js js I am actually for Bush.

gibsonplayeer I clicked on the link on the front of the website, and this is what it said, Answer this poll to automatically be entered in a random drawing (Dec 9) for copies of The Electric Joe Satriani Anthology CD autographed by Joe, so if its a typo, they've corrected it.

top 5 guitarists Hmm, 1) Joe, 2) Steve Vai, 3) Jeff Beck, 4) Robert Fripp, 5) Hmm, maybe Hendrix, or maybe Andres Segovia (although he also has a good clame to #1).

ok..so they say practise what you dont know..but what happens when you dont know what you dont know..so you dont know what to practise..but practising the things you do know makes you better...but if you practise scales..thats fine..makes you better at scale playing..but whatabout technique? how do you practise and become better at that? i become bored when going up and down scales...it increases speed when done to a metronome properly..but that makes you good at doing scales very fast..which is boring...how do you become a better player?? when i'm writing songs..i'm forever changing it..and when it comes to the drums..i dont get past that stage...i keep changing the song structure...and then if i get to that stage,...which i am now with this short demo i've wrote..i end up not recording for a few milion reasons like..wrong souind..cant get the guitar linked up to the computer...i cant have it permantly set up cos the computer is in my brothers room...and i haven't got an 8 track...which is what i want..but then i dont know which one to buy..and i have'nt got enough money for one anyway...

i'm a bit stuck....

michelle - No, no, no. Don't get me wrong - I wasn't saying that Joe is average - we all know that he's one of the greatest alive. But sometimes he just sounds a little bit, er, dull *runs and hides*. SBM was a weak album in my opinion, and I think Joe needs to release another legendary, ground breaking album. The last one of those was The Extremist, as far as I'm concerned. I guess he just doesn't blow me away anymore. Maybe he's gting old.... lol

Nick - So you are aware of what you know, right? Practice evrything else. That's it. You must know your limitations in order to improve. Really analyse your playing - break it down to technique, sound, feel, timing, and articulation. Look at what's good and what isn't. Be brutally honest with yourself. Create one chord backing tracks and improvise over them, exausting all possible options. For example, make a backing track that's ust an Am7 vamp and use all the posible scale and arepggio shapes. I'm not going to tell you what they are, because that's another way to learn - figure things out for yourself. The problem with the ACM Diplomas is that they have a tendency to spoon feed the students. This is very unconcstructiv. Go away and study things. For example, if they say "you can use the Mixolydian mode over any dominant chord", go home and figure out why. And whatelse you can use over the same chord, and why. Knowledge is power.

Neil Morgan, " I think Joe needs to release another legendary, ground breaking album. The last one of those was The Extremist"

So you're saying that Joe hasn't put out anything good since 1992????? C'mon dude, pull yer head out!! I'm not saying you have to love everything he does, but nothing "ground breaking" since The Extremist!?!? I have nothing else to say to you on this subject without flaming you to ashes, so I'll just leave it at that. Have a nice day Mr Morgan.

Tastey - Joe is in my 'top 10' guitar players, for sure. I'm here because I like to think I aveone or two frinds here, it's a great place to learn, and I do actually like Joe Satriani. I just don't hold him in such high regard as some people. Relax...

Neil - though i'm suprised by your opinion, it's thoroughly allowed and anyone who says you shouldn't be here is mistaken...

What do you think of EOC? I'd call it pretty groundbreaking. I know what you mean about the sameyness though... I don't listen to Joe;s stuff much atm but whenever i do, I realise the excellence melodically and sometimes harmonically. Something that I find in very few guiatrist's work- some of Vai but not all...very little of petrucci's etc.

Who here likes Petrucci's soloing on ToT?

I personally don't think it's up to either of the other Rudess albums... what do other people think?

Jelly Man - I like EOC, but only from track four to the end, except 'Attack'. I don't like that one or the first three. And you're right - it is pretty groundbreaking. I forgot about that album. Porbably beause I haven't listened to it in such a long time. Regarding the new DT album, I haven't heard it all yet. I've only heard the radio edit of 'As I Am'. I liked the solo on that. A little different for Petrucci, but I liked it. You'll have to wait until January when I buy the album to find out what I really think. If you care... lol

Do The Stu: lol man, that was funny, hehe, I did'nt realise TASTEY thought I was talking about The Prez (Jason Priestly), haha, thank's for the correction....

Zachary: Thank's for shooting pradips fingers bro, lol, and happy 200!!.... btw, I got your Gilberto pick ready with some Oki souvenier pics to go along with it, and it'll be on the way soon w/ michelle's package.... Man, what a f'd up week!!.... Back and forth from days one day, swings the next!!.... :-0

Mr Nick: Add variety to your practice sessions.... Take your scales and pick em' apart, play them in different sequences, slide up to a note, or slide down to it.... Play parts of a scale and add feel or vibrato to it instead of as an exercise.... Experiment and get your vibrato down.... Most of all, have fun!! :-)

TASTEY: We use " :-) " and such to show that we mean no harm by our post's.... A smile is all it is.... If I was laughing, I would have said "LMAO" (Laugh My Ass Off) :-)

Neil.... I respect your opinion, but do you have CP and EOC?!?!.... I personally like those albums better overall than the Extremist.... The Extremist is over drummy and echo IMHO, I love it, but JOE went above and beyond that with CP and EOC.... SBM is just what it's title say's it is, lol, and I'd also like to see JOE get heavy and no-holds-bar on the next release!!.... btw, I see you told jellyman that you have EOC, lol....

Tastey Hey c'mon ! My post says current Top 5 right ? I don't listen to Joe and Steve all the time but they are two of my all time favourite guitarists for sure and I'll always listen to them as I have done for years. I spend on average a couple of hours a day in the car at work and I don't listen to the radio but mostly to instrumental guitar music, I couldn't listen to Joe all day everyday. I think the other point is that guitarists listen to guitar music differently, for inspiration and techniques as well as just listening. I don't think that Joe would feel dissed just because he didn't make the current list, I'm sure that he feels the same way about the music that he listens to. If you like instrumental guitar music check out some of the guys on the lists here you haven't heard of. I'm pretty sure that you would love Andy Timmons and Dave Martone just blows me away at the moment. Joe is without doubt the godfather of instrumental rock guitar (as we know it today), but people have built on that and been inspired by him and taken the genre in different directions. I'm not listening to a lot of Joe at the moment and I'm not going to fake it just beacuse this is Satriani.com, this is a place for people to be themselves. I think there are two types of people on here Satch fans and Satch fanatics............... I'm a Satch fan, what more can I say ?

Today I went at the music shop and asked for Guitar secrets. As I expected, this book doesn't exist in that city. It would be a surprise if there were any of that kind of books in the whole country! Looks I'll have to buy it on the net.

ovationp - 'Crystal Planet' is precisely the album I'm talking about. It's my favourite Satch album, but I really have to be in the mood for it to listen all the way through. Otherwise it just gets a little monotonous. The thing is, I've been going off instrumental music as a whole recently; I like to hear vocals. The guitar means more to my ears when it just pops up for a solo or something, if you know what I mean. The only instrumental music I really like at the moment is jazz/fusion and Liquid Tension Experiment, because it's not all about the guitar. Personally, I'd love to hear Joe collaborate with a singer for his next album like Steve Vai did with 'Sex & Religion'. That's what I've been waiting for from Joe for the past few years.

I hav'nt posted on this much, I think I will from now on, its got such a friendly atmosphre. I like the way people can constructivly critisise Joe without other fans turning on them and bashing them and their opinion. I see this ALOT on the DT forum so I don't post their even though, their my favourite band. I feel scarred to show my opinions their because im affraid of getting bashed. Isn't that sad.

Master Yoda: I hear ya man, I'll agree, it's hard to go all the way through at some points with CP.... If I havent heard it in a long time I will, but mostly I skip to my faves, lol.... If you want vocal's AND guitar there are none better than Richie Kotzen IMHO!! I know you saw him at a clinic there and I think you would agree, he's got mad skills!!.... He can do it all, and his soulful stuff is what I like best.... If you dont have Vertu', get it.... Powerfully jazzy and explosive by Richie, and the vocal track Vertu' (sung by him) is incredible.... I love to sing it!! One day I will sing that well, lol, I'm almost there, just ask my kid's!! ;-)

guyzif: Welcome bro, we'll take care of ya!! ;-).... Enjoy da house and take your shoes off, kick back, and listen to JOE ;-)

....ZZZZZZZzzzz time for me......
