The Forgotten (Part 2) and Speed Of Light for G3!

smalldude, the backstage and aftershow pass thing is a random event. There's a few passes available for each show as long as the venue agrees with it. I confess, I don't know how it works here at Joe's site, even tho this is the only site where I spend a lot of time, but on vai.com, they have a list of forth-coming shows, by date and venue, and you find the show that you have tickets for and write a message under that forum thread.

the system randomly chooses winners from the forum members who have posted under one or more of those threads saying 'i'm coming to this show'. There is nothing you can do to increase your chances of winning, making it fair cause it gives everyone an equal opportunity.

Ovation1, yeah man, LeMans was, as it so often is, brutal. Those Audi's were f*ck*d after the crash, yet the 4 Audi's finished in the top 5 positions! mental! Well I think that's how they finished - I turned the TV off 10 minutes before the end cuz I had to go, but I should think that's how it ended.
mischievous, thankyou too for all the G3 commercials! hehe. and hey, you picked up quick on my shout for Speed Of Light!! cool! I love that tune - I hardly ever listen to the Time Machine album cause most of it doesn't excite me, but I suddenly remembered a week or two ago that Speed Of Light and Crazy both rock!

Ceremony, The Crush Of Love and Secret Prayer for G3 Ljubljana!

Delfino, if you want a 7-string then buy Ibanez, cuz they've been doing it for ages, with the best help, and have the best results. Obviously the Universe is a lovely guitar (one of my college mates got one the other day.....it's a beauty, and plays nicely too) but the price-tag is painful.

An RG7 with a Floyd Rose type bridge ain't half a bad idea, and when yu get a bit of spare cahs you can drop some DiMarzio Blaze pickups in there so it'll sound like a Universe!

As for 6's.....what happened to the Ergodyne? 500 squid would get you a nice new Ergo with nice new DiMarzio or EMG pickups!! or Seymour Duncan if you go for their cheap models!

just make sure your friend doesn't try and convert you. I don't have a problem with people being religious, but if I am going to accept that they have their own point of view, I expect them to grace me with the same allowance!

By the way, Project Gotham 2 - the American Muscle Series is the worst!! Those cars are so cr*p, they drive like complete dogs. I'm glad i'm up to the 'Supercars' :P

OllyNo1, allright dude?! the Aftershow pass I won was from Vai.com. I just got an e-mail saying 'congrats....etc etc'. I hit the roof when I realised it wasn't a fraud! hehe!

I feel a little bad tho - I spend loadsa time here on t2j, and hardly any time on Steve's board.....this is because I only really have time to concentrate on one, and I prefer t2j cuz the single perl script makes it much more personal. phpBB2 style like Vai's board is too big and you never get to know anyone! sorry...went off a bit there.....anyway....yeah, I do feel a bit guilty about that, but i'm not complaining.

I endeavour to make my fortune worth-while, so heads up everyone....if you can think of some original questions you would like asked of any of the G3 members or their bands, I wanna know about them cuz you never know who you might bump into!

Delfino, I personally would say get an S-series over an RG, unless it's an RG-7. I only say that cuz the S's are kinda different, and they seem to be capable of everything an RG is - they're just made of mahogany and they're more comfortable. I still reckon those Ergo's rock tho! hehe

on Project Gotham.....i'm in the GT's now, nearly done. I didn't unlock the Feroce yet. It's in the specials garage.....how do you unlock those cars? is it at the end of the game, or is it in the Arcade tournaments?

Clarky/mari, guys, do you know when you're meeting up?

mari, i'm having a nightmare of a time trying to organise getting to London. It seems that my mate who I was going to stay with is cool with me staying, only he's not going to be there, so all the ideas we've come up with so far are going 'tits up', so to speak. I'm really annoyed that everyting happens to be coinciding at the same time. My suggestion would be this - if Clarky is interested in seeing the Beck show on thursday, give him the ticket, cause I really don't know if I can stay anywhere in London.

If that does happen, I can still come up for a day-trip on the train or coach, cause it's be cool to meet with you anyway. I haven't been to London for a while.....it'd be nice! I hope you get this message soon. I'll mail it to you as well.

Clarky, hope you read that too.....let me know if you have any thoughts on the matter! laters peeps!

cuthbert, there's nothing shaky about evolution! it's fact....you can see it happen. Things evolve, it's plain to see in the DNA sequences.
Brother Al, yeah I'm going to the Royal Albert on the 29th
Ovation1, thanks for the drive-by! messages for Joe and Steve have been noted! hehe. Yeah Audi have picked up LeMans where Porsche left off! they've got quite a way to go before they equal Porsche's record tho! Still, your aunt did the right thing in buying Audi - they are really very, very good cars. I want one......I can dream!!
Stacia 7, favourite guitar? it's gonna be an Ibanez Andy Timmons model, an Ernie Ball/Music-Man Luke Model, or a Washburn Nuno model. I think it comes down to one of the first 2 for their versatility, and possibly down to the EB/MM Luke for it's amazing piezo pickup!
michelle, haha, you f*in rock! If I were a kid playing online PS-2 games and people were hearing my mum playing drums in the background, i'd be proud! You are fun as shit! haha, I love that term!
Yoda, congrats on the date! with a girl as well! even better! hehe
Ollyno1, hehe, cheers dude. yeah it definitely adds to the excitement. by the way, DW is a cool guy ain't he? I mailed him a few years ago and he was really cool with his response!
Zenfish, 962 __ "I except them with the same allowance!". No comment. .....if you have no comment, then why did you post that? seems like it was kinda pointless to me!!
24 Fret mayhem, glad to see you back here dude. Take it easy, and keep us posted as to what you're up to!

cuthbert, and in an instant it all becomes pointless, cause whatever I can say to you about evolution you're just gonna say "well you can't prove it", and I don't have time for that.

There's plenty of info available on genetic evolution and it's evidence.

dragonchild, cool, thanks. I mailed that to mari as well, so if she doesn't say anything when you see her perhaps you could pass the message on!
Austin, cool question. if I get a chance I shall ask, it's quite an intrigueing one that!
SNKR, what is your point?

I think trutina comfortably covered everything I would have said!

Ovation1, 'Porsche all the way'......rock on bro! I'm most pleased to see you write that, as i'm quite a loyalist when it comes to Porsche! "if I had the money".....tell me about it!!
Zenfish, ok, sorry I misunderstood you. You too have a good point, and an excellent way of describing what it is to be "god-fearing". Man, your grammar is excellent, you make your sentences sound intellectual, which is nice because a lot of people don't bother anymore!
Austin, "We're having an intelligent discussion...what's so bad about that?".........hehe, yeah this one's going quite well. nobody's threatened to kill anybody else yet, which is unusual for debate about religion!
tetovo, sounds like a great night, please tell us more!
Young Bernie, careful what you say man! "you Americans"?!? hehe, not all of the 1.6 billion US citizens are heavily religious. Different areas of the US have also been exposed to different cultures, which greatly affects people's beliefs. For example, a lot of foreign people have moved into the coastal areas, like california and florida, and into the big business/industry towns like Chicago and new York. texas on the other hand (as an example), has had far less of the cultural mixup, and a lot of families are living where their ancestors alwasy have since the europeans first moved there.

At the time when the europeans were killing native americans, we were all christian/pagan/catholic and we took it all with us, so american people can hardly be accused of anything!

dragonchild, you got to hang out with the band? amazing!!
sorry, there's probably heaps of typing errors in this post, i'm rushing!

Eva and Mari, thanks both for your awesome reports on all things G3! Mari, what a cool adventure! See you soon I hope!
Delfino, haha, your teacher sounds like a complete slapper. what the f*ck?!? I hate it when they start goin off like that, assuming they can get away with it just cause they're "older and wiser" and you should be "watching who you're talking to". I mean why? Why should we treat someone narrow-minded and shallow differently to someone else narrow-minded and shallow, just because they're a teacher?
Noppa, did you not get your new contract in the post? damn, it must have got lost. You were invited to extend your stay at t2j to the 200-post mark, and the end-terms of this contract are negotiable! hehe. take it easy
so I finally caught up on 2-days posts. god i'm not looking forward to catching up after I go away for a week!

The Forgotten (Part 2) and Speed Of Light for G3!

Ovation1, haha, I think if I won a chance to Jam with vai, I would so fully embarrass myself i'f die! I would look so sh*t if I played in front of him, it'd be side-splittingly funny! haha, i'd almost be tempted to have someone film it so I could watch the comedy afterwards! I wonder if any measures will be taken to ensure that the winner is, themself, a pretty decent player.

By the way, on Porsche, have you checked out their new baby, the Carrera GT? if so, what do you think?

hey you guys who have been e-mailing Dave Weiner.....is his mail address still daveweiner1@aol.com?

edit: scrub that, cause I stopped being a dumb sh*t and just looked on his (new) website. e-mail sent, I really hope Shove The Sun Aside doesn't sell out before I get to buy a copy!

Delfino/civgeek, yeah that's right, it was me who asked about the unlocking of specials in PGR2! hehe, delfino, I saw your response tho, thanks! I'm up to ultimates now!

civgeek, yeah you gotta play GTA sometimes.....it's such good stress-relief!

Robert Fripp's diary entries were really interesting to read! I love the still life photos too!
clarky, I am so not ROTFLMAO! dude, you are too not funny, I can't even start to ot explain. hey what's the plan with Bournemouth anyway, is everyone intending to not meet up? it'd be cool to not meet some fellow t2j-ers!
On the subject of the Bible, did any of you hear that in the last few years, a lot of material has been recovered indicating that the romans had many parts of the Bible omitted, edited or replaced, because it showed the Roman empire in a bad light?
cuthbert, I take the word fact as a word to indicate something that is factual! how else would I tae it? I mean, I take a world-atlas as something factual, because I think there is scientific evidence that it is correct. That said, I couyld be wrong.......there is absolutely no scientific proof that "The Matrix" is not a documentary. It is entirely possible that none of us exist in the form we think we do, that we are all a generation of data, not physical, biological material. The world we live in and the history we are taught could all be fabricated, but I somehow doubt that.

In the same way that I doubt 'god made the world'. that's becasue I am a loyal atheist and I believe in no god, and I believe that science is better founded.

but science is bad - science has resulted in what will surely be our own demise. First we created powerful weapons, then we created bombs, then atom boms, then chemical bombs, and now we're having fun playing around with human genetic code.

Excellent, we're all going to live forever in the fear of being wiped out, in an overpopulated world where the thing we do best is kill each other.

yeah, this is the beauty of the world we're living in.

The Forgotten (Part 2) and Speed Of Light for G3!

cuthbert, hmm, you have a good point about the implements of war. Let me revise my statement, cause you're right. A tank and a Nuclear warhead are not dangerous. it's the people that use them who are dangerous. On that basis I could probably go as far as to say that science is good, but when it gets into the hands of people who don't understand it's implications, it becomes a ruining force. I guess the leading researchers found out that cloning was possible, then the information on how to do it became available to people who stupid and want to mess about with human cells.

This I suppose is why I don't like science - it is allowed into the hands of people who don't know how to use it properly. However, I do think that science is well educated, and I take a lot of scientific findings as fact, although nothing can be 100% proven, like I said before. I should think I probably take fact as something that can be proven beyond reasonable doubt.

I'm certain that the scientists know their sh*t.....for example, the procedures taken on my dad to try to save him were mind-blowing. They failed but looking back on it, now a year later, I'm amazed by the things that were tried.

Jazzy Boy, ....and then use the Bible as a slide.....hahahahaha! I shouldn't find that so funny, but I can't help it. hehehe. thanks!
JS_JS, the main melody for Speed Of Light is pretty easy going, so I'm sure you and your friend will find it easy to learn. Glad you like my song choices! I think they both have just so much energy, in different ways, and they would work so well on stage, it'd definitely give me chills. Just like FIABD did when I saw Joe a couple of years ago.
Joe, the subject of your stolen guitar(s?) has come up again, and has made me wonder something - do you have a record of the serial numbers of what went missing? if you do you should publish them on the site so we can look out for them! Someone stupid enough to nick your 'Pearly' could well be stupid enough to put it in a shop or on ebay.
Austin, I think crack meant that 1+1 in binary = 0, not 2=0!
Crack, string theory? yeah I read something about that too - I have the most limited understanding of it possible, but it sounds interesting. Do you properly understand string-theory? if so, do you have any way of explaining it to simple people like me?! hehe
Ovation1, regards Carrera GT Engineering, I thought you might appreciate the engineering aspect of it. It's pretty awesome. I was making a close inspection of the chassis and engine at the motorshow the other week - it's incredible. It's also the first all-carbon chassis to be built into a production car. Loads of people have made carbon chassis before, but they have used alluminium sub frames to support the drivetrain.

That's quite promising, wat you said about the caliber of guitarists who have been aloud to jam with Pablo! I hope the same measures are taken with Vai. have a cool weekend, sensai!

The New Hendrix, Atheists don't always try to prove god doesn't exist using science. We don't need to prove he doesn't exist because we already believe that he doesn't exist.

I was referring to scientific research and discovery in the context of evolution. Science 'proves beyond reasonable doubt' the theory of evolution. I don't believe in god so therefore I don't believe that god created the earth. This runs alongside my belief that evolution is fact, rather than my using the theory of evolution as proof that god doesn't exist. Like I said, I don't need to prove he doesn't exist.

Some people like to have a faith in something intangible, but atheists, like me, choose not to, it's as simple as that.

civgeek, haha, i don't think there is really any point to GTA. you're just meant to become the number one mobster, with everyone working for you....something like that. I just like it for the same reason as you - blowing sh*t up and taking my anger out on people without getting the death sentence.
Noppa, thanks for the cool G3 reviews! This is really fuelling my excitement, I can't wait!
Ovation1, yeah there's some pictures of said Carrera GT on my webshots page. just click the "cars, motorshows" album, and I think the C-GT pics are on page 2 or 3, after the mini you saw before!

by the way, I think Mr Nick meant that F1 cars are physically bigger in size than they look, and he's right. that's something that surprised me a bit - the C-GT chassis cannot be much bigger than that of an F1 car, although it is wider.

Gee 3, that's "flag", not "frat"!
Clarky, ashamedly, no i don't know of a Pub close to the BIC! I don't go to bournemouth too often, and when I do I don't get time to stop for a swift half! I'm going to be in bournemouth all day tho. My suggestion would be this - some of you guys hand over your mobile numbers (assuming you have 'em) and I can easily meet you at the BIC. As soon as we gather a small crowd together it'll make things easier.
Delfino, cars....the engineering involved in a car that you don't get in a bike is just mind-blowing. I respect bikes and people who know how to ride them, but I hate young kamikazee bikers who spend 2 grand on a 180mph racing bike and ride it at full-throttle on the road. it's the quickest route to getting wiped out. Then again, it's probably better they only kill themselves, and don't do it in a car where they'll kill others as well.

oops, went off a bit there! sorry! oh yeah, I unlocked the Feroce and 911 GT1. SWEET!!!

The Forgotten (Part 2) and Speed Of Light for G3!

Delfino, the Feroce on PGR2 isn't as nice as PGR. It's more slippery, but it's bloody quick. It blitzes the rest of the class, and that's what matters!
marimariSRV, noooooo!!!!! You went to salisbury? that's where I go every day.....I could so easily have met you! I wish i'd have known you were going to salisbury! dammit. I'm glad you had a good day tho!
Ovation1, yeah I was pleased I got that engine pic. So there's a lot of aircraft-engineering crossing over? that's interesting....sounds about right tho....the things that car companies are doing these days are immensely complex.

On F1 cockpits being small, yeah they look kinda cramped. I sat in a Caterham Superlight R-something at the motorshow, and it was the tiniest space I have ever parked my ass in. One thing is for sure - Fat people can't drive caterhams! I reckon it'd be hard work on a long drive.

XtrChessReal, about the trem arm hitting the volume know when it's in the 'split' position - that's nothing unique, don't worry! you'll get that on all JS1000's, although it did surprise me a bit first time I did it.....surely that could have been better planned?!?

regards DVDs, Live In San Fran is the best for looking at Joe's technique.

Austin, haha, i never knew that, in GTA, if you pick up a hooker it puts your health up to 125%! that's cool. Make sure you get your bro to get VC back......you gotta try the vigilante mission with the 'Hunter' (Apache) helicopter! you'll find it at the army base, it's so much fun!
Artanis I, why so cold? is it just cause it's mid-winter and you have no heating or something? Cool post, thanks for the effort! hehe
Joe, hope you're enjoying the tour. One question, have you heard of a guy called Igor Belsky? He's definitely worth checking out!

his Debut album at Guitar 9.com: http://www.guitar9.com/roadtested.html I recommend downloading "Eastern Flier" mp3

his website: http://www.igorbelsky.com

OllyNo1, i'm gonna be in bournemouth all day, with two mates of mine. I mailed Clarky my mobile number. if you give me your mail address I'll mail it to you as well!

alternatively, yourself, jelly man, Yoda, Ibanez_jem and Danny_js100 could all mail me with your mobile numbers, assuming you have mobiles....it'd make it far easier to meet up!

if you all want to then feel free to mail to: airman_siro@yahoo.co.uk

Ovation1, the bitter irony - fat people would get thin if they drove caterhams, but they can't, cause they're too fat! haha!

dude, did you get Igor's album, or have you been listening to the MP3 samples? either way, I'm glad you're liking him. he is really amazing, and considering Road tested is his first album, on which he did everything, I can't wait to see what his future holds. that's kinda why I'd really like Joe to give him a listen.

Masterpick, I'd say buy Flying In A Blue Dream, as it's old but really really varied - it's got vocal stuff, blues stuff, ballads, all out shreddy madness, and is a sure demonstration of Joe's diversity as well as pioneering technique. At the time Joe recorded this, nobody was playing the way he was....he must have been one of very few people playing shred-style structures legato, with a strong mixture of the best taste in the industry.

I'm not sure I consider Crystal Planet "old", although it is 8 years old now (!!!!). but yeah, definitely get it....it's an equally amazing record, slightly more modern sounding, perhaps less varied, but an equal contender to FIABD.

UF Dean, hell yeah, a crossfire would be an excellent choice! It's the first really conservative american car I've seen on the modern market, and at least some consideration to efficiency was taken into it's design. It's good lookin too, and I bet it's a killer drive. I don't doubt that it'd kick the ass off your camaro in many respects.
Greyfox, yes Vai is doing Halo 2!! cool!
Secret Prayer, Ceremony and The Crush of Love for G3 Ljubljana!
I think Robert Fripp is a good 3rd 'G'. it's nice to have variation, and it's good for people to be exposed to something different once in a while. how can we complain? it's still a G3 show, a relatively rare thing, it must be pointed out.

Still, I guess some will never be satisfied....to quote Kenny Wayne Shepherd: You will never be satisfied, you're gonna chase the rainbow blind

edit: jelly man, thanks, i got your mail! If I get a chance i'll sort us out with a length of lining-paper and a marker pen, and we can write a crazy-ass banner!

how about Giant Fruit Suits For G3! ehem

The Forgotten (Part 2) and Speed Of Light for G3!

Museman, my bad, I stand corrected on the Crystal Planet release! 6 years....hmm, it is still a new one then! hehe.
IceZer, Robben Ford is cool. If you want to hear some decent blues guitar records I'd recommend his Blue Moon record, as well as Eric Clapton/BB King - Riding With The King and Various Artists - A tribute To Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Robben has a nice tone from his Tele, and a fantastic voice. he also plays some really interesting phrases and solos throughout his songs......he definitely knows his shit!

JS_JS, yeah Vai is doing halo 2 as in he's doing the music! pretty cool huh? The soundtrack in Halo 1 was pretty awesome, so I can't wait for this. I don't think it's been on his news page yet, but I seem to remember it being rumoured for a few days then he or one of his webmasters confirmed it.
marimariSRV, don't worry, there's no way you would have known you were in my area! It's a shame tho, I feel bad for not meeting with you, especially since Eva was such a good host!
Artanis I, hehe, thanks for the explanation! I gather it gets pretty bloody cold in Aus in winter? We get it pretty easy here in the UK - our anual temperature range is about 35 degrees. It's boring tho!
I'm in a Dream Theater mood at the mo. yesterday I listened to 6 Degrees and Images and Words. 2 cracking albums, it must be said. Right now i'm listening to the new Train Of Thought album......it's pants. Now I remember why I never bothered listening to it all.

The intro to Endless Sacrifice (track 3) is pretty, but that's it so far!

Zenfish, right on. And to elaborate on my "it's good to have (G3) variation" comment - We've had some varied characters - Eric Johnson, Jon Petrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen, Robert Fripp, among others. They're all different, I guess the problem here is that Fripp chooses not to spend a large part of his solo set playing lots and lots of notes and making a lot of noise. Instead he chooses to exhibit his signature style, and then shred on the Jam.

Before anyone drops a rocket down my throat (cuz that's a lot more messy than just jumping down it), the other guys I mentioned did good sets, I know that. Especially EJ, his solo set was the best!

Clarky, I mailed you my number the other day. Yeah i'll mail it to Yoda too. cheers mate!
Olly, got your mail, thanks!
Alexandre, Buenas dias amigo! hows things with you dude? I'm dead excited about this-coming weekend, 3 shows in a row! I'll try and get some photos to come out, especially on the meet+greet! And it goes without saying, I'll have a full report!

Jelly Man, Stream Of Consciousness is okay.........dance of Eternity? that's not on Train of Thought, or at least I can't see it listed on the cover. is it a bonus track? I dunno, I think I just find ToT a bit shallow. the tones, layers and structures aren't quite as satisfying as the older stuff like Images And Words and Awake. 6DOIT was awesome, although Images And Words is slowly surpassing it in my opinion.

yeah you got it on the nail i think - I prefer the progressive aspect to the metal aspect, but the extent of the metal sound to their previous albums is just right!

Clarky, got your mail, thanks. This is lookin cool, we should all be able to get together! yay! t2j really makes things easy, i love it.
Interesting article there about evolution theory affecting F1 cars and their drivers. unfortunately it has a big hole in it - the theories and experiments were on a mathematical basis, not a physical basis, and the thing that really limits a formula one cars/drivers performance is the damage to the human body.

On a computer game you don't have to put up with cornering at 4 or 5 G, you can just boot it. The way to end the schumacher domination of the sport is to develope a good car...it just happens that ferrari have the best package right now, and the best money. Everybody comes and goes.

Valentino Rossi, superbike champion, spent a weekend with the Ferrari f1 team, and got within 1 second of Schumacher's lap record at Ferrari's own test track. That says a lot for the car.

Supaadave, that's a shame to hear about the disappointment with the bassist. I don't understand people like that. Some players are straight as an arrow but get really wound up because they aren't very good, or at least they want to be better, then you get people who could be really excellent if they weren't completely drugged up all the time. what a waste, especially of your time.
Austin, thanks, I knew i'd seen something official about Halo 2 somewhere!
Joe, on Igor Belsky, I now know that you've met him and you have his CD, so er...sorry for telling you something you already know! I'd like to knoiw what you think of him tho? I think he's pretty cool, and I can't wait to get his 2 new albums.....they're out and will be on sale at your show at the Royal Albert Hall! he said he's "doing some networking". Will that include you guys? hehe
Delfino, funy, I've been having a Dream Theater moment the last few days too. maybe it's the (sh*t) weather!
Quote of the day, i just wanted to tell u that i really admire the way u play..it makes me feel great sensations, shakes my soul - 'Lula Rock'

"shakes my soul" is such a good way of putting it!

aardvark, i'm guessing you got that Jeff Beck ticket from Mari? that's great news, I was really p*ss*d off that I couldn't make that. I hope it's a good show, give us a report on how it turns out!
jelly man/austin/michelle, i'm listening to Dance of Eternity now.......it is better live on the DVD than on the studio recording. There's some heavy-ass rhythm changes in there, almost as bad as The Mirror!

jelly man, yeah I love Jordan Rudess too....I gotta get me that 'evening with...' CD, looks cool. I love it when he slips in the old silent-movie type keyboard playing as a solo, like on Dance Of Eternity, very cool indeed!

Ovation1, yeah F1 technology and military aeronautical technology is rapdily converging. F1 tactics too - last year at one of the Grand Prix's, the RAF, or Army Air Corps or something, had a group of engineers watching how F1 pit crews work, so that they can turn a Lynx, Apache or Longbow around quicker in combat situations!

VFRocker/Ovation1, yeah definitely a testament also to Valentino's skill as a racer, he really knows his racing theory, but to get that close to Schumi at home.......that's really something!

edit: Dammit, I need to watch the DT Live in new york DVD more often, or listen to Scenes From A Memory CD more often. The whole thing with the gospel choir is beautiful, and Petrucci's connection with the nice Gospel lady is top-notch, what a great sound!

The Forgotten (Part 2) and Speed Of Light For G3!

Master Yoda, dude, do you not see my posts or something?! hehe, anyway, i'm kinda co-ordinating the G3 Bournemouth get-together.....I have some mobile numbers so we can all make sure we meet up. I'll be in bournemouth all day. I have Clarky's number, and it looks like you're getting a lift with him, so I'll see you two mid-afternoon some time! See you sunday!

Yoda/OllyNo1, yes the b'mouth G3 ticketrs are 28 quid plus 1 pound fee on top.

IceZer, you bought 2 t-shirts? what kind of tour shirts are on sale? dammit I gotta restrain myself - I have no money but I gotta buy Belsky's 2 new albums and Weiner's new album. shit!
OCPS470, dude, those Fender shell picks are a bastard to find! Everyone around where I live (within an hour of home) sells Dunlop USA, or "cool picks" which usually have a picture of a woman's butt in a G-string on them. yeah, cuz I really give a shit about having a plectrum with a picture on it. I had to make-do with some Gibson heavy's, which are okay, but I still want to try those Fenders!
On the subject of guitar-technical stuff, I kinda fixed my Jem! I took it apart! Well, I took the bridge out and took it to my regular people, where the manager went at the knife edge with a needle file and some fine wet+dry paper. The edge was very slightly worn and pitted, as was one of the bridge posts, which he replaced. I brought it home and put the bridge back in, and set it up myself. I've never done that before, so that was kinda satisfying!
Ovation1, damn right bro.....Valentino for G3! hehe. yeah it's pretty cool about the military watching the F1 crews - it used to take them a couple of hours to turn an Apache round ready for another assault. Now they can do it in about 20 minutes.
trutina, hahaha, that was damn funny man! Hows things? hope you're cool......don't turn into a virtual-pool-nerd. you wouldn't fit in...you're too funny!

jelly man, you got mail! See you on sunday. oh, what time do you reckon you'll get to bournemouth?
Ovation1, thanks for that Rich Harris tech setup link! that come in handy. yeah I'm pleased I got the Jem setup again....it seems to be doing okay, but i'm kinda disappointed with it. The quality of the bits you can't normally see - cavities and so on - is piss-poor. The bridge-post inserts are pretty bad too, and now I understand what people mean when they say Ibanez bridges are made out of 'pot-metal'. It's okay tho.....the thing i'm most bothered with right now is finding a decent tone.....i'm forever struggling with it, I haven't felt like i'm in control of the sounds i'm playing for months. nevermind, it keeps me outta trouble! hehe
OCPS470, hell yeah, i wanna see pics of your new baby when it's finished! You must be getting pretty excited about it! Thanks for the fender link. added to favourites!

The Forgotten (Part 2) and Speed Of Light for G3!

I got excited when I saw Vai's news headline about the forthcoming release of the Live At The Astoria CD. but no, it's sony's little money-maker again. They've selected some tracks from the show and are selling them, and the 1st 500 people to order online gets an autographed copy from Steve, which is f*ck*ng classic, since that is only open to people in the US, and the show was hosted right here in the UK.

by the way peeps, you know in the G3 03 CD liner it says "put these CD's in your computer then go to satriani/vai/yngwie's website to acces bonus footage left out of the DVD". I looked here on joe's site and found nothing!

Delfino, do you have a passport/provisional driving license/student card/bank card....any of those things as long as you have something with a photo saying it's you. A railcard even!
Jazzy Boy, hahaha, it would have been far funnier if yo7u really had had the bad dream of Joe singing Lifestyle with a brit accent! I can just imagine it, like a really bad estuary accent, sounding like a bit of a geezer. "Mi lifestyyyyyaalllll, is killin meeeeeeyyyyyyyy (guv'nor) and if I daon't do sumfink bout it therelll be nuffink left of meeeeeeeyyyy (mate).

Yeah, that would be bad. Don't worry I won't be throwing any darkness CD's at you - I wouldn't wish that on anyone! haha

by the way, it's Bournemouth, not bonehermouth! as in, the mouth of the river Bourne. Yeah we have wessex, essex and sussex, as in west, east and south, but I dunno what the sex bit is, I think it's something to do with saxon names. No north-sex......curious that!

Delfino, I'm with faye on this one, you're too funny! Just take Yngwie-cat, and threaten to rub in in their faces.....that is sure to do the trick!
Ovation1, yeah I know I shouldn't really complain about Ibanez build quality, cuz if it's good enough for the likes of Joe and Steve, then it's obviously good enough for me. that said, Joe and Steve don't have to pay the best part of 2 grand-a-piece for theirs. I also want to justify, for myself, the desire to buy a Luke model! hehe.

you have a good weekend too Sensai. G3 tomorrow! Yay!

Delfino, cool, your connexions card will do it. I was told to apply for a connexions card when I joined college, so i did apply, and promptly got a letter back from connexions saying "you're too old to apply for this card". dumb twats!

Ovation1, thanks for your supportive comments man, I do think there is something to be said for a little care and quality control when people are paying that much. I looked at the price of carvin guitars direct from the US earlier. If I sold my Jem, and earned some money into the bank just for good measure, I could so easily get a really nice, custom-spec guitar and I kinda get the impression it'd be nicely made. By all accounts of people right here on t2j, Carvin tend to be really good with the customer end. I certainly like the work that has gone into my amp. I don't think it's got the same consistency or reliability as something like a Boogie or H&K, but its sufficient for me!

Thanks for the good wishes, i'm sure G3 tomorrow will be a blast! I wish you could have the opportunity to see it too. Oh well, hopefully you'll get an asian tour from these guys soon. Fingers crossed for Paul Gilbert for Asian G3!

G3 Bournemouth people, i think enough of us have shared phone numbers. Give me a call or text when you get to the bic and let me where you are (in the lobby, on the steps, whatever), and i'll come looking, bearing a piece of A4 with 't2j' written on it! See y'all soon!

Young Bernie, 257 quid isn't quite $1760! But it is good for a JS100....go for it!
mischievous, hehe, 3 shows. G3 tonight, Toto tomorrow night, G3 again on Tuesday night! yeah i'm crazy, and yeah, I won an aftershow pass for Tuesday's gig, so no bummer! hehe. I'll see if I can get some decent photos of people. I really hope I get to meet Billy Sheehan, he cracks me up!
Delfino, dude, thanks for your review, sounds awesome. I can't wait for this meet and greet thing, sounds like it could turn out pretty amazing!
marimariSRV, damn right, you should play an instrument! you should start playing guitar or bass or something. maybe you and michelle could hook up and play drums together! hehe. Can't wait to see your photos!

G3 Bourenmouth, the verdict:

Disappointing. There were two main reasons for this - the p*ss-poor sound quality and the fact that we couldn't see Robert Fripp.

Robert Fripp set: It was cool. You have to be open-minded about these things, and for people to boo him off because they don't like it is apalling. It's 20 minutes, the soundscape is interesting. It's a real slap in the face that 40% of the high-paying audience can't see him. If you could get to see him and what he's doing it would also be a lot more interesting, but I didn't mind it.

It also served as a great build up to Vai's set.

Vai was amazing, he was completely the nucleus of the show. his band really looked like they were having a good time, they made a few mistakes but enjoyed them, they played an awesome setlist too. Steve opened with "You're here" and seemed to struggle with it a bit at the beginning, but when he stood up it all cleaned up nicely. "The Reaper", "Whispering A Prayer", "For The Love Of God", "Juice", "Get The Hell Out Of Here", all got played, along with a few others.

The sound quality on Steve's set wasn't too bad, but the tone was nasty. Of everybody in the whole show, Tony McAlpine had the best tone - his notes flowed smoothly and were comfortable on the ear. Billy is just a god, he is too cool! I would have gone to G3 just to see him, and he really seemed to enjoy it. I was disappointed when I first found out Steve had dispatched Virgil Donati and taken on Jeremy Colson as his drummer, but I do see his point - Jeremy is awesome! He uses a fairly simple Tama kit, but puts so much energy into it!

There was quite a long break as they re-set the (small) stage for Joe. Joe was okay but the sound quality for his set was awful. his setlist was kinda dull, but it was nice to hear "Cool # 9" and "Flying In A Blue Dream" in there. He had a damn hat on again.....it's not a good touch! I still don't like his new tone. It's great for the rhythm parts, like in "Up In Flames", but when it comes to playing lead/solo breaks, you can barely hear what he's doing. It's too thin and metally, and has a shrill, uncomfortable piercing frequency on top. When he starts using his wah, that's it - every note he plays turns to percussive squelching, not the fat, undulating tone that he used to get, a-la-Live In San Francisco.

Joe's band didn't look too enthused by the performance. The feeling of "just another day at the office" was noticeable. Joe was in a good, funny mood tho - he was politely cheeky to people shouting requests from the back of the hall, which he obviously couldn't understand.

The jam set was the worst. Joe couldn't even introduce Robert Fripp, until the show had finished. The sound quality was the worst on the Jam, and everything the 3 guitar players did turned to soup. The bass and the bass tones from the drums and guitars must surely have wrecked a few grand's-worth of PA speakers. It was just too loud, and the speakers were farting like a horse.

They jammed on "Ice 9", which was too fast (in my opinion), a bit of "The Reaper" and a new King-Crimson-Inspired piece called "Red", which didn't move me at all. And of course, finished with "Rockin In A Free World", which I still don't like. From what I could see and, occasionally, hear, Fripp played the best solos. Joe's and Steve's solos came out more as noise. Oh and Fripp was still sat on a stool in one corner, so I moved so I could actually see him.

I have a killer headache this morning, and I'm seeing Toto tonight. I hope that's a good show. I'll be getting ear plugs today! I have the hope that the sound quality of the Royal Albert Hall is going to be excellent, and I'm going to find that show much more enjoyable. if it turns out the same, at least I'll have three hours to go and get something to eat before the aftershow meet+greet takes place.

Toto, London, The verdict:

Bloody amazing!! It was really cool.

The support act was a couple of guys playing and singing blues-folk, which I personally found kinda tiresome. not my thing at all. It was mostly strummed out of a bunch of acoustics, apart from one song on electric. Still, they're good at what they do.

Toto came on after a quick resetting of the stage, and they were immediately on fire. I've not been a Toto fan for very long so there was a lot they played that I didn't know, but there were some classics I recognised, and the show was kinda split into parts by solo sets from Simon Phillips (Drums) who is incredible, Steve Lukather who was also incredible, and a guest keyboard player, cause David Paich couldn't be there.

Lukather was really charged, and he was playing really well. his tone was really nice too. Bobby Kimball (singer) was also on it, and the two of them had the stage presence to fill the Royal Albert Hall. The sound was really good - the guy on the desk actually knew what he was doing, more than can be said fro the geezer in bournemouth - and the light show that went with it was excellent. The interaction with the audience was good too, and the band all looked like they were having a good time.

I definitely want to see these guys again, they know how to put on an excellent show.

and i still want a Luke model :(

Austin, if I get a chance, i'll ask about Gnaah! cheers for the reminder.....I actually had forgotten!
Clarky, my mate Alex, the tall geezer with the eyebrow-piercing, referred to you as the 'Aristotle of music' - he really took in what you were saying about writing music until you write something you like, and writing in your head, not on the guitar. Cheers mate!
Ollyno1, I know, i'm sorry we didn't get much of a chance to talk, but hey, you live near me so we could probably meet some time or other! Glad you enjoyed the show!

jelly_man, thanks for the correctioon on Red. From what they said I thought it was new. Well, i still didn't like it, but that's not Fripp's fault. I wonder if i'm the only one who has thought Fripp was actually bloody good?! hehe
Clarky, Yoda, jelly_man, OllyNo1, sorry guys, I remember saying before the show it was a decent size stage and the sound was good.

When I saw Eddie Izzard last year the stage was extended, and the sound guy wasn't just goin nuts playing wth all those crazy little knobs and sliders. Oooh, I wonder what this does? BRAAAAANNGGGGGGGHHH whoops

The Forgotten (Part 2) and Speed Of Light for G3!

Joe, I just wanted to say thanks again. It was a pleasure to meet you last night....er....this morning actualy. Thank you for accepting my dad's guitar pick from my sister (sally) and I, we were touched, and I'm sure my dad would have loved to have met you and talked!

You're truly an inspiration, and put on a thoroughly excellent show! I hope you and the gang are enjoying your day off in Paris. Best regards and good luck for the rest of the tour!

Austin, I remembered your question! Joe says that when he went into the studio, tere was some indecisiveness about Gnaah. It was sggested that the firs track of the new album should have a more pronouncable name, so joe came up with Supernova, but te record company said tey liked Gnaah so that's what got printed!
Billy Sheehan and Jeff Campitelli f*in rock, they're both so nice. I also spent about half an hour (cumulatively) hangin out with Igor Belsky, who is equally nice. he's too modest for his own god! hehe.

Joe, I know you guys never get a chance to listen to CD's people give you, but I seriously recommend holding onto Igor's, and give them half an hour when you et some time off at the end of the tour!

OCPS470, I'm glad we're agreed on the JSX tone! hehe. I must say, with the excellent acoustics in the Royal Albert Hall, it did sound nicer, but I still prefer (surprisingly) what I heard from the Cornford heads in London 2 years ago!
I will post a proper G3 review soon, probably at the weekend, but I wil say this - G3 London made G3 Bournemouth look like a different group of bands. And I could see Fripp, and he was really impressive. God please damn the people who were so rude and short-sighted, he is a fascinating musician.
Anyone in the UK want a Jem? I want about a grand......that's as good as half price.
IbanezGuitarist, yeah it was me who nearly sparked up my house trying to get rid of a couple of thousand bees.
Master Yoda, gak.co.uk is the cheapest that I know of for online gear-buying.
burnoutsuperman, you almost can't get a clean sound out of a Laney GH100?? take my advice, and use a single coil pickup with the volume rolled back a little. There's your clean sound.
mowlie, joe wasn't pissed from the aftershow party. he was in there signing autographs for as long as you waited. While you were driving home, he was driving to Paris. He's not obliged to stop at the door to see another 60 fans....In wouldn't. Don't take it too hard bro. At least you enjoyed the show....it was pretty impressive!
alexandre, no I missed your website link bro. post it again if you don't mind!

IceZer, sorry I didn't really understand your post. did say something wrong?
burnoutsuperman, I know what you mean tho. I watched Paul Gilbert just-about eeking out a clean tone from his laney on the Guitar Wars DVD! pretty funny, bu it sounded god.

Good cab? I wouldn't go for marshall....I mean, they're okay, but the build quality is crap, especially when you want to move it. At least they're cheap!

Austin, you're welcome dude! And thanks for the link to alexandre's site.

By the way, when I talked to Joe, I said to him that I was greatly disappointed at the poor reception that Robert Fripp has been getting, and that I loved his set and it was great to see him backing up Joe on some of his solo set too. Joe said it was an honour to work with him and he is a truly great, and fascinating, musician.

It makes me mad when I hear rude, ignorant f*cks in the audience completely ruining the atmosphere by yeling it's got six strings. use them which is why I yelled SHUT UP in return.

I would happily see Robert Fripp on another G3 tour, just to make a point, and to piss these assholes off, and because he was second best only to Eric Johnson!

mowlie, don't get me wrong, I can understand disappointment. But try not to get angry at Joe for it, cause you gotta bear in mind, if he were to stop to give you 5 seconds of his time, he'd have to do the same for everyone.

I also know what you mean about ignorant pass-winners who don't desewrve to be there - there were some reall assholes down there. I really wanted to talk to Dave Weiner just for 2 minutes, and there was some twat chewing his ear off about amps and pedals, talking about what setup he uses at home, and whether reel-to-reel is still better than recording to hard disk. Like he gives a sh*t.

And then when I tried to ask a question, this guy interrupts and says "how old are you dave?". You can find that out on his damn website!!!

alexandre, nice site dude. It's straight-forward and it makes sense, which I love. I can't stand websites that confuse the hell out of me. No flash movies, equaly good - I hate flash unless it's really worthwhile, it slows things down beyond belief, unless you have commercial broadband. I also like the choice of colours and photography, it's all visually pleasing! nice one amigo!
marimariSRV, can't wait to see some of those photos! Cause none of mine will have come out!
OCPS470, I got your mail, but i'm staying with m sister at the moment, so i'll have to download the mp3 at the weekend. I can't wait to hear it, after what i've heard from you already!
Ovation1, to clarify, I didn't give Joe Igor's CD - Igor gave Joe Igor's CD! hehe, Igor belsky f*in rocks man, he's the mutts nuts! I didn't get a chance to mention future G3 options to joe - was to busy making my best efforts to get it across that somebody liked Fripps set! hehe, I felt bad for Joe and Robert about that. I barely got to talk to Steve at all, he'd had enough. but, he confirmed the "Aching Hunger" CD, and that Lotus Feet has been cut to the new studio record, and he thinks it's his best guitar ballad, with which I obviously agreed! hehe
Brother Al, there were about 60 people downstairs in the aftershow party. I should think joe was pretty sick of photos and autographs ( i didn't take photos of anyone, it'd annoy me if it were me). Whenever people wait outside the venue after the show, they should wait without expectation. I was lucky winnin a pass, but I didn't expect to meet Joe or Steve. I wouldn't have been surprised if these guys had hidden cause they were all shattered.
civgeek, Salma Hayek. OOOOH BABY! right on bro!

The Forgotten (Part 2) and Speed Of Light for G3!

IceZer, cool thanks for clearing that up! I kinda missed your message which you were half-apologising for, hence my confusion! hehe.
I'm just listening to Dave Weiner's "Shove The Sun Aside". It's a great record, there's some interesting influences in there, and cool tones.

I also got Igor Belsky's 2 new records, "Equilibrium" and "Time Sensitive", both of which I checked out this evening. AWESOME. I really recommend that people check this guy out, he kicks ass.

mowlie, yeah in hindsight, I do regret not slapping that boring twat with a dead donkey. I really should have interrupted and got Shove The Sun Aside signed, and talked with dave. Nevermind, i'll mail him with my thoughts on the CD anyway. I guess i'm just too polite! hehe
Ovation1, no problem man, inside scoop is always fun! hehe. yeah I dunno if Joe was surprised at what I said about Robert....it doesn't matter, the important thing to me was to make it clear that I wasn't just another ignorant asshole who thought Fripp was crap cause he didn't shred his guitar up into tiny pieces. There were a couple of kids there, one with a Jem, one with a JS, and I thought, I wonder how many of those damn things these guys have to practice writing their name on?

Actually it was funny, Igor disappeared for a bit and came back, and was chatting to me and my sister at the bar. He says "mate, I just been outside, and there's so many people out there. There's, like, 60 people waiting at the door.....all with their Jems! haha"

Jem with signatures on....Vai clone alert! I don't want that, so I just got my Strat scratch-plate signed by Joe, Steve, Igor, Jeff and Billy, and it's gonna go up on my wall.

Happy Canada day for yesterday!
Austin, "The mutts nuts", haha, pleased you liked it dude! I only heard it a few months ago, and I try to use it as often as possible in the right contexts, but you gotta use it in the right places, otherwise "the dog's bollocks" just sounds a lot better!
OCPS470, dude, just checked out your mp3. Nice tune man, I can't wait to hear more on that. Man, you're pretty ace at this whole guitar lark, you come up with some cool-ass tunes and arrangements. This particular creation will sound ace with a hard drum beat and a screaming solo in there somewhere! Nice work, keep me posted!

By the way, was it recorded with the new Chelee?

And I gotta say, I'm with you on "Frankenstein" as a G3 jam song!

Austin, haha, that's pretty bad about that Joe clone....with the jem! hehe. I just find it all kind of embarrassing for the fans doing it....they don't realise what a bunch of tits they can look like sometimes. Something I absolutely did not want to do was talk to Joe or Billy or Steve or Dave or anyone about guitars and amps and techno-jargonistic crap that they must get sick of!

I took great interest in what I saw in the aftershow party - there's a certain culture to the whole business, especially among the kids.

michelle, hell yeah, you gotta bag you that STSA CD! I have to say, I am quite surprised at Dave with this. He's only 27, his career has basically consisted of being Vai's sidekick, and that could have made things go terribly wrong for him, from the musical creativity point of view.

But no, he has his individual style, and the arranging of his tracks is really good. I have to say, hat's off to Dave for a great debut. I'd be well interested to see the atmosphere he'd carry on stage in his own solo show!

Ovation1, yeah the scratchplate is going to look pretty ace on my wall! Bit of a madhouse in the aftershow - kind of, but civilised enough that the bouncers didn't get angry. It did mean however, that by the time me and my sister got to see Steve, he'd had enough and was chatting with some friends. I can't blame him tho....they must all have been knackered.

Yeah Igor said when he sorts out some live shows he'll get me on the guest list. He also said "are you based in London? we could go for a couple of drinks some time?" so it was with great disappointment I had to inform him that no, i'm not based in London! Damn! hehe

mischievous, i'm sorry, i'll cease my own G3 requests until Ljubljana has been and gone!
