Hi Joe, my name is Rick and I am a big fan of yours. I just wanted to let you know that I am attending your guitar clinic on May 13th. I can't wait to be learning from the master. This will be my first guitar clinic. Should I bring one of my guitars and a small amp, or just one of my guitars? I can't wait to meet you. See you there.

Trutina, from the guitar I go straight into a Line 6 Flextone plus (100 watts with satellite cab for stereo effects) and use the footboard for more available patches, as well as wah and volume pedals) This is my set up at my home, I often use headphones to practice and make myself sick (stereo effects rotary speaker LOL). In my appartment I have no amp, just plug into a Digitech RP-300 and patch in music to jam along with or sometimes just use the on board rhythm tracks.
I have a vintage '70ies MXR Distortion Plus that I never use anymore but am hanging on to in case I ever go back to a Fender Bassman. Blew up the last one I had!!! Got a friend who calls me monthly to pry that MXR out of my feeble grip but he ain't suceeded yet.
Someone mentioned Petrucci, how bout this setup Luke
Did you get a chance to peruse the Vai interview??
Hope you are feeling better these days!!!

Trutina: I'm using a Keeley SEM DS-1 into the clean channel of a modified Fender Deluxe. If I'm getting crazier though, the setup is Morley Bad Horsie into the Keeley, then into the Whammy pedal, then into a Boss DD6 delay then into a Morley Little Aligator (volume pedal). Usually it's just guitar DS1 and amp though. I went through the rack thing, and now I'm much happier with a few pedals. To me it feels better to produce a natural tone instead of it being all processed. My advice would be to save the rack effects for your studio when you record album material, and keep it simple live. So, how's your health? Everything okay?
Sammy Andrews: When you see any numbers greater than 7 in chord notations (usually in jazz) it's telling you to play the note in the next octave up. Just subtract 7 from the number to find out which major scale step it is...for ex: 11.....11-7=4, so an 11 is the same as the 4th step in a scale, only in the next octave up. An example of this scenario in a chord is a chord like a Cmin7add b14 in this chord, you have a 1,b3,5,b7,and another b7...but it's not the same exact pitch as the b7, it's in the next octave, so notating it as b14 tells the musician exactly what is going on. Hope that helps

sammy andrews the 11th is an extension of the scale that allows more complex voicing with more dissonance without making the chords awkward (hard to finger on guitar, crappy sounding on piano with all those seconds). take the A major scale 1 = A, 2 = B, 3 = C#, 4 = D, 5 = E, 6 = F#, 7 = G#, 8 = A, 9 = B, 10 = C#, 11 = D, 12 = E, 13 = F#, 14 = G#, 15 = A
all of those can be used for intervals, but the only ones used as scale extensions are those that get stacked in thirds. that is, with a triad, you have 1 3 5, with a seventh chord, you have 1 3 5 7 (still all thirds), with a ninth chord: 1 3 5 7 9, eleventh: 1 3 5 7 9 11, thirteenth: 1 3 5 7 9 11 13. the general rule of extension use depends on whether the seventh is used.
if you have E G# B C#, you'd call it an E6 (or Eadd6) before calling it an E13. if that note set were E G# D C#, you would most likely call it an E13, possibly noting that the 11th and 13th are omitted (the fifth also in this case, as is common with upper extension chords, for ease of playing and voicing). another condition for extensions versus using add2/add4/add6 is alterations. generally, if it's an altered second or fourth (2 is flat or sharp, 4 is generally only sharp), it will be an extension. F7(#9) = F A C Eb B(natural). Dmaj9(#11) = D A E G#
if the sixth is altered (almost always minor vs. major sixth, as opposed to an augmented sixth), it can go either way. min13 chords happen, as do min6 chords, or min(b6), etc.

opticalstudio i am doing great... how are u ? any new music?
suppaa dave eric johnson uses 500 k pots on all his fiddles...
mick87 cool... its starting to warm up... not in any danger of flooding now either..
trutina i am a little of all those groups...at home plug in and play on a clean channel..recording is either an amp or an fx box.. depending on a gig it changes....usually its
jem->digitech xsw->gcb95->ts9->phase90->whammy pedal->into soldano or marshall..then fx loop has a lexicon pcm70 for delays/reverb and a boss rc20 loop station ... then a 1960a marshall 4x12 cab..it works for me.

Trutina: To build a ground up Rack system, It would be best to check Your budget, And how much You want to invest, There are a lot of great setups, And the one right for You is personal! We all know for studio recording, Joe and Vai use many Boss-Roland rack-gear, from dual effects loops, and various delay gates, also an array of stomp boxes, Also wich are of Boss name, And another is the choice of amp, and cab stack that will fit your need, Daisy chain them through a few wah, and Harmonizer(pitch shifter) pedals and You have a pretty decent and reliable studio and or road gear! Sammy to get to the 11th note you go back to the first note of the scale and continue going up again so eg. A B C# D E F# G# A B C D = D is the 11th
^* i jus realised Stu C gave a fuller explination, But yea same thing...

hey everyone. what do you think of the Boss BD-2 Blues Driver and the SD-1 Super Overdrive? I have a Ds-1 and I like the sound of it except for the crackleing with my straight state amp whenever I turn the distortion up. the BD-2 and SD-1 say that they simulate and give off the sound of a tube amp, is this true? do they sound good with a straight amp even when you actually turn the distortion all the way up? if so, which is better and which do you recomend? actually I was wondering what the difference is between overdrive and distortion. if it turns out that these go well with striaght state amps then I am probalby gonna get one. thanks.

Mari, TM still sucks! lol! Speaking of Kodak, I have to try to get a picture or two of my sister this weekend. She's in a bodybuilding competition in Philly on Saturday. I'm not going to this show, but I want to get a pic of her while she's in this shape. Her next show is in June, and hopefully I'll make it to that one. My husband and I saw Jeff Beck with Santana a few years ago. Great show!
Matt, have you heard Bob's boy Ziggy? Check out his cd "Free Like We Want 2 Be". Good stuff!
Austin, "Maybe when those bugs make it to PA, they turn into Super-Duper Human-Eating Bugs. ;-) " That's not funny.
lol!
Delfino, I can only imagine Joe's face as some kid walks up to him and asks him "Hey Joe, we hashed it about on T2J, and we've come to the conclusion that you should sign my ass." lmao!!! That said, with an English accent, would have Joe doubled up with laughter.

My sis had a tarantula (sp?) errr, some sort of big black hairy spider in a cage. I wasn't scared of it, but then again, I don't think I ever seen it move either. lol!
962, noooo, I don't have to check that spider out! lol! Nope, nah-uh, no way.
Tastey, I'll guess Evanesense, but I haven't a clue. lol!
Cyber Alien, Holy crap! I can't believe you just got the ITLIS cd after ALLLL this time! That's crazy!! Man, that's some bad bidness there doing at Sony.com! Glad you like the cd. I knew you would :)
Mick, you ARE one nice dude! lmao! Tanks brudda! LMAO on not sitting in the E-vil numbered post.

April 13th, 2004... by far one of the most monumental dates in what will be known as he SATCHOLOGY a decade from now. April 13th, 2004 with out question marks the arrival of what has to be without a doubt the BEST RELEASE TO DATE Joe has put out - PERIOD
It's just amazing and even more so when listened through a 5.1 system. I thought it was slamm'n just through my headphones, but DAMN!
And if that wasn't enough... add in the new G3 LIVE DVD and you mightpossibly end up in a blissfull music COMA of
sorts.

Nobody guessed my tune? C'mon people, I'll even add a line and give you a hint...
Why don't you listen to me when I try to talk to you
Stop thinking of yourself, for just a second fool
Shut up, shut up, I don't wanna hear your mouth
Your mother made a monster, now get the hell out of my house
Can't stand it for another day
I ain't gonna live my life this way
Cold sweat, my fists are clenching
Stomp, stomp, stomp the idiot convention
Which one of these words don't you understand
(skipped line with title in it)
Talking to you is like clapping with one hand.
*hint* ~ Charlie Benante

Cyber Alien - Sony sucks.
Now that you've heard the album, it'd be cool if you could read through my review and share any thoughts / comments... Click here...
trutina - What was for dinner?
This doesn't really help you (because I play bass), but I guess I fit into category 2. I have a Korg PX3B that I use the most. I use that with headphones here at school so I don't drive people crazy if I feel like playing bass at midnight.
I'm slowly starting to work my way into category 3, though. I just need money first! ;-) I have a Boss chorus pedal...I'm going to buy a bass wah (most likely a Cry Baby) and a few other things this summer.
Pitch no 8 - That was a cool song...thanks for the link. Hehehe...nice lyrics, too.
JS JS - Do you have the option of rewriting your paper? If so, you should... You'll find that for just taking the time to rewrite your paper, you'll get a better grade even if you just change a few minor errors. It's really worth the effort.
Sammy Andrews - Keep counting into a second octave.
michelle - I guessed! Was Joe's I Believe wrong? ;-)

SAMMY ANDREWS If you're trying to play 'If I could fly' opening chords it is Gmaj7 and F#min7add11 but not the same voicing...Gmaj7 is 3,2,0,0,0,2..that ont was right as you mentionned earlier but the F#min7add11 is not 2,4,2,4,5,2...its 2,4,4,2,0,0...and the second time he'll add that Badd4 7,9,9,8,0,0

mischievous, glad to know you didn't get hurt on that car crash (glad to know you weren't driving either)... Only 42 km of seaside? Heh, how about 7,850 km? :-D Hope you can come check it out some day. Have fun in London!
I've been thinking of asking about these Variax guitars for some time, and now people have started mentioning them... Do they suck? I've read they are cheap instruments, but the electronics are cool and can be "transplanted" to a better-quality (and better-looking) guitar. Anyone's had any experience with them?
