Hey Webmaster/Jon/Yamboy/Mr.Luini...

AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

23 weeks now & still no signed CD & tourshirt. :^(

I know this isn't your fault, but can you find out what's up?

If this takes much longer the tourshirt will have to be from the next tour. ;^)

Thanx!

Clarky - Rails nice choice. I have never played rails personally but theoretically, if rail magnet pickups exist, then why would anyone make a guitar with pole magnets??

Haha, talk about swearing.

ollyno1uk Weeeell, you could just try giving your head and stack to me to try out, and take my 30w solid state amp instead!

BTP To say necessary.. I would say 3 songs that cover all or most of satriani's styles.

Satch Boogie - For all out rock and the pitch axis tapping Cool #9 - Feel/bluesyness Crushing Day - Melody, and all out mashing of the tiny strings (meedley meedley mee!!!)

I didnt want to put two songs from the same album.. but you can substitute with devils slide, house full of bullets.

Oh crap, i forgot "just joe songs" there should be a requirement for 3 of those

Baroque, Midnight, and Brother John

well h302 I''ll think about that one but not sure if its gonna solve my problem!!in fact I think at the present moment I had a better sound throught the distortion of my solid state amp than through the ds-1 into the marshall!!

Ill keep your offer in mind (honest!!)

I was wondering....Do any guitar players go through times where they feel like they can't play....or feel like they are not getting better? If so, how do u get out of the "hole"? An answer from Joe would be great but if any one can help it would be apprecated.

ollyno1uk: What other pedals do you have and what order is the chain in? I used to run distortion-octave-wah-chorus-flanger-noise compressor. The order can greatly affect the tone. Also, on a DS-1, Joe's settings were 9-2-5. Hope this helps.

trutina - thanks for answering - I run the Ibanez RG3120 into a cry baby wah into a boss cs-3 (compression/sustainer) into a NS-2 (noise suppressor) with the DS-1 in the loop of the NS-2 then into the amp. in the loop I have boss delay and chorus.

the overdrive on the amp is great but the ds-1 through the clean seems almost useless with very little sustain and no balls?

thanks

sweep pick - I get that all the time. you get stuck in a rut and your world colapses. fear not though i find that learning a new piece of music can help get out of the rut. It takes a couple of dayspractice then after that you start to get inspiration again - hope this helps

cheers crispin - i''ll try that - try ebay for the pedal - having ssaid that i do keep an eye out myself as I want one but they do come and go at good prices! otherwise try www.guitar-mania.com for a rough price - I would personally not go for a signiture model due to the extra money or lesser quality product just for the name thats attatched if you get what i mean

ollyno1uk: First plug your guitar into your compressor for a clean signal throughout the chain. Then distortion because it's better to distort a clean signal than a processed one. When wah, chorus, flange or other coloring effects followed by an eq. The order on the coloring effects matters little. Then you can put in a delay to use the chorus or flange on repeats. Then reverb followed by your noise compressor.

Sweep pick: I go through that more often than not it seems. What I do is just trudge through it. Sometimes I just play everything I know how to play backwards or turn off all the lights and play wherever my fingers want to go. Every once in a while you stumble across something cool. Also, change whatever you've been listening to for a couple days.

- the beginning part of the fast guitar on flying in a blue dream?

- why satch uses his left hand for the wammy on those crazy harmonics?

- how I can get rid of some of the buzz whilst using a power supply for my pedals?

h302-I love KID A,and don't like the Bends and their previous work.I like Amnesiac, but not as much as kid A or OK computer.

:D

sweep-Yeah,I feel that way some times. You need an outside critique of your playing,if you want to know if you are progressing.

I recommend learning some things that are different for you, like some folk or country songs, some Zappa, play only without a pick,or play with the blunt end of the pic(like pat metheny),play left handed, tune the guitar to a random tuning and just play with out figuring out exactly what it is,study harmony and theory a bit.

Unorthodox things like this that are not a part of your routine will help you get out of your rut.

Sometimes I feel like I haven't progressed much since I was 17(6 years ago) but if I think about it,I have learned a lot of new stuff.True,I can't move my fingers any faster now,and I don't sound like a completely different player or anything, but I have diversified a little. My friends and dad are the ones who pointed it out to me,whenever I would whine about my playing status.

ok he uses his left hand because he does a pinch harmonic with his right and if u try to use the same hand to deprees and lift the bar at the same time not only is it very hard it sounds messy! to do a satch screem do a pinch harmonic ona n open string (G OR B WORK BEST) whilst depressing the bar and then raise it up. it tales sum practise but is v cool

the noise. try arranging in a different order. rule of thumb is: guitar-gain effects-pitch effects-echo-then amp.i usualy put the waa and the very begging or end depending on pedals. this isnt always the case but mess around and see
