Hey Joe, I was at the G3 show at the Greek Theatre last October. Amazing show! You, Vai and Yngwie really tear it up. After finally finishing listening to the CD and watching the DVD, I started thinking about the next American G3 tour (which I already can't wait for) and wondering when it will be, hopefully 2004 ;-), and who will be playing it. I'm assuming Vai will be doing it again since he's only missed one since the start. Eric Johnson might be a good candidate because this year make 4 years since the last one he did, which was 4 years after the first G3. Yngwie, obviously insanely good, would be rad to have play again. My last nominee is Buckethead. He is much more than the ex-slash-replacement, in fact his solo albums are pure shred. I saw him play at a very small show at Styles Music in La Verne, CA (I was less than 10 ft. away from him :D) and he would definately be an excellent candidate for G3. Keep everything up! You rock my socks off! G3 forever! -Joey

Ethn - whoa...there's a ninja clan and no one told me? I guess I'm not really considered a reg. yet, but I'm working on tryin to get to T2J more often. Anyways...have you been to The Official Ninja Webpage? Robert Hamburger just came out with a book, which I wanna get, but I'm saving my money right now for some stuff(this technology forum in silicon valley & a sitar :-D ) Anyways, ninjas are totally sweet and don't stop flipping out guys! I'm out for now, I have a newport bay cruise/concert to play @ w/ my school's jazz band.

I have to agree that this forum isn't really the place for a debate on homosexuality...maybe move it to email or something? if you must continue...

I'm listening to the right channel of Sgt. Pepper's right now b/c my left channel is busted...it isn't the same :-(

rough gig today, we played on a yatch that was waaaay too small for our whole jazz band. I ended up being 7 or 8 ft. away from my amp so I had to tell this sax player to turn up the volume on the clean channel, but he turned the overdrive up instead so it came to my solo and I couldn't even hear myself - and this is a show that peeps payed $50 a ticket for. After that one the band director got it straightened out for the last song, which has a way better solo anyways...so I guess it wasn't too bad. Anyways...just out of curiosity does anyone here play sitar? I wanna get one eventually when I get enough $...I was wondering exactly how many strings you play, I've gotten the impression (correct me if I'm wrong) that there are 20 strings, 13 of which just resonate, 5 of which you don't actually fret and the last two which you fret??? ok well I've gotta go finish HW...l8

PrygianDominant - NICE!!! Did you get the email from Robert Hamburger about the Official Ninja Book? It was sooooo sweet!

Greyfox88 - Although ninjas ARE secretive...they like to show off their skills on their spare time. ESPECIALLY their mad wailing skills :-D

also check out Enter The Ninja

Does anyone know if Joe taps chords in Day at the Beach like he does in Midnight? Midnight is so awesome. On the G3 DVD was the first time I've ever seen anyone tapping chords...sweet.

Man, I am sooo anxious to get ITLIS, but I REALLY need to save my $ now. I've still got over $1000 to earn to go to this national youth leadership forum over the summer and then I wanna get a sitar :-( ...I need to start chasing rainbows or selling drugs or something to get $ (just kidding about the drugs, drugs are bad) but seriously...does anyone know any ways to make $ pretty quick and legally...I already have a few kids that I give guitar lessons and I tutor, but it's still jus pocket change. Or maybe someone wants to donate a copy of ITLIS? lol

JS_JS - I would have to say Attack isn't his best album, but it's still hella good. If you don't already have Alchemy, that's my favorite and what I would reccomend getting before Attack. Baroque 'n Roll is probably one of my favorite Yngwie songs ever. I don't really have any complaints about any track on the album, except that some are mediocre for Yngwie's standards, which is still pretty good compared to other stuff. Anyways...that's my humble opinion.

jazzy boy - As for Yngwie not playing what he likes and not playing passionately, it doesn't have to be slow to be passionate and Yngwie plays exactly what he loves most - classical music. I don't know how you feels about classical, but it is just as capable of conveying emotion as rock or any other type of music. If he didn't love neoclassical he would have started playing grunge or something for popularity, but he kept playing what he loves and if you can't appreciate it I don't know what to say.

GODGUNSGUITARS - That's harmonic minor in Phrygian AKA Phrygian raised (or #) 3rd. if you were to start on G and play G G# B C D D# F G, you might want a progression like Gmaj, G#maj, Bmaj, G#maj or maybe those chords with an Fmin. Or if you start the same scale pattern on E you can do an open Emaj and jus slide it without the bar to Fmaj and Gmaj positions [022100] [033200] & [055400] to get a flamenco feel. Hope that helps :-D

JS_JS - Blue is Yngwie at his best. It is hard to explain because it comes out sounding bluesey and has a swing drum beat, but it's complete shred (or at least some parts). The first time I listened to that song I was moved. Well...I'm still moved every time I listen to it! I even ordered the Alchemy CSS book, but stupid Euromusic doesn't have it and needs to print more or something.

GODGUNSGUITARS - I've seen that site with those weird scales and stuff like Oriental and Indian and all of those, but I'm not sure where those actually came from. They might be scales used in those coutries' types of music or maybe someone just made them up, who knows. I just know about harmonic minor (esp. Phrygian #3) from taking guitar lessons because I'm starting to learn all kinds of flamenco stuff. It's really fun to use that scale and those three major chords in a metal style w/ lots o' distortion, it's a classic jam progression me and my friend use when we get together.

Stu Clone - What do you mean by enharmonic spellings?

As for those scales, they have been circulating since probably sometime in the 80's, or at least before there were fancy webpages like we have today. In fact, I think this doc. might go back to the BBS days...anyways I put two links, the first is the index for all of the 'classic' lessons and the second is the document with the 'exotic modes', one of which is phrygian #3.

Stu Clone - Thanx for the info, although I used to call it phrygian raised thrid, but my friend gave me a copy of guitar player Dec. '92 (it has an Ibanez ad on the inside of the cover for Joe's JS series and HE HAS HAIR!) and it had an article called "Majoring in Harmonic Minor" by Mick Goodrick and he refered to the modes as Lydian #2 and Dorian #4. With no refference to Phrygian, I asssumed it would be safe to call it Phrygian #3. Is there some reason that Phrygian can't be called #3? Or maybe Goodrick wasn't PC? Anyways...that's the only reason I said Prygian #3.

juju - SWEETNESS!!! We should raise enough money to send him and his band up there to do the first live space gig. I wonder how the zero g will effect his playing ability. So...who wants to start the Satch in Space fund?

Stu Clone - Thanx, I guess what it comes down to is too many names for one scale ;-) btw, what is your musical background? It seems like you may have majored in music? Anyways, I'm a junior in HS and am probably going to major in music.

Grayfox88 - Yngwie did an orchestral concert with the Japan Phil a while back with his release of Concerto for Electric Guitar in Eb. It was pretty good, you might wanna check out getting that video if you wanna see a gutiar led orchestra. He played both electric and classical acoustic in it. Awesome vid to get!

Stu Clone - Hey, I was looking at a post from a few days ago and was wondering about how to play some of these chords. I am more or less familiar with chord theory from playing jazz, but I have never come accross a maj6 or a maj7(#11) before. If you could tell me how to play them that would be greatly appreciated.
