This is my first time posting....I was looking at my Setlist, and I noticed that not all of the songs I chose might be appropriate for a G3 concert. Can Joe play Lovething in a G3 setting? It seems that G3 performances are typically furious, technical stuff, but I think it would be cool to hear one of Joe's ballads admist the shred-fest. Speaking of Lovething, it was my favorite performance on the Live in San Franscisco DVD. I loved Stu's rendition of Joe's masterpiece! I've never seen anyone play a bass guitar like that. Ok, I suspect I have said quite enough. Love, peace and chicken grease!

Hey dme0102 I believe in "I believe." I like that song a lot. I love the free flight guitar work in the middle. I think that song is a very heartfelt one....¿Habla español?
I am abviously the most experienced guitarist. I've been playing for 2003 years. lol!
What are you guysStuing? You must have been drinking some "Strange Stu."

achoo: I think a LOT of guys can move their fingers fast. As far as asking who is better--all I can say is that Joe's music touches my heart and soul more than any other composer I've heard. I believe that's a gift from God.
STUchito lol!

I saw an orchestra last night with guest violinist Bin Huang. No joke, this woman had serious chops. She was ripping the fretboard (is it still called a fretboard on a violin?) like a madwoman. She was producing some unusual sounds too. I couldn't help but be reminded of the great guitar performances I've seen.
What do you guys think? Could a violinist turn guitarist or vica/verca?

Isn't that beautiful intro into Rubina from the"Live in S?F" DVD the openning of Turkey Man on the "Additional Creations" CD? By the way, how do I get the "Additional Creatios?"

I'm just curious. I've noticed that Joe and others of you fans really like listening to the Deftones. I have listened to their music and I haven't really found much that I like. Could someone explain what's so great about them? Obviously, there is something there which I'm not hearing.
Humbly submitted.

Good point. Given Joe's diversity of composition, it shouldn't surprise me that some of his many musical interests don't exactly speak to me.
Satch's diversity is both astounding and appealing.
I can't wait to see what new thing he offers us this spring. He has a new album coming out in the spring doesn't he?

Does anybody know whatever became of Vito Bratta? Did he do anything after White Lion broke up? I liked the way he played.

White Lion was one of the best of the hair bands. I also liked Trixter. What happened to Steve Brown?

Trixter tried to go back to their blues roots on their second album. Some of the songs like As the Candle Burns, What It Takes, and Runaway Train are great, but I liked their first release better.
Warrant definately had some quality songs. I still love Heaven, and Sometimes She Cries.

Hey DreamT, the music for those 3d animated clips was cool. I like the idea of animating good music. Joe looked into it once back in the day and the price was astronomical. Hopefully we'll see more of this kind of thing as animating becomes more practical.
Anyone else excited for the new G3 release?
I've never seen Joe and Steve jam with John. I bet it's a sight to behold.

Judging by the first two song samples, the new album features killer rythems. I was interested to hear how Joe would do playing his own bass lines. I like what I'm hearing.

I think that Live in San Fran. is the best concert DVD to date.
Joe was really in the zone. The whole band was in the zone. I love Stu's rendition of Lovething. Why doesn't Eric tour with Joe anymore?

I know Satch has said that he had success early on using old music forms, jazz and blues. The blues in his playing is obvious, where's the jazz? The only thing I can find is the Bebop in Killer Bee Bop, but that song didn't come until he was already well established.
Any help?
Thanks.

Sherpa Steve: Tabs are easier if you just want to learn a particular song, but I would advise learning scales and notes because you're going to want to get into some music theory at some point. That's my only real advice to you as you start out.
As for practice time--it all depends on how good you want to be and how much you're willing to put into it. I would say the important thing is to stay with it--DON'T STOP PRACTICING.
Does anyone here know what the heck Nels Cline is doing with his studio albums? Are there melodies there I'm just not getting? What is the appeal supposed to be? While we're at it. What's up with Allan Holdsworth's music? I want to like it, but I don't understand it. :)

So Joe and Journey were recording their albums across the hall from each other. Do you think they were able to sneak in any cameos or would the record companies squash that?
The new Album sounds like it will be very interesting. I like the idea of Joe addressing "some heavier musical concepts."

My little girl improvised this when she was 2 and a half. She's 3 now.
I was about to record when she stole the mic and started singing.

Wooleyman: From Marty Friedman's "Music for Speeding"--I REALLY like Lust for Life. I wish he would come out with more instrumental albums. Which tunes do you like on that album?

Vivuo-- Michael Angelo Batio is a stellar player. If he did play with G3 though, I would really hope he would play Prog Revisited or 2X Again. Those are the only songs I've heard from him that I like. I really like those tunes a lot, but the rest of his stuff doesn't have strong enough melodies. Maybe with time I'll like him better.
Has anybody heard Sami Viitsalo? He's got some songs up on myspace. I like his stuff a LOT.
listen
Professor Satchifunkilis and the Musterion of Rock. That is a sweet album name. It sounds like he broke up the 15 minute song he was going to put on the CD. That's a little disappointing. Still, the album sounds like it will be great.
