Stevee T, thanks. making the routing jig was a real pig. Normally, if you're making a guitar body from scratch, you'll have a square blank (2-piece or 3-piece with thru-neck) with the body mapped out on it. This leaves spaces outside the area of the body which you can happily fill with holes for screwing routing jigs onto, and then cut off when you're done.

but, because the body on my guitar was finished, I had to make a jig that would be stable without fixing it to the body with screws. I ended up making a routing jig that had a rectangular plug on the bottom, exactly the size of the humbucker cavity by the bridge, and slotted it into there! All out of MDF! haha.

It worked though....it's not the prettiest job, and would need refinement if I was going to do more, but as a prototype it's great, and the bridge feels more secure than any I've ever played. It's amazing what a crappy job machines do of building instruments!

marimariSRV, yeah, I'll be going to Vai's London show, at the Apollo (i think), on October 19th. Have you talked to EJ much lately? Any idea what his expectations are with the new album? I can't wait, it's out in 4 days! WOOHOO!!!!

OME, haha, steve looks kinda gormless in that photo of you two! and at first glance I thought you were Tony Mac, but only briefly!
civgeek, thanks, I needed reminding of how much my country is ripping me off! hehe j/k. It sucks though, paying a pound a mile, cause they say it won't cost us any more as the tax will be taken off fuel. But who's to say the tax won't be put back on fuel when they realise that there's still too many cars on the road and they need money. I reckon we are going to get completely f*ck*d and there's nothing we can do about it. Time to send mailbombs to downing street.

In other news, British Petroleum - BP - has funded and been in charge of the building of an American oil pipeline that carves it's way straight across Turkey to get middle-eastern oil, cause the US didn't want to have to do a deal with Russia, afraid that the Russians could just cut off the supply and hold the world to ransom (hahaha, yeah, really). The pipeline has been rushed and has been a budget-build, and it's already needing patching up. If there is a spillage the whole of Turkey, the East Meditterranean, Black Sea and Caspian, as well as Armenia and Azerbaijan, will be decimated.

BP, giving you the best of British

edit, got wrong venu down for Vai's london date.

Delfino, if you really want to piss uni off, paint the room black! It'll take 15 coats to make it nasty prison-cell off-white again! MUAHAHAHAHA

Cuthbert, no way man, I definitely don't trust them on the whole idea of lifting fuel tax. I thoroughly expect that they will promise that they'll do it, people will say "okay, do it, if it means cheaper fuel", then they'll pass the new law to have a distance-travelled toll, and the say "actually, you know what? you can keep paying with body parts for fuel. SUCKERS"
OME, he started wearing gloves so he wouldn't spread the sickness? That's pretty nuts, must have been a nasty bug. Still, it explains why he looks kinda weird in that picture! When was it taken?
marimariSRV, camera arrived this morning. It's fantastic. The autofocus is so much better than I expected, it's the first time I've been impressed by a form of artificial intelligence! I wish I could use it at Vai's Groningen show! Oh well.

also, you'll be pleased to know I spent some of this morning rocking out to the DVD of Stevie Ray + Double Trouble: Live At The El Mocambo! There's some cracking (excellent) songs on there!

Sammygirl, nice artwork. I love Tsunami and Amethyst.
Naty, I take it you have an allergy to peppers? That's interesting.....my mum has the same allergy with any of the pepper family (paprika, chilli etc) and it's quite an unusual allergy to have. Do you have any idea why you are allergic?
tune, hahaha, thanks for posting that joke! I'm always pleased to see someone who's not afraid of poking a bit of fun at the Catholic church! hehe

Naty, yeah, if my mum eats any kind of spicy food with any kind of peppers or chilli in she's in killer pain within about 10 minutes. and she's never known why either! Her only theory is that it's an allergy to a fruit enzyme, as the Pepper family are all fruits, not vegetables.
VFR, oops, that was something I forgot in my mail. You mentioned that Ibanez 90th Anniversary DVD didn't you? I'd love to see that....do you have a DVD writer?

VFR, oop, my bad! haha. Thanks a lot dude, I'd love to see the Ibanez 90th footage. Regards the Vai GIT bootleg....what's it like? Cliff sent me the tape of Satch and Vai and the rest in Seville, 1992, and Vai's set just didn't do it for me.

That said, I think I was put off by his pitiful outfit.....he somehow made it possible for Diamente or white Rhinestone to be more fashionable than something! haha. Have you seen the Seville 92 show? if not, basically, Vai's outfit was a suit (with no shirt) with all these horrible fake crystals hanging off it, swinging around, and generally looking tasteless, each one about 10cm long! haha.

Naty, yeah if I had a chocolate allergy it'd kill me! That's got to suck, big style!

what the f*ck is goig on here? I duck my head out for 24 hours and come back to find people pouting in the corner, all cause they got the wrong impression. Chill out folks!
Delfino, awww, that's the first really good thing that's happened to me today, thanks for that....I know you haven't forgotten, I figured you've been very busy though, especially with it being exam time and college coming to an end. Also, I promise I haven't forgotten your stuff, I've just got the small problem of needing to source a copy of Nero 6 so I can make the DVD! hehe. I will get it done though do, I swear!
marimariSRV, what's EJ's new record like?
PhryDom, "so much to tell & show him and i can't"....I can very much relate to that. Take it easy dude. I'll raise a glass in a minute when I'm done checking mail and messageboard!

Cliff, sorry, did you misunderstand my post? I was talking about Vai's clothes on the Seville tape! hehe. That's funny about The Attitude Song.....do you know if he now plays it at the proper speed, or if he still plays it at high speed like he transcribed it?
meandmrvai, no EJ should be on the next G3 world tour! He never comes over here to Europe, I really really want to see one of his shows. He's still my favourite G3er. Also, you should get Ah Via Musicom and Alien Love Child: Live And Beyond. Also, Bloom came out yesterday....I can't wait to hear it!
VFR, thanks a lot dude ;-)
Delfino, that's definitely a tricky one dude. I'd love to say "put it down as flatulence" cause that's the best euphemism I've heard, but I don't know what it really should be. Maybe Clarky will know?
kd6aaj, yeah there was a 7.2 in Columbia or something wasn't there....monday I think? No Tsunami risk though. Sounds like the whole west coast of the Americas is going off

FVR, I bow to you, good call on the Shakepeare definition, very interesting indeed. So, you've read a fair bit of Shakespeare's stuff then?!

Kunali, so you're not much into Vai then! hehe, I can understand your point of view. I used to be a Vai loyalist but I'm certainly not any more. I still think he's cool and I like seeing him play, but I'm more into Joe, and even more into EJ!

I also love Andy Timmons....I'm still very tempted to plan a trip to the US to see EJ and Timmons, if their tours happen to make that kind of trip a possibility! What was the Alien Love Child show like? I bet it was awesome!

Delfino, good call on Ghost Recon: Island Thunder. I love the beach mission! I've been solidly working on San Andreas since it came out last friday! haha.

VFR, hey that's cool man.....knowing a little about a lot at least means you can offer a possible answer to a lot of people's questions. Knowing a lot about a little means you'd only be able to answer one person's question, and in great detail!
marimariSRV, thanks for your messages. Yeah I really do want to come out to the US and see Mr Johnson....if I can go to Holland to see Vai I can go to the US to see EJ, and I seriously do intend to, I promise!

I can't wait to hear Bloom! I preordered from musictoday and it was shipped on Saturday so it should arrive this week or next. I'm gearing up for it by listening mostly to EJ stuff at the moment. That means I have to listen to Venus Isle again.....I think I'll cope! hehe

Yeah, Vai in the UK - if you do come over, please make the London date, October 19th. That's the one I'll be going to. What else would you be doing while you're here?

And yes, we got the original Batman shows on TV. They were being repeated when I was a kid, so at the time no, I didn't wish there were expletives in there, but now I would be dying from laughter if I heard "holy fuck batman" or something equally ridiculous! haha.

Thanks for the email, the photos are cool and the one of Christopher pulling on your shirt is hilarious....maybe he'll be doing that all his life! hehe

OCPS470, I didn't know that about Morse being a lefty playing righty! hah, you learn something new every day.
Delfino, haha, I always hit the beach with 3 snipers and a few assault for backup....my preference is always to do things at long range. But, on the city street map (which is amazing!!!!) you just have to go tactical. Regards creating a distraction - I presume you have the first Ghost Recon as well? I love doing a Lone Wolf mission on M06 (Castle at night) with just a sniper, on hard elite. You can pop a shot off then run a few hundred yards round left or right, and hordes of guards will run to where you originally were. Just keep doing the same thing round in one massive circle, it's so satisfying!
SupaaDave, I don't understand...if you stripped the bolt on the bridge end the how can you lock the string in? Regardless, all parts are replaceable. I would advise replacing it as soon as you can, cause while it might work without full functionality, it will change the load on the other parts/saddles/strings, and with a Floyd Rose type bridge being of such precise design, you want it in decent condition.

VFR, hahaha, yeah I know the sort of day you mean dude! I always know it's going to be one of those kind of days when little things start f*ck*ng up rght from the word go....like I'll get up but have no pairs of socks left in the drawer, and then when I find some and I've got dressed, there's no milk left but I've already brewed my tea....man, it goes on! hehe

Also, that sucks about Revolution Int. screwing up. It's odd, I found them really good when I got my Guitar Wars DVD....maybe they were having an unusually good day at the time!

PhryDom, who is "Course Of Evolution"?

Anyone see the farcical US Grand Prix yesterday? What a joke. I think it's so harsh that Michelin are taking the hit for this one, it's so blatantly not their fault. Firstly, someone should have informed them that the track surface had been diamond cut too make it more abbrasive, and secondly the FIA has regulated the sport to the point that it doesn't know what to do when the unexpected happens. Max Mosely needs firing.

The upside to this is that there will hopefully never be a Grand Prix at Indianapolis again, which is great, cause the track is complete crap.

Clarky, right on, I was pissed enough and I was just watching it on telly. You've definitely got to feel for those guys who'd flown from Panama, not to mentiuon the 10,000 JPM supporters who'd travelled up from Columbia. I think it's outrageous that Max Mosely made the decision he made. I don't think Ferrari helped matters much, but it really is the FIA who's to blame.

A Vegas street circuit would be good, I know it's something Bernie has been hoping for. I'd love to see a Moscow GP in the calendar though....they've been trying for that one for about 6 years now...

mikesb, agreed, but don't get Bernie confused with the FIA. Bernie owns F1 but the FIA, run by Max Mosely, has power over F1 (and the FIA GT Championship, and I think World Rally as well). I think Bernie, too, would have liked to have a chicane put in...he certainly pushed for it...but in the end it all came own to the FIA being a bunch of picky, self-absorbed bastards who completely missed the point cause they were too busy trying to prove their own. Bernie is good for F1, he's managed to get it into China, Bahrain, Turkey, and has his foot in the door of India and Russia.

Thanks for checking out the new tune, hope it cheered you up or something! Thanks for the good feedback :-) Take it easy dude...

cuthbert, a chicane is a construction of two tight corners, with opposing direction changes, in immediate succession. Monaco has many examples. Also, think of the hilltop "corkscrew" at the summit of the Laguna Seca circuit. Because the corners are so close together it pulls the apexes closer to being perpendicular to the straight racing line, so you have to slow down to get through it.
Keniko, no I've not played around with any of the other Line 6 stuff. I can't say I'm a huge fan....the POD is good enough for what I need it to do and is definitely a good teaching aid, but when I've recorded something with it but then play the same thing straight through my amp, it sounds so much better! but yeah, like I said, it's useful!
SlickPotatoHead, yeah I agree, it's mad to think CD is outdated. and minidisc didn't last long, which blows, cause I got me an ace MD player. I do like the functionality of Compact Flash and USB Flash Memory sticks and things like that, but I hate the sound quality of MP3......the only good MP3 encoding I've heard is on X-Box, somewhat surprisingly!
Once again, I uploaded Powerhouse today. All are welcome to check it out!

VFR, "but why couldn't michelin get tyres across from europe to the states when they knew on Friday ?"....because they would have been in breach of five regulations! Can you f*ck*ng believe that?! The sport is so over-regulated, that if you find out that some asshole has resurfaced a track without telling you, rendering your tyres redundant, there's nothing you can do about it!

Delfino, yeah getting a good portfolio together is a good idea bro. What programs do you use for creating and rendering stills and animations?

Sorry to hear those exams didn't go so well. That's so harsh that you couldn't answer the first question because of the way it was worded - I know exactly how you feel, I went through a few exams like that. I hate, with a passion, the sorts of people that write these papers! They're the same lot that write things like Customs forms, passport applications and Inland Revenue Tax Return forms! I don't think there is anything clever about wording a question really technically. Good luck to you anyway bro, keep us posted as to how things go...

SlickPotatoHead, cause a bunch of magazines and celebs told everyone that Ipods are fashionable....that's all it takes! That's why everyone now thinks it's "cool" to wear Trucker Caps and Aviator sunnies. I think they look bloody ridiculous, but if a few magazines tell you it's cool then they must be right....right?! hahaha.
ka girl, "I think that people buy ipods because they like to waste there money on stupid things"....right on!
Clarky, I think what I'm more annoyed about is actually Ferrari's free points. I think Ferrari's close relationship to Max Mosely had something to do with his decision....i think it has something to do with a lot of his decisions. I think it's so unfair that Schumacher has been boosted from 7th to 3rd....all the other guys have been working so hard and have deserved every point they've earned.
DCK, thanks for checking it out dude!

Keniko, sorry to hear that bad news dude....it sucks. Are you sure it was methane gas? I didn't think methane was odorless....I know Carbon Monoxide is. Regardless, it sucks, and that kind of accident is never really the sort of accident you'd think of.

Update, I just saw your latest message....again, I'm sorry to hear the bad news dude. Peace and kind regards

SupaaDave, I wouldn't bother replacing the Lo TRS II with another one, they don't last long. You should be able to retrofit a genuine Floyd Rose without any trouble - ask Chris Peters, I believe he's done it on an old S...
Delfino, yeah English papers are always like that! haha, I hate when you can't think of any decent way to include something that's on your mental checklist, so you write one sentence about it, and it's really blatantly obvious that it was a checklist item! haha. I dunno, maybe you're more sly than me?! hehe

Sweet, 3DS max and Maya Editor.....you won't be needin much else! That said, have you seen/used/heard of Lightwave? It's awesome. Years ago I used to download addon cars for Need For Speed 4 for PC, and one of the guys built cars using Lightwave. His car models were simply astonishing, far, far better than anything you've ever seen on Gran Tursimo 4, Project Gotham, Colin McRae Rally or anything. Yeah they require a high polygon count, but with today's technology that doesn't matter.

ka girl, haha, I was being nice! I don't tend to be mean to anybody unless they give me a reason to be mean, and even then I'll only get mean about something that matters! I was just giving the thumbs up to your comment that people who buy ipods are wasting their money!

Stevee T, danny K, thank you both for checking out Powerhouse, and thanks for your feedback...I'm glad people are diggin it!

SupaaDave, thanks for checkin out the tune amigo! Also, $125 for a used Floyd Rose with no arm? hahaha. Something I saw the other day that cracked me up - "Ibanez Jem 7V body....mint condition". On slightly-closer inspection of the thumbnail photo I saw that it wasn't a Jem body. It was a rip off.....there was no cavity routed for the middle pickup, it was just an RG body that somenoe had routed. I sent a message to the guy saying "is this one of those lesser-known H-H arrangement Jem's", obviously taking the piss and he replied with "this may be a lesser-Jem but I can assure you the workmanship is top-notch".

Some poor f*ck*r actually paid a good couple of hundred bucks for that! haha.

NSPike, haha, thanks for checking out Powerhouse. Yeah I realised I could do that trick a few years ago and have been itching to stick it in a track ever since! Thanks for your kind remarks :-)

does anybody know when the sale of Vai's UK tickets ends? I thought, when they first went on sale, I saw something saying they'd be available until the end of this month, but I can't see anything that says that now, and it would surprise me greatly, considering the shows are in October.

if anyone knows please shout, cause I really need to know whether I need to get tickets before I go to Holland, or if it can wait.
