Hi! I'm new to the site. I've been kind of asking around, and Joe, HOW how how do you get that great tone of your guitars? I mean, is it even possible to get that sound on cheaper guitars? EQ's are no problem, but lord. The fret response on your guitars is amazing. My style is really similar to your's and Steve Vai's, though I'm not much of a heavy listener of your music. However, I'd like to study some of your techniques. I don't have a CLUE where to even begin, man. I have the basic style down, but alot of those faster picking techniques...man. No words for it, Joe. Anyway, I just heard about your music a couple of months ago, and finally listened to it - it's incredible. I like it all. So any suggestions on where to get started? I used to have one of Steve Vai's cd's (Passion and Warfare- the only one I ever got to listen to- A friend gave it to me and said I could learn a few odds and ends), and wanted to learn some more of the faster stuff then (when I first heard it), but I put it off. And the other day, in a store in Maine, I heard your cd. Oh man. Mindstorm is...exactly what I've been going for. So, basically, the question is....with this next mountain before me......where do I start?

Me again! The more I study Joe's music, the more I fall in love with it. I've been working the past few days trying to write a solo "in the style of Joe Satriani", it's almost done. I'm going to be playing it live with a drummer as backup in Presque Isle. If anyone wants a studio or live recording when it's composed, email me. It's more than likely going to be about 5-7 minutes long, though. lol In the course of all this, I've also invented a new fingering technique that I'm still mastering, but when It's worked out, I'll post it on here for you other guitar teachers and students. (I'm both, by the way, though I've never had lessons)

Always Learning, always teaching...for love of the music, and love the minds behind it...

Bahamut12 - I've had a reoccuring dream my entire life as well....It's impossible to describe, but I wrote a narration of it that explains it as best as I can....
============================
"Darkly Dreamt Madness"
Toph Punches
----------------------------------------
I perch up in my top bunk above my brethren.
Two defenseless brothers sleeping below me.

I look to the closet for the sound.
Glowing eyes. Piercing my core.
Power rages within them.

All my youth flashes before me.
And I feel the malice towards my kin.

The monster within my closet approaches.
I leap from my bunk to gouache those wretched eyes.

And his blood burns my hands.

I run outside to lure him out.
I open the door,
to find myself sliding down a hill of coal and pebbles.
I slid down on my feet.

The monster loses himself in the hill.
I slide to the bottom of the mass.

It's twilight. The sun is coming soon.
I hear the beast struggling to regain himself
but it's too late for him, now.

I'm at the bottom of the hill --
the top of a chapel.

I run to the cross on the sacred rooftop, and
remove a blackened sword.

I hold it high, and the purest white surrounds
everything and blinds me.

I wake up and my brothers are still sleeping.
I wipe my tears and wash the stains on my hands.
And no one ever knew.
----------------------------------
Freeeeeeeeaaaaaky. I wrote that one morning after I had the dream. The last time I had it I was....11? I don't remember...Anyone care to interperet that? lol I'd be much obliged.... :)
----------------------------------
I got that new technique down, btw. If anyone wants it, it's a great way to add melodic harmonies to leads. Just email me.

Well, I'm looking for someplace that will host my site that has ftp uploads, when I find someone that will do that for free, I'll post the url so you guys can check it out. This next album is going to be my best work yet. Alot of Joe's influence going on. A little steve vai, too :) Steve's cool, too....

But I was going to ask if Joe was ever going to do a show in Presque Isle, Maine? I'd be interested in seeing what he's like live. How much do tickets run for, usually, anyway?

Hey, by any chance, would any of you know where I could find a strat online that has a reversed wammy bar? (In is up, Out is down, minimal distance from the strings to the fret-board)? If anyone knows where I can order one online, please feel free to post the url. Also, I was wondering what kind of pick-ups joe uses in his chrome-boy?

Thanks

Hey folks! Me again! I was bored last night and wrote a piano solo, if anyone wants to transcribe it to guitar, and write a tab file, that would be great! It's about a minute long. Nothing amazing, but I'm thinking about taking my music towards a more classical route, and I'd like to hear what any of you think!

Here is the link to the song

Grrrr....this solo is missing something. If anyone can tell me what that would be, email me.

Here is the song, again, since no one clicked last time :) lol

Clarky, you seem to know you're classical music, so I'd be interested in hearing your suggestions.

You too, stu

crispin - slayer sucks. I was introduced to their music about a week ago, and listened to a few of their songs. Good lord, Where's the talent? It's "pop death metal".....regardless of the image they try to front

OME - TRANSFORMERS ROCK! I have a friend that sold his entire childhood collection the other day. He was crying, because it was a few grand worth of stuff, and the store only gave him $50 bucks for it. It was terrible. But either that or be homeless I suppose....

FuSiOn5000 - Unsung Hero is a great name for a song. Sounds like something that would have been on one of my older albums. lol...I had some WEIRD names...like "Chimera's War Cry", "White Marble Castle". "Domine Excedium", and "Euphoric Reqiuem of the Vinyl Record", just to name a few ...lol It was my best stuff, though. IF you want I'll find a free music host for my albums and post the link here for ya.

tapper5 - I know that everyone has their own way of learning things, but I've found that with me, I don't come up with the good stuff ever when I'm TRYING to...for me it's always when I'm messing around and not even really paying attention. Free improv is a GREAT tool for writing NON-improv songs. I record for about 6 hours straight, then play back all of it, looking for that sound. And out of every 200 recordings I make, I only get about 2 parts of two different songs...lol...music is only hard if you MAKE IT hard! Look at players like Joe, or Steve Vai. They look so relaxed when they pull those amazing solos and leads. It's because they're almost casual about it, they do it so much. They have so much confidence that they'll hit the correct notes with the desired timing, and it takes the pressure off so they can just concentrate on the music and let it flow out. I try to think of those riffs that are hard as something very easy, like its nothing in my head, and that actually helps!
br[ But I'm rambling, now, so....peace out peepz!

crispin- my "mom" more than likely has the training required to whoop your silly ass. lol. Leave mothers out of adult conversations. I'm ASSUMING you're an adult? But anyway, I suppose if I'm going to diss one of your favorite bands, I should have some facts listed out for you, so- Yeah, you're right. I'll borrow a copy of the album I heard, and pick it apart for you. My biggest problem was the screaming. The way I see it, if you can't do the vocals right, then don't do them at all. Screaming isn't bad, but slayer's vocals and lyrics were idiotic to me.

elpp- I'm not sure which album, I can figure out though. Give me a couple days, I'm a busy man.

trutina - I call it pop because I see slayer as one of those bands that does the senseless screaming and "evil" sounds for only one reason: "To be one of those bands that does senseless screaming and evil sounds". They make music only so people will buy their albums instead of to have someone listen and be entertained by their music. That is my definition of pop. They are the way they are because defiances of culture are BECOMING pop. Haha....eventually it's all gonna be one big sess-pool.

Trutina, btw, if everyone who likes death metal likes slayer, then it is by definition pop death metal, right?

but crispin-I suppose, if I were 14 again, I would kind of get into slayer......lol!

I jest with you all! No offense intended, we all come from different genres of view! lol

JS Clone 1- First, thanks for the input on my song! I appreciate it! It's missing something, though...any ideas? But anyway that's hilarious that you would say that about slayers bassist!

hehe....my computer......is a....a.........G3!

Fusion - I'm in competition with EVERYONE, so I guess we even each other out a little. I just don't have the abilities yet to WIN that competition....lol There's some really good musicians out there. SO GOOD IT'S SCARY.

Does anyone have an opinion about "Boy Hits Car"? I Heard them the other day, and can't quite form my own standing on whether I like them or not......

Oh yeah-IUMA is screwed up. For some reason I can't upload...dang.

DANG IT! I WANT TO BE BOLDY CONTROVERSIAL, BUT I'M TOO NICE....and....and...I CAN'T FIND FREE FTP ARCHIVE HOSTING....and....and....MY DANELECTRO IS FALLING APART ALREADY.... and....and....

::puts head through monitor::

(stay on the look-out for the Gammamute Project.....its HOT!)

962- Always go with Duncan

The Crippler- Jimmy Hendrix died a long long time ago.

Everyone who felt an overwhelming desire to voice their opinions in a manner showing they believed someone actually cared what they thought about anything-
Yngwie uses too many scales. Absolutely, that's his style. I'm sure he's a much better guitarist than you and I could ever dream of being, and it seems to have made him quite rich, so I'm sure a great deal of people like his music. Personally, I don't, but I have to give him respect as a musician. And I'm quite sure there is more to the composition of his songs than you know about. I guess we'll never know until one of us actually asks him. :P

Buddha, Buy 'Strange and Beautiful Music'.

I'm curious about this line of JS Gear that popped up while I was gone....does joe actually use it, or is he endorsing it? Personally....if he went all those years making all those sounds we've come to love him for without them....then....as musicians.....how necessary are they? I like my marshal stack and my les paul, thank you.
