition of "wanker"! hehe, if that didn't clear it up, I don't know what will.
Secret Prayer, Ceremony and The Crush Of Love for G3 Ljubljana!
TASTEY, teeheehee, DINGUS!! haha, what a great word! The joke ain't bad either, but DINGUS is just inspired!
Ovation1, you like the mini? It's actually a Mini Mayfair, not a Cooper (not important unless you're well into your Mini's), but it's been customised somewhat. It's only a 998cc engine, but it also only weighs about 800 Kilos, so it's good fun. Top speed is about 100, acceleration to 60 is slow, but it handles like a cat on velcro!

like I said, good fun!

TASTEY, haha, I like what Clarky contributed - Dingus Maximus Erectus. Damn *that hot chick* gives me such a Dingus Maximus Erectus! hehehe. or Damn, seeing those two guys playing tonsil-hockey gives me serious Dingus Maximus Flacidus!

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
mikesb, thanks for the Dirty Boy Amps link. The Blues Saraceno site looks interesting, i'll store that. thanks for that too!
Austin, hehe, thanks for the link buddy! Hey, that's pretty amazing that there was something Zappa said can't be done! That suprises me greatly, cuz a lot of his ideas seemed to stem from classical structuring. I guess he just didn't realise it!

about American Idol voting....yes my frined, that is a disgrace. Yet another Great British Embarrassment. We create such tabloid sh*t. Last time we had a general election, more people voted on who they wanted to win "Big Brother" than who they wanted as Prime Minister.

I got Nuno's "Schizophonic" today....it's pretty cool, I was pleasantly surprised. Damn, he writes such good songs.
Little Bird, thanks for the photo you mailed me! it's pretty cool. Something I noticed about it (maybe not the thing you'd expect) is that the pavement is very clean and pale. Are the pavements in Russia made from Limestone or something? It looks nice! Every other city I've ever seen, the pavement has been covered in chewing gum!
Hahahaha. Joe, who was the twisted f*cker who told you that special packages on tickets, aftershow and backstage passes etc, are a good idea?!?! I mean......dude......sort it out. This is not the cool, laid back, music-loving Joe we're used to. This is some strange new commercial Joe.

What shows you who the real fans are? is it the ones who have 200-bucks-a-piece to burn, or is it the ones who queue for 5 hours, sometimes in the cold and rain, just to get the best seat in the house? Is it the ones who bring their camera in the small hope that they'll get their own photo of you, to proudly share with all their friends? A professional photographer?! hahahaha, that's even better!

Alexandre, you're welcome bro, glad you liked those photos! The one of the setlist wasn't mine, I can't remember who took it, but I just had to put it up! Good set, huh?! I'm optimistic for a Classical-Vai-CD! You have a good weekend too amigo!
IceZer, I have no idea how to get hold of a key-gen. That's a sign of the times that an Audi manual comes on a CD! by the way, respect to the Audi owner....I love those things! If the manual doesn't work, you could always exchange the S8 for an S4 or S3....oh baby! ehem
Trutina, "Lotus Sandwiches"! haha, that's kinda.....gross
Webmaster-Jon, regards the premium pass thing.....one word: BOYCOT?

Noppa, yeah I'm finding "Schizophonic" really interesting. Also, Nuno played "Gravity" on "Guitar Wars", it's on the DVD, and I have to say, the live version is a lot more satisfying. The vocal effect on the album is cool but doesn't have the same rolling vibe that the live version does. Are you quite a Nuno fan? are you a Paul Gilbert fan? if yes to both, then I definitely recommend trying to get the Guitar Wars DVD, despite the high price!

"I've had my fun, had my day in the sun, now my body's a map of a cracked Arizonaaaaa!!!

Trutina, you're killin me man! On "500 dollar package for Joe's Garbage!". hehehe
Mischievous, don't get me wrong, I still want to hear Hill Groove For G3! but I don't shout for it as often, cause of the small chance that it's one or the other, and Hill Groove is chosen over The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!

still, this is as good a place as any for requests, so Secret Prayer, Ceremony and The Crush Of Love for G3 Ljubljana!

Keza, Joe doesn't use Marshall anymore! he tried Cornford a couple of years ago, but now he's a Peavey endorsee, with a signature amp, the JSX.
marimariSRV, do you know what time you have to leave the UK on the 24th of June? Would there be time to meet with you in the morning or do you have a lunch-time flight?

Ovation1, hell yeah, I love that bit in Cupid's Dead, on the DVD. Nuno's voice is so nice, kinda delicate sounding, when he's singing "Extraaaaa, Extraaaaa" then he just throws the gravel back in his voice....I love it! Someone should have done the rap over the next section tho! even if it does sound dated! hehe
Noppa, i'd definitely recommend Guitar Wars then. It's quite expensive - 45quid, about 60 Euros - and although it appears to be region free, it is NTSC format, so ensure your TV and DVD player are NTSC compatible, but it's well worth it!
Austin, Dave Weiner seems to have his first solo release, Shove The Sun Aside, on hold. Maybe he's waiting so he can release it under FN?! It's taking it's time tho.....2 or 3 years so far!

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
SupaaDave, ahahahahaha, that's pretty funny! yeah DW went for his auditions but his acting career was nipped in the bud, so to speak, cause he missed being a sidekick! hehe. No offence to DW tho, he does, of course, do an excellent job.
Ovation1, hehe, yeah the end of More Than Words is funny, especially when Gary breaks up Nuno and Paul, so Paul grabs Gary's micstand, then there's a pause and Nuno yells "More!" haha. Hope you're havin a cool weekend bro!
michelle, how old is your daughter? that's great that she's getting a 5 piece Pearl Kit! I'm envious! hehe. Drumming is good, does she drum already? No doubt she's gonna make an excellent musician in a couple of years time!
climber, happy steady-going-200! You have a JSX? Or just the XXX cab? or just one Sheffield celestion-alike speaker?! hehe. What are your opinions?

michelle, 15 1/2? that's a cool age to start learning an instrument. It's at the age where you're old enough to have an attention span longer than 30 seconds, but your young enough to learn lots in a short space of time cuz your brain is at optimum learning capacity. Like civgeek said, it's great that your so supportive of your kids! They got some cool parental musical influencees going on there too!

Ovation1, aaahh the Starbucks lounge! I don't care if Starbucks is a big commercial giant, it's got a lounge! Many-a-time, have my girlfriend and I managed to buy just one hot chocolate each and spend four hours in there, and not get evicted! hehe.

have fun playing your geetar bro!

The Forgotten (Part 2) for G3!

Ovation1, haha, yeah some people really like to exploit Starbuck's chill-out facilities to their full potential don't they?!

Good to hear your jem is having such a good influence on you. Mine is agrivating me at the moment......i think i've worn a flat spot on the knife edge, so it doesn't return quite to center, and it doesn't keep in tune too well. I need to replace the tail-piece, but to do that would cost me more money than I have :( nevermind........i'll get a job soon and then it'll be happy stories!

happy 2k bro!

Anyone been to the NEC motorshow yet? i'm goin this thursday....can't wait. Porsche's Carrera GT is there [drool]yum[/drool]
Climber, give it a coupe of months saving part of your wages and you ought to be able to part-exchange your XXX for a JSX!
Joe, have a good week of rehearsals!
Ree, also bare in mind that Marshall don't need a JS signature head......they hardly need the money. Slash is a bigger hitter than Joe, cause more people will know him or unkowingly see him/hear him cause of G n R, Snakepit and Velvet Revolver.
Brother Al/civgeek, er I don't believe reliability is too much of an issue with Mesa Boogie amps. they're pretty consistent, and more hardwearing than Marshall. I personally don't like the tone that much either.......Hughes & Kettner engineer better distortion, in my opinion, and make great rhythm amps. Boogies are good but overpriced, like PRS.
The Prez, i personally don't have the Jimi-bug. I don't like listening to him, but a lot of it is cause of recording quality. Eric Clapton is truly awesome.
2297, why is Clapton overrated? and what, of his, have you heard that you can base your opinion on, cuz the man is certainly varied

trutina, yeah I wish [drool]that[/drool] worked as well! hehe. In case you were wondering....I didn't think it did when I typed it! Smilies would make this board so slow tho, so it's best without 'em!

civgeek, yeah man, I know what you mean about the dry H&K thing.....it's not often you can stick a guitar straight in the front of an amp, without any kind of effects, and it'll still sound interesting. H&K and Fender are the only amps that have done that for me!
The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
Joe, can you tell me something - what are you methods when you set about eliminating the 'thump' sound of pick-attack from your tone? I was watching both G3 DVD's last night, and obviously the 8 year gap and big change in amps means that your tone is really different, but you still managed to nearly eliminate that sound. Is it a feature of the way the JS is wired, is it the way you setup your amp's tone, or is it the way you setup your pedal tones?

A lot of guitarists seem to be pro-pick-attack-noise, so I'd guess that your desire to have it dialed out from your tone was something that suprised Peavey a bit?

The Prez, wow, thanks for that 'heads-up' on the upcoming Crossroads DVD! can't wait!
marimariSRV, allright mate?! Excuse my ignorance, but can you tell me, how do you pronounce your name? I might kinda need to know that if we manage to organise meeting up in London! hehe. "Me old scrote".......damn, now I got to explain. I knew that was a bad idea. Well, scrote is an abbreviation of a 2-syllable word with the same first 5 letters! yeah it's gross, i'm sorry!
Ovation1, damn right man, jamming on the acoustic will be an upside of not jamming on the Jem! I just hope i find myself in the mood for some Spanish/Latin stuff. Lately i've been playing my GIO.......I really ought to see if the jem still works! I feel guilty!
Climber, fair enough, on keeping the XXX! Why not have a JSX as well?! I like your way of thinking.....i'm the same about an H&K amp, only I can't afford one at the moment. nevermind!
Ollyno1, do you use another pedal for your rhythm tone, or do you just use the guitar and the amp. Same question goes for your lead tone.

Should the EQ go in the loop? i've never been sure about this, cuz putting it on the loop means the signal is being EQ'd after it's being pre-amplified?!? Put it wherever is most simple, so if, for your lead tone, you use more pedals than your rhtyhm tone, use the EQ to cut down the rhythm sound, then take it off for your lead breaks.

Also, if your using a wah pedal, or a chorus or flanger for example, in your lead breaks, then they (especially the wah) will screw your EQ setting, so my initial 2 cents is put it into your rhythm setup! I hope some of that is useful!

Yoda, in my opinion that isneither a waste nor an investment - it's a contribution! that 64 quid has slightly helped the music industry, which is far better than downloading! well done! hehe

dragonchild, hahaha, oh "scrote-pouch" is brilliant! I'm sorry, I feel bad, and I promise i'm not taking the piss. no, the word is 'scrotum', but I think "scrote-pouch" is so much better! I'm gonna write to the dictionary people and see if they'll buy it!

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
OCPS470, cool, thanks for the advise on picks bro. I've tried a real range of 'em - Dunlop Jazz 3's, 1mm and 2mm Baby Stubbies, and a bigger Stubby, a .96mm Pure-Tone (that was good), planet waves Jerry Garcia picks...........they're all good in different ways. So you reckon Fender Celluloid T-Shell, Heavy? I'll give it a shot next time I get the chance!

Glad you enjoyed the EJ show buddy.....please, feel free to tell me more!

marimariSRV, cool, at least I won't screw up on pronunciation! hehe. Hope you have a great time at the EJ show!
OME, does the SD2 give you the tonal satisfaction you seek?
Ollyno1, mate, sounds like you got it sorted! I'll be interested to hear if the Wah changes things tho. I'd imagine you'll be ok (cuz you use a Dunlop wah, right?).......the Dunlop is more evenly progressive. I know i've found before that the deep scoop in the Morley ciruit can really piss about with EQ, but it's only a problem if you use a humbucker on a clean channel. On dirty it's fine.
COErules, the JS1200 got the new PAF Joe pickup in the neck, a better match for the Fred than the PAF Pro. it also got the new Edge Pro bridge, but that is also a feature of the new JS1000's. So yeah, the differences are one pickup, and the colour!!

the Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!

dragonchild, no probs. if the dictionary-writers buy it, you'll get plenty of royalties.....it was a real gem!

by the way, amen on the Fire Garden Suite, and the whole album.....it's a corker!

OCPS470, dude, thanks loads for your input on pick selection! A really technical run-down was just what I needed......most people just say "erm, well I use these things cuz....er.....they look cool. What's 'pick-attack noise' anyway?!?"

Thanks also for the review on the EJ show! Sounds f*in ace! I'm dead envious of you guys who went, glad you enjoyed it tho!

I've been wondering, what does the 'O' stand for on the beginning of your ID? I got the CPS470 bit but I can't work out the 'O'!

OME, yeah I've heard someone else who really rates the SD2, and I heard him use it through his Boogie rig - it definitely keeps the levels of guitar tone pretty high, rather than killing it all with overdrive. I shall have to investigate. I'm really loving the tone I get using the Marshall Bluesbreaker on the dirty channel, but it makes so much bloody background noise! If I stop playing I get terrible hissing! maybe I could invite Marshall to make me a special edition!
Jazzy Boy, so you like The Forgotten (Part 2) huh? that is good news! Did you say it's the first time you heard it? wow.....I remember the first time I heard it.......stunning, isn't it?
danny k, Ernie Ball Ernie Ball Ernie Ball Ernie Ball..........I won't go on, but you get my point! I played that Axis model, and I have to say it is one of the damn finest guitars I've ever forced something resembling a note out of!

if you get one, try and afford the extra dollars for one with a Piezo pickup, cause it is INCREDIBLE! the Piezo from Ernie Ball/Music Man p*ss*s all over the Ibanez one.....it is soooo good! I just can't describe to you what you would be missing out on if you go for the Wolfgang instead!

Are you on a tight budget? hope you don't mind the question...it's just that, if you can earn/spare an extra few hundred, get the EB/MM Luke Model! It's even better than the Axis!

You may wonder why, if they're so good and I loved them so much, I don't have one......it's cause I'm skint! As soon as I get the money to spare, i'm nabbing me a Luke model......The tone man.....THE TONE!

marimariSRV, pleeeeeeaaasssee could you let me know what time your flight leaves London on the 24th? Cheers mate! hehe. hope you're havin a cool weekend!
OCPS470 (again), what does Peter Taylor actually charge? I bet a custom-built guitar is going to cost quite a lot!

Janice, are you talking about the fast crazy thing that Joe repeats as a kind of chorus? if so, it's not a sweep, it's an arpeggio with the right hand muting the strings by the nut. have you got the Live In San Fran or G3 '03 DVD's? if so, it's on both.

The Forgotten (Part 2) (and Lifestyle and Hill Groove) For G3!

Delfino, I definitely like the G3 10-year anniversary thing. that'd be an incredibly cool show, and a really odd line-up!
trutina, love your views on politics dude! it's all so true (unfortunately)........politics is never legitimate!

like the Raegan quotes - he was a funny guy! Long may he rest in peace.

Ovation1, F1 is more demanding but I think Rally could actually be more demanding. Did you know that a World Rally Driver takes in more information every second than a fighter pilot? F1 is good, but traction control, auto-shift....all these things make the car so technological it's much easier to drive. I bet if you put some of today's drivers up in an older....say 80's.....car like Senna's McLaren, they would be screwed! F1 cars are technologically impressive tho, and they're going to be seriously simplified for 2008. they'll get a V8, smaller capacity than the current V10, manual shift, no traction control.....back the way it used to be! can't wait!
Austin, I didn't hear it from you but.....OH MY GOD! An EJ Strat? about bl**dy time! I can't wait.....thanks for the good news!
OCPS470, under 2 Grand? No way! This guy should be a living legend - he could rip the ass out of the current custom market, have you seen how much people charge for a simple PRS or Les Paul copy. And I mean, they are a proper copy....they just have a slightly different headstock design, and unusual colours. anyway, 4-4.5 grand is quite normal.

Does peter use the same body design for everything, you know, does he have a trademark design, or will he make it completely to your design spec?

marimariSRV, dammit that EJ show sounds amazing! I'm even more envious now!

so, your flight is at 4:15? lunch would be cutting it a bit fine for you, but we could meet in the morning. Please do mail me those details! talk to you soon!

The Forgotten (Part 2) and The Crush Of Love For G3!

Ovation1, yeah these rally guys are really impressive. I heard a suggestion yesterday that Mika Hakkinen might come back to F1 next year, maybe to Williams. He is an amazing driver, and really knew how to properly drive an F1 car before they started to drive themselves!

You may be pleased to know I gave the jem a good thrashing over the weekend! I felt sorry for it so I recorded a tune onto 4-track. the recording quality is piss-poor, and the lack of drums and bass is distressing, but it's enough for me to remember my half-decent ideas when I come to recording them on PC!

Delfino, hell yeah bro. Giant Fruit Suits is still a killer idea! A petition for a 10th anniversary of G3 is also a good idea, but I dunno how those chain-e-mail-petition things work. I mean, I don't know how you actually monitor the real number of signatures.

Also, for your info, I posted the MPHGT Arpeggios the other day for IceZer. I'll post them again for you tho!

Alexandre, happy 400 amigo!
DCK, I personally think 2 base cabs next to each other look cool, and I prefer the sound of base cabs anyway
OCPS470, cool, thanks for the info on peter's work! Damn, it sounds like he's an amazing craftsman....being that good with wood is worthy of the respect of the gods!
marimariSRV, thanks for your e-mails! and for the photos. hey, cool picture with mr Johnson.....you just had to rub it in didn't you?! hehe.
Austin, cool, thanks. keep me updated on the EJ Strat! I wouldn't be surprised if they do make it available globally - they have the world domination thing pretty much nailed, and even if they keep it local, I could always import one!
civgeek, haha, yeah I have also noticed that by which you were distraught - some people have no sense of pitch. What is equally disturbing, is the number of drummers i've heard who can't keep time! Good luck finding someone who has half an idea how to sing!
Joe, you should regress to the look of the Engines Of Creation and Strange Beautiful Music tours! The Oakleys and no hat on Live In SanFran was most cool, and those ace trousers....sorry....pants you wore for SBM look great on stage. You know, the black ones with the broad stripes that look a kind of sunset-colour, tho that could have been the lights!
Ceremony and Secret Prayer for G3 Ljubljana!
testas, I have no idea where you can get a scratch-film from like on Joe's chromers. You know when you buy a new CD or something, sometimes it has a clear label of some kind on it, and it's really easy to peel off? I strongly suspect that it's the same stuff, and cuz it's easy to peel leaving almost no visible trace, then no, it wouldn't damage the guitar.
Danny K, fair enough dude. did you try the Axis with a Piezo pickup in it? Also, which axis? the standard one or the 'Axis Sport'?

The Forgotten (Part 2) and Speed of Light for G3!
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! I just read my e-mail. I got a message from Mikey at vai.com saying I won an aftershow pass for G3 London! cool.....that put a wry smile on my face. time to call my sister!
Stu Clone, thanks for the update. I found those arpeggios on a TAB site somewhere I think....they're not mine, I confess! I never tried TMPHGT cuz it's not my 'thing'. but i'll keep a note of those arpeggios - they'll be good as a technique lesson!
civgeek, a horse and buggy? haha, a buggy here is a pushchair. A horse pulls a 'cart' or a 'carriage'. A Dual Carriageway simply gets it's name from it being a route of 'dual carriage', rather than a route for two horses-and-carts at the same time.
michelle, the 'bonnet' is the hood. And hey, you guys invented the car bra! hehe.....I can see why tho - bugs make an awful mess when you're driving on the freeway!

for your info, if an englishperson asks you 'can I borrow a rubber?' they just want to borrow your eraser! there's nothing sick and twisted about it!

The pavement is the sidewalk. What you call the pavement, we call the road!

Ovation1, for the record, that's "prost"!

regards my Jem, it's now got to the stage of 'winging it'! It's really dodgy - i think the weather has slightly skewed the neck again as well....it needs sorting. but yeah, it's currently at the stage of being approximately in tune, and you can still get a cool tone out of it - it's just not the highly accurate piece of engineering it used to be; instead it's more like "are you lookin at my fretboard? i'm a f*ck*n Jem man! now back off!" hehehe

novjul, on Reel Satriani/The Red Album it was, i believe, Nathan East! yeah, that was one cool video, really interesting.

The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!

civgeek, no probs dude. these english-to-english translations may be useful someday! hehe
thanks guys on the congrats for aftershow! hehe.

dragonchild, yeah I was wondering that, but I can only assume the aftershow pass means you get to go and see whoever happens to be in the mood for talkin half an hour after the show finishes. But hey, i've heard Mr Sheehan is most talkative, and we all know he's dead funny, so whatever happens, it should be cool!

Delfino, ouch, sorry to hear your guitar decided to bite back! b*st*rd things! hehe. go and soothe the pain by taking a spin on Project Gotham 2! I just got it yesterday......kick-ass!

polyrhythms? i can only assume that's more than one rhythm being played together. you know mobile phones, right? there's were those with mono-phonic tones, which is where you get a single note.

Polyphonic tones are where it actually plays different notes. poly is 'more than one' - a Polygon is a number of lines/angles to denote a shape.

Artanis I, yeah we use footpath in the UK too, only it tends to be more commonly used if the path is detached from a road. if a roadway has a footpath running alongside it it's a pavement; if a woods or a park has a marked pathway through it, it's a footpath!
mikesb, that brit lady in reference is Anne Robinson!
Clarky, I can't stand the term 'axe' either......it sounds like a name people would use when they 'play' a guitar but actually know jack-sh*t about it!
Jimmy Franklin, graphics on your PRS wouldn't increase the value of it. And since it's a guitar, and a costly one too, then you're gonna find that if you ever want to re-sell it, it's not going to earn you much money anyway. guitars are like that.
tamino, damn, i'm sorry to hear of the dirty theft of your father's livelihood. theives are scum, and it angers me that so little effort is made by police forces to combat theft and burglary, because they're too busy fannying about stopping motorists who are driving 2 mph over the speed limit! I sincerely hope you guys can get back on your feet again and at least some of those possessions are recovered. Let us know what happens :)
Ovation1, haha, sure I'll tell Steve "Mikey DeRossa says he wants Fire Strings on DVD!!" (I think I got your surname right?!? sorry man....i'll feel bad if i'm wrong!)
juju, I can imagine the headline - 99.5 'The Mountain' breaks mould and plays real music on-air! read the full story on page 4! Well done to 99.5, it's cool to hear that these things sometimes get played in the US!
24 Fret, no it's not exactly like a letter in a "dear abby" column, cuz you got people here who can listen and try to help you out, so feel free to talk with us if you like! I'm sorry to hear you lost your girlfriend.....that's got to hurt.....I lost my dad nearly a year ago (and I never touched drugs in my life!)

I can recommend trying to do some of the normal things in your life.....don't stop and drop everything to grieve cause you'll make yourself depressed, and that is probably not the sort of attention this person would want......most people don't like the idea of that degree of focus being put on them! Take it easy, hope you sort out a place to stay!

OCPS470, Jenniffer in a metal band? not that I heard, but I could be well off the mark. I thought she basically went straight into the Michael Jackson thing!

Delfino, you get Total Guitar sometimes don't you mate? look in the ads in the back of there - you might find some luthier's numbers. I've found some before....but I couldn't say whether or not they advertise every month. Failing that, there's some places in Denmark Street, London. You could call them or e-mail them and they'll be able to give you some contact details cause guitar shops and the like all seem to know each other!
michelle, no you guys drive on the pavement! hehe. Thanks, I certainly won't be forgetting my camera! I think I might remove the scratch-plate from my Jem and take that......I don't want to take the whole guitar to London for a few days just for the sake of the 'off-chance'
Clarky, haha, damn right man (on subject of mongs with axes). and happy 1300 to you!
Ovation1, no problem, i'll pass that Aching Hunger message on! mental note - 1 's'
Mr Nick, he told you to leave just cause you wouldn't write down a scale shape? what a twat! Sounds like the sort of person who keeps teaching for the money rather than cause they want to. bastards.

tetovo, why do you not think the random drawing process is fair? I think it's possibly the fairest way of doing it, cause it means nobody can be accused of being biased. I think everyone deserves the same opportunity, but it'd suck if the random system randomly selected the same person every time!
dragonchild, haha, that's excellent about Mari gettin those passes. That's the sort of thing sahe needed just to make her trip perfect! great news! thanks for the update!
iplayalilbit, there's a guitar academy of some kind in Los Angeles. The syllabus for the course run there was written by Mr Frank Gambale, so I'd recommend finding out more about that - that'll teach you a thing or two
TheBob, i found it pretty easy to learn some basic drum, stuff. it's good fun - if you have a good natural sense of rhythm then you'll be okay with it.
Secret Prayer, Ceremony and The Crush of Love for G3 Ljubljana!
anybody watched any of the LeMans 24hrs coverage? yesterday evening two of the Audi R8 protos went off-track on some oil, in a 200mph corner, and hit the wall. Both had extensive damage to their front-left suspension and wheels, and to the front and rear bodywork.

They both managed to limp back to the pits where their teams removed and replaced the cowling and the suspension, in just half an hour! these guys are crazy! Alan McNish got concussed in the accident tho.
