Damn it, lots of interesting stuff in here and (i) I'm too busy at work to catch up and (ii) It's the weekend so no net access :-/
Right a quick couple from where I skipped through..............
Clarky Funny you should say that about listening to different kinds of music, I was listening to Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No 2 last night..................... didn't work, just made me want to play the piano instead !!!! Seriously though there is something great about listening to music that is made up of lots of 'simple' parts intertwined rather than serious virtuoso playing, kinda makes it more accessible and has a lot greater depth. Favorite 'instrument' at the moment ? Ron Thal's voice, that guy has got more than his fair share of talent, lyrically, compositionally, vocally and technically and he's a bit of a twisted f**k to boot - what a guy.
Dave Wow, and I thought that the post office was broken !
File Sharing Abuse - It's wrong (imho) yeah there are some people making pots of money out of over priced music and merchandise and I always think that file sharing is worse if it effects the independent smaller artist but at the end of the day is it ? Taxes are way too high and you don't see where most of that money goes to but tax evasion isn't carried out on the same scale as file sharing. What's my point ? File sharing isn't killing music but I think that it restricts access to music in the long term, there are some great unsigned acts out there but most of 'us' won't get to hear them, distribution is important, file sharing impacts on the distributors profit, they sign less people because they don't have the money to market and promote them, the people who file share have less to share - who loses out ? Everyone.
T2J CD I agree with Mowlie, when we know for sure that the CD is coming out we need to create the same buzz about it that we had for a start, we just need to make sure that the aren't any more 'false alarms'. I'd hate think od Bil with 970 unsold CDs cluttering up his house lmao ;-)
later guys

...ah here it is.... "New Standard Tuned" guitar, a tuning imagined by Robert Fripp (C-G-D-A-E-G from top to bottom)... I got this from here
Aarren a Roland guitar synth, a Whammy pedal and two DDLs. He first started it (with Brian Eno, I think) by using two Revox reel to reel tape machines, and then progressed to delays... I think he uses two of the apprently amazing TC Electronic 2290s.
EDIT: Paul they're sending current stuff first, and the backlog later. I called the electricity people yesterday and they said people are getting "we're gonna cut you off" letters before they've even received a bill! LMAO.

Isn't the way that frippertronics works that he has what he plays being constantly recorded and then looped back so after a while he's playing over parts he played n seconds ago, 2n seconds ago and 3n seconds ago all at once?

Ethn: It's all good bro'. My comment was really directed towards the critics that felt Yngwie's style "sucked", and was "boring". I think it's fair to say that most concert goers, at this point in time, know what they're are getting into where Mr. Malmsteen is concerned. He does what he does, not much variety to be had, but it's still good. I hadn't even read what you posted. I just think it was unfair to make general points, re: "he sucks", without giving any kind of reason why. I can't say that you are part of that.
I agree with you, if you pay money, you expect to get something in return. I enjoyed the show in Phoenix, but Yngwie was not really a reason for me to go. I wanted to see Joe and Steve. I actually found alot of the antics to be amusing. Yngwie seemed to be smiling/laughing a few times as well. Sorry you had a less than favorable experience. That sucks....
Clarky: that's way cool man..... That's something to be remembered for sure. There are few that can say they played on the same record as Fripp. -Awesome!

Ovation: It depends on the venue. For me, i tried to bring it in and they said i couldn't, but i would be able to run to the car after the show and get it. Everything worked out fine that way, oyu just have to make sure you ask the people THERE first because SOME places don't allow re-entry, and if you leave the actual aftershow, you can't re-ernter it. So you have to get out of there and back in before any of the artists show up for the aftershow. To those going to a show, good luck! Meeting Joe and Steve was a dream come true for me. Thanks again Joe for the tendonitis advice!

Tastey I don't think that judgemental is the right word for people in here. There are a lot of people who have a lot of opinions and things end up being 'debated' - lol. Yeah occassionally people get fired up but it's a free flowing sort of a place, nobody really falls out with each other for long. If you can't express your opinion when your among friends when can you ? Sometimes its real easy to come across the wrong way as well ;-)

r6r - interesting what yo say about 'simple lines' combining to make something bigger... When the London Symphony Orchestra first saw the score to Beethovens 5th the musicians laughed.. "this is kids music"... then they played it... and realised what a special thing it is... apparently it became a favourinte at the proms and was played every year for the next 80 or more years...
try listening to music that does not have a solo insrument... no concerti.. try something symphonic... try some old prog... think form.. think texture.. think vibes...
kell - me and Satch can.... but the similarity ends there... lmao...

Ovation - just spoke to David's bassist today.... it looks as though I have another distraction to my album...
I have to sort out the final version of 21st Century Schizoid Man... and then go to his studio and record it...so there's another month gone...
it'll be fun though...

mikesb - the version that I'm re-arranging for David is largely similar to the original for the riff and verse etc... the solo section in the middle has had a complete overhaul...

Dear Joe Satriani:
I love the way you play your guitar. I am 10 years old and have a guitar that someday I might play as good as you. I am a fan of your's. I saw in concert at Bone Bash.

Tom Sr Right on man ;-) One of the great things about Chet is that he could play some lightening licks when the music called for it but his melody lines were pure, clean and well orchestrated but simple - all about the song, not the guitar. Thinking about it he probably had some influence on me picking up a guitar, my Dad used to listen to his stuff when i was a kid, along with Sabbath and Purple - lol ;-)
Clarky Good advice dude - think vibes !
Have a good weekend all, I'll try and catch up again next week ;-)

Stu and Greg I believe he has his delays set to different times, so the looping isn't predictable. One might be 70 seconds ( :-O! lol) another might be 40 seconds, and another at say 33, etc. It sounds to me that most are on a pretty high feedback level, but he's constantly chuffing about with things too, with realtime foot controllers. All Frippertronics tracks you listen to tend to start gradually because of the time taken for the first repeats to appear. He plays notes, chords, etc, but none of it sounds like a guitar to me - I guess that's the influence of the Whammy & the GR??? guitar synth. The stuff he did on Sleep Walk sounds slightly different - I don't hear that much use of the looping delays, and just more of the "doesn't sound like a guitar" tones. Either way, it's totally unique and sounds amazing!
