Michelle: Cats have a way of staying with you: Flint, our cat still jumps up on the bed in the morning even though he passed several years ago! Do you watch animal planet? You may find some solice there.......Js1: you'll love the classical stuff if you stay in that classical vien. it will help your reading and your chord recognition. Keep in mind the techniques you use on the electric may annoy the classical player mentality, but don't abandon it. it should serve you well in all. best of luck with that. itook clasical guitar and got a "C" from Richard Flores. A judicious grade concidering I had a hard time reading. +being sick at the end of the semester did not help. Joe, your the best! KTF

Joe, my wife and I went to the show at HOB in Orlando on Aug 23. First time we saw you live...we drove all the way from Miami and back on Saturday (could not make it the day before to Pompano), 500 miles round trip, not to mention that I flew in from Costa Rica (was there on biz) earlier on the same day...it was absolutely worth it...man you kicked some butt! At the end of the show, though, we wanted to say hi but they would not let us...I understand the need for back stage passes and all that, but, although there was not a lot of people (talking less than 10 left...), they would not let us wait but lead us out. I did sign in for the back stage passes but didn't get one. And then there was this attractive brennette that also lacked a pass but was allowed to cut in...never mind. We were very much uplifted after your Master Performance... it would have been nice to say hi...hope we get a second chance. Hope things are going well with the rest of the tour; a good time in Asia in October (1st time there?)...also hope Pearly shows up (damn...that was beyond!)

Joe - Saw the show in Toronto the other night, excellent performance !! watching how fast you move up and down the neck of your guitar is awesome. Just curious, I drove up from Rochester, NY to see your show, KingsX and DT are coming to Rochester on Wednesday, and you're not. Are you mad at us ?

Joe: A story and a question for you :)

First off I am going to give ya the usual fan praise: amazing! I actually discovered you when I read a biography on Metallica, and found that my idol Kirk Hammett had lessons from you. Well now I must say that he doesn't even hold a candle to you (perhaps he would, but he doesn't get a chance to explore as many styles of music that you do, being in a metal band and all - still love ya Hammett ;) )

Ok, now for my story. I live in Buffalo, NY, and lately we don't see many musical successess out of this place, and hardly any decent concerts come around here anymore. It is really a dying city, it is heavy on industry and we are in a commercial and information age. It is really quite depressing, and it's hard for a girl that aspires to be a lead guitarist (a good one, at that) to even get a band (I was actually kicked out of my first band because they did not believe that a girl would be a good image, what a shame).

When I first got my electric in 9th grade, I practiced my ass off and by the time I got pro-lessons (3 months later), my teacher was impressed with what I had learned already. I have a musical talent, and picked up on music theory easily. I also used to play another stringed instrument in school - cello, and currently I like to mess around with my mothers keyboard when I get bored. Music really is my calling.

Ok, so now you've got a girl that has all this talent, but no where to use it. So I lost hope and set my guitar down for almost a year. I am not where I should be at this moment with my guitar. I am still stuck playing the same Metallica solos, and nothing really new. Then I picked up "Flying in a Blue Dream". Inspiration! But where to go with it? Still no where...but here comes the question

Yeah, I'm a chick, I talk a lot :). Anyhow, I recently saw you when I went to The Ex in Toronto with my boyfriend. Again: amazing. But I wanted a backstage pass, or at least a chance to speak with you about some guitar techniques..unfortunately, two different security guards had told me different things. I then talked to another one who said that the only way to get backstage passes is to know someone on production..how do you meet someone in production if you can't get backstage at least once? And unfortunately living where I do, there is not much chance of ever getting into the music business where that would be possible. This industry is all about knowing the right people, right? So my question is, how did you get started? How did you get discovered and have you ever been in my predicament, where you just don't get a chance to be on the inside? The next question would be about getting backstage passes to any of your upcoming shows in the NorthEast of course, hehe! I want to get involved, but I see no way, any advice would be awesome ! :)

That's very sad about your Cat Michelle... I know what you're going through... my Siamese Cat (Babe) of 18 years of my life, born in 1977 and was put to sleep in 1995 was a great part of my childhood and in my early adulthood as well... We've had other cats but she was special to me... It's a special thing that the little creatures in the world have such an impact on people... It's almost as if they are another type of child to us...

Jayjo - Grade 13 high school but that class is for any grade I think. Hey did you end up seeing me at the show cause I guess we never met... yet again.

Iambic - Thanks for that info.

Megaboyd - I'll have to listen to AIAUW again and i'll tell you my fave. A lot of people favour Whispering a Prayer however I do not. There are a lot of other songs on the album that do better for me. Example, Babuska or Iberian Jewel.

Chriscec - Your 7V is your only guitar? Talking from experience, your 7V can't be your only guitar. These type of guitars are not friendly on string life. I would recommend something with a fixed or hardtail bridge. The JS600 and JS700 are possuble choices. The differences between the 2 are, the JS600 has a standard bridge with Joe's Dimarzio pups. The JS700 has a fixed bridge but has P90 single coils. IF you MUST have another Ibanez or Jem, then would strongly recommend getting one with a trem setter or blocking the bridge. Eventually, the floating bridge becomes a hassle and it's not always usable for every style or mood you're in.

There is this absolutely gorgeuous guitars, the PGM10th. My favourite Ibanez axe. A hartail Gilbert model. Gilbert's Tone Zone pickups, and his neck. The PGM necks are so similar to the Jem necks. The ONLY difference between the JEM neck and PGM neck is that the PGM fretboard is 30cm more curved which isn't that much of a difference. Steve likes very flat fretboards. The body is a Mohog/maple cap combo.

check out www.ibanezrules.com He may still have a PGM10th posted even though it's been sold.

Rich,

Yeah I saw you and Eric talking to some girl right after Kings X played. It looked like you were anxious to go see Joe so I didn't bother you. Eric kept fingering that pass of his. I left shortly after DT started. Send me an email if you want to hook up. I work right down town at Ryerson. It'd be fun to jam, but you are much better then me judging from your videos. I don't get to play much anymore. Later, Jay
