here's a little thing the ladies would understand in particular..

one thing that reduces the amount of grief I get from waffie when I'm working away from home is all the duty free chemistry set for her face that I get her...

so the day before I fly home she gives me a list of the things from the Clinique counter not to buy [it makes for a smaller list that way]..

so I saw "anti ageing cream"... interesting stuff.. I asked the nice girlie by the counter in the airport..

"if it put that cream on and it's my birthday tomorrow and I find out that I am in fact one year older, can I bring it back and change it for something that works?"

she said no and muttered something strange in Dutch [I can only assume meant go away]

So for the Dan. talk box you don't need a separate amp, you can use the same amp you have all of your other fx and guitar going through?

I forgot to mention, I got the SBM tab book at a music store. I can play a few of the songs now, New Last Jam has such a weird tuning, how did Joe ever get the idea for that? That had to be hard to conceive, all the strings are in E. The Mountain song has a hard arpeggio in the beggining, just have to get used to the fingering. Joe's solos on the album when I looked at them are quite a bit different, he doesn't do the legatto as much, only really on Hill Groove and What Breaks a Heart. I usually pick more often that I should during a legatto run, I can't keep the sound up.

I have the JS-100, my thoughts on it, very bright sounding, tends to be little thin but rarely, pickups are decent two humbuckers one at the neck and bridge, very versatile. It creams my other guitar because it stays in tune better with only a little more effort. However when you break a string it's a pain to put another on. Sometimes it pops off, you have to get it in there tight.

I finished a song this weekend, I am starting to write another one, this one is a heavy metal song.

I'm back. what did I miss? it was a long, fun weekend. until last night when I put my car in the ditch. it sucks. I am in trouble with my parents of course. I was hot rodding on a dirt road and messed up the front bumper and fender. I think the car will be fine. it is gonna take a while to earn back my parents' trust though. oh well, part of life. at least I am ok.

nice to see Joe post. he is still my fav.

the Prez I agree with you 100 % on the Hendrix thing, he also started the whole shred thing too. but some of the guys today could play circles around him.

Joe I dont know about other people but I dont think I could ever afford something custon from Ibanez. I had to save up for my guitar (S 470 dx qm). I love it though.

I have to respond to the recent statements about Jimi. He wears a Guitar God Crown for many deserving reasons! The young un's have no clue! Sorry! It's the truth! Here is the truth:

Jimi Hendrix died when he was just 27 years old in Sept,1970 He broke through at age 24 and everyone wanted a piece of him! He was only with us for 3 years!!!! To put things in perspective The Beatles 1st played on Ed Sullivan on Feb 9th, 1964. They played "All my Loving", "Till There was You" and "She Loves You" all the kick ass hits! Do you get the point?! Young ones still have no clue!

When Jimi was "discovered" in 1966 there was no other like him! Clapton was ready to quit guitar! All of the who's who in the music industry was there to see Jimi play! They did not write him off! They were all humbled by his gift!!! So many Master's have been influenced by Jimi! It's countless and you feel his guitar playing is insignificant?! He is average? WTF!? Read you music history! A very good start is "Jimi Hendrix: Musician by Keith Shadwick. Excellent Book! Excellent CD: JImi Hendrix : Blues Experience Hendrix Label I'm listening to it now.... SRV knows the Blues like Jimi........... Jimi and SRV are the Blues! Eric Johnson plays the blues so beautiflully! He is Jazzy Blues ! I am the Blues....I know the Blues! I have lived the Blues! The Blues is my Soul! Mari

Joe Satriani dedicated his life to guitar the day JImi died! Doesn't that tell you something? Are you paying attention?!

Jimi Hendrix is playing a Stratocaster with his teeth and also playing a right handed guitar lefthanded. Let me see you do that, when the Beetles are "Holding Hands!" "Yeah, I wanna hold your hand!" Let's put it all into perspective people! Jimi Hendrix deserves the crown he wears! IMO!

1970 when Jimi died the Beatles released "Let it Be".

Nuff Said.

Mari

MarimariSRV Well said, I'm glad you brought up the thing about the playing the right handed strat left handed, that shows so much persistance to learn the guitar even though it wasn't built in a way that would be comfortable for him...anwayz its a discussion that I feel you have closed so Ima shut up :-)

Joe Satriani If you went into the chat tonight I will have missed you...its nearly 3am over here and my back hurts from a whole load of sitting lol...g'night

Well, here is my point on Jimi Hendrix He is influencial, but my problem with him is that many people literally think he's the center of the damn guitar universe. Take a look at one of my idols, Tony iommi, now that guy has been overlooked for years. Without him there would be no metal. Practically every metal band roots off from sabbath in some way, so Iommi's contribution to heavy metal was greater than hendrix's. And if anyone wants to try to disclaim that go right ahead, right here I am prepared to defend Tony Iommi. Charlie Christian anyone? He got the electric guitar in the spotlight. Muddy Waters was one who shaped the electric blues guitar how it was. Andres Segovia brough the guitar in the orchestra, putting the guitar into the scene. The latter is so important a contribution, that it is forgotten. perhaps it Segovia would have drowned in his vomit at his hype he would have been seen as a guitar god? Who knows?

I mean jimi was influencial, but many people spout off him being the greatest. Greastes guitarist in what genre? Hendrix certainly wasn't a classical player, he was inflencial in psycadellic blues and the rock genre of that time. Like what Do the Stu said "Hendrix was just good." He just spouts off somethign that is an excepted norm without any real backing. marimariSRV With all due respect, playing with your teeth doesn't make you 'a guitar god' and to let you in on this, Hendrix wasn't the first guy to do this, he just made it big on tv. Let me give you an example of a few friends of mine, they play the guitar just for the reason to cover James Hetfields guitar riffs. The influience Frank Zappa has on Steve Vai is tremendous. Robert Johnson, now he is the most influencial blues guitarist by far, clapton just did a cover of some of his songs on his new album. Almost 70 years after his death his songs are still heard today. Doesn't that mean something? Ask any blues player, and your sure to hear Robert Johnson.

So the comment of the young ones not knowing about hendrix is true, but is even more true with the master Robert Johnson. Maybe you need to go backwards even more and see the root of things.

A few random things:

- Has anyone heard of UComics? Check 'em out, they're pretty cool. They'll email you one comic strip every day for free...sign up, pick your favorite, and there you go. You can pay them money to get more than one, if you really like their service. ;-) I think everyone should subscribe and get Calvin and Hobbes...

- I think I added a few things to my Page O' Stuff recently... Check it out...

- I'm working on getting my trade list online... I uploaded a rough draft of part of my list just a few minutes ago. Can some people here take a look at it and tell me if anything is funky? Click here... If the spacing is messed up for one of the shows that doesn't have a * next to it (or a ? or a blank spot or something similar), can you let me know? Thanks...

Well, that's all for now...

"When Jimi was "discovered" in 1966 there was no other like him! Clapton was ready to quit guitar!"

Where did you hear that, wow that';s total BS if I ever read it. Clapton played for years to old blues songs, I don't see why he would quit then? Just remember, there are many other musicians who contributed as well. Hendrix cannot take all the credit, it's not like all the music today is revolved aroud him. Different parts yes, but the same can be said with many musicians.

The Prez: You have totally missed the mark! You still have no clue! I will help you ,my friend!

Your Idol, Tony Iommi is great! Do You really think he would be playing those riff's if it were'nt for Jimi?! Hello?! Come On Jared! If you ask him Who his influences are I'm sure Jimi would appear! Who are You Expecting to be his influence? Joe has said that JImi was his , do you consider that a lie or what? Tell me how you justify Joe Satriani saying that Jimi Hendrix is his reason for playing guitar!?

Jimi Hendrix has been and will forever be a major influence on Guitarist and people who love guitar like ME! NUFF SAID!

Mari

btw: I have some great photos of Tony Iommi!

How about Robert Jonson? If you asked Jimi, Clapton, Muddy, Howlin, SRV, and the rest I;m sure his name would pop up somewhere. And for the most part Hendrix did influence alot of players, but honeslty, Iommi does not play like hendrix at all. he's more jazz than anything. Yes, I;m sure he would of continued on playing those riffs even without the influence of hendrix. A lot of people may of been influenced by hendrix, but it doesn't mean that he's there biggest influence. BTW look at what Tony did with just 2 fingers. BTW he usually always sites Django Reinhardt as a source.
