Joe and Satch fans,

I have been studying guitar for several years now with a guy who is an awesome jazz-rock guitarist. I've learned my way around the fretboard really well with all the chords and even some fingerstyle techniques. I understand the fretboard and the theory behind the chords really well- now I want to take it to the next level.

I am looking to learn some of Joe's music (like Satch boogie, for instance).

Can you tell me the best book or video to check out to get me started? I know I will never be able to play it anywhere near how Satch does, but I am dying to learn some of his innovative techniques (like the finger-tapping in the middle of Satch Boogie, the amazing combination of soloing runs and chords, along with the awesome use of the whammy bar, and effects pedals).

I have most of the CDs (my favs are Crystal Planet, Live from San Fran, Strange Beautiful, Blue Dream, and, of course Surfing...).

I also have the Live from San Fran DVD- AMAZING!!! By the way, since I saw the Live DVD, I picked up Hendrix's Fillmore East/Band of Gypsies CD & DVD. My fav. off that one is Power of Soul- they're all awesome though! How did he ever play a right-handed guitar left-handed like that?? Wow!

Any advice on the best place to start- to pick up some techniques and improve my skills??

Thanx,

John

I just got my tix to Joe's recently added concert at the Keswick Theater near Philly, PA... It'll be my first time seeing him in concert. If it is anything like the Live from San Francisco or G3 concerts that I've seen on DVD it should be AWESOME... Then again, with Joe- it'll be awesome no matter what!

I have been studying guitar and gigging in the Philly area for several years now, and am looking forward to hearing Joe in concert- he is one of the most gifted, innovative guitarists ever to play the instrument.

Keep on rockin' Joe! I 'll see you in October!

John from Philly

P.S.- How do I enter the drawing for the backstage VIP passes to meet Joe?? I checked the Tour listing and didn't see the Philly date listed yet...

I have 5th row seats to Joe's show tonight at the Keswick Theater near Philly, PA, and I'm looking forward to rocking out and marveling at Joe's guitar mastery...

SATCH ROCKS!!!

I have never been to hear Joe in concert, but if it is anything close to his Live in San Fran, and G3 concerts it should be AWESOME!

I just had to share that, because I have been getting revved up about this show for weeks!

I hope my ears still work tomorrow...

Rock on people!!

Joe,

On "Light Years Away" there is a really cool solo near the end of the tune where you finger pick arpeggios of minor and (I think) half diminished chords, which sounds awesome. I am wondering what effects you used to get that tone. It's one of my favorite parts from your Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards album.

Thanks,

John

P.S.- When are you coming back to Philly??
