Jblaze1: In due time brother, in due time....Keep pushing on the guitar bodyguard thing, I'm sure JOE is reading your post's even though he is not answering :-)....

I will ask this again.... Was also wondering JOE if you will ever play "Bells of Lal II" live on tour?? That would be a great way to close a show.... You know, encore....leave everyone psyched as they leave the venue....I know you have many stories behind your songs, and I was wondering if "BOL II" was just a Showcase Improv. to display your dexterity on the fretboard?? If so, you get 10's in all categories!!!! Play it bro'!!!!

Peace all, /\/\ike

Nick Lee - What were you asking?

Nonsmoker - I'm still wondering about fretlaser myself.

Michelle - You're in for the show of a lifetime. I think this even beats the show Joe did in 1990 at Massey Hall. The Flying in a Blue Dream tour. The clips I gave Joe were from that show.

If I could say one thing to get you ready, when Crushing Day starts, brace yourself.

NonSmoker: happy 100th! I think you're right though, it is a bit suspicious...however who's to judge? It's not their fault if anyone's.

Yup, we held "The Underground" again last night. It was fantastic. Volume levels were much better than last time, and all the bands played well. Unfortunately most people turned up after the first band "EGM" had played. We had a new band "Capacitor" whose guitarists have played acoustic a number of times before. "Grrr" (what's left of them) played acoustic guitar versions of their songs because they still can't get a new bass player. Finally "HALF CUSHION" blew us all away (again) and played a flawless set. The drummer broke his own sticks this time, and reimbursed me for last week. The sound was spot on from the word go. I've never worked so hard at a gig.

BEN (of the tired variety)

MrSamickMan: HiGain found a SBM CD in Victoria, (not sure where) and I bought one in Launceston (Tas) at an independent store, after looking everywhere for 2 months. If you look in all the stores in your area that sell imported CDs, it might take a while, but keep going back once a week or so, there's bound to be one show up somewhere eventually. Warning, it'll probably cost over $30. Good luck, I hope you find it!

Favourite songs off the new album are:
Mountain Song
What Breaks A Heart
The Traveller

JS1, Rich....Did JOE give you any tips/advice while you were chatting?? I would have given him my home phone # and address and....Man, I'll bet you could have a million things to say, and forget about every one of them when you meet him face to face!! lol.... /\/\ike

BTW, This month's "Young Guitar" has got JOE showing examples of techniques to study (along with Yngwie, Lynch, and others).... JOE is first in the mag (I didn't get a chance to pick it up yet)!! It shows a pic of him with Rainforest and long hair and shades, aka "Extremest" day's, and right out of Satch Tapes!! JOE: I like what your doing now, but do you ever think about growing your hair back?? How bout short?? You must get asked this a million times!!

Peace all, /\/\ike

Ovation1 - We talked with Joe for so long. We got in a few interesting questions though. One I keep remembernig was when I jokingly asked, "So what happens at Christmas time? Evening dinner at the Vai's?" Joe said he actually has a house somewhere and so does Steve so they get together around there. The little Vai's and ZZ play together too. How cool is that? "Yeah my dad's a guitar God and so is yours, let's go build a fort."

I'm still trying to cool down from after that show. Best night of my life.

CRUSHING DAY. Oh man!!!!!

That is too kuul dude!!......That's great to hear that he get's together with VAI and the kids...lol....I can imagine how they must run around and the wives telling JOE and STEVE to settle those kids down! :-)......I wonder if ZZ plays?? That must sound like a stupid question!! I'm sure Julian, Angel (is that the name??) and Fire also play instruments in some way.. What lucky kids, lol!!

Over and out dude, thanks for the inside story :-)

Anyone have any suggestions for how to lower the acidity level from my hands, so that my skin doesn't kill a new set of strings within a couple of days? I have tried Elixir strings and they do help. But are there any better ideas out there? Please?? I can't stand this anymore! Thanks for any suggestions! Wes.

Wes7777.....I have a similar problem. try not to use hand lotion, and don't use elixer strings......I have a hard time with phospher bronze strings, they turn every thing black! And it stains my clothes! I stick with D'Addario's, but that is just me. I had tried maxima stings and found them to be predead. My sweat killed them putting them on. I even tried elixer strings and cut the wrapping off of them in a heartbeat!!! My pick attack was to radical for them. Alot of acoustic players use them successfuly and they seem to come on Taylor guitars. There is not much you can do about the acidity of your hands, except get used to changing strings alot. My student/friend trashes strings just with his radical trem style! He hammers on the D, and G strings until they are flat near the 7th and 8th order harmonics. I don't mind....he pays me to change them. Glad to hear some fans getting to talk directly with Joe! Musta been great fro every one, including Joe! Joe: ever have a trem shift off it's mounts while playing?..........KTF

Nonsmoker and JS Clone1- www.fretlord.com www.fretlord.com for the FRETLASER, kinda neat I think. I'd use it more for aesthetic value. Could add some kewl effects to it.
Man, I'm listening to Belly Dancer, Mind Storm, The Traveler, Love Thing(finally on my way to being able to play it well), man, I love the way Joe uses the Wahwah pedal. His own little timings and techniques really make the songs unique and puzzling in an enjoyable way to listen to. The Traveler at 5:11 to the end just catches my ears every time and the beginning of Belly Dancer is just unreal. And Joe playing the song Time.........its not safe for me to drive if I am listening to that song, my eyes just shut off. Also the tapping part in Belly Dancer is so emotional. I could go on for pages about every single song but I think everyone probably feels the same way.

Being a bassist myself, my high-acidity skin can be especially exasperating...
I've actually stuck with my GHS nickels, I love the sound, but here's the weird thing... Okay, I can kill them, in like, less than half an hour if the conditions are right, but if I'm really in to a song, and I'm all warmed up, something about my body heat/sweat warms up the strings and makes 'em sound really nice,,,
After that, of course, they're dead until the next/sweating/boiling/changing...
I would suggest occaissonal boiling... doing it with vinegar helps too...
Also, don't underestimate the value of cleaning your frets and board, those can help to gunk up the strings.
Don't even think "nah, my hands are more acidic than this guy's, he can't help me," I'm mr. bad-fingers, I've worn off the plating on my SILVER PLATED TRUMPET!!!

jblaze1: I know Joe reads our post at one time or another. I sometimes read a response to one of my post and never comment back on it, not because I don't care, sometimes I just check out feed back and don't feel the need to reply.

I believe Joe is aware of us at some level, just not at the level me hope it could be for all of us.

I know that this website is very imorptant to him, not because of the great job the webmaster does, but because of us, all of us together make this website what it is.

As a musician I would think it would be a good idea not to get too close to the fans, but just close enough to let them know they are appreciated and I think he does that with this website. I've been coming to this website for close to five years now and Joe has never responded to one of my post and even if he never does I still feel in some way, how ever small, that I'm connected to Joe through this website and thats good enough for me.

jblaze1 I know your not saying joe is a big headed snob. I would just like to add, without sounding too presumptuous, that Joe seems to be a down to earth kind of person, not the big headed "I'm a Rock God" type of person at all, in fact I'm willing to bet that Joe doesn't like it at all when people call him a god. Calling him a god is almost like a discredit to all the years of hard work he has spent becoming the player he is today and implys that he is not like the rest of us. I'm sure Joe thinks of himself as a regular guy who is blessed to do something that he loves and works hard at it.

death...Joe was really cool and kind. My mom, JS Clone's 1 & 2 and I grouped up at a table waiting for Joe (we were the last to be met) and got about 30-45 minutes of his time...We got some pretty goofy pics that we should have up on Tuesday.

The Clones basically brought there Satch-Mantra's to be autographed and gave Joe a CD of charms in a home-made jewel case, LOL.

Oh yeah...the other piece of advice Joe gave is that you have to be careful what you wear when you shave your head..."because if you start wearing close that doesn't match your bald head, people will start saying 'FASCIST!' " hahaha
