mr nick -- Berklee is expensive if you don't get some sort of scholarship...but it's really easy to pick up something from them. The reason I really don't like berklee is because they are totally buisness -- they have their favorites and push those...but they could care less for the other ppl who put more work into things, instead -- they care more about the ppl who will keep feeding them a cash flow! I know it's life, but it's not somethign I am ok with...

Joe, you are the best out there and it's great to see that you're coming to Vegas in December, but the problem is that the concert is for +21 people. I'm 19- turning 20 in Feb. So I didn't luck out this time. Hopefully you can come here again and perform at a place that isn't +21 only. I can't wait for 2 more years! Well, great talkin to you!

Evening Satch kids, we've just come back from our hols in the North of Wales, I've never seen so many sheep, everywhere you look, white fluffy things. No computer though so no T2J but lots of chilling out and pink rock.

Anything exciting happened whilst we've been away?

Local Person - didn't think much of the new League Series, think they've gone a bit too far this time, Pauline and Mickey together, yak. Looking forward to the next Lord of The Rings Film. This new guitar teacher of Andy's (Mr Kool) has certainly improved his co-ordination over the last few weeks, he can actually put a bit of a tune together, whatever next.

JSClone1 can't remember if it was you who answered me re the tone deaf stuff but my tone deaf bloke is doing OK.

The leaves are starting to fall and winter's on it's way, have fun everybody, that's all I've got to say.

LOL Sharon

Welcome back Sharon!! Y'know, the first time I read that about Andy's guitar teacher I thought you were dissing the teacher rofl!!!!!

Hey everyone I could do with a little help! Has anyone got Joe's Guitar Secrets book? I've lost mine and I could really do with the notes for the Dimished Chord Relay exercise. Please, could someone just type it out quickly and email it? Something easy like E3 G3 D2 A4 would be fine (ie string & fret). Thanks guys!

Dave (email)

Mobil: check out the discography link at the top of your page. You know it makes sense ;-)

seleccao: I guess if there's nothing new on the vai website (I never go there myself), there's nothing to report. Maybe one of the mailing lists would keep you updated? Guys? Any ideas? News? Gossip? HTH

Mobil: I never really saw guitar playing as the kind of thing that anyone could be "better than" anyone else at. A couple of the guys on here have heard my CD - shout for Naty and r6rocker - they'll give you a more honest opinion (I hope!!!!)

My main guitars are things I've made myself - I'm left handed, and I dislike the weight of a left handed guitar, so I tend to cut up right handers till they fit my body LOL!!!

What about you? What do you play? How long you been playing?

edit If you're into theory and are having trouble, you came to the right place!!! Clarky is doing a session on scales, harmonisation, modes, etc, and it seems to be going down a treat! Enjoy!
Cheers, Dave

I TRY to play (stress, try!) to play my Fender Squier Strat (2x single coil, 1 humbucker) on my little Squier SP-10 10w amp.

Its classic black with white scratchplate.

I don't know how to read music, and i think tabs are somewhat confusing (for me at the moment, anyway- its been ages since i've read any!), so i play by ear. Most of the time i'm pretty accurate- the only difference is usually strings + fret etc. compared with the actual music. As long as it sounds right, i sort of don't care.

I can (sort of) play WAR (rhythm) etc.. and a few others, like crystal planet, love thing, train of angels etc.. but not very well.

chocoholic - interesting. i mean, yeah i agree that all the pauline / mickey / ross love triangle thing was a bit ... sick but i wouldn't say any more so than some of the stuff from the first series. I just loved the doctor guy and grandmother's footsteps, as well as the 6th sense reference (the guy in the coffin at church)

clarky- i'm not sure of who the "big 5 russians" are... I like Stravinsky, a lot, as well as Prokovieff, Rimsky Korsakoff, Rachmaninoff, I like most big Russian music. Tchaikovsky. I like Smetana too. Bear in mind that I am relatively new to this kind of music, and have heard little of it all so far.

Bearing this in mind what you said about first half of 20th century music is probably quite similar to how I think- I just haven't got bored by lots of it yet. I know I really like Stravinsky, cause I keep going back to it. But Schoenberg and Webern seems all too..... odd. It's something like people winning the turner prize for creating a room with a lightswitch going on and off.

I shall try and listen to more instrumental Bach. That's REALLY ENOUGH BABBLING ON PAUL.. (that's me I'm talking about not paul clarky)

Tapper5 - Thanks. Hopefully 2 - 4 weeks will be enough until I start practicing. No one touches the hand!

Hi everyone... The baseball playoffs are here...let's go, Yankees!

chocoholic - Welcome back! There's not really anything new here...more US tour dates were announced, but that's all.

seleccao - I don't think Steve's on tour now. I'm pretty sure he's taking a break and will start working on his next album soon.
Mobil - It's great that you can play by ear. I'm not as good as that as I would like to be. You should seriously get back into reading music though...it makes things a lot easier sometimes.

...Austin...
