FOR ADUN - Grammatically speaking 'I not know' - lol

I do believe that Eb minor is the saddest of all keys, but that's not for the 'lazy' guitarist mentality ;-) I think that CLARKY should have the answer to this as it's going to be classically based

Hi joe. Just wanted to say i'm a huge fan of yours. You rock! Love your DVD! The most awesome DVD i own. I recently got your new album "Strange beautiful music." Its really really amazing! Awesome stuff!!! It's extremely creative and fresh! I love it. It really takes your musical writting to another level. Very well balanced as well. I love the breaks in the songs and the change in tunes. What I love about the song "Starry Night," is that you never like repeat a verse. It like flows into different tunes and ends of. Really Really beautiful! And the last song "You saved my life," it sounds as if the guitar is singing the words "You saved my life." Was that your intention. Were you inspired by All around the watch tower (jimmy hendrix's version) for any of the songs? Anyway, thanks for the great music. Ever think of performing in South Africa? I would love to see you here, but not sure whether you'll get a huge crowd. Thanks again!

Oh my, oh my oh my, oh my............ ;-)
I received my two new JS-albums in the mail today (Crystal Planet and Flying in A Blue Dream) and I just can't wait to hear them!!!!!!!!! I'll be back with reviews as soon as possible... What is your favorite tune from CP and FIABD???

Man, I'm getting really jealous I'm not a guitar player when I see all the fun you have here, with Clarky giving out lessons and all.... :) Never to late to learn, I guess, but I'm just too lazy. I think I'll stick to my pool cue and just be satisfied with knowing I can play that baby pretty well. LOL And I'll never ever stop listening Joe and his likes, of course! HEY JOE, how about a Scandinavian tour soon, eh?!?! It's about time! ;)

akreepish - lol... it's a joke... a line from the movie Spinal Tap..... when Nigel Tufnel is sitting at the piano playing a pretty little piece "in Dm, the saddest of all keys"... and the song is called 'Lick My Love Pump'..... lol classic stuff... lol

For Adun - the difference is in two parts....

1st: the tonic of each key os different [one is G and the other is E]

2nd: the template of intervals is not the same... this is the relationship between all of the notes in the scale and the tonic...

the problem here is that when you play these two scales next to each other they sound very similar... this is because they share the same notes.... but when you play them in context all becomes clear..... consider the following chord progression: ¦ I ' ' ' ¦ IV ' ' ' ¦ I ' ' ' ¦ IV ' V ' ¦

In the key of G this becomes: ¦ G ' ' ' ¦ C ' ' ' ¦ G ' ' ' ¦ C ' D ' ¦
In the key of Em this becomes: ¦ Em ' ' ' ¦ Am ' ' ' ¦ Em' ' ' ¦ Am ' Bm ' ¦

play these progressions and record them [or sequence them for the computer guys]... play them back one at a time and improvise over it using the notes and fingerings that you've learned so far from the G-everywhere thing.... don't worry about being fast and clever.... try to listen to how the 'tonality' changes between the two different progressions... if you can, try to avoid playing G-everywhere like an exercise over the progression. Play a note... hold it, move to another note but it dont have to be the next one up or down in the scale [so you can leap to other notes... as you're noodling, see if any little tunes [phrases] begin to emerge... have fun with them.... the main thing to note here is how very different they sound.... dispite sharing the same notes...

Ovation - the new tnues are for the album only... if I stick them up on IUMA then I'd never recoup my recording costs..... I've figured that I'll need to shift around 800 to 1000 CD's at something like £10 [I think that's around $15] to break even... me and Ricky hit it off right away.... within 10 minutes he became a bud for life... funny how some folks can just jell like that..

P.S. Joe, pleeeeaaaase do a show in Sheffield sometime! How about doing it with G3?

hey guys,

clarky : i've heard of radio gladsaxe, but never actually listened to it... at least i don't think i've listened to it... i may have heard it when i was crap at understanding danish!!..lol... but i don't get to the copenhagen area that often... why the interest? got a gig or something?...

ovation : i've trained in seminars several times with an english Goju Ryu master called Jon Alexander (i'm ashamed to say that i can't remember his title in japanese)... he taught myself and some other blackbelts how to handle a katana correctly... he even let me borrow his own for s short time...(which is a HUGE honour!!)... i was terrified i might drop it!!... one of the nicest guys i've ever met in the martial arts circles...

left handed debate : i've heard that lefties like mark knopfler and gary moore just picked up right handed guitars and started playing... they have both said that it works better for them because the stronger hand is doing all the work...

cheers...

P.S. i have copied all of clarky's theory posts if anyones interested...

Hey Joe! My name is Antonio and I´m from Spain. I´m sorry but my english is not very good. Anyway... Here in Spain you have thousands of fans that NEED to see you in a live concert. I have the G-3 video with Vai & Johnson, maybe I´ve seen it over 100 times (sure!), and I don´t know how many times i have listened all your discography. C´mon Joe, come here and make us dream.

Is it just me or does anyone else using GHS Fastfret think that the quality has gone right down hill, they seem to dry out a lot quicker these days.

CLARKY - Dammit, i missed the Spinal Tap reference totally, do remember Vim Fuego from Bad News?classic ..................... 'i'm not getting back in the van until you say we're a heavy metal band !'

UK T2Jers - I'm pretty sure that there is a guitarist tour de force (of the old school) on tour in November, I booked tickets for 'Legends of Rock' a tribute to Cream on the basis that Uli Jon Roth, Micheal Schenker and Jack Bruce were playing - i'm now pretty sure that Al Di Meola and (dare i say it on here?) Yngwie Malmsteen are on the bill as well.......... well as an oldie (it's over 15 years since i've seen Schenker, Malmsteen and Roth!) it does it for me............. I think i saw the tour dates in this months Guitarist........

I've had a pack / stick / tube (!!!) of FastFret for about 350 years sitting on the shelf. I think I used it a couple of times... seemed perfectly damp to me ROFL. Maybe I'll check if it's disintegrated or not. Mr Sheene always seemed to be better (before I put the strings back on of course) :-/

/\/\ike: I'd really apperciate that ;-)

Cack Handed Thing: I heard that too - your dominant hand does the neck stuff. Makes perfect sense to me, but stupidly I didn't try it that way back when I was, ahem, younger, so I've been playing things upside down ever since LOL.

JBlaze, ah you are a bloke then, couldn't have read your mail properly, headache was threatening to explode so concentration a bit off.

Linda - Wow you must be so proud, keep plugging away there and keep us all posted. someone has already said e mail Webmaster, might be worth a shot.

Local Person - I can juggle, are you better?

DaveMc - I know it might be frustrating to realise there are loads who don't know Joe but on the upside when he tours, we can get tickets and get closer to the Maestro. If Joe was as well known as say Bruce Springsteen, we wouldn't get a look in and his tickets would cost a fortune.

Just had G3 on DVD, great show Joe, liked Eric's stuff and Mr Vai, he does seem a bit on the flash side. Hasn't Stu got chunky legs.

LoL Sharon

Sharon: Good point. I didn't go, but I had a ticket for Prince at Manchester last night. Prices started at £50! And I bet you wouldn't be able to take your high heels to the stage door and get em signed afterwards ;-)

Webmastah... would it be possible to put a "webmaster's messages" link at the top, beside Joe's? A lot of times when I show up here after a few days away there are 15-20 new pages to view. Don't get me wrong, I love you all :O) but sometimes you just want to cut to the chase, this would be a great addition, imho. Also, is there an FAQ about formatting on this board? IE: for links & bold text etc, what is the tag structure up in here? Thanks.

PLUM LOCO - Rik is THE MAN, eh? Technically he is one of the best. Back "in the day" we all wanted to be as technically proficient as Rik, we all scrambled to learn Midsummer's Daydream. Thunder Seven is still a very solid album, even to this day. (IF you can take the high vocals, which I can). A professional guitar player friend of mine (who will be playing my Wedding) was over last week for dinner, I'm always trying to suggest stuff to him that's a little challenging, when I mentioned M's D he said "well, I don't really remember it that well.." & then proceeded to play it nearly flawlessly, he did the same (after a quick retuning) with Bron-Yr-Aur (one of my all-time favorite Led Zep instrumentals) dude is just amazing. If anyone is interested in some local (well it is to me anyway) classical guitar tunes, check out my bud's band, the CGQ (Canadian Guitar Quartet) at their site: http://www.cgq.on.ca/

I think I'll go & crack out Thunder Seven now, just for old time's sake, Little Boy Blues here I come.

smooches,

chocoholic- yeah i seem to be better- just came off the penicillin yesterday, doing well. I've been recently teaching my self to juggle with 3 balls- exciting stuff ;)

I'm playing bass guitar in my music teacher's operatic society tonight and every night until saturday (inclusive, with a matinee on saturday). We're doing Fiddler On The Roof. I'm getting paid £150 which I'm quite chuffed about- I know it's not much, if you think that it's £25 a night, but i think it's pretty good. And it's quite fun. But I have to learn some harsh basslines- wish me luck ;)

ovation - top man... that makes 999 to go... lol lol... don't worry bro... I'll be shouting from the roof tops when I'm done.. it's almost been a year in the writting and I'm still not done... admittedly I've had a few very large dissruptions to my schedule - moving house, prepping for a DC tour, prepping for Jemfest UK - which I guess all combined took a good 4 - 5 months of productive writting time out of this year.... still.. I'm back into it now... I guess two songs to go then it will be time to hit the studio....
kinger - Radio Gladsaxe have asked me to send them a CD of my music to broadcast... they want 5 to 7 songs.... I'm thinking of sending them the five 'sketch recordings' of my new album....
r6rocker - lol... if Nigel Tufnel says that Dm is the saddest of all keys, then it must be...lol
death cube - aahh my new 7.... I'm still waiting... they had to rebuild the fingerboard because the guy they sub-contraced the job to goofed it..... last I heard, the body is in Florida and the neck is in Michigan getting the in-lays sorted..... wow.. I bet the strings are really tight...lol..

Sharon, this is sooo funny. When I said Joe was shaking Fruit Loops in his face, I meant a box of breakfast cereal. However, I agree with you, anything Joe wants to shake in my direction would be o.k. too. LOL!!!!!

Ovation1, wish I could play Joe's music at work. That would be sooo cool. Instead we have to listen to whatever stuff is piped in through satellite radio. Some days it's not to bad, but some days I'd rather stick hot nails in my eardrums. Thanks for the suggestions for the show.

r6rocker, I remember those satin suits. LOL! Wonder if JOE ever wore one?

Dave, how bout we just wear our Satch shirts and parade around in out underwear to get ppl's. attention. LOL! I have Satch IN my car, ON my car, IN my house, IN my locker at work, IN my bag I carry at work - hell, I even gave pictures of me & Joe to my family & friends so he can be displayed in their houses too! At this point, I'm almost stalkerish! If you really want to get crazy, go to www.stickerjunkie.com & get some Satch stickers made up and stick them on everything in site! lol! And NO, I haven't done that yet, but it has crossed my mind. lol! It's not only Joe's music that means that much to me, it's Joe as a person. Anyone who's ever met him can testify that he is warm, kind, humble, ect....just a fantastic human being. His music is an extra added bonus :)
